lol @ people letting religion affect them. Religious folk are a dying breed so heres what I say.
I wish it was that easy, but I'm afraid it's not. Religion affects us whether we want it or not (just look at the US presidency). It needs to be actively worked against if the human race is ever going to have any kind of positive future.

Religion affects the presidency because not declaring a faith during an election is political suicide in current american society.
It also makes a candidate lose significant votes from family-centric, conservative and religious communities.

Even if you don't believe in anything, you *have* to declare a faith in the US political system if you want to get elected into any significant office.
There are just about zero self-professed atheists or agnostics in any elected government post for this reason.

The what-coin?
163  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Pussy Traders at TradeHill on: August 20, 2011, 05:27:12 PM
This is why Mt. Gox *is* practically the bitcoin exchange market.

It's the only way to get money in and out in a timely fashion. Other markets are just experiments and curiosities.
The price can change drastically in 30-60 minutes. A trade shouldn't take that long (or even longer)

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar !

All infidels will go to hell

Say you have a hindu and a muslim in the same restaurant.
The hindu is eating roast bacon and the muslim is eating a beef steak.

Who is the most enraged one? Who wins in a fight?
--

Also, say you have two kids in the same kindergarden.
In comes Michael Jackson and and a catholic priest.

Who gets to decide.. Ok let's stop here
165  Other / Off-topic / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto - 1,5 million Bitcoins - We need answers on: August 19, 2011, 01:56:07 PM
If you do create a new fork, why not just make a mechanism which allows for the destruction of coins as well?

Then just mine & destroy the first few million easy coins in a way which can be publically proven & seen to have taken place.

After that, release it to the public.
Or start at a higher difficulty right away.

We’ve seen smartphones adopt all kinds of medical technology, from digital stethoscopes to cancer diagnosis, and I’m hopeful that we’ll see similarly stunning med-tech reach even the remotest areas one day.

I'm calling bullshit on this one...

WTF is an 80 dollar phone?  My phone cost me 0$..BUT you have to sign up for a 3 yr contract where you have to give up your first born to pay for it....and that's in CANADA!

What kind of contract do these unfortunate soles have to subscribe to to get their $80 phone?

This whole article is bullshit without the OP stating the 'total cost of ownership'.

Gawd shit like this makes me so mad....

Kenya is not Canada. Kenya is a poor third world country.

The total cost of ownership is $80 dollars.
You can use a prepaid SIM card, you can use a contract, or just play around with it offline/surf the web by public WLANs, use Skype etc.

Holding down ctrl indefinitely (right after booting up) works on every modern motherboard.

It just isn't very widely documented.

Quote
The prisoner's dilemma is a fundamental problem in game theory that demonstrates why two people might not cooperate even if it is in both their best interests to do so.

Quote from: nelisky
Then along comes joeminer who has bills to pay, and needs cash quick, so a new sell order of $14.99 goes in. But maryspeculator fears that a bank run is imminent so she puts an order of $14.95. Of course there's always johndoe who has grown tired of waiting to get rich quick out of bitcoins and decides to sell all for $14.00 and just invest in hairspray instead...

Nelisky has demonstrated why this will not work.
A maximum payoff scenario will not happen because defection and betrayal pays off the most in the short term (in the mind of the panicker).

They fear the other person will defect & sell low too, which leads both sellers to defect.
Nobody trusts other people enough to keep the sell orders at $15 even if it would be the most profitable option for everyone in the market.

It's ideal, but it will never happen because people are ruled by emotions, the biggest one being fear.
This could work in a market where the only participants are psychopaths, untouched by emotional swings & signals.

171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does a transfer work ? on: August 18, 2011, 10:29:55 PM
Then it transfers them as a whole 25 BTC to an address you specify (owned by a wallet).
Maybe I don't understand what you meant but why talking about one wallet?
The address can be in 100000, 1 or even 0 wallet

Gavin has written a simple explanation.

Quote from: Gavin Andresen
There is no ledger, there are just transactions with inputs and outputs.
Your bitcoin balance is the sum of all the outputs to addresses that you own

A wallet is just a collection of your addresses.
The addresses themself do not 'contain' anything, you only have a balance which is the total of all inputs you have received into addresses you own
(which someone else has output from their balance)
172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does a transfer work ? on: August 18, 2011, 01:37:17 PM
Sending fresh funds worth 25 BTC that you recieved by 50 different 0.5btc transactions will be slower than sending 25 BTC you recieved as a lump sum 30 days ago, unless you use a fee.

