161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Indonesian Government Banned Bitcoin on: December 13, 2017, 06:39:42 PM
Indonesian Central Bank is only bluffing. They dislike Indonesian people holding currencies other than rupiah. They don't want us Indonesian people benefiting or being rich from bitcoin. We Indonesians will not subdue to these centralized & corrupt scumbags. I still hold my bitcoins and my other alts. I couldn't wait what they are going to do next week.

Most govenments are missing it. Trump knows he cant stop it...hes just like we are watching the bitcoin. Cause knows the reality. But i this some gvt just say things they have no idea of

Another suppressive country who's inhabitants specially need Bitcoin to free themselves from the tirany of their corrupt, control freak, selfish, extortionating leaders, who keep 98% of the population poor by enriching themselves shamelessly.
and this sort of oppression is something that the idea of bitcoin goes against, resists even. the decentralization of bitcoin puts its strength in the numbers of its users, and prevents one single entity from taking control of the network without an unreasonable amount of effort and investment. ideally, i'd like to see bitcoin win over this sort of oppression, but it only goes as far as the people and users are willing to. that being said, im not too familiar with the indonesian government and how it operates, and this ban might not be the result of oppression, but bitcoin is fully capable of weathering through much more than this.

162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: South Korea ban of all crypto transactions. on: December 13, 2017, 05:01:20 PM
Financial Services Commission (FSC) Chairman Choi Jong-Ku said on Monday that it was considering measures to restrict cryptocurrency transactions to some extent which includes “an all-out ban.”

“We are discussing to what extent the government will regulate the trade. Including the prohibition of trade”. he said at an at a luncheon meeting on Monday.

The clarification comes after news spread on Friday that South Korea was already considering banning all kinds of transactions.

great clickbait title for this thread. not only has legislation not even begun, it's just the chairman of the commission dropping some statements about considerations that may or may not take place. that being said, personally, i'm surprised that the chairman feels this way, but individuals do have their own thoughts and opinions, it's just politics. however, even though this may be the mindset of the chairman, i doubt that a complete ban would actually go through, it's not as if law is implemented just because the chairman of the commission says they want it.

Every month the same news. It makes me sick  Angry

South Korea will not ban cryptocurrencies man. They will regulate it, because it’s a monster business nowadays.
thats what i feel will be the end result after all the politics passes, but that's hopeful thinking on my part i think. certainly would be nice though, having a regulated environment that would provide a safe environment for the development of cryptocurrencies.
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can Bitcoin help the developing world? on: December 13, 2017, 03:01:01 PM
Imagine if all the poor people in africa put all their wealth in bitcoin.
in 3 years they would be richer than the western world!!!!!

this is no joke.
sounds like a joke to me, especially since only about 31% of africa has access to internet (as of june 2017 estimates). that doesn't even mean that 31% of africans have access to a reliable connection, or the means to access channels of purchasing and using bitcoin. hell they might not even have practical uses for bitcoin in their situation. that being said, im not even sure that some of these people on the brink of having a reliable internet connection have money to spare for bitcoin. sounds to me you made that joke of a post to spam if anything.

Well, bitcoin give work for those who are jobless. It help to increase our ecomic life. Many people invest in bitcoin and there is some stores and restaurant now that accept bitcoin. That is how bitcoin help the developing world.
bitcoin gives jobs? is bitcoin an international employer of some sort? great spam. forum's really gone to shit.

165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be too big to fail? on: December 12, 2017, 06:56:56 PM
My opinion is that Bitcoin will not fail because it is based on blockchain technology, which is by far the most modern technology. So the more the blockchain system develops, the more Bitcoin space will grow, at least for now. I think so
just because some technology was recently developed doesn't mean it can't fail. the blockchain's strength lies in the decentralization and the numerous nodes keeping the network strong. should off of these nodes go offline, and all existing, up to date copies of the blockchain deleted from our hard drives (without any sort of backup), the bitcoin network would essentially disappear, and so would all the progress bitcoin has made in the past 8ish years.

No the company and management of bitcoin performs excellent in the public market.
Their dedication, hard work, passion and perseverance just to provide an excellent service give them more chance to survive in this industry.

