1601  Economy / Economics / Re: Would You Consider Adding Bitcoin to Your Retirement Savings on: August 12, 2023, 11:13:42 AM
of course one day we will be old but of course we will continue to need money even though we are old and I think investing in btc for the long term is a good thing and we can enjoy it when we are old, but of course we must be prepared for the risks. and I also have btc and I plan to keep it until I'm old but of course the best investment is still in gold with the aim of not being affected by inflation, and I also invest in gold.

Bitcoin as an investment is good but like you said there are risks, but if you are already planning that when you get old then I'm sure you are already more than aware of those risks. And with that you should also be aware that having btc as your only source of income when you retire is a big no and should be accompanied by other more stable assets and investments. Good work on the gold investment btw, a good move from you.
1602  Economy / Economics / Re: New Research found Work from home workers to be less productive on: August 12, 2023, 10:49:48 AM
I know something about that since I have a little kid at home and my wife takes care of her. When I work from home they treat me like I'm still there to help.

I used to work downstairs but it was unbearable. For instance my wife would ask me things, talk to me, share thoughts, treat me like I was there watching TV, not working and focusing on my task. I moved upstairs, but it's still the same, just that she screams to me from downstairs asking me if I can come down because of whatever, like there's a spider, or the cart brought in a lizard, or a million other things of similar importance.
Without a doubt that can be hard and it makes sense that you may feel you are more productive at the office as you would have way less distractions, however there are arguments on favor for working from home as well, as not only you can avoid commuting from and to your job, save on clothes, gasoline and food, but if you like your job and you are good at it you could even finish it in just a fraction of the time, and use the rest of your time in something you may like more.

You are correct. The two work settings both have pros and cons, and those are also dependent on the worker. Some prefers working from home and some likes working on site. We cannot really judge it that easily as we all have different situations and work environment. It all comes down to personal preferences at the end of the day.
1603  Economy / Economics / Re: Are short-term rentals to blame for the lack of housing? on: August 12, 2023, 10:28:52 AM
I can't really relate to this as I am not renting, but what I've noticed is that in my place, it's starting now with those homeowners converting their homes into air BNB, which is short-term rentals, which means they aim for a higher price, and the place is also good, but we still have those rental properties that can be rented for a long time, I think because we are in a 3rd world country and there is still a lot of development. I'm not sure if the government can intervene on it, but there must be regulations about those Airbnbs because local people will suffer like you or other low-income earners because it's too expensive to rent or there is no available property to rent for a long period of time.
I doubt that the government will be able to do much regarding this matter. After all, as long as the renters or landlords/landladies are paying their taxes they have nothing to penalize them for. Sadly however it is the public, especially those with low income, are suffering because of this matter. Rents are getting more and more expensive and most of the time renewing your rent costs a lot.
1604  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A person who won 600k$ in lottery on: August 11, 2023, 11:58:30 PM
Well, that's why a person needs to have financial literacy so that when they get their hands on some money, they should know how to spend it so that it doesn't finish and keeps adding up to the total that they have won or got from somewhere. Buying mansions, cars, and other luxury items might give you pleasure initially, but they won't give you money when you have exhausted the total amount, that is when you will need to start selling your properties one by one.

So the first step when one wins an amount that high should be to think of doing something that will earn them money in return. Start a business that you know you can run efficiently and it can be pretty profitable for you so that your money keeps increasing instead of decreasing when you start spending it.

The problem is that these lucky ones have never had such an experience. All their lives they lived from paycheck to paycheck and they simply do not understand what it means to "save money" and even more so "make money work". Therefore, when they receive huge money (in case of winning), they continue to act according to the only model that they know - they only spend money. Naturally, sooner or later any money ends.

And this is where financial advisors come in. A lot of people who managed to win huge sums of money who came from poverty, always think that financial advisors are a waste of money and will always be doing things against them when the reality is the opposite. I'd rather pay some people who are knowledgeable in handling finances rather than figure things myself while losing a lot of money in the process. $600k might sound a lot, but it’s not. What’s paying $1000+ for consultation when it’ll save you hundreds of thousands in the long run?
1605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sudden Wealth Syndrome (SWS) In Gambling on: August 11, 2023, 11:35:51 PM
Sudden Wealth Syndrome SWS anxiety has killed a lot of people that I have heard. There were some gambling that won a big amount of boy and because the over excitement BP rise up and killed them. And I also heard a local chief in my clan. A state Governor game him $7,000 and immediately he saw the money and he fainted and died. Those who have not seen such huge amount of always display different kind of drama.

