HR,

Good to hear some analysis around this. What types of recommendations do you have for marketing outside the forums and communities? What can we do mainstream to get DGB on the map?

YC

I've mentioned a campaign to promote the purchase of DGB with fiat currencies before on this thread: Buy 10 get 1 free for the purchase of DGB with fiat, with a 100,000 min. DGB purchase and a 1 million cap. 24hralttrade has contacted LiteBit.eu and LitePaid and got what I consider to be a very favorable response. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=408268.msg9133882#msg9133882

The social network tipping has proven to be interesting, and I've suggested we combine that with a "register and post" on www.DigiByteTalk.com promotion.

But my favorite idea right now, beyond what we're already doing and what's already in the works, is targeting gamers. Kayahoga got me going on that one, and I can't seem to get it out of my mind: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=408268.msg7962691;topicseen#msg7962691 That's a huge 'market' of potential users who are already 'set up' and only need the miner and BAT file to get going.

How do we effectively reach them?

This coin seems to be doing all the right things - why does the price keep dropping?

Is it simply the massive inflation rate?  If so, are the devs planning to slow that down to give the price a chance to rise?

Cheers!

Vlad,

We have been having internal discussions about this. Simply put we doubled the production of coins at block 145k.

DigiByte was on track to produce all of its coins over a 30 + years. Now it will happen in about 15 years. We are potentially thinking of a hard fork next spring that will cut new coin production in half.

What is the communities take on this?

I sometimes wonder about our ability to see beyond the ends of our noses when I hear people talking about cryptocurrency “inflation”. Okay, I get the point when comparing with other cryptos, but isn’t that a bit shortsighted?

With developed nations’ total aggregate money supply being somewhere between 50 and 75 trillion USD equivalent, wouldn’t it be reasonable to expect a large enough demand in cryptocurrencies to support at least a 5 trillion of USD equivalent money supply in cryptocurrencies?

If we had a 5 trillion total USD equivalent of cryptocurrency money supply, and assigned a generous total of 50 cryptocurrency survivors to our equation, each of the 50 survivors would have a proportionate 100 billion USD equivalent money supply, an amount which in each individual case would hardly even begin to compete with the 50-75 trillion of total fiat supply and ITS inflation!

In the case of BTC, a 100 billion USD total capitalization would equate to a price of $4,761.90 USD.

MEC would be valued at $2,380.96, LTC at $1,190.48, HBN at $833.34, DGC at $500, QRK at $404.86, EAC at $7.41, DGB at $4.77, and DOGE at $1.00, for example.

While we could argue all day long about whether or not Hobonickels will be one of the eventual survivors, what I’m sure we can all agree on is that there will be someone who takes the place of Hobonickels if it doesn’t survive, and if not (let’s say there are only 30 eventual survivors, or 20, or 10), then the eventual total money supply would be even smaller that the original 5 trillion conservative figure.

The key question that I think one has to ask is if you think BTC could possibly trade in the $5,000 dollar range, and then, depending on how you view that, you could move on towards analyzing other coins like MEC (could that coin really survive much less trade at $2,380.96?), or EAC (currently trading between 2 and 3 satoshi – what’s the story there? already ruled out as a potential survivor?), or DGB.

If cryptocurrencies ever do claim their place in the sun, I think a modest 7.5 - 10% or so of developed economies’ real aggregate M2 money supply is a reasonable figure with which to begin eventual baseline valuations.

And don’t forget that the fiats will continue with rampant inflation and that figure of 7.5 - 10% or so will also adjust upwards accordingly as those fiats continue to devalue.

I have to bite my tongue in order not to laugh when I hear people using the inflation word with regards to cryptocurrencies, when in fact it doesn’t even begin to compare with the fiat equivalents, that we should really be comparing with.

And having done that, we’d be able to move on to the next step and ask:

- Why is DOGE valued around 30 times more then EAC when it has more than 7 times the eventual money supply of EAC?
or
- Why is BTC valued around 1 million times more than CGB when it has 21 times the eventual money supply of CGB?

The answer to those questions is what should lead to what I consider to be priority number 1 for DGB at this time. The technical aspects are a done deal, and what we need to do now is gain mass acceptance, starting with the widest possible distributed initial user base as possible. We have a finished product for all intents and purposes (of course, there will be updates, but the core product is not going to change), and it’s time to start marketing and selling it.

Has everyone been telling everybody you know about how profitable it is to mine DGB?