In my opinion, the current fall of Bitcoin is impossible. It has developed very well and has come into effect in almost every human being in well-developed countries. He can not threaten anything.
read what i said above. it's an unlikely scenario, but it definitely is possible.
166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if bitcoin miners stop? on: December 12, 2017, 06:05:30 PM
Even when electricity price for mining will be more than the price of bitcoin - miners will continue mining because of thinking about growing up of bitcoin price. So, miners never stop.
that was already the case a few years back after a sizable price crash, and a good number of miners shut their rigs off, but a good deal of miners stayed active, keeping the network active.

Theoretically, the network would be totally fucked.

That said, it's pretty much impossible for that ever to happen.  Miners currently receive 12.5 BTC as the block reward, plus all of the transaction fees, when they mine a block.

In the unlikely scenario that a large number of miners stopped, the blocks would slow down until the next difficulty adjustment.  When the next adjustment occurred, it would keep the blocks being mined approximately every 10 minutes, so there would be a much, much larger reward and mining would be many times more profitable than it was before.

At that point, more miners would hop on (or hop back on for that matter).  It's a self-adjusting system.
the difficulty is adjusted every block though, is it not? the difficulty adjusts for the next block accordingly based on the current hash rate of the network so that statistically, it would take 10 minutes for a block to be mined. and how would the reward be bigger? it's set to continue giving 12.5 btc every block until the next halvening, and so on.

167  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are bitcoins only for the educated and knowledgeable people only? on: December 12, 2017, 05:51:17 PM
I don't think so bitcoin is for everybody who are willing to join the forum and has the knowledge and ability to understand about the forum even thou she or he didn't have a college degree.
and since when does the forum itself equate to bitcoin? you spammers never actually read the garbage that comes out do you?

The IRS now classifies cryptocurrencies as "property." I found this paper helpful for understanding the tax implications/issues: https://scholarship.law.duke.edu/dltr/vol16/iss1/1/.
I skimmed over the paper, seems it slightly covers what i already suspected would if a tax system were to be implemented: it would mostly consist of employers reporting salaries and wages paid in bitcoin onto w-2 and 1099 forms, and even touches on how differentiation pertaining to the constantly changing price of bitcoin. the paper is a great outline on how things would likely proceed if an actual tax code were to be implemented, and it's heading in a generally good direction.
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Mining vs Buying on: December 12, 2017, 10:23:48 AM
I buy some bitcoins each month and also I buy hashpower somewhere,  seems some of minging are good, but mostly losing money.
if it's losing you money, then how is it good? cloud mining are mostly ponzi schemes anyways, you might as well get out while you can.

Its better to buy the bitcoins rather than mining. Because in mining you need resources and continue monitoring of the resources and you will also need continue connectivity with internet with high speed. So that thing i think will be less profitable than buying.
how so? mining is pretty low maintenance, proportional to the size of the mining operation that's being run. maintaining an internet connection? buy a plan that fits your needs and is reliable. something breaks? fix the problem every now and then. it's really low - effort, almost no effort required in something small like a home operation.

I think BTC mining makes it easier for BTC to mine than to buy mine because it's a coal mine so if I choose BTC mining just because it's easy to mine

as above, the maintenance might be minimal, but the setup, especially in larger setups, can be daunting.
169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Evolution Of Currency: From Gold To Bitcoin on: December 11, 2017, 08:38:15 PM
Bitcoin is not the evolution of something. It is the new era of currency.
um... think you've contradicted yourself there, you're implying that bitcoin is the next step in the iterations of currency, but denying it at the same time. but that's exactly what it is; bitcoin is simply the next step in the evolution of currency that we're come to. it might not be too much longer before we completely break away from fiat and move on to the era of digital currencies.

BTC brings the new era of digitalization and millions of people are flowing in the waves of BTC. So it is the future of planet, the digital planet.
as much potential  bitcoin has for helping to urge in the digital era, i still think it'll be quite a while before it actually happens, and for a very simple reason: a good portion of the world has yet to acquire the infrastructure to support this change. until the third world countries of today are brought up to speed, this world won't truly have moved on.
170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoin will be sustainable through the registration of the people? on: December 11, 2017, 10:01:02 AM
If you mean people will need to register their wallets to use bitcoin, then it won't be sustainable. No one would appreciate having all their transactions be public.
all transactions are already public, its just that not every transaction is instantly linkable to irl identities given address inputs and outputs, unless those addresses are already known to belong to certain individuals. however, i don't see why you think this alone would cause bitcoin to collapse. i just don't see how you can make that jump in logic there. of course no one would like it, but i don't see how that would cause an instant collapse in the use of bitcoin.