There's also a story like this in my neighborhood, because of so much excitement he experienced severe stroke though he's still doing good right now and slowly recovering. The reaction is normal though after winning the jackpot or huge amount of money, and it will always depend on how you handle the situation and with this you should focus more on your mind over matter. You have to be healthy as well if you're into gambling, don't let your body becomes weak or else your emotion can take over you instantly.

You can’t blame them. I would probably feel the same, or at least can’t contain my excitement since I get that huge amount of money. A lot of people wouldn’t feel chill after solving all of their financial problems in a wink of an eye. A stroke, though, is something that is on the extreme side of things that I think (thankfully) wouldn’t happen to me. Unfortunately, it happens, because sudden success isn’t all too common anywhere.
1606  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reckless gambling starts after a win round. on: August 11, 2023, 11:11:21 PM
Based on my experience, gambling addiction may develop and grow in anticipation of future profits. It does not matter whether you have tasted some wins or not, but the fact that beginner gamblers are hunger with money and profits, then addiction will easily come to develop. However, in some gamblers, they only develop gambling addiction once they have experienced potential profits. Because they feel that if they continue gambling, there will be more profits waiting for them. That’s when reality sucks when all they gained are losses.

It will depend heavily on the gambler. No matter the outcome, if the gambler develops an affinity to gambling, he/she will always go back to it. Like me, I don't care about the outcome of my gambling sessions, but I feel like I'm entertained while playing the dice for hours plus it burns a lot of time from me on the weekends when I'm not doing anything. It all depends on how the person's overall outlook in gambling. Potential profits or not, if they find a liking on the activity, they'd continue doing it.
1607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Legality of Online Gambling in Different Countries on: August 11, 2023, 10:23:55 PM
there are still many people who already know that gambling is prohibited in their country. They still try to gamble online and even use VPNs to bypass restrictions from their country. And even if they find a reputable casino, they should also ensure that it allows their users to use a VPN. Otherwise, that user will only get into trouble from his casino. But maybe there are still people who can play gambling in peace, even though they come from countries where gambling is prohibited and also use VPNs to gamble in online casinos.
No, you can't be in peace if you are gambling from illegal countries. There is still a thought of what if you got caught? What will be the consequences of it? But, I am sure it's going to be tough. So, if I were you guys who are planning to gamble illegally, it's better to not do it.

There might still be other ways to entertain your self but if you can afford to travel in other countries, this might be a good idea to gamble there legally. I know some reputable online casinos that allows VPN but I think its this is only for the countries who are not on their restricted list. VPN still has a benefit and that is it can speed up a slow connection. It can as well enhance our privacy.

I'm from a country that has laws against online gambling, but influencers and even celebrities promote online gambling platforms. The government has these laws and regulations against online gambling but they are not that keen into enforcing the law against possible law-breakers. I'd say that the laws here are pretty lax with regards to online gambling albeit it being an illegal activity. We can pretty much gamble online even without the use of VPN unless the platform explicitly disallows them from using the platform.
1608  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Ano nga ba ang Vishing? on: August 11, 2023, 03:19:31 PM
Totoo ito, sobrang dami ko rin natanggap na text about sa pang sscam. Like nanalo sa raffle, hihingin details mo.
1609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you had a time traveling machine, then? on: August 11, 2023, 03:00:42 PM
during the times when the value of Bitcoin was still low, I think those who sold it had no remorse for what they were doing in these times. Because of course in these days they know that they have income and that is a big thing at least for sure.

Then who would have thought that the value of Bitcoin would be like this, and based on the movies I've seen that show when people can go back in the past, history is also changed in the future, so that means if the time traveling machine is real for sure whatever bitcoin's value is today it won't be like that and its name won't explode in my opinion.

I'm sure a lot of people will regret not buying bitcoins when they were cheap, but now the price of btc has gone up, and I don't think there is a time travel machine yet, but I think we have to accept and see reality now and collect as much btc as possible, so you don't regret it . at a later time. but to be honest I also had a fantasy that if I could visit the past and I would buy as much btc as possible, but yes we have to accept reality now.