Are there any gamers here with logins to gaming forums? I'd be happy to help with a PR piece for DGB that could be posted in that space. Why not make some extra income when you're not playing and your machine is running idle?

It's the absolute worst, least intuitive, clumsiest web interface I have ever seen (since the late 90's anyway).

The hoops you have to jump through are just unbelievable.

And don't clear you cookie cache, or you'll have to reset your password again.

After resetting my password once again, I still couldn't log in. I kept getting a "you need to reset your password" error. When trying to reset my password again, I get this error (note that with no e-mail address BTW):

If they were doing stand-up comedy, this would be funny.

Worse than a bunch of rookies could do.

Bittrex Error
Code:
Warning: The network does not appear to fully agree! Some miners appear to be experiencing issues"

So, what do you think? Are we going to come to the conclusion in the end that this is normal and desirable program behavior that gives us early warning alerts as to the possibility of a fork (a just in case type of thing, even if it isn't even remotely likely at all) and we just need to be patient, automatically cancel payments for a couple of minutes, and then move on? That's a lot better than the alternative that the coding prevents against, isn't it?

And if BTC still hasn't come up with an improved, even better, whiter, faster, bigger, beyond all worldly expectations that suspend the basic laws of physics . . .

I'd be requesting all kinds of data from Bittrex, and doing my best not to let them distract me too much from all the more important things I have on my agenda.  Wink

Hey guys, the Bittrex issue is a Bittrex issue. It is an isolated error and it also seems to be intermittent. Let's step back and be rational about this. Does anyone not know just how difficult it is to troubleshoot an intermittent error? Have we forgotten about that? Or are we just jumping to the gun because it's Bittrex?

What's more is that it is an isolated issue that only Bittrex is reporting. That is to say, not only is it intermittent, but it's isolated, and it might even be an environmental issue for all we know!

I'll add insult to injury here: do we not know how hard it is to do third party troubleshooting for someone else? With remote desktop, telephone support, instant messaging?

Any other end user with similar issues with anyone else's software, from Microsoft to Apple, would have been instructed on how to troubleshoot environmental, intermittent and isolated issues, and if they weren't able to do it on their own, or hire someone to do it, and they kept being a pest, they would have been subtly encouraged to move to a competitor's product.

IMO, it is ludicrous to blame DigiByte for one user's environmental, intermittent and isolated issues, even if it is a major exchange.

It's simple, it's only happening to Bittex, and the only info they have provided is one little error message (that I am aware of). No data logs, no error logs, nothing.

And some particular people are ready to eat DigiByte alive for that? When it should be the exact opposite? It makes me wonder.

-------------------------------o-------------------------------

With regards to acting faster and doing more work, it's not just price, it's everything related to Digibyte. DigiByte has said that price is not a driving force behind decision making, and I, for one, agree with that policy. However, it's not price that is being referred to here. Once again I quote halinyo, but this time something more specific that goes to the heart of the matter with my emphasis added:

But something is obvious that DGB is not where it should be, cannot be worse...... Needs more marketing..... youtube and twitter, facebook accounts should be used to do some marketing... making professional videos, explaining even very basic things of DGB and crypto will be great contribution....

DGB deserves better... I dont know what DigiByte, Jared is planning in the near future... but we have to do more work and should act faster than we have done previously... coz crypto is moving very fast and we have to adopt and develop stuff that will help/contribute to the crypto world...

There are many alternative crypto-currencies out there and crypto is very competitive... Lots of competitors...  we have to act faster so that people can check DGB at the very first step.... That is a strategy to take people's attention....

Holy smokes Batman, we've got our algo change, we've got DGB back on the profitability map, and with DGB now back in the spotlight, are we going to let it die on stage because no-one bothered to promote it?

Technically, we're set, for the foreseeable future. Promotion is what is needed now, and not to get price up, but to establish a widely distributed user base and make DigiByte a household term.

Priority #1: We've got to get the word out!

1669  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 08, 2014, 09:11:41 PM

This is a draft proposal.

Buy 10 and get 1 free!

That's right, for a limited time only, new investors
who purchase DGB with fiat will receive 1 additional DGB for every 10 purchased.

For example, if you buy 100,000 DGB, you'll get another 10,000 free. Now that's not bad!

Minimum purchase 100,000 DGB; maximum purchasable amount of 1,000,000 DGB per investor.
Offer good until the 10,000,000 "free" DGB account is depleted.

