1683  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any "Get Paid To Refer" website like "latium.cc" on: July 14, 2014, 04:26:30 AM
well I think the most profitable site with referals is freebitco.in. Just try to get as many as referals as you can, and how the bitcoin is spreading, new people will be comin in  more and more.

i don't think freebitco.in is better then latium.Because latium pays much bigger then freebitco.in.In freebitco.in we just earn satoshi and satoshi. In this site if we refer 4 people signup we can earn 0.003 BTC.

The last I read was the the average block time for 700 TH was 4days. How would this convert into cost per block or hash rate? I have serious doubts that this could work.

They price will be selected by GHS price.
1685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / ‘World’s first bitcoin only’ candidate runs for Swedish parliament on: July 13, 2014, 12:18:29 PM
While a number of politicians around the world have embraced the most popular digital cryptocurrency for fundraising, a candidate for the Swedish parliament takes it a step further and says he accepts nothing but bitcoins for his campaign.

“The World's First Political Bitcoin Only Candidate” - that’s how Mathias Sundin, 36, the deputy mayor of Norrköping, eastern Sweden and a member of the Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) describes himself in his Twitter account.

“If you want to support my campaign, you can’t give me dollars, euros or Swedish kronor, you must donate in bitcoins,” Sundin writes in his blog.

In April, a candidate in local Irish elections, Ossian Smyth, announced he was the first politician in the country to accept bitcoins, saying this was “the most transparent ways of receiving donations,” according to Siliconrepublic. A number of politicians in the US earlier announced they were accepting virtual currency as donations as well. They have not rejected other ways of fundraising though.

Sundin believes exclusively sticking to bitcoin can help spread the digital currency. The politician also promises to “resist knee-jerk regulation of bitcoin, other digital currencies, and disruptive innovation in general,” if he is elected.

Earlier this year, Sweden’s central bank issued a report warning of the risks that virtual currencies pose.

“There are clear disadvantages with virtual currencies,” the report says. “Issuing these currencies is not subject to regulation and the issuers are not under financial supervision. This means that consumer protection is weak in certain aspects and that the users may be exposed to risks.”

Sundin confesses he also used to be a skeptic in the past. What made him change his mind was actually ordering pizza with bitcoin.

“Personally, at first, I only saw the negative headlines about bitcoin and thought it was some sort of unserious speculation bubble,” he recalls. “Then I read up on it and understood that it has the potential to change the world. (Or, really, it was when I realised that I could order pizza and pay in bitcoin).”

Trust in the digital currencies was put to the test earlier this year, when the world’s largest bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox Co. lost around 850,000 bitcoins ($500 million at current prices), allegedly following a hacker attack. Later Mt Gox said it had recovered 200,000 bitcoins.

Bitcoin’s reputation has also been tainted by the fact it was used for purchases at the Silk Road black market website, which offered goods ranging from Schedule I narcotics to highly illegal weapons. The website was shut down and its alleged owner arrested in October, 2013.

Despite the big risks and setbacks, the popularity of the virtual currency has been growing. The Bank of Russia has recently signaled it is ready to legalize bitcoin, with a top official saying “the instrument could be the future.”

California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a bill making alternative currencies, including bitcoin, lawful in the state. Authors of the bill said they wanted the state to catch up with “growing and innovative payments market.”

With the amount of publicity – good or bad – bitcoin receives, making it a centerpiece of one’s political campaign might not be that strange or unwise.

Hi,
Yesterday i have thought about mining and its development while i am thinking about this i got an idea of block based mining. On cloud mining website we buy GHS and mine randomly with our specific mining power.
But i got an idea that now cloud mining should also add this idea " Block Based Mininh ".In this users will select the appropiate amount of GHS and the no of blocks they want to mine and pay the cost.
When the next two blocks will be mined they will get their reward and there mining will be stopped

like i selected

1 T/hs for 10 blocks

What do you think about this idea?

1695  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin price 'to hit $2000' by end of the year | ThecTelegraph | #bitcoinprice on: July 11, 2014, 11:44:43 AM
Value of virtual currency predicted to soar as demand increases

The price of one bitcoin will reach $2000 by the end of 2014, a venture capitalist has predicted - a 226pc increase from the virtual currency's present value.