It's a good and understandable fantasy. A relatable what-if from you. Because same, I would love to go back in the past and buy as much btc as I can. However, it is what it is, we are here now and we grew organically. All we can do now is be smart with what we have and how we are going to let what we have to grow for our future. Sadly, as much as we want to have control of our past all we can have a hand on controlling is our future by being smart in the present.
1610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gas station payment with bitcoin. on: August 11, 2023, 02:32:44 PM
What you have done is good. You can be saving and storing bitcoin from there too. But the only thing for now is that you might not have enough customers who are into bitcoin in the moment but at time goes on, they will increase. And how is your experience on the transaction duration? I mean does it take time? And which of the wallet are you using bro received the payment?
As expected, because till now, Bitcoin serves as another payment option. Although we can post "Bitcoin is Accepted here", but if the people around you are no-how about Bitcoin, I don't think it will work. However, it was a good way of starting crypto exposure because that will also gain interest, and asking what is Bitcoin as for sure it creates curiosity which could lead to searching. Who could benefit from it? Of course, everyone, and the more we spread Bitcoin, the more it will encourage businesses to accept it.
You have a good point here. It is a subtle way of exposing Bitcoin to those who are not aware of it. Imagine two people at the counter paying at the same time and one of them will be paying for Bitcoin, surely the other will hear about this and will get curious. Now that person will either ask on the go what Bitcoin is or will conduct his/her own research. In a way that act just started an effect, soon after that very same person will discuss Bitcoin to his family and friends.
1611  Economy / Economics / Re: What's the effect of having plenty children to the national economy of a country on: August 11, 2023, 02:16:12 PM
This issues of having plenty children isn't right at all, to my own ideas having more than five children is not advisable in the society more especially if the parents doesn't have enough money to take good care of their children both educationally and financially, this can make children suffer for no reason, like my home we don't have much money but we can survive on daily basis because we are not much in the family two (2) boy and a girl.
I heard a man said that sex is the only pleasure the poor can have because they don't have the money to get it out side their family and I think that's true, some families have more than ten (10) children because of the selfish pleasures they want and it's not good, no matter how rich or poor anybody can be, is better to have family planing so our children won't suffer for no reason.
Unfortunately and as sad as it is the reason you provided is true. Many individuals and couples from the poor sector of the community have stated that unprotected sex has become such a daily thing for them that it can be categorized as a hobby. And these same people are the ones who have 6 or more children in their family which are all not enjoying the rights they have, such as rights to education and rights to have a decent environment to live in.
1612  Economy / Economics / Re: New Research found Work from home workers to be less productive on: August 11, 2023, 01:50:11 PM
No I think this is the opposite, the corporate environment can create many distractions and interruptions, from commuting to time spent on social media. When you come to work, you may feel more tired and easily get lost in leisure activities instead of work.
You're ridiculous, how is it possible that in a work environment with clear and formal rules you're allowed to do things outside of duty? Unless you're a typical worker who likes to break rules that are not implemented too strictly.
To be fair, if you have a busy home, like a wife and a few kids, and you do not explain them well enough that you need to work and they do not respect your working space, then it's true that you are going to be able to be a lot more productive at work. But if you are single, or married with no kids, or married with kids but they all respect your working space, those are all things that can make you even more productive.

As someone who has worked at home for god knows how long, I can tell you that it's definitely better to work at home. I am a lot more productive at home because nobody bothers me here, and I am in my own room and working for hours and hours a day every single day and that makes it a lot better without a doubt.

