161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 12, 2013, 05:36:23 PM
Out of curiosity, what is this saying that suggest an attack is going on rather than just people mining? I'm new to cryptocurrencies.
As an attacker you mine on your own chain for a while (without broadcasting it to all the others), then suddenly add your blocks and so overrule the legit chain. All transactions on the legit chain while that period will be reversed so you can buy stuff without actually loosing coins.
Well, this might not have been intentional. Someone could have had a lot of PoS blocks found all at once or some PoS blocks were not broadcast to all nodes (and with PoS having a higher priority than PoW, they easily overtook the chain). Also, this was happening a lot in the early days of YAC (diff = 0 and stuff).
The replacing blocks were AFIK all PoW so this isn't just a minor coincidence. It's either a attacker that wants to harm YAC or a serious bug. None of that should be taken too lightly. We will see.

Can anyone check if there were some reversed transactions?

The vote for the new logo is at:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=288824.0

Actually I thought we had already agreed on Beave162's version, but it seems we're getting a total different one. It looks like most people that voted on the first vote also got to the new thread, but some might not heard about it. Hurry up if you haven't.

Closes on September 12, 2013, 12:22:12 PM.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [VOTE] YACoin Logo: the Final Showdown on: September 10, 2013, 06:30:45 PM
As stated in the title, this is the final vote for the logo in case anyone is wondering.
Why the hell didn't you post this into the dev thread aswell?!

I'm not searching for YAC every time I visit BITCOINtalk. If I hadn't known about the first voting thread there is no way I would have fond this. Search for YAC;YAC logo or someting like that and you wouldn't find this thread!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=206577.msg3080163#msg3080163

And where does it say you made a thread about it? All it said was that you were going to do make one eventually ...
If you want people to vote then post at least a link to the vote. You can't expect people to feel that there might be a vote on something or actively search for it for no reason.

Quote
If no one submit an "upgraded" version of these designs, I intend to make a voting thread on Friday with these logos as they are.

If you want to defer the vote, please post here or PM me before Friday.
and I did (not eventually). With the poll running for 6 days and all the bumping, while I can't make every forum member notice it, enough attention is drawn to it for a pretty good reflection of opinions.
Everyone could vote even if he never heard about YAC befor, but nobody knows about the vote unless he searches for it! That's the most bullshit way to make a vote. You rather try to hide this vote than to get people here. Did you really expect that a bump on the biggest forum of crypto would matter at all?! Hell, you didn't even bother to post the links to the dev thread and on yacointalk. "Pretty good reflection of opinions" is the most stupid thing about a vote I've ever heard. I'm just wondering how often you will start a new voting thread again ...

Usually I'm a patient person, but you fucked up this "vote" in nearly every possible way. Please never handle any other voting threads for YAC ever again.

167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 09, 2013, 02:34:27 PM
"problem" is that even at that price YAC is more profitabile then LTC, so miners just dump it.. this prevents price to really rise like somedays..
Paperprofits on high value with no volume are just illusional. The 100million painting that noone would actually buy isn't really worth much (unless you have a good fire insurance).

I rather have a cheap crypro with lot's of miners/PoS dumping than a high valued one without. It is a very good feature of YAC that it has such a huge supply compared to other cryptos. Unless the marketcap isn't ridiculously small it makes it far more useable as currency than most other cryptos.
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 09, 2013, 01:27:54 PM
WOW 100 percent jump ! go YAC go !! Cheesy

Followed by an istant drop back to original prices ...  Cry

The spread is insane on YAC. After the last time I logged in I bought 10kYAC @ 0.05mBTC and could have sold them at 0.1mBTC even befor logging in again today. It hasn't been decided yet where it wants to go, but if it wants up it will be damm fast. 25kYAC market buy on cryptsy or bter and we'd quadruple for that moment.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [VOTE][YAC] Yacoin Logo Change & Official Name on: September 09, 2013, 01:02:37 PM
I like Beave162's logo. (red, Y&A and hexagonal)

BTW I hope it is clear that we actually voted for the hexagonal design with the Y&A or what have we decided on now? The round ones came after we started to vote so do we vote again on the shape? And where?

Please get the voting options binding the next time so we can finish this damm vote. I don't want to vote again on 3D effect, then size and next about format and compression. Only to trow it all away  and reset when someone wants an octagonal form. Either make it choose between these logos or offer more properties to vote on.
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you withdraw PPC from BTC-e the price will rise on: September 08, 2013, 02:30:03 PM
By the way, Proof-of-Stake is an exchange killer. Withdrawal becomes extremely slow, because Proof-of-Stake generation selects/creates too many inputs. Proof-of-Stake is not free for CPU resources of the exchange, that's why any smart exchange operator usually disables it.
Well nothing is for free, but PoS rewards for coins you don't even own is damm cheap.

There seem to be some people that keep insane amounts on exchanges and I see no reason why an operater shouldn't get PoS for handling funds. I don't know the balances of btc-e, but I assume they would be worth the effort. They might just got supriced by too many withdrawls.

The only way I can explain it as rational behavior is to suggest that it is BTC-e covering their short position.
It's not rational to assume that everyone else is rational aswell...

Why shouldn't they be able to buy at their onw exchange? If btc-e had higher prices than vircurex PPC would flow into btc-e and they would get new funds to pay out withdrawls ... They already have a licence to print money, so I assume they won't risk that for a stupid gamble.

I belive it is far more likely that someone simply doesn't trust btc-e and so he takes his buisiness elsewere.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 08, 2013, 09:08:25 AM
No I don't have it. That is the problem...
Ouch ...

