1661  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Undervolt antminer s1 [1.19W/GH at the wall] on: July 30, 2014, 12:33:09 PM

I figured it out, for some reason even though I dropped each resistor to 2.8-3k with my pencil they all were somehow even lower down to 2.5k after a few days, i wonder if the lead can heat up and do something weird which would lower the resistance even further?

^that does happen. Its something that happens as the lead 'cures' and becomes less resistive as it does. Same thing hapened pencil-modding bitfury units - after a day or so from modding it would become unstable due to higher voltage.

IME: after ~6hrs the 'curing' is about half-complete, at 12hrs about 75%, at 2days you should be totally stable and not see it stray any further. Its worth keeping this in mind when modding, particularly if the unit becomes less stable after a day or so from when it was modded
1662  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 30, 2014, 03:02:04 AM
any updates to deal with the constant cgminer restarts? I cant get stats to stay active beyond 10 minutes, and my hashrate for 2 rk-boxes is only 780GH at the miner and less than 700Gh at the pool due to 8%+ reject rate

I would love to buy one (or 20) and support AM.  But I have to have dependable equipment.  I can't be babysitting miners to restart.  Certainly sounds like this is a work in progress.
Hope these guys either get this worked out or push out a larger miner with an improved design.  I saw a nice looking one from Friedcat.  Until then my btc goes elsewhere.

absolutely - on the other hand it looks like the btcgarden team has a much better BE200 machine. It runs for over 12hrs stable with error rates around 5-6% (I think this is an issue with the chip similar to with the rockminer)

My pair of rocket boxes has been a headache. Ive had to switch out a replacement control piece due to damage, and multiple times had to mess around with the USB cables to keep all the connections snug.

now its rebooting (or restarting cgminer?) once every 15 minutes or so, and only showing 7 boards (the last is lit red and wired up, but no blue LED action).  Even when working well I only get 750GH or so at the pool. Im not sure if the reboots are a correction atrtempt for the missing board or some other screwup in cgminer.

^got the miner.php working after about 10min of learning how to do some ssh (putty) codes.

im interested in overclocking, is there any particular hazards of going higher than 310? rockminer runs at 320, up to 350 with error rates not much higher

Honestly I'd like to see an 8pin EPS12v to 6pin PCIe adapter. I caniballized an EPS12v extender to attach leads from my R-Boxes but most of the hardware I'm ordering these days uses PCIe connectors, and most of these power supplies have 8pin 12v connector that I can't easily use.

I'm not sure how many others would be in the market for such, but I'd sure like to see it. Count me in for an order of at least two if you make them.

I have an MOQ much higher unfortunately, and cannot see a market for sales of a cable like this in quantities greater than 1-10. In comparison PCIe leads and splitters often sell in much higher quantities to dedicated miners for server gear conversion

my units arrived today, and i've got a problem - it only hashes at 130GH. All 8 boards are connected in series, red wires on the same side for each connector, with the rpi at the 'bottom'

Ive checked the cables for snugness and eveything is wired up properly by the looks of it, but the second board onward do not get warm or produce a hashrate. Is there something im not doing right? each unit has its own EVGA 1300, so there is total overkill of quality 12V power.

otherwise, the kit was quite good - arrived in one piece (though a good kick to the box by a DHL courier would likely cause damage) and is a nice design both for fan placement/volume and minimalism of costs.

would like to see a class 8 or better SD card though since the RPi can go through class 4 cards quickly during reboots or power failures.

is there a way to see the actual cgminer process going on? I doubt it recognises anything other than the first board but id love to check the live log and settings

1) swapped to the newest SD image
2) switched out the cable between boards 1&2

working fine now - not sure if the issue was the wire or the firmware, but it reports hashing and the pool seems to be getting good results - should take a few hours to produce a correct estimate though.

still looking for a way to track the actual cgminer stats to see the error rates and per-board details
1667  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 4 Spotswood Bitfury Aluminum Mining Cases (fully assembled) on: July 29, 2014, 10:49:38 AM
$50 shipped to Toronto?

