1661  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can developers make a decent return for their work in crypto currency on: July 13, 2013, 12:55:25 PM
i am starting to believe in the hard coded thing. I have been considering methdos of reserving then taking addresses.

Example, i create a new coin. I have hardcoded 10 addresses to each receive 0.3 %

the first one is mine, the next two will be for the two best pools over a period of 1 month. The next two are for The first two exchanges to take the coin.
One will be for a faucet, another for manual bounties and another for giveaway. the last two will be reserves in case the dev team needs a hot wallet.
Is this a hypothetical, or a feature you omitted from mentioning in the description of your Noirbits currency?

From the description of the Noirbits currency:
Centralized management has caused the downfall of too many coins.

...

There will be no premine.

All bounties will be from the community.

Also, to be honest, what development work is there on Noirbits besides changing some Litecoin parameters? I feel like I'm the only one not drinking the clonecoin kool-aid around here.

First you Develop a coin, get it to a market to give it a starting value. Then you begin to roll out services, and goods that can be bought with a currency that has measurable value determined by market forces. your judgmental tone begs you read the OP. Devs want profitability, i did not hold onto any coin before releasing it and since i get no donations, there is hardly any incentive to further develop. I have many ideas and most of them garner the interest but no traction since people want devs to do it for free. A total clone of LTC could do better than LTC if it has active devs who are well incentivised. The open community idea is great but does not pay bills. Getting a stipend for my work is not centralizing anything, it is simply getting paid for my work.

If you did understand anything about development you'd know that any form of idea needs developing, testing , refinement then release. even when released it does not mean people will like it. Have you done any coding before? If so please highlight how easy it is to code something useful. We live in a time where governments either frown on cryptos or don't understand them at all. i spent a very long phone call explaining to some officials what cryptos are, how they work and how they benefit society. after they expressed confusion i sent them simplified explanatory emails. They have agreed to conference again but they asked me one question, since it is not fiat, how do i expect to deal with the regs of founding such an enterprise? in which tax domain does it fall? Have you ever read any countries banking laws? i have read through quite a few and none has even an idea of how to truly classify what we are doing here in proper context.

So to be honest, you have no idea what you are talking about until you try what the "kool-aid" drinkers and makers are doing. Don't be a hack that just talks, if you don't like altcoins, or just Noirbits, at least be an informed person, right now your honesty just seems like jaded opinion.

I usually mine in just my boxer shorts

Isn't that the only way to mine?  Wink

I see your point, i'll deffer to your judgement, i'll try find  out who the owner is.
1668  Local / 山寨币 / Re: [ANN] Noirbits Launched 快来加入 on: July 12, 2013, 04:25:36 PM
I'll probably not make any money, i did not premine and i have a small miner so others are likely to get rich in the event of success.
1669  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Noirbits Update required Improved algos !!!! on: July 12, 2013, 01:30:54 PM
let's ride it out, i know there's quite a few blocks until the new algo kicks in but i think we should play it safe and wait our time. I know we'll suffer till then, but once the algo starts, we'll see exponential growth and profit, i've desisted from pumping Noirbits on cryptsy since dumpers were ruining the hype.

I was part of a discussion earlier and a question was raised. Considering all the information companies are sharing with governments, could it be possible that media players that connect to the internet for data, are not only getting information, but are sending it out? For example if you allow WM11 to connect to the net to get track info, it could send a list of songs you have, which is then saved for later use, either for marketing purposes or more sinister invasions of privacy? Also, could that be used as a consensual conduit for companies to gather information on your habits, preferences and activities?

yes , everything yes.

but... do you care?

i mean really care?

i actually do, to the effect that i would like to know any and all ways that my current os interacts with the internet, what data it sends and to whom it is sent. Do they keep this info or do they process and dispose?

If someone wants to know something about me, i want the freedom to choose whether to acquiesce their request or not.
1671  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Data Spying on: July 12, 2013, 11:04:36 AM
Oh no, people are going to find out I listen to Led Zeppelin.

ever walked into a mall and been surprised as you watched every screen you look at change it's advert to something you hold a mild interest in? ranging from golf clubs to  very specific items like a new antennae for your wifi card?
Looking forward screens suddenly displaying dildos wherever I go

Grin hehe, i know it's funny and maybe convenient in a way. But i prefer to be old fashioned about shopping. But that is a small example, there is a group working on a behavioral prediction engine. It can currently predict with 80% accuracy how many cigarettes  one of the subjects will smoke in a day. This is work done by a small unfunded group. Say they got a grant and really got serious with it, just by trolling through you browser history and watching how you respond to stimuli, it'll be able to predict the next 5 pages you will visit, by adding a pseudo-learning engine and a targeted censoring program, it could virtually give someone unimaginable power.  It took me two weeks to write a small prediction engine for my btc-e and cryptsy trading bot, and my skills leave much to be desired. How about a motivation of 3 million for ten really good programmers, they'll be able to tell exactly what size and color your dildo should be, whether you like it ribbed or smooth and what extras to add to make it more attractive.

now apply that machine to look through sensitive information. i'm not a hack prattling on about conspiracies, do a threat assesment on these three
1) governments
2) private sector
3) irresponsible individuals or collectives in the general public,

of the three who can do the most damage?

