1621  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Official CaVirtex.com Thread on: September 18, 2013, 04:47:37 PM
Is it possible to transfer CAD funds between two cavirtex accounts? I have some CAD that I'd like to withdraw, but I don't want to pay the $6 withdraw fee. Instead, I was planning to find a local buyer to trade cavirtex CAD for in-hand cash.

1624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What the heck is wrong with BTC on: September 17, 2013, 04:02:19 PM
The input is unconfirmed.

This is the real culprit: https://blockchain.info/tx/3587656d648934405ae587c6f9ef985729c4bf66cca96eea64ffccd62db4f7cc

You're trying to spend the .185BTC which came out of that no-fee transaction and will need to wait until it's confirmed or it drops out of queue.

Solution: Quit being unwittingly cheap.

I expect that when I send money using the top menu entry to do so, the program is smart enough to give me at least the possibility to add a fee, which it didn't.

But you were using blockchain.info, a third party web client. If you have comments for that site, please contact that site's owner
1625  Other / Meta / Re: "Watching" posts, no longer needed can we kill them? on: September 17, 2013, 01:56:12 PM
That would open a can of worms. Your regex as-is will catch too few posts (right?) and if it's made broader then it's very easy for it to trigger on posts like "Hey thanks for the information, I'll be watching that closely" and such. Sure it's a near useless post but his author is going to be informed about a Watchlist feature that has nothing to do with what he was talking about.
what about categorizing posts like these as spam? Moderators would delete them on sight and send the author a polite message explaining the watch feature.
1626  Other / Off-topic / Re: 20113-09-16: FBI Admits It Controlled Tor Servers Behind Mass Malware Attack on: September 16, 2013, 11:27:53 PM
Quote
The heart of the malicious Javascript was a tiny Windows executable hidden in a variable named “Magneto.” A traditional virus would use that executable to download and install a full-featured backdoor, so the hacker could come in later and steal passwords, enlist the computer in a DDoS botnet, and generally do all the other nasty things that happen to a hacked Windows box.

Bold my emphasis. The malware requires Microsoft Windows in order to work. Still it would be a good idea for GNU / Linux users to not install Wine as an extra precaution.
No, their code was targeted towards the windows platform. It doesn't mean windows is less secure, or their was some conspiracy on the part of microsoft. They targeted windows because it's the largest platform.
1627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SCAMMED 10 BTC.. PLEASE HELP!! on: September 16, 2013, 02:26:31 PM
I'm guessing:

a) your computer is compromised
or
b) blockchain.info/SwC was compromised

Could you ask the owner of seals with clubs for login logs for your account?

What do you think about that:

what do you think about giving a concise summary of the video?

Don't worry, the NSA has backups.

I'm sure they'll hand those over if you ask nicely.
we can get a 90% redacted version if we file a FOIA request Tongue

Don't worry, the NSA has backups.
archive.org has "backups" as well, as do every major search engine.

The entire blockchain torrent is bigger than the default available space on VMware.

edit your post instead of posting a constant stream of updates.

bug reports should be reported here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues

also, I was not able to replicate the issue with 0.8.5 (unecrypted wallet used)
1635  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: And the next code line is: ? on: September 13, 2013, 06:55:32 PM
I suppose you say the same thing about Sanskrit sutras.  Angry
this is a forum, not a religious scripture

Your attitude is arrogant and offensive, although I don't want to take it personally.
please get a better argument rather than appealing to tone

I really don't think you are the master of the universe and know what is the best for everybody in the community. Besides, there are not just developers in this community, in case you don't know.
I never claimed I was "the master of the universe and know what is the best for everybody in the community". Instead of strawmaning, how about you actually refute some of my arguments?
1636  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: And the next code line is: ? on: September 13, 2013, 05:26:54 PM
this is a pointless thread, reminiscent of the "count to 2100000 with pictures" thread. no sane software developer will comment every single line. tell me, what is the purpose of posts like these?
BN_clear_free(this);   // sets the memory for the bignumber to all zeroes and frees the memory, thereby saving many trees and dolphins in the process.
Block #257771 => Line 9436

nPrice = nPriceIn;
Block #257761 => Line 7916

template<typename K, typename T>
anyone anyone who took a high school course in programming will know what they mean.

if you want to comment every line, fine. do it on the source file themselves and upload it to a github repo or your own site. don't spam the forums in a vain attempt to boost your post count.

Moving this to alternate crypto currency because it's about scrypt mining.
1638  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: accessing an old, cold storage wallet.dat on: September 12, 2013, 10:09:22 PM
just find a secure/trusted workstation, install bitcoin, and send the coins to the new address

alternately, tinfoil hat level security:
If you are really concerned about the security though you should make the transaction on an offline computer.

Did you pay with bitcoins? Please don't tell me you paid with bitcoins without escrow.

Hi Grue,

How would I have done it using an escrow?

Please advise which sites do this.

Thanks