Speaking at CoinSummit in London on Thursday, Geoff Lewis, a partner at the Founders Fund, said he will be "really bullish when there is low volatility" but estimates that the value of one bitcoin will soar during the next five months.

On Thursday afternoon, Bitcoin was trading at around $615, compared to almost $1,200 at the end of November. After a clampdown on the currency by Chinese authorities in May and the collapse of online exchange MtGox, its value has fallen steadily in the last six months.

However, other industry experts agreed with the optimistic price predictions made by Mr Lewis. Millionaire investor Roger Ver, who has been called "Bitcoin Jesus" because of his backing of businesses involving the currency, said that he expects the price to boom.
"I actually think $2000 is a pretty conservative estimate," he told The Telegraph. "We don't know for sure if it's going to happen in this year, but there's no doubt in my mind that Bitcoin's price is going to be thousands of dollars and, almost for sure, tens of thousands of dollars for one."

Mr Ver, who in December 2013 donated 1,000 bitcoins to the Foundation for Economic Education, first became involved with Bitcoin in 2011, when it was priced at $1 per unit.

"Currently, there are not enough bitcoins for every person in England to have one, and it is a worldwide currency that can be used by any person on the entire planet," he said."

"If there are not even enough for each person in England to have one, the price of Bitcoin is going to have to be a heck of a lot more than it is today."

There are now over 13m bitcoins in circulation, and analysts predict that there will be 8m user wallets by the end of the year.

1696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Eschewing Price, Pantera Launches BitIndex to Track Bitcoin on: July 10, 2014, 03:31:47 PM
Pantera Capital, an investment fund that focuses on bitcoin, has announced an index it says will allow investors to track the cryptocurrency over a medium-term timeframe.

Dubbed the BitIndex, it takes into account seven different factors that Pantera believes accurately charts bitcoin’s overall progress.

What’s interesting is Pantera Capital is not including price in the BitIndex, instead tracking other data sources that it believes lends to bitcoin’s technological progression.

1697  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Ex-Credit Suisse manager turns to Bitcoin on: July 10, 2014, 10:51:34 AM
A UK-based Bitcoin exchange has tapped the former global head of commodities at Credit Suisse to lead its attempt to promote professional trading of the virtual currency.
Adam Knight, who has been an angel investor in London since leaving Credit Suisse in 2011, has become executive chairman of Coinfloor and taken a stake in the company in a fresh fundraising round.
“Having spent my career trading commodity markets, I understand the exchange, clearing house and storage models well and wanted to find a team with the right skills and approach to build a robust global Bitcoin financial services business,” said Mr Knight.
“Bitcoin has survived some pretty significant shocks and proven to be far more robust than I had initially expected.”
A number of entrepreneurs are trying to build a second generation of virtual currency trading platforms, following the bankruptcy in March of the earliest and once largest exchange, Mt Gox.
That collapse, and the apparent loss of millions of dollars worth of the virtual currency, shook confidence among Bitcoin users and highlighted the experimental nature of the technology. Bitcoin was created five years ago by an anonymous computer scientist as an alternative to government-controlled currencies.
Coinfloor has said its platform is aimed at professional traders, including high-frequency traders, and aims to overcome institutional scepticism about the safety of Bitcoin exchanges by making public the details of its Bitcoin holdings.
“Adam’s expertise of regulatory compliance, risk and governance procedures will be invaluable,” said Mark Lamb, Coinfloor’s founder.
Mr Lamb declined to give details of the size of its new fundraising, but said Mr Knight was joined in the round by the company’s existing backers, Passion Capital and Taavet Hinrikus. Passion Capital is an angel investment firm led by Stefan Glaenzer, former chairman of online radio pioneer Last.fm and a founder of auction site Ricardo.de, and Mr Hinrikus was an early employee at Skype.
Coinfloor began registering customers last October and, following technical delays, began trading this year.

1698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Dollar-Backed Digital Currency Aims to Fix Bitcoin’s Volatility Dilemma on: July 09, 2014, 03:31:54 PM
A Santa Monica-based startup says it has produced the first dollar-backed digital currency. If successful, this new currency could exploit bitcoin’s inexpensive and direct payments network, while avoiding its volatility.
The startup, Realcoin, is set to announce that its digital currency, dubbed realcoins, will be backed one-to-one by a fully auditable reserve of dollars.
The bearer of these realcoins will have the right to redeem them for U.S. currency. That should make realcoin much more stable than bitcoin, which saw an 86-fold increase over the first 11 months of last year only to succumb to a 70% decline in the following four months. Such volatility has detracted from bitcoin’s appeal as a payments mechanism.

