161  Other / Archival / Re: Mining pools list on: April 05, 2015, 10:29:19 PM

This pool uses clustering from its I7 core to load balance across multiple CPU cores which in turn earn you more bitcoin. Over the short term you will earn 30-40% more bitcoin then other pools.

O_o

how are you magically generating 30% more bitcoins over the short term?

what do you define as short term?

Cyper_BLC, Sorry but this is really hard to explain if you don't know linux, if you want i can make  modifications upon your request. I really don't want to offend you.

Smit, I'm curious, you're really knowledgable with the bitmain products, is there anything to this s4 firmware stuff, or is it just angry people on the internet blowing something out of proportion.

The reason I ask is I have a chance to purchase around 20 S4s from a mining operation that's lost their lease, but if the products are truly bugged and draw more power than is safe for them to be reliable, I'm not sure its worth it even at the low price.
Firmware is really broken, and best way to fix it - complete rework. But voltage can be fixed. I don't even see them(S4), but weak point is psu no doubt. If you can swap them to dps-2000bb this would be a great upgrade. If you plan to underclock them, the original psu is fine, but i'm not sure how reliable it is

I was planning on running two of them per the IBM 2880 server PSU, should work out just fine.  I may slightly underclock during the summer depending on heat in the data center.

I've been mining on this pool for a while now, and while we're riding this block party right now, there will be a crash at some point :p

3% waiting confirmation. But Damn

We just hit Smiley
(awaiting confirm)

This run is crazy.

Will the S4 take 240V in?

Are you guys getting close to announcing your next gen product?

I'd sure like to throw money your way vs spending more with bitmaintech in June

@BitMainWarranty, do you folks plan to offer more of the S5 before June 30th?

One person, today recieve BrandNEW S5 from 5th batch... look (right blade)

Its clearly a different board rev, are you sure that its actually used beyond a burn in period?

I am concerned that bitmain has my coin but havent responded with a confirmation that I paid (even though my payment shows it went in 5 minutes after I ordered it) - does this mean they are going to take my money and not give me the product I ordered?

I have the same problem today, I paid by BTC at around 2:30PM , it is now more than 3 hours later and my order shows up as unpaid and expired. I used my blockchain.info wallet because I think Bitmain also uses Blockchain.info wallets... anyway I emailed them and opened a ticket but have not heard anything back. I do have screenshots of the transaction and of the block explorer showing the exact sum in their payment wallet.

As long as its confirmed on the blockchain, you're fine.  They'll take care of you.

27% block, man I'm glad I rented that 10TH right after we hit that 400% block.

That was good timing!  I'm curious have you already earned your ROI with that rented 10TH?

I'm not as savvy as phillipma is, but yes, I've hit it off the 8 blocks we've gotten since I rented, and because of the way the payouts work it'll take a while to age out.

I didn't really care about making extra BTC on it, I was just mad my new miners got held up in customs :p

I've still got another 3 days on the rental, so anything else we hit at this point is just a bonus.

Shit like this is why I hate April Fool's Day.

Its not funny and the longer the joke holds on, the lamer it gets.

Just a reminder:

http://www.coindesk.com/spondoolies-tech-5-million-series-b/

"Our goal is to get to 0.05 W/GHs, 0.03 $/GHs miners by mid 2015 and power more than 30% of the bitcoin network," Corem explained, adding that he believes these figures will help the company match its rival firms in the US and China.

All of that was predicated on massive availability of the 16 and 14 nm fabs being available in mass amounts by early this year, that's all been pushed back at least 6 months if not more with the fab problems earlier this year.

How many AMP breaker do I need to power 3 S5s running on one pair of outlets? 2 in 1 and 1 in the other. 2 are running on 15 AMP breaker right now but third coming today.

I am running at Freq 400 right now but will be dialing back to default because it is starting to get warmer here.

I have a 3 X 15 AMP breaker powering a baseboard heater in my garage and can bypass that for rigs if need be.

120 Volts here.

I have three on a 20 amps breaker at home.

Good to know. Thanks.

I wouldn't go any higher then three Per 110/120 20 amp i had a friend run two 110/120 20 amps just for mining. right now one has two and the other one has one . and you can Polly push it to 4 but then it might become unsafe .

I just had my electrician here. Damn he was aware of bitcoins and the dude was about 65. He is putting in another 20 AMP circuit in tomorrow so I will be able to have up to 5 and be safe. After that I will move to a small warehouse if I want to keep ramping up. I have nothing else to spend disposable income on so it may as well be rigs! Smiley

If you want to run 5 of them, have him put in a 20amp 240v circuit, most homes have 240v service, its just broken out to 120v because we americans are stupid.

Then buy an IBM 2880W PSU(around 60 bucks used), a j4bberwock breakout board(around 70 bucks) and you can power all 5 of them from that single PSU.  You'll get a lot more efficiency out of your mining farm.

Of the 6 I just ordered one is running noticeably hotter than the rest.  I think I know what I'm doing next weekend.

Temperature difference between the 2 hashing PCB was reported to the engineers and it was reviewed.  So far, it is not the hardware caused issues, but rather where and how the miners are being deployed and managed per the engineers.

The temperature sensors are also rather crude, and on a large scale there will be plenty of 'miscalibrated' ones. I'd be more suspicious of the sensor reading incorrectly than one board running significantly hotter.

It'll be interesting to see what the temps are after I redo the thermal paste this weekend.

All of my miners are in a datacenter with 21c input temps, of the 6 miners all boards are running between 45 - 51 except for the one board that runs 10c hotter than all the others.

I'm going to pull the system apart this weekend and check the thermal compound.

Looks like its working!  Grin

What are the big update ?? My fans seems to run lower. Anything else??

Give me your btc address for tip Wink

After upgrading all the S5's and scoping out the temp charts, I picked a miner with the highest fan speed and temperature and took it offline. (Note to Bitmain: add a cool-down cycle that is triggered by unplugging the net cable).  After an air blast in the garage to get rid of the dust, proceeded to take off the fan and end brackets using a folded piece of cardboard to separate the fins on the heat sink.  Next, I removed one of the two ASIC boards with the dozen or so spring screws (clever!) and noticed that the thermal compound on the 1384 chips was mostly missing !  Maybe an unfortunate over-heat in a prior life, who knows.  After cleaning up the heatsink and board with contact cleaner followed by iso alcohol, I applied some GELID Solutions GC-Extreme thermal compound to the chips, installed the first board, ditto for the second one.

Bottom line, new thermal compound resulted in 600 RPM fan reduction and 8-10 Deg C in temperature !  Took about an hour for the first one and $5.00 in Gelid compound.  Happy camper here !

mine runs about 50c and the fan is around 3800 rpm..

is this what you are getting? i dont have another one to compare.. should i take apart and repaste?

That S5 was running in the low 60's at 3960 RPM - After the thermal compound it dropped to 50 at 3240 with the same room temperature.  Lower HW errors too.  I'll pull the next worst one tonight and repaste it for comparison.   The Gelid stuff is really stiff and gluey compared to the Arctic Silver compound.   That's probably a good thing Smiley  If I were completely ADHD I'd sort the boards across units and get matched sets lol.

Of the 6 I just ordered one is running noticeably hotter than the rest.  I think I know what I'm doing next weekend.