It would be nice to house my 230Gh unit nicely with a case, but at the same time its been problem free for almost a year Smiley

Would you be ok with $80 shipped?

$80 is too much, sorry. My 230GH unit is only arguably worth $200 and runs fine - to put it in a case would be purely asthetic. can it ship dissassembled for cheaper?

Buying cable in Bulk Quantity is a very wise decision you can save a lot of money by this, but just make sure you are buying from the trusted company because, if the cables come out bad, then it's going to end up very bad for you because of the Bulk quantity that you buy, so it's good to buy in Bulk quantity but always make sure you know the person or company you are dealing with, and all the best of luck for your project.

ROBERT FROM--- http://westcables.com/

I am actually very happy with these cables. Over the past year I have bought about 6-7 different power cable types on ebay looking to power PCIe gear using other methods (ATX connector, molex pairs, extensions split in half to act as leads), and everything is made of feeble little wires that surely are not 18awg as marked.

The cables i get now are thick. if you bend them they will retain the shape, and the internal wire is a true 16awg or the leads and 18awg for the splitters. They have been working like a charm since i got them, powering a wide variety of devices and power draws up to 300W per lead

Hi, if you have 8 in the GUI, good parameters
Checking
rpi always on the right
red line on the wire always on the right too
if all is ok check the boards, begin with the bottom

change gui for one board  and only the first board at the bottom connected
if ok then change gui to 2 boards and connect the second board to the first (only the second, no connection 2 ==> 3)
if ok then change gui to 3 boards and connect the third board to the second, then check
Do that for the 8 boards so you can identify the board which fail

hope that helps

running 0705 firmware - going to try flashing the 0719 today, and testing out boards individually. (Its set for 8 right now since i got the 1.2TH pack)

1671  Economy / Auctions / Re: [auction] casascius 1btc brass year 2012 on: July 27, 2014, 09:04:43 PM
1.8 BTC starting feels high.

Ill bid 1.4 BTC though to get the ball rolling - looks like a very nice condition coin

thanks for the interest, however as reserve has not been met this bid will not be accepted.

1 hour before closing, coin goes back in the safe if not sold.

no worries - just seems like you are not going to get any bids over the minimum

45 cables still available, and about 70 splitters!

This means I need to order a new batch - If you have any requests for me to carry a certain cable or slightly modify the design of the last batch cables please let me know ASAP in this thread or by PM.

orders of MOQ 100 can get custom cables and might be able to ship directly from the manufacturer for a bit of a discount compared to reshipping from me. MOQ 200 is where the magic happens as it enables me to place larger orders and carry bulk pricing into the resales (why i could offer 24" cables this time for the same price as 12" previously)
1673  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin difficulty may actually go down in ~7 days! on: July 27, 2014, 03:10:49 PM
The clue here as to whether there is a new jump in tech in the wings is that when Bitcoin kicked off there was CPU mining, the potential of GPU mining, FPGA and ASIC miners could also possibly be developed. That is all complete now, with advances of late being improvements in power consumption.

The last thing waiting in the wings is the mythical unicorn of hashing, that of the quantum computer. But that is not on the near horizon.

So is this Peak Hardware we are heading to in the next couple of months?

pretty much. over the next 6 months all manufacturers will be using 20nm tech probably, and undervolting for efficiency, to a peak of maybe 0.25w/GH

Ok, from now on we agree to get people to spend Casascius coins like we try to get anyone to use BTC. None of us will set the example, of course, but keep the chatter to a minimum.

Great. See you all in 20 years when we're the only ones with these good coins left.

Hehe, I think the time for that has passed. It is important to realize that it DID happen; but they say, 'a month is years in Bitcoin'. When the coins came out, they were worth about $5 each and many people gave them as casual gifts, gave them to a friend in return for buying lunch, kept them in their wallet with other coins as a curiosity, etc. over half of some coins have been redeemed, mostly being done early on. That time is now passed, and what is left will only increase in value.

In september I bought a roll of coins and some asics. In under a year the coins have doubled in value and the asics have led to a 7TH+ farm.