Say i have a functional botnet that mines data for me and send pertinent info, if i had access to that engine...

We should sell the data about ourselves and pocket the money rather than wait for them to steal it and pocket nothing.

lol - pretty much.

If only we could implement that.

it's gonna be a mini-novel so it'll take time to write. If people like the idea, i'll continue.

Nothing against the writing, but please do not spam with extra threads like that.   If you want to post excerpts of your writing, then do it here on this thread.

problem is if i post a chapter, and then post another in a day or two, the posts get separated by comments. I thought it would be cleaner to have a separate post that i can edit, adding more work than having cut-off chapters that members will have to search for amongst all the comments.

The Death of Humanity

Prologue

Hmmm... where to begin... I guess the beginning will suffice.

The year was 2030, technology was in yet another boom, smartphones that had once been the very edge of communication had become obsolete. The only company to survive the wash was a small Russian firm that had been working on experimental human implants. They had developed a series of small implants that humans could use as a smartphone immbeded on their napes, fingertips, ears and eyes. People no longer fussed about about download speeds, companies had developed what they refered to as NXG streaming. The speed was so outrageously high most content was streamed in 5D, the advent of these technologies had brought in much innovation, but many of the familiar sights in the cities had died off. Taking a loved one to watch the movies was a thing of the past, the old movie houses had finally been beaten. Some had tried to go into opera, but that had died an even faster death.

Unfortunately fossil fuels still held a large portion of our energy requirements, clean energy as a mainstay was still a pipe dream. Many ideas had been put forward but none had really yeilded fruit, some blamed funding issues and some blamed big oil companies. In one case a man was reported to have successfully driven his home-made water powered vehicle across Kenya, but that story dissappeared from the news cycles very quickly.

The youth were running the world now, in varying capacities men and women between the ages of 19 and 40 had become the most powerful people on the planet. The balance of power had shifted across continents in ways unforeseen. In Europe many economies had succumbed to recession and civil wars broke out, the wars were quick and very decisive, most governments were toppled and new leaders were chosen. The systems of communism and capitalism had failed separately, but a wave of scholars led by a German, Edward Weiss , had begun lecturing and promoting a blend of the two that gained the name "Weissisim". It spread like a plague, and during the "shift wars" as we began to call them, many countries re-drew their borders, some split up, but for the most part many became united. During all this scuffling my own country was saved from war but we suffered, there was hunger and disease at an unprecedented level. My father compared the horrors to that of when we were called the Soviet Union. He said that he was lucky to survive the first one, and lessons learnt during that time had driven him to the pinnacle of society.

In America democracy still held it's ground firmly, they had all watched in dismay as Europe evolved into a new beast, the new leaders did not respect or fear the might of the Americans. As Michelle Card became the first female president she had tried to co-erce some of the nations to stick to democracy, with almost catastrophic results, John Snow of England and Pierre Lucard of France had nearly declared war before the Americans' hasty retreat. Emboldened by the moves of Europeans, Asian countries saw changes in their own political systems, a coup in China and N.Korea saw full democracy being implemented there, much to the relief of Americans.

However their relief was short lived, seems the world always needs a twist. In an act of vengeance a scientist and a soldier in Pakistan shot an experimental thermobaric missile into the center of the American embassy killing nearly 200 people in an instant. American reproach was swift and very loud, as apologetic as the Pakistani's were, the war machine in America saw an opportunity and the rhetoric began to escalate. In yet another weird twist of fate, the President of India and the President of Pakistan were distantly related, seeing possible war and not wanting a foreign military presence in the region, talks began about forming alliances.

After the demise of the old guard, a new breed of African leaders had risen, with radical ideas and hopes of becoming powerful. One man stood out though, out of the ashes of his burnt out country he had led a revolution, Kagame Mutumwa, a Zimbabwean Army Chief, youngest in the world took the country in hours and had placed himself at the top. Using strict military conduct he had forged a new path, he envisioned his country as the America of Africa. In his first year he managed to form a federation of most of the Southern African nations. By the time western countries realized what he had done, their input was of little consequence. In a show of good will, he made visits to the United States, France, Germany and Russia. That was the first time i saw him and spoke with him. I was young then and my job as the President's son was to smile and wave while holding mothers' hand. Kagame was a man then and everyone loved him. As for my young mind, all i could think of was taking his son and daughter around the estate and show them around. My English was flawless though tinted by my Russian decent, i welcomed any chance i could get to speak the language of my nanny.

My name is Nikita Petrovich Zhelezkin, and this is the story of Kagame, the man who killed Humanity.