If checkwallet=true then you should be able to dumpprivkeys aswell and import it into another wallet. Use sairons version with coin controll so you don't miss any hidden change adresses.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you withdraw PPC from BTC-e the price will rise on: September 07, 2013, 06:39:07 PM
PoS mining is solo mining so it as unpredictable as PoW solo mining.
It is randomly choosen which adress is used next, but an exchange like btc-e would have a lot of adresses. They would get close to the expected PoS waitingtime. Some of their would always be in PoS. ASIK do they not put it all in one adress and they use deposited adresses to pay out others. If too many too big adresses got stuck in PoS there would be such delays as experienced.

I don't think here is anything to worry about, but it's always a bad idea to trust others with your money if you can avoid it.
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you withdraw PPC from BTC-e the price will rise on: September 07, 2013, 06:01:19 PM
Some weeks ago I bought 20K PPC at BTC-e, I could not withdraw them after the buy, I had to wait for two days until I was able to withdraw them, this doesnt seem right at all!

Well, given that PPC is PoS coin, it is possible that BTC-e is "reserving" those deposited coins which are close to making them PoS
reward. Afterall, it is their addresses on which people deposit coins so they have all it takes to mine PoS blocks themselves. It could
be withdrawals of X coins, where X is more than "reserved" coins, are delayed until PoS blocks are mined but I just don't see it worth
the trouble. Risk losing customers and risk bad propaganda just to earn less than 0.5% off coins that are untouched for over 30 days?

In comparison with the traiding fees this would be a nice addon and why should they trow them away. They might have other tec. problems or just didn't expect so many withdrawls. Them buying on other exchanges is just ridiculous unless the shorted PPC and got caught (unlikely).
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 02, 2013, 05:21:45 PM
I'm getting a bit worried about the startup time of the Yacoin client. Is it a result of blockchain generated at higher N takes more time to verify? The QT client verifies the hashes of the blockchain every time it starts?

Everyday, there should be about 1.4k blocks generated. Normal CPU may soon need around 10 seconds to verify the hashes of 1.4k blocks? A year's blocks may take an hour to verify just counting CPU time. Is the development of a lightweight client quickly becoming a necessity?

Well dependes what you consider lightweight...

Since PoS is a security feature it would be a bad idea to use a lightweight client to PoS, but the current yacoin-qt will always be too slow to compete will light clients. My idea is that we include a liteclient additionally into yacoin-qt and use it when the blockchain isn't ready yet. It doesn't matter that it might take gb of HDD, but waiting a day to send the first txt isn't acceptable.

I'd like yacoin-qt to be the first original client that is actually useable. Even for bitcoin you have to use someting like Armory to use it properly.

Cool, any ideas how we should decide the colours? I belive a lot of people aren't happy with that strange blue ...

I hope everyone here could vote for YAC on this thread aswell:
176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 02, 2013, 03:51:02 PM
We should really move up the PoS minting rate up to 20-45% ...
I'm strongly against making any hardfork-requring changes to the YAC protocol. Just my two YaCents.

I also strongly agree that there should not be any hard forks at this time. Although PoS minting is what has attracted me to YACoins I would not like to see any major changes.

It's not a good time to make any hardforks at the moment.

I think the current PoS reward is in a good order of magnitude and shouldn't be bigger at all. We could rather add an additional reward for longterm holdings and I also have a lot of (good?) ideas to hardfork but it's not the right time to think or discuss such extreme changes now.
177  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Big Brother tracking bitcoin transactions on: September 01, 2013, 10:10:50 AM
A group of (really really) trustworty people handle some funds for all green adresses. If you want to get on the list that is good for 100BTC you have to pay a insurance premium to that group and they would have to pay any double spends. Giving them the 2nd key to your wallet and that premium would be very small.

That would only work for people who have 100 BTC, and that means either big sites or big online wallets or big exchanges. For everyone else, or for those who don't need the speed, stick to waiting for at least 1 confirmation, since that is free. Or use a wallet like inputs.io where transfers are considered instant (and accepted by at least 1 dice site) if you are impatient.

That wouldn't have to be a big fee, so this could be done as adertisment and quality improvement. There are more ways to screw a customer and a insurance gives an improvement for both. With the insurance group holding a 2nd key of that adress or an other form collateral that fee would be in the area of transaction fee.

Back to topic:
The better way would be if those group of trustworthy handle the proposed "green adresses". They have the 2nd key and the right to freze funds when some basic rules are broken. They know the names of the adresses and are willing (or more realistic forced) to cooperate with gov. This makes BTC no different than bank wires and kills the argument about bitcoin tax avasion.

It's an illusion that BTC stays so unregulated for ever.
178  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Big Brother tracking bitcoin transactions on: August 31, 2013, 09:39:12 PM
I don't feel like wasting more of my time on you and alikes. Go ahead, put all your wealth into Bitcoin, I'll be glad to see your kind losing all.

In order for bitcoin to be useable as currency it has to be able to store wealth or nobody would accept them is exchange for something of value. The current market cap is tenfolds to small to handle even all transactions of a bigger town so it's nessasary for some people to put their wealth in it (and some to make some serious money).

You seem to want crypto to get used AND nobody to profit from it that just risked their wealth. One isn't possible without the other.

Just wanted to make sure you've not forgotten. Smiley

Have you found something about the other big bounty on CC4YAC yet? As far as I can recall it was in the sizearea of Beave162s...
180  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Big Brother tracking bitcoin transactions on: August 30, 2013, 03:55:26 PM
I'd like to declare my address as "Green". That's one use for such a database of addresses made public and tied to people. You can be 100% sure that any payment from me to you will not be double-spent; there won't be even an attempt to do so.

However, I still recommend you wait for at least 1 confirmation.

Instead of a yellow pages of bitcoin address, I propose a "green pages". How green an address is is left up to the trust and reputation of the owner of that address.
Fuck reputation, put some cash on the table if this shouldn't end like the "trust-system" here.