100,000 DGB for every 1 million DGB purchased with fiat (for the first 100 investors to take advantage of the promotion). This would amount to a 10% giveaway, or around $9 USD at current prices. (Once DGB is at 100 satoshi, that would translate into around $45 USD.)

How can this be done? By working directly with the exchanges that accept fiat. In the States that would be Cryptsy, and in Europe that would be LiteBit. Anyone buying DGB with fiat would qualify.

The promotion account could be funded with around $900 USD at current prices (for 10 million DGB) and the promotion would be good for 100 million of newly purchased DGB with fiat, which would go a long ways towards helping price appreciation as well!

DigiByte, have you guys got $900 USD to fund this? And the time and desire to put it together? I can guarantee that you'd get a lot of press coverage (that's free advertising) as a result - DGB would be on every crypto blog and from there to every forum by word of mouth.

What do you say?

About this plan,
i contacted to litebit/litepaid and asked if its possible to do it and this is there answer.

Yes,
But they will give us the Digibyte adresses and the amount that somebody bought.
And then we need to send the Digibytes to the buyer.

With the B2B in brussels, europe, this would be a good timing and Litepaid/litebit would be awesome to work with and it's easy to handle.

Is it possible to do it in this "short" timeframe?
Any suggestions on rules to follow, max amount of buy, max amount of Digibytes for discount etc. etc.

Oh, I like that! Exactly as I had hoped it would be. Fantastic! Thanks so much for taking the initiative!

Digibyte market cap is very low as $ 121,176 ..... I think this should jump at least the 10 times for normal levels for a serious business... The current levels of REDD coin may be the final levels of DGB when all DGB coins are mined...... Check from coinmarketcap.com....
ReddCoin,   $ 1,328,858 CAP,   0.00000014 BTC per REDD,   27,355,037,508 total RDD mined to today.

The price or/and amount of coins should be balanced at 1 million dollars market cap ? I dont know that will ever happen...

I couldn't agree more, especially with the need to do more work and acting faster. That's an absolute must and I would think should be priority #1 right now.

BTW, my calculations say that DGB needs to get to a 100 billion - with a "b" - market cap someday if it's really going to be a contender, but that's for another day (and I promise I will post in detail on that sometime when I get the chance). Wink

digibyte don't stay on mintpal:(

Go figure. They had nice volume with DGB and were certainly making money on those commissions.

MYR is gone too, and I had a balance that is no longer showing - this has got to be wrong. How can you leave the likes of HIRO, and dump coins like DGB?

No sell orders, and no buy orders anywhere? A "We do not have enough data to display this chart at the moment" error even with LTC? These guys can't be serious. What was supposed to be a 24 hour migration that took almost a week, and they re-open shop with this?

I think they've seriously shot themselves in the foot.

Hmm, I think there's a problem with "any time you like" promotions: the sense of urgency forces people to rush to the link, most people have a very short memory, if they don't come back within one day they don't come back at all, almost all promotions in the world rush people to come ASAP lest they lose the incredible occasion, even if many of them just actually going to renew that very same offer the day after (note, this trick is kinda rough, I think they can get off with it because they have a lot of money to put in ads, and people keep forgetting things 'cause they don't care, see car sales, you don't buy a car every month, so the trick works, sure not so with dgb).

Also, by the way, we'd need some way to avoid multiple subscriptions: 1k digibytes start becoming a serious sum, with 500 subscriptions you actually make up for a day of work sort of, maybe someone with an actual job won't bother, but surely this is attractive enough for the kiddo who wants some pocket money.

I think limited, over-the-weekend events offer the best low budget results here.

Of course there's more that can be done other than just giveaways, the giveaway is really simple, as you could see you just need some 2 dollars and people come, but with some organization and a little media coverage we can do a  lot of other stuff, especially if it happens at the same time as the  launch of some new dgb tech.

Points well taken, and I agree that an ASAP registration would be best. With regards to finding a way to avoid multiple subscriptions, I think that it is basically impossible to tell if a new address is tied to a new install or not, and that would seriously put into question this type of promo. Perhaps the best we could do would be to link the second giveaway to registering at DigiByteTalk and posting the same address used on the social network giveaway (this of course doesn't eliminate the possibility of someone using multiple reddit nicks and then registering several times on DigiByteTalk, but it does make things a bit more difficult since they would also have to create various e-mail accounts, and the time and trouble certainly wouldn't be worth it, but someone still might be up to it). And I also agree with you on your last point, where one idea I still think is interesting is linking a giveaway to the purchase of DGB with fiat.

