1601  Economy / Economics / Re: Monthly average USD/bitcoin price & trend on: November 02, 2013, 09:05:31 AM
I might have it correct now?

or not?

(I used "0" for <months since Jan 2009> for January 2009, btw. should I use "1")

the regression might look off because remember, he derived it from monthly averages

or not?

It's correct for what I asked Smiley much appreciated molecular!
1603  Economy / Economics / Re: Monthly average USD/bitcoin price & trend on: November 02, 2013, 08:47:24 AM
or -2.8 + 5.2/(57(mos_since_jan_2009))

Is "57" a function or should there be a "*" behind it.

If the latter then no, that can't be it since that monotonically decreasing and always < "-2.8 + 5.2"

isn't it on a log scale

what about

-2.8 + (5.2/57)(mos since jan 2009)

To anyone, if we could get a graph over actual prices, and then an extension of the regression line past where we are today into say, 2014, I'd greatly appreciate that Smiley

This? :

http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#czsg2009-09-30zeg2019-04-30ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zl

Change the custom time as you prefer

with the graph of this
-2.8 + 5.2/57(number_of_months_since_Jan_2009).

@molecular Rants are cool.  Whatever releases your stress.  But you seem to have two conflicting emotions.  First you want things to be fair but if that's true then smarter more capable people will of course be more wealthy.  Remember half the population has below average intelligence.  But then you want some peaceful revolution that takes wealth away from current holders and redistributes it to the people?  Bitcoin isn't magic.  Idiots using bitcoin will still be idiots and likely end up broke given a long enough time frame.  Given the two choices I'll take fair over socialism any day and twice on Sunday.

yeah but under this new bitcoin society without welfare states and whatnot  the cost of being stupid is greater => long run net society benefit

So what do you guys think: is the idea of a "peaceful revolution and shift of power back to the people through use of sound money" viable? What needs to be done to make it possible?

I'm willing to give agorism a shot. Sounds logical enough to me.

My girlfriend often asks me about my recent obsession with money/bitcoin and why I do this (she despises money and the rich and I can understand that to an extent). Of course I admit that part of my obsession is that I control quite a few bitcoins. In fact I've never been as wealthy as I am now through bitcoin. But the more fundamental reason is that I want a better, more just and freer world for all people. What good is it to be rich in a poor world? This truly is the main reason for my involvement here... should bitcoin fail and be replaced by some altcoin I own 0 of, I would still be pro cryptocurrency just as much as I am now. I just want to live in a world that at least makes it possible for people to live a good life.

And this is why we're here Smiley
1612  Economy / Speculation / Re: No capitulation on: November 02, 2013, 06:56:41 AM
No capitulation? What about June?

Only the problems at MtGox kept the price over $60.

only the problems at mgox triggered the collapse from 266

Sigh, there was so much time to buy cheap coins.

still is*
1615  Economy / Speculation / Re: No capitulation on: November 02, 2013, 06:05:56 AM
I used to be a bear.

However, I got beaten.

I remain careful and accept the loss but I have also lost the hope of buying them back.

As every day ticks, more and more people join and own, and the lower chances become for a serious correction.

I used to think $60 was in the cards, but then Silk Road clampdown went down to only $85 and shut up to the current $200.

Too much money chasing the coins. And it will - likely - only get worse.

I forgot about $60, even $90, if $120 would be touched I would be surprised. $150 is still possible.

Just my thoughts.

I think your mistake was to pick a bottom.  You should buy on the way down and then the rest in the bottom quarter (say) of the bounce back up because you can never be sure that your chosen bottom is THE bottom.  If you sold some in April at 230 (say) and then bought back at 190, 150, 100, 75, 67 and then 80, was that 190 buy really bad?

What could be wrong with getting back into your BTC position with an extra 40 bucks per coin left over!  Seems to me like you made a good trade, assuming you believe in the fundamentals.

Of course the other buys were better, but they would not have existed if the bounce had happened at 180...

I have always bought on the way down, but, I have also always sold on the way up, and that has been my undoing.

the trend is your friend Smiley
1616  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 01, 2013, 07:24:48 PM
Anyway why TMSC doesn't produce the substrate for their own chips? It's something that i can't understand.

Probably one at HF knew a guy who could provide it some cents cheaper. I smell the "smart management guys recommendations"-stench all over the place.

this is like Challenger all over again :p
1617  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 01, 2013, 03:37:21 PM
I'm gonna have to go talk to the consumer protection lawyer down the street on Monday from the looks of this, this is totally absurd.
1618  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why I think a major and prolonged crash could be beneficial on: November 01, 2013, 03:33:14 PM
We just had a crash dude, like four months ago. What would this accomplish for the psyche? We already are convinced it will eventually go over 266. That will happen before another "bubble" "collapses"

It lasted for a few months dude. I said years. What if we would still be in the 70es now? Would you feel the same optimism?

People that couldn't buy in the 70s before would feel the same optimism.

If it was still a fiat dominated world I would use BTC like I do today as a savings account  and just withdraw cash when I need it. Bucket in, trickle out Smiley

Edit: and once you're that wealthy you don't need to cash out Wink
