161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WTF is with LTC and GOX on: June 23, 2013, 09:42:18 PM

If you do know it exists, you are going to be buying it on BTC-e or where ever, but very many people don't trust that site because its not American - damn racist, I know, but that is life! Wink

mtgox isn't american either, its japanese.

did i miss the cutoff? im too lazy to count.  im a sucker for a coin with a fun name!  a little advice tho, you might wanna make the wallet a little easier to find. i know its from china and all, but it took some real digging to find the download link.   this is the link : https://www.dropbox.com/s/mwfuivhezrg930k/dnc.zip
oh also how come the coin icon says SC ? some weird chinese thing?  Maybe this is the blockchain coded by the foreign exchange student guy who stole the asic ppls litecoins and gear.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Litecoin means for Bitcoin (and crypto in general) once it's on Mt.Gox on: June 22, 2013, 12:53:38 AM
being a silver hoarder i was naturally attracted to litecoin from the beginning.  The fact is that crypto currency is such a good idea that there is room for more than 1 blockchain in the world.  If the fear is that it will somehow dilute bitcoin i believe thats unfounded. Seeing as how you could combine the sum total of both currencies and not even get 100 million they are both rare enough to be valuable. There is easily more than 100 million ounces of gold in the world and yet its still considered extremely rare.   Sure there are a gazillion alt coins now basically ripping off litecoin but thats the cool thing about the free market, it decides what has merit and what doesn't.  Thats why bitcoin will be king, ltc will be the queen and i believe theres room for a prince or two thats yet undecided.  The coins that spring up just because someone with a little coding knowledge wants to get rich off bein an early miner *cough* sc io ix *cough* will never gain any traction.

Im kind of surprised namecoin hasn't really gained ground. I guess its because there is no gui wallet for it and pretty much no community/dev support.  I could see them being incredibly valuable in the next five years just because they allow ppl to circumvent costly domain registration services.  kind of how palladium wasn't worth a whole lot until  it was found to be  an inexpensive way to dilute platinum in catalytic converters etc...

i had a big debate about this over a campfire the other weekend with a friend who is a bitcoin snob.  So its still in my mind.  I think its just human nature that there will always be people that want 50 of something versus 1 of something even if the values are similar.

167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proposal to change Bitcoins hashing algorithm to Scrpyt-Jane on: June 14, 2013, 11:30:56 PM
i think sha256 is what will keep bitcoin the gold standard vs litecoin the silver standard. I've noticed all the 100+ alt coins that have come out of the woodwork all seem to use scrypt.  i guess thats bc anyone can mine your chain for a long period of time.  the asic arms race has got a little crazy, and ithink its funny how its not playing out like everyone expected (i remember when any miner i'd talk to would say "gpu mining will be completely dead by november 2012).  i've already made the switch to ltc with my gpu rigs but thats mostly bc i think litecoin is undervalued.   oh well i guess only time will tell.
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal's Employee Policy on Bitcoin on: June 13, 2013, 10:35:39 PM
lol if you tell a paypal customer service guy you can't wait to see bitcoin destroy their company your account gets suspended for suspicious activity. at least mine did about 10 minutes after i hung up the call.  im pretty sure ebay won't let you use money orders as a payment option, i've had several auctions pulled because they contained a reference to money orders.  never sold anything for bitcoin tho, i've tried to avoid paypal ebay anymore since there is cheaper/better options.
i wondered about bfl too, since i saw where it said a vendor needed to have a product ready to ship. bfl isn't the only asic company accepting paypal
169  Economy / Economics / Re: Stock bitcoins and stop selling. Let price go above 200$ on: June 13, 2013, 12:41:36 PM
i try not sell bitcoin as much as possible. i have been doing some things to try and support bitcoin. definately if i am going to purchase something i try to buy it with bitcoins first.  the other thing i've been doing is trying to spread the wealth. Back when btc was 8 dollars each i made up cd roms with 1 btc in a wallet.dat file and gave them away to my coworkers friends and family. when btc went up to 200+ and was all over the news quite a few of those ppl downloaded wallets.  i dunno how much that helps but i figure it can't hurt.  i try not to think of the 25ish bitcoins i gave away.

