1661  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Marshals to Auction 50,000 Ross Ulbricht Bitcoins on: February 20, 2015, 03:36:13 PM
What exchange are they going to use?

It is going to be an auction, not sold at an exchange.
1662  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin up or down on: February 19, 2015, 05:20:47 PM
What do you guys think will happen to bitcoin price in upcomming days /week.
First i thought it would go back to 250+Usd
But now with all those exchange hacks it seems to go down again

What do you think ?

If only we knew what would happen, we would be rich.
Very rich.  Smiley
1663  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 bitcoins. Will I be a millionaire by 2020? on: February 19, 2015, 05:20:02 PM
Well that would be pretty cool to have 100 coins equal $1 million retire for the price of 25k!

I am sorry but this is so unlikely  Angry

There are people who bought 100 coins for $200 (or even lesser).
The rise of Bitcoin has been phenomenal - so don't rule it out yet.  Smiley
1664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Great time to buy on: February 19, 2015, 05:19:08 PM
Everytime they say great time to buy, Bitcoin's price drops. I don't think the time has come yet. We need to see sub-150 coins first.

Sub-150? You could end up waiting for ever.  Smiley
1665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where Will Bitcoin Be In 2 Years? on: February 19, 2015, 04:57:41 PM

Lol what? Bitcoin is a crypto-currency so it cant go to the graveyard besides Satoshi might go there pne day but no one knows his religion Roll Eyes
I hope Bitcoins will still be use even after the death of Satoshi

For all you know, Satoshi could remain anonymous till his end. Smiley
1666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin To Pay Your Park Fines on: February 19, 2015, 04:56:34 PM
Hey, this isn't a done deal, yet.

It could be huge since it implies official government support for BTC, but I guess it will take years.

It definitely will be huge.
I wonder how they will tackle the volatility of bitcoin though.
The fines must be denominated in USD, with the equivalent amount in BTC being paid?
Will they utilize the services of a processor like coinbase?
They are planning on using a payment processor similar to coinbase/bitpay however it is a smaller competitor of theirs.

Payments work the same way that payments work when you buy something via coinbase/bitpay, they have the exchange rate set at the time you initiate the transaction and you have a limited amount of time to send a tx to the payment address specified

Yup. Thought as much.
It will be a long time before the government accepts BTC and does not convert it to dollars. Smiley
1667  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin and Porn on: February 19, 2015, 04:55:13 PM
Why are people still paying money for porn in the age of Xhamster, youporn, and redtube?
I think some people have certain fetishes that can only be 'tickled' certain ways, eg they are looking for something very specific.

I do think that bitcoin will likely do wonders for the porn industry as people can buy it without any stigma, plus porn producers will not need to worry about any chargebacks

You also have the concept of crowdfunding - galleries opened to the public once tips cross a certain amount.
That is a novel concept not possible before.
1668  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: From holder to spender.... on: February 19, 2015, 03:33:56 AM
I'll pass. Cant afford being a spender until i have at least 1 btc saved.
I see most people thinking like this. Can't blame them. It would be like spending gold on Kmart.

The problem is that the threshold keeps increasing.
When people have 1 BTC, they think I should save 2.  Smiley

There is nothing wrong with saving, and there is no reason why a person can't save and spend bitcoins at the same time.

True.
Savers contribute a bit to increasing the price.
Spenders contribute a bit to increasing bitcoin adoption.
Nothing wrong with both,

Bitcoin just hasn't started well; it is miles ahead of the rest.  Smiley

BUY, HODL, SLEEP REPEAT

BUY, HODL, SLEEP REPEAT

BUY, HODL, SLEEP REPEAT

Got it down to a science already.   Wink

When do you plan to reap the benefits of your strategy?  Smiley
1673  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin now has a proven track record for creating jobs. on: February 17, 2015, 03:00:13 PM
The gouvernment doesnt care about the little guy, but lets be honest, niether does bitcoin, since all the jobs provided are oportunistic and will last til there is a chance to make a profit.
The good thing bitcoin did, and will continue hopefully in a much larger scale, is taking some of the money from richer individuals since theyre joining later to the train.
cheers

When the rich guys do decide to join the train, they are going to swamp it. Smiley

1675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens in the aftermath of a Bitcoin funded terrorist attack? on: February 17, 2015, 02:50:49 PM
The government will press for more regulation only if it is unable to trace the origin of the funds.
If terrorists have used mixing services, expect a crackdown on them.

My bitcoins will probably still be sitting there, stuck, unused in the same old wallet.

 Sad

You forgot to add "appreciating in value".  Smiley
1678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin ever goes mainstream on: February 17, 2015, 04:27:04 AM
i am not sure about prosperity and equality, but it will bring a more fair system of money.

right now, the richest people are rich because of a scam.

the few in power can print money, or better yet, they can claim money that was never theirs.

Someone goes to a bank, 'borrows' money (money the bank never had in the first place), and the bank expects them to pay it back with interest. So not only do they just create money, they also create interest on the money that never existed. This is stealing value not only from the one who borrowed the money, but from everyone in the world.

In a system where bitcoin or gold/silver is the only currency or at least the major currency, you either mine gold/silver/bitcoin or you provide goods or services to someone who has gold/silver/bitcoin. So scams like the banks are much harder or even almost impossible to pull of (unless we introduce fractional reserve, but that's just a matter of stupidity and not a flaw of bitcoin).

Any currency that is limited in production is much more fair than a currency that is unlimited and can only be created by a few people in power.

I would say it is only a matter of time before there are "Bitcoin banks".
If you go back 50 years in time, there was a gold standard. Didn't stop banks expanding the money supply though.
1679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where Will Bitcoin Be In 2 Years? on: February 16, 2015, 05:22:40 PM
I have my small cache of bitcoins stashed away.
Won't be taking it out for another 2 years at least. Hope all those predictions come true.  Smiley
1680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should The Marijuana Industry Embrace Bitcoin? on: February 16, 2015, 05:21:29 PM
The marijuana industry definitely should. The advantages of using Bitcoin are manifold.

The possible drawback for Bitcoin is that this would perpetuate the belief that bitcoins are primarily used by drug dealers and cyber-criminals.