Quote
I know that their client will show 25BTC but under the hood how does it work.

The network (i.e. miners) verify you have a right to spend the coins (legitimate sources) & that they have not been spent before.
Then it transfers them as a whole 25 BTC to an address you specify (owned by a wallet).
173  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Sapphire TRIXX Command Line/Automation on: August 18, 2011, 01:29:39 PM
Sapphire doesn't have any CL documentation for Trixx.
The program itself is very GUI-dependent and doesn't even have a config file like Afterburner.

It is however the only program that can control voltages on the newer Sapphire 5830/5850 xtreme cards.
174  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What about a host which doesn't discriminate against people? on: August 18, 2011, 01:26:42 PM
FINE Smiley

You can now download the client directly from the frontpage of https://bitcoin-central.net

Feel free to double check the checksums

That is great news. I assume French authorities do not advocate the virtual blockade of those countries?
175  Bitcoin / Project Development / What about a host which doesn't discriminate against people? on: August 18, 2011, 09:58:11 AM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=37402

People from certain countries can't access bitcoin.org nor download the client
because SourceForge has decided to play U.S. puppet & ban all IP ranges from those countries.

Bitcoin availability shouldn't be bound to a geographical location or limited by the actions of an oppressive regime.
That's like the Tor project voluntarily blocking Chinese IP's because they don't want to get in 'trouble'.
176  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 6BTC with 84$ via paypal on: August 18, 2011, 09:53:15 AM
Hi Everyone,

I was scammed by laydum. He even add the nerve to say he shipped the mtgox usd code via ups . He is an out right scammer and should be baned from the forums.

Please stay away from all his post
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34715.0

It would be great if a moderator can remove or ban this user and delete his posts. Please let me know what information you need provided

I'm not going to try to make the victim feel guilty here, but..

If you read his x360 selling topic, it's *obvious* he is a scammer.
A previous buyer recommended using an escrow, and he stopped all communication & has not posted on the topic since.

Nobody should be sending him anything at that point.. And the buyer's duty is due diligence.
177  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox Euro Withdraw - What happened? on: August 17, 2011, 06:59:32 PM
Maybe a little.
They are running the business just fine but they should be more careful about small details like the ToS.

Also, while their corporate info and physical address in Japan is discoverable, they don't list any of it on the website (except just 'Tibanne Ltd'), not even a phone number.

The minimalistic no-bs approach is great for the customer but I can see why a higher up bank manager would be more than skeptical after a quick glance at the site.
178  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox Euro Withdraw - What happened? on: August 17, 2011, 03:39:25 PM
Their french account Macaraja SAS was disabled due to high volume & refusal of the bank to process bitcoin related transactions.
Absolutely not. It is because they were getting fraudulent wires from people with hijhacked/phished bank accounts.

Yes, I'm aware of fraud issues too.

I was basing it on this message by MagicalTux:

Quote from: Mark Karpéles
We do not lie to our bank, and that's the reason why we have so much trouble getting a new European bank. We have a full presentation (what is bitcoin, etc) and explain to each financial institution what we are dealing with.

Secondary, neither Tradehill nor MtGox is conducting any financial business. We accept deposits from users for the purpose of buying a service, that's a common system known as "prepaid", used by many merchants around the world. You can ask for a refund ("withdraw"), and that's not a problem either.

We are, however, talking with the FSA about Bitcoin and want them to understand and let us know if there is any specific requirement for us.

They are negotiating to get accounts in Switzerland, Hong Kong and France

Their french account Macaraja SAS was disabled due to high volume & refusal of the bank to process bitcoin related transactions.

They are acquiring a new bank account which takes time. Even their new bank refused to open an account,
But since that's illegal (all registered companies in France are entitled to a bank account) they had to get the account opened in front of a judge.

If you email them they can cancel your pending SEPA bank transfer. I did that a while ago.
180  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MT GOX Sepa still not working ? on: August 17, 2011, 01:29:08 PM
Please create an option to cancel pending bank transfers, thanks.
+1
That would be great to have anyway!

If you email Gox they will cancel a SEPA bank transfer. I did that a while ago.