171  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is my Radeon 7950 temperature so high? on: May 30, 2013, 09:44:28 PM
i had this same problem with a sapphire 7950. it would jack right up to 100 within five minutes of mining. all the other cards on the mobo were an acceptable 78 degrees. i rma'd it and got back a card that can't mine for S*** so now im dealing with that. boy o mining is fun!

174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WSO-LTC | LTC Poker made right | Holdem, Plo, and Tournaments on: April 09, 2013, 11:25:30 PM
yeah on the one hand it said it was in beta and it could just be down to reopen on the 12th but pretty fishy how it went down. definately anyone who didn't just use their burner pwd change seals but we as a community are so jaded that everything is a scam. seems kind of dumb to open a litecoin poker site to fish seals pwds tho, as a litecoin poker  site = gold mine over the next year or so.
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WSO-LTC | LTC Poker made right | Holdem, Plo, and Tournaments on: April 09, 2013, 12:57:35 PM
sites down?
176  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any Idea who is behind the sealswithclubs DDOS attack? on: March 25, 2013, 07:08:53 AM
also just a coincidence that all the major litecoin pools under ddos attacks recently as well?
177  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any Idea who is behind the sealswithclubs DDOS attack? on: March 25, 2013, 06:45:34 AM
vel, yeah i think in the seals thread it was bandied about that it could be  a mainstream/large casino behind the attack.  I was kind of against it because at the end of the day seals only has like 300-400 active users, although that is growing extremely rapidly (at least compared to the growth in 2012). Now looking it over I could see the scenario of some major exec playing on it (and getting crushed by somebody going all in with 9 2 os) and deciding that it will be a threat in the coming few years (which it will).  Then hiring a shady hacker shmoe to ddos.  So Seals goes down but not in a way that attracts attention to it (which is what would happen if the casinos sicked their doj lapdogs on them).
Another Scenario has a religous extremist who also is really into bitcoins bringing the site down bc gambling is "immoral" and gives bitcoin a bad name.
Space aliens could be DDOSing Seals With Clubs because they found out Freemoney knows how to free Xenu.
It could be also that freemoney is really good looking Irl And only dates hot chicks with large botnets.  He started seeing a girl with a bigger botnet than the previous girl and the xgf got pissed.
It could be that bfl josh decided he wanted his quarter back. so he called up someone with a clue and offered them a dime to ddos seals.
The Russian Mafia could be mad that their couriers keep losing all their heroin profits in the 25/50 cash game. Since the main courier is the head boss's favorite nephew, its easier to bring the site down than cut out his eyes.
did i mention it could be jaguars?
theres so many possibilities and unless someone steps up and claims responsibilty (which seems unlikely if it hasn't happened yet) we can only speculate.  so far everyone elses theorys are far more valid than mine.  but i sure do like trying!
178  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTConTilt.com online again? Have scammed me.... on: March 25, 2013, 06:24:35 AM
yeah drawing, i don't think its an intentional scam, just someone who is disappointed that it didn't take off like it could have.  he's def right natural keep at it eventually someone might get back to you.
179  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any Idea who is behind the sealswithclubs DDOS attack? on: March 25, 2013, 05:17:14 AM
i think the phrase "tongue in cheek" is appropriate here.  i was also going to put forth the theory that someone wanted to kick chumlee in the balls irl but since they couldn't they ddos'd the site.  Cyprus was just an example.  i could have said like china, which would maybe make more sense on account we know they love hacking stuff.  the idea of some government agency deciding to ddos seals is a little crazy anyway, but so is anyone wanting to ddos seals unless its a blanket attack on successful bitcoin sites.  another theory im really fond of is that maybe its jaguars.
180  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTConTilt.com online again? Have scammed me.... on: March 25, 2013, 04:55:13 AM
that sucks natural im sorry to hear that.  bitcontilt has been around a while but its like theres never anyone on there.  I was never able to get the client to work and never heard back from admins when i tried to contact them about it.  go figure.  they were prob the original btc poker site and they went down for a while then tried a big relaunch (most likely thats where all the webpage claims etc come from) a few months back but i don't think it ever picked up.  pretty sure the admins just abandoned it but left the website/server up.  The rumor i kept hearing was that it was mostly bots at the cash tables. but like i said i couldn't get it to work and i don't have any hard evidence just conjecture due to no admins ever responding to anything.   i really wanna play 7 card stud for bitcoins which was what made me try it out in the first place.  hope you get your coins back