1678  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: July 27, 2014, 12:06:31 PM
Thought i would post this, since the bitmain chart with 25MHz steps keeps being posted instead, and for fine-tuning 25MHz is far to large of a jump in frequency. 218-243MHz is a good range to focus on, upping speed 6MHz at a time, running for 3-6hrs to check for errors, then increasing again

generated a table to work with, based on the S1/S2 tables:

1679  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: July 27, 2014, 11:44:53 AM
I did remove the covers and remove and re-install the controller to hash board white ribbon cables. I did also try swapping them over to see if chain # 2 appeared but nothing.

Many thanks for the email address for Bitmain I will try that.

I have sent them messages from the account page of the Bitmain site but I don't think this feature is working properly yet as I have still had no response.

grab a multimeter and probe around for voltages across the inductor and any other points that are available (the S1 had a few exposed copper points ideal for meter testing). It is possible that if the first regulator/chips in the chain (left side of pcb) are faulting, the entire chain of chips after it will not recognize or respond correctly. I had that issue with the S1 and there was no 1.1V current in the first 4 chips when there whould have been)

in this case you should see a 0.75V difference across the inductor, or between inductor and GND. if not the regulator may not be outputting any 0.75V power and thats your issue. (like i sid, if the first chips in the chain dont get power the entire chain/PCB wont hash)
1680  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 26, 2014, 04:51:24 PM
I'm  just looking at this thread and bitmain site. And what i can see, quality went down the drain.i mean, quality in regards of delivery on time, process of any refunds, simple information to community.

Now it seems bitmain asking for btc in advance which is basically preorder.
With s1 there was no issues related to delivery of miners. Now im reading people waiting to get their s3 mining week or more!
I was hesitating to order B1,B2,B3 and it seems i didnt lost a lot. as all batches was delayed and now batch 4 and 5 is simple proeorder with no warranty that will be delivered in time frame given.

I dont know whats the issue is but even labeling boxes as miner means issues for end user.
I am fan of bitmain but at this stage whats the point of ordering when their are not in stock?

Price is nice but again waiting time for B5 will kill any profit if any. We looking at least 14 days to receive any miner. What if customs will delay the process? Whats safe quantity to order? I was thinking to order 10. Any ideas how this will look for customs?

no miner is for sale at a better price and faster delivery.

have they slipped from the s-1 yeah  just a bit.  down the drain no.

down the drain would be what knc did from the early jupiter last nov to this years neptune.

Based on all that i can see and read. these s-3's are better then the s-2's  but not quite as good as the s-1's.

By that I mean all aspects of the miner.   I order 4 so far I have 2 hashing 2 on the way.  when they come I will order 2 more.

after those 2 come I will assess my next move.  right now the mining game is very tough.

Maybe i was to harhs to say down the drain. But i compering s1 to s3 situation. And thought maybe they will do same what they done with s1.
I bought abut 20+ s1 with sushi and bitmain and never had any issues.

I still think mining is something which will make few BTC before is not profitable anymore but for small people like me is getting more difficult and will not be easier.
10 units will make roughly 3 BTC a month.

yeah I am in your boat.  always less then 5-8k worth of gear.  not tiny maybe a little bigger then small.

but these days  to be middle sized means 20th.  I can't provide 20th in terms of the power needed.

that would be 42-44 s-3s  that comes to about 15 k-watts.  I can do 4k to 6k in the winter.  I can do 2k in the summer.

right now I am running
14 gridseed blades in my home around 1250 watts.
2 s-3's in my friends office.
1 dragon miner in china
32mh in the zencloud
a few icefury usb sticks in bitsolo.net-----------hey you never know

2 more s-3's in batch 4 when these com to my home i will be close to 1950 watts and that is about all I can do in house.

you might underestimate how worthwhile it could be to build a shed or do small modifications that allow your miners to exhaust heat directly outdoors, and run a few 220/240V circuits to handle more hardware and improve PSU efficiency.  I did $2000 worth of work to handle an additional 10kW of equipment (closed loop cooling unfortunately) and its paid itself off already in the additional mining income