This is true, it really depends on the situation you have at home and how your household is being handled. It depends on the attitude and environment you have to ensure that you will be productive or not. I know a lot of people who work from home and are really doing well with their job despite being married and having kids. While I also know people who work on-site and are doing just as well.
1613  Economy / Economics / Re: The future of Farming. on: August 11, 2023, 01:18:00 PM
It's sad to see what used to be an exporting country and now an importing country, agricultural land is getting narrower coupled with human resources who are less enthusiastic about farming, especially for young people, because they think farming is not a cool job. therefore, with the development of technology, in terms of production, the government should encourage agricultural technology that can increase production even though agricultural land is decreasing. or in my country where large areas can open up land for the development of agricultural areas
It's really unfortunate that something like this could happen to a country that used to be an exporter, now it's becoming an importer. Maybe there needs to be an effort from the government to develop young people in agriculture, if someone thinks farming is not a cool job then that's wrong, in my opinion now farming using sophisticated technology is very different from before.
the main factor that must be addressed is a cleaner government so that people can think about the importance of human resources, therefore even though they are blessed with abundant natural resources, if they do not have good human resources, then it will be in vain. to make a better government is not easy because there are politicians who are sometimes more selfish or group concerned, so this can hinder the development of a country
Changing things that have become habits is not an easy thing, we have to start from the smallest scope first, like we have to teach our children first. Selfish politicians can influence the field of government, but with efforts to change the next generation for the better, maybe we can see more honest politicians in the future.
And I agree, we can start with ourselves and our family. If we want better and more honest politicians then let us start raising our kids like that, more so we can teach our kids to know who to vote and to do it selflessly for the country. Every change we want to see should start within the comfort of ourselves and our homes. Start small then those small changes will contribute to a bigger change and setting. Sooner or later we'll see these changes take effect, maybe not for us but for the future generation.
1614  Economy / Economics / Re: Entrepreneurship and women on: August 11, 2023, 01:01:04 PM
Seeing today's technological developments, of course, it will be very easy for everyone to do their job, and it will make it easier for women who want to work and take care of their own family at home. I think that both men and women have the same role in taking care of the house, but it would be even better if women took care of the house than men.

Yes, due to the advances of modern technology over the years, it has become easier for people to do their jobs. It doesn’t just make things easier for women alone going into entrepreneurship. As well as it could also make things easier for anyone and not just women who wants to work and manage the home.
You’re right, men and women has a role in taking care of the family. In some cases, husbands manage the household a lot better than their wives and don’t mind doing it. For me, whoever wants the job of staying home and can efficiently handle it, gets it.
Maybe only some of the men like to do their work at home and even if there are men who do it, of course it will be very few, but very rarely do I see men doing their job at home and taking care of their own home, of course this will be very boring for men. I think there are very few men who want to take care of the house and work in their home compared to women.
Alright, it's 2023 people let's stop having stereotypes. These days it doesn't matter what your gender is if you have responsibilities, may it be at home or at work, you do it. Work doesn't have to have a gender, alright? There's no need to compare and hold men into this toxic masculinity mindset. Men can do household just as well as women and women can have jobs like men. These days where the economy is struggling and unstable gender should not matter in taking roles.
1615  Economy / Economics / Re: No choice but to use the unavoidable middle man, the exchange companies. on: August 11, 2023, 03:11:48 AM
If we could only trust someone we don't see, then it's good to transact with them. But the reality is that there are many bad people out there. So if ever there's an opportunity to do bad things, they will usually do it especially when we talk about money. That's why transactions with no middleman is not a guarantee, there are lots of cases of hacking in P2P since you can't determine the identity of the person you are trading with. Since we are talking about crypto and we don't know who's really the person we are trading with, service fee of an intermediary is not a waste.

I agree, it is better to pay someone to guarantee safety rather than lose all of that money by getting scammed. I mean what's a small rate compared to the whole sum you are hoping to use for the transaction? Personally, I don't mind paying the rate of a middleman that will secure my transaction, I view it as a service fee for every transaction I do.
1616  Economy / Economics / Re: Would You Consider Adding Bitcoin to Your Retirement Savings on: August 11, 2023, 02:39:06 AM
Why not? It’s proven to be a profitable long-term investment so I believe it can be worth our money and time especially if its price will keep breaking a new all time high which means our investment will turn out to be 10x or 20x profitable too. However, we should always stick to the basic rule when investing, always invest money that you can only afford to lose. Bitcoin is a profitable asset, but we can’t guarantee if it’s still be the same 10 or 20 years from now so its safe to invest with caution.

You are right, don't be blindly thinking that your money will grow about 10x and you'll go all in, in which we know that the risk of losing it is high, so it's still preferred that some of your retirement savings go to Bitcoin and others are in the bank, no matter how much they depreciate in value, so that you can still have a fallback just in case. Also, it is better to make sure your security is good, mostly when you hold Bitcoin, and be up-to date on the news on Bitcoin, as for sure there are new innovations throughout that time.