I'm a bit confused with what you're talking about here, but I'll try to answer it, no one can be sure how long Bitcoin will keep standing but if more people involved in Bitcoin it will only affect the health of the market, not extend the life of Bitcoin.
not exactly, the more people are involved, the more likely it is that there will be more core nodes running, which actually strengthen the security of the bitcoin network (this is a fact), so yes, it actually does benefit bitcoin, which improves bitcoin's survivability.
171  Other / Meta / Re: Politics & Society Forum has become off topic. on: December 11, 2017, 02:21:03 AM
The Politics & Society Forum has died and been Reborn as the Sub OFF Topic forum.

It used to be interesting discussing Russian,American,Chinese Etc. Ideology, ways of life for certain countries. Problems,Solutions,Theories Etc.

Now it has become a Cesspool of shit with mainly off Topic...Topics.

The Moderator Running that Should be fired Immediately.

WTF happened to that forum?
i used to frequent that section, havent visited it in a while though. just taking a peek into it, it's gotten quite bad honestly, much worse than  when i used to browse it anyways.

Also, there is no mod of that sub forum but this is also something I've been urging for months.
it'd be tricky moderating that section though, with political and religious (and many more) discussions going on, deleting some posts equates to censorship, or preferring one side of the argument over another (not the best phrasing maybe, but you get the idea). of course, deleting obviously off topic posts would be easy, but i'd feel that many people would try to push the rules on posting there, just adding bits relevant to the discussion while having 95% of the post be off topic garbage. just my thoughts though, no saying how it would actually go in practice.
172  Economy / Reputation / Re: False trust rating on: December 11, 2017, 12:48:31 AM
the user who left the rating is the only one that can remove it, and the administration rarely does so, and only under special circumstances. it's an untrusted rating anyways, and doesn't really matter too much. just ignore it knowing their rating is worthless, not much you can do about it anyways, and convincing them to remove the rating is probably going to be more effort than it's worth.
173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Serious topic: how can we be sure Bitcoin will not be banned by most countries? on: December 10, 2017, 09:13:43 PM

Its impossible to ban the bitcoin in all country. Because there's one country who made thw bitcoin and im sure about that. If no country create the bitcoin then why as of now the bitcoin is alive ? Im sure that the givernment of that country is make a way to sure the bitcoin can't destroy

In the thread he does not mention all country but most country.
I think always any possibility that most people will ban bitcoin depending on how the government think about bitcoin.
Bitcoin is not perfect, positive and negative are staying in bitcoin. If government just see bitcoin from negative side,  most probably they will ban bitcoin.
But in my mind i hope its not happen.
if by government, you mean the legislators that actually write the laws, then yes. whatever decisions these people make is the end result. lets take the us government as an example; if these legislators (congressmen) think badly of bitcoin, and a majority do (hypothetically) we can expect legislation to be written that negatively impacts bitcoin (of course, money is a big influence if people choose to 'influence' these legislators).

well , even if the countries banned bitcoin, but it is a decentralized network ,

so it is impossible do that unless all the Internet paralysis.
not necessarily, it wouldnt have to go that far in order to effectively cripple or disable bitcoin. all that would need to be done is for isp's to block connections to the bitcoin network, and im sure they could manage to find out a way to do that, if they don't already know how. with that in effect, the internet could still function as it has been without disruptions, yet effectively cripple the bitcoin network.
174  Other / Meta / Re: Moving to Cloudflare on: December 10, 2017, 09:13:17 PM
Well how about asking tor users to sign a message from the bitcoin address they registered with instead?

Each time they log in they could be given a unique code and asked to sign a message containing it. That wouldn't cost them anything, and signing a message would be faster than going through endless cloudflare captchas.

registering for a forum account doesn't require a Bitcoin address, only an email address.