Again, thanks for your efforts and contributions. I'm sure I can speak for most when saying they're much appreciated.

1673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ MultiAlgo v3.0.1 officially released! Mandatory Update! on: October 05, 2014, 04:46:02 PM

Okay, here's another one from yours truly.  Wink

I like the idea to giveaway some free DGB for installing the wallet. That's really neat, and I'm sure there are very good ways to confirm the new install.

I also like the idea of including a random "super-tip" (let's say that if new installs would get 1000 DGB, then the random "super-tip" would be like 10,000 every once in a while, for example).

Problems: reddit forum limitations and/or restrictions and BitCoinTalk giveaway thread prohibition.

So, these are really not places that are adequately suited to host this kind of ongoing event (and I would make it ongoing).

So, here it is: the actual giveaway could be done on DigiByte's own forum ( http://digibytetalk.com/ ) giving new users incentive to register for the first time and post their new wallet install info in order to get their free coins, and giveaway promotions like this weekend's would serve to steer people to the DigiByteTalk forum where they would register and then post.

Of course, anyone from the DigiByte community could tip (perhaps getting contributors here to register and post over there as well), and if someone wanted to throw out a random 100,000 or so, just for the hell of it (from time to time), that would seriously liven things up as well.

Maybe we might even begin to see the start of a serious eventual migration . . . that will come sooner or later in any event.

Very interesting idea. I'm not sure a hard verification  of the wallet install is needed: most people seem unaware that they can use an online wallet. I didn't realize how much reddit was limited until I did this event, however I still think digibyte presence on reddit is too low, good or bad it's still the one most influental social network for coins, besides twitter perhaps (but twitter favors low-engagement activities while reddit favors staying).

On this note @digibyte many users noted they can't download the android wallet, and the link brings them back to the main page, this is a pretty big issue.

About how this giveaway turned out (so far) and the lessons for the future:

Firstly it didn't attract as many users as I though, and it's a good thing: the fact there's a lot of text at the start of the giveaway and the rules of the giveaway are somewhere in the middle forced people to actually read, most of those who just wanted to say hi and get tipped without doing anything went away. More than a half of the participants went trough the trouble of getting a digibyte address, and most installed the client (some tried to install the android wallet,, but see above...).

In this way the extra complication of adding the address and going to another thread forced people to stay a bit more. Mind: we could use a more complicate giveaway to tip more the few more engaged users, or a simpler giveaway to get more people to view the initiative, or a multiple initiative (eg 10 dgb on dogecoin 100 on digibyte thread and 1000 on digibyte forum).

Afterall visibility vs engagement is not an easy balance to strike, you must never forget either when you plan a PR initiative. A multiple difficulty approach favors more engagement actually, as the same user may come to all giveaways, and therefore spend some 10-30 minutes on digibyte. (Note that the complication of changing threads was intentional, I planned that much, although the address escomotage was only devised at game open and turned out pretty nice)

8 new users subscribed to digibyte during the giveaway meaning at least some 1-3rd are actually committed to keep an eye on dgb.

On another note: the dogecoin community is not new to tippings, and is very friendly towards digibyte, doing the same initiative with other coins, or with non-cryptocurrency users may be a lot more difficult.

At the end I chose not to advertise this event too much so as not to get entangled in case it turned out bad, since all went well we can make a louder and more concerted event next time Cheesy.

Excellent job! Well done!

As far as the different types of initiatives go, why not a couple of simultaneous ongoing efforts? Maybe the a periodic tipping similar to today's that's linked to a wallet install, with a tip like you were using today, and then an "any time you like" follow-up tip - that's a bit larger - for going over to DigiByteTalk, registering, and posting the same address with a link to their original reddit tip in order to get that second, larger, more succulent tip? That's just idea, but when thinking about what you were saying about the visibility-engagement balance, that might be an interesting combination.

I don't understand. Cannot you just do a tipping Extravaganza like myr +/u/meat_body_soul?
What reddit forum limitation are you talking about?

Please read this weekend's tipping threads, and the related posts here in this thread, for the answer to your question.