This is true, and a safe and secure way to ensure that there is money to be saved in both aspects. It will be hard and too risky if we only rely on Bitcoin for our retirement savings as the growth of the profit is not guaranteed, same goes with the bank as banks can always file for bankruptcy if things go for the worst. Hence, having both can increase the guarantee that you will have savings.
1617  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs cryptocurrencies vs business on: August 11, 2023, 02:10:56 AM
I'm not sure what the currency is regarding your post but let's assume it's my local currency, then half a million wouldn't be that much so I have to be smart about it. Regarding the options, of course, it will be ideal to have three of those at once, two at best to ensure that there is guaranteed profit in a way. However, (again) half a million is not much in my country so it is not ideal to have three investments so I can only choose one, then in this case I am choosing real estate. Real estate guarantees profit and is stable with rental or even Airbnb business while Cryptocurrencies and having a business can be too much of risk as I can only work around my half a million.
1618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Wagering - share your opinion on: August 10, 2023, 11:55:39 PM
I think wagering is just a subtle way for casinos to get back the money that they pay out in rewards. People never wager with 3rd party Slots because the RTP will quickly clean out their balance... but the in-house games with the good RTP are similar to slow boiling a frog in a pot.

Take DICE on Stake.com as an example ... Put it on a 1.0102x Multiplier with a Roll Over of 2 that will give you a Win Chance of 98% .... and then spin say 10 000 x $0.30 bets. (Enable Live Stats and see how slowly it will drain your balance) ......that is wagering and you are slowly boiling like a frog.  Roll Eyes
This is one of the strategies that was recommended to me if I want to get to VIP status as fast as I can. But hell no, I'd rather let the RTP decide how it will bring me back to my initial balance while I am pursuing the jackpot prize.
I guess those who had been thinking they will get a lot of money in their VIP ranks totally rushed things out and now those same people are recommending the same. But there are good high-ranking guys that will tell you not to do it and just enjoy the game as much as possible not rush things out because we will get there somehow although it will take time.
With how much they spent wagering is not enough to ROI from all the VIP bonuses and features. So, might as well just keep on pursuing the jackpot while my wagering amount is climbing.

If it were me I'd take the slow grind with small bets than rushing things out to get the bonus but that's just me. I want to get the most experience out of the money that I deposit on the casino instead of getting the bonuses or the tiers, hence why I don't get any rankings of some sort on the casinos that I play on.

I might try to chase bonuses soon, though right now, I know that it will eat a lot of my time.
1619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Peer pressure as a substantial gambling catalyst. on: August 10, 2023, 11:32:37 PM
Peer pressure has a role to play where morals or self discipline is lacking in substantial amount. I would like to think that if one likes to be in the midst of a lot of persons, they might sooner than necessary bend to the tune or habits of the group or join to have a group habit.

For me though, it simply is for fact that a gambler became a gambler out of choice or was booed into it. Perhaps the thought had been lingering, unlike any other indulgence for pleasure, one or two gambling games would have been okay, but it wasn't.

Depends on the person entirely. I've known a lot of people who have been groomed into gambling but never dared touch it. For them, it's just another waste of their money, and they'd rather take up an expensive hobby than to gamble their money. I understand their reasoning into not gambling, and no matter how much that person's group coerce him into gambling, they'd rather not do it because it doesn't really benefit them at all.
1620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Signs that indicate you are not addicted to gambling on: August 10, 2023, 10:50:55 PM
First sign is to have the betting apps on your phone, some of us see it as a means of survive in this poor economy, But its really eaten up the little savings we have already. Its very difficult to get away from gambling, its only God that can save one from this addict.
Some are just lucky to be winning everyday, and they never see any evil in it, but those that lose everyday called it evil, that's the problem of gamble.

Even if the mobile application of the gambling was their in your mobile, the self control is the most important one.Until your finger touch the application, the application will not open.Like wise until you play, the game was not played. Some gambling addict face all the small savings into gambling by finding the big win.But they should play the gambling with the time limit, then he will not get addicted.People with good gambling experience will do gambling game on Sunday and from Monday he start to work.So this time limit allow them to control his mind from the addiction is my opinion.

Sometimes, the thought of depositing money and losing it in a gambling platform pains me. I guess that's one of my strong points since I recognize that the loss of any amount of money is something that I really cannot stomach. I'm thankful that even if you give me extra money and a very accessible gambling platform, I'd choose to keep the money and spend it on other things or rather save it. Self-control is something that not a lot of gambler have, but once you have employed it, it's hard to get off of it.