Anyone registering through tor has to pay a small bitcoin fee, so all those users have bitcoin addresses associated with their accounts.
that's only if the exit node ip has points of evil associated with it though, i could imagine some new nodes might not have any points linked to them.

if there isnt a date / time included in the ban message at the top of the page along with the message notifying you of your ban, it is permanent. otherwise, the ban will last until the specified date / time.
177  Other / Meta / Re: Unsolicited Pms on: December 04, 2017, 03:32:37 PM
I can only send PMs to 20 members per hour, so they must have some automated system of sending from multiple accounts. Maybe it would be worth limiting messages to one member per hour until you get to full member rank.
i dont think this is at all a good idea, even members below the 'full member' rank conduct trades and have conversations through the pm system here, limiting the message rate itself isnt a bad idea, but 1 hour seems rather extreme. maybe setting the pm timer to double that of the post timers (or another similar multiplier) would be a more reasonable solution. dunno if that can be easily implemented though, if the way it's coded restricts people from either posting / sending a message every x seconds, rather than a post every x seconds and a message every x seconds as separate actions with independent timers.

This is a large problem, I am getting bounty offers via PM mass spammed to my account. Moderators please fix this.
i really havent gotten anything, maybe they scour the altcoin section and have a script set up to pm anyone that just posts there.
178  Other / Meta / Re: New ranks?? Copper Member? on: December 03, 2017, 05:39:24 PM
this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104.msg24371150#msg24371150
in other news, we've moved to cloudflare, as theymos's homebrew ddos protection failed.
179  Other / Meta / Re: Prohibiting newbies from starting a topic on: December 03, 2017, 04:29:51 PM
the main idea of the forum is not to herd the experienced users together and leave the rest outside,we all have been newbies at some point
we all made mistakes(well, the majority of us :\  ) and to restrict the newbies even further will not help
with the increased price and adoption, expect many more people to come here
and statistically, there are at least 5% of inadequate people and 16.97% of spammers so every fifth post is a shitpost anyhow, newbie or not  Grin
pretty sure a good portion of the shitposts (outside of the altcoin section, i cant speak for it) come from bought / farmed accounts for the purposes of sig campaigns. fud and altcoin pumping aside, these accounts are the ones with more of a reason to spam (money). not sure how they all manage to post so much, even 30 good posts in a week i feel is a lot.

Nah, often times the reason people join is to ask a question. If they are blocked from asking their question the moment they join it will be much more difficult to integrate them into the community
havent really thought about it that way, but i have noticed it quite a lot. thanks for pointing that out, simple as it may have been.
180  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] a way to clean up those junkers and farmers? on: December 03, 2017, 11:53:20 AM
You are Newbie, but you doesn't sound like a newbie with this kind of suggestion. Your suggestion is ok, few people saw it already and some of them supported the idea. But I think you didn't count good how much newbies here on the forum and how much of them will not support those things that you offer. The next thing is that such simple users as you and me disn't make this forum and we do not set the rules here. And even if some one of the forum's heads will see it I doubt that the idea will succeed. But at least you suggested something new and you were heard.
To be honest I am newbie at this forum. Trying to gain rank because of the rules too. But in the way to do it and the post that I read is too much junk already..
posts are only deleted / action is taken only if a forum rule is broken, and even though a post might be mindless, regurgitated junk, if it falls within the forum's rules, action won't be taken. your suggestion has merit, although i really dont expect actual newbies to know exactly how the forum runs, or even some members who have been here for under a year. it would help them immensely in maybe learning how things work around here though.

Newbie can't post at all, only can report junkers (Confirmed by mods first) on the forum to earn points so he/she can post something to ask or gain ranks. You can put some points or karma or something for it. And set the limit you must reach first so you can earn 1 post.. As reported post you can give the penalty anything you like, but if you asking my opinion then it is cutting their 5-10 activity and demoting their ranks or bans..
Then it won't be so damn hard for them to go to off topic and report all posts, and after some time when there won't be anything to report newbies won't be able to post anything. Right?  Grin

Someone suggested newbie jail - but moderators can't really block posts in games and rounds(for example yabat) and I am sure moderators have better things to do in their lives than approving posts whole day and night.

I have better suggestion - add more moderators!
This forum needs at least...hmm...lets see...how many sections and boards? 60+?
In my opinion this forum needs 120 moderators.
There you go. Problem solved.

It's just - You can't run this forum with 5 moderators(number can be wrong) and expect from them to moderate 1357253 users and more than 50000 posts every day.
that we do, although my opinion doesn't matter when it comes to this topic, its all up to theymos / cyrus on bringing in more staff.