And beyond those technical limitations, if you were to imitate meat_body_soul you'd really be losing out on about 90% of this type of promo's real potential, which we have seemingly stumbled upon in happen chance manner (as is often the case . . . like I said a couple of days ago, every cloud has its silver lining). Everything we do is a learning experience, and if we learn new tricks, why not embrace them? Even if they're the result of serendipity. Why limit ourselves? Wouldn't this be a great way to not only promote DigiByte without technical and policy limitations, but to also boost the DigiByteTalk forum at the same time?

The digibyte dogecoin tipping event has started http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/2ia3dc/first_digibytedogecoin_friendship_giveaway/ (finally reddit let me post Cheesy) anybody who wishes to partecipate, by both commenting or tipping, is welcome!

Like they say, every cloud has a silver lining: I really like how you ended up linking the tipping to a direct DGB address (and wallet install if necessary).

Saw how someone didn't even know who DigiByte was and asked if the wallet install was safe! Amazing!

Hope you have a good day with it and good luck.

P.S. You might post a link to the OP as well. Wink

I contacted https://coingateway.net to add Digibyte for there payment platform.

"CoinGateway acts as a bridge to enable you to purchase merchandise from retailers who accept only Bitcoin, with our range of supported alternate coins! Choose the coin you would like to spend, then simply enter the recipients Bitcoin address and desired amount and click "Pay Now". We also support a multi Crypto exchange platform where you can cross trade any coin listed in."

The looked at Digibyte and willing to add it but there is a fee to pay.

"Our requirement list is very simple, we require a coin to be listed at a reputable exchange e.g. Cryptsy, Bittrex, (Mintpal is Recommended), have a reasonable amount of volume and have a good user base. Finally we require a listing fee between 2 - 5 BTC (Low Risk - Medium Risk - High Risk) depending on the requirements."

After i contacted them they told me the fee to add Digibyte is 2 BTC.

@Digibyte,  I think this will help getting Digibyte to the mainstream. I like it, what do you guys think about it? and community?

Is there any funds to support this?

I can't find any information about the company or their location (fiat to crypto laws differ from country to country, etc.) and the only thing I can deduce is that they are in the U.K. (from the international phone number country code).

@HR Hello. I am fine, thanks. Married now and back from honeymoon Cheesy

I still need to add coins that were requested + update stats sites of some coins. Btw I read somewhere that Digi diff retarget is still pain in the ass, hope its fixed after all.

Congratulations and welcome back! (even if this is a bit belated)

Looks like you've got DigiByte showing up pretty accurately - I've been checking the website from time to time and it's been looking good to me.

Best wishes for many years of happy marriage . . . now that the honeymoon is over.   Cheesy

Very interesting stuff about putting your ID on your DGB. I'm all ears. But what about those who don't do the same? And the thief who hacks your wallet and steals your DGB? We still wouldn't have a 'paper trail' to follow those funds. We don't have that kind of problem with money in our savings accounts, certificates of deposit, stocks, bonds and other financial instruments. A digital currency needs to provide the same guarantees if it truly wants to gain "alternative" status.

When the winners finally progress beyond virtual play money status and really turn into viable alternatives, the IRS will make sure this is done. Make no mistake about it. What's more, the winning cryptos will be those that get out in front of the curve, actively seek legal advice on the matter, and even work in conjunction with governmental agencies to find the best way to implement the real accountability that 'legal tender' requires.

And just imagine the technical nightmare that this kind of eventual regulation will create for the unprepared coins, especially for those with sizeable block chains and large distributed networks (another reason to get out in front of the curve early on).

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a complete idiot (of course, I always doubt myself first as the first course of action).

Am I missing something here?

Why would anyone even mention, much less consider, merge mining when DigiByte has the consistently strong and stable network hashrate and profitability that it has got?

Because its stuck and going nowhere. Only a few with big miners are sucking all and dumping. Merge mining will spread it out and may result in less selling. More the distribution better is it for any coin.

Very good point. Thank you.

Exactly. All I am saying is how can we take feedback like this and address it with DGB. Obviously, we are not using anonymity, but any further enhancements could bode well when DGB picks up a lot of commercial adoption.

YC

Yes, the more the transparency the better.

I like to say that my DGB is my DBG and I want my name on it! (A simple DGB address is not enough - I want my name next to my transactions in the block chain!)

As for the price, we have given up on making predictions. We are focusing on building a very solid, reliable base to build the future of DigiByte upon! We have a very good feeling about where DigiByte is headed over the next six months! Smiley

Now you're talking! (That's rhetoric that's not meant to imply you haven't been doing that already.)

If you're doing the right things, the future (hint, price) will take care of itself.