Founded by Brock Pierce, a former Disney child actor who is now a prolific bitcoin investor, along with ad industry entrepreneur Reeve Collins and software engineer Craig Sellars, Realcoin is the latest in a wave of so-called Bitcoin 2.0 ventures, which use bitcoin’s computer infrastructure to exchange property and execute contracts without third-party intermediaries. These projects open up bitcoin’s decentralized, peer-to-peer network to a variety of commercial uses beyond just transactions denominated in bitcoins.
“Unfortunately, there has been confusion for people between the currency called bitcoin and the technology called bitcoin, when they are distinctly different things,” said Mr. Collins, Realcoin’s Chief Executive Officer. In effect “we are digitizing the dollar and giving that digital dollar access to the bitcoin blockchain.”
The blockchain is a publicly shared ledger of transactions maintained by a decentralized network of computer owners known as miners, whose machines keep it updated in return for periodic rewards in bitcoin. The system was initially designed to protect the integrity of the currency, ensuring bitcoins couldn’t be double-spent, or counterfeited, thus obviating the need for transactions to pass through banks and other trusted third-party intermediaries.
A few years after bitcoin’s 2009 launch, however, Bitcoin 2.0 developers are creating programs that used the blockchain’s method of validating transactions for different legal arrangements. Thus digitized property could be exchanged, commercial deals could be struck and contracts could be executed, all without engaging fee-charging middlemen.
Realcoin will use a Bitcoin 2.0 software protocol known as Mastercoin, which takes digitized information about particular assets or contracts and embeds it into bitcoin transactions. In this case, that data will define the rights attached to realcoins. Realcoin founder Mr. Sellars is the chief technology officer of the Mastercoin Foundation.
To ensure realcoins retain their value at one dollar, the firm will maintain a real-time record of its dollar-based reserves, all held in conservative investments, and will subject that record to the blockchain’s authenticating system, Mr. Collins said. Realcoins will be introduced or removed from circulation depending on whether dollars are being added or redeemed.
Mr. Collins said Realcoin has signed with a major banking partner and is seeking deals with other banks, digital-currency exchanges and ATM providers to become “gateways” for buying, trading or redeeming realcoins around the world. In creating a global network for people to cheaply and quickly exchange claims on the world’s main reserve currency, it could boost worldwide demand for dollars, he says.
Mr. Collins said Realcoin’s lawyers are working to obtain U.S. money transmitter licenses from those states that require them and that it also plans to issue digital currencies backed by euros and yen.
It’s unclear how realcoin will be received in countries with capital controls such as China and Argentina, whose citizens could use it to circumvent limits on foreign currency.
Realcoin might also attract scorn from bitcoin’s libertarian supporters, who see the independent digital currency as a successor to, not a facilitator of, government-controlled currencies.
Asked about such a reaction, Realcoin founder Mr. Pierce said, “I’m not selling any of my bitcoins. I’m trying to build a host of businesses that are taking advantage of this new emerging payments protocol as well as the currency

1699  Economy / Service Discussion / Mt. Gox CEO selling Bitcoins.com, will give some proceeds to burned investors on: July 09, 2014, 11:28:07 AM
Mark Karpeles, CEO of the now-bankrupt Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox, is auctioning off Bitcoins.com, a site Karpeles launched last year to provide information around the digital currency.

The domain will be sold July 24 by the U.S.-based auction house Heritage Auctions, with an opening bid set at $185,000. The sale is expected to fetch as much as $750,000.

Mt. Gox was once the largest online exchange for buying and selling bitcoins, but was forced to file for bankruptcy earlier this year after a massive hacking incident, incurring debts of more than $63 million.

Bitcoins.com has been owned and operated by Tibanne Co., Ltd., the parent company of Mt. Gox. It is different from the singular Bitcoin.com, which is owned by Blockchain, which makes a Bitcoin wallet app.

Proceeds from the sale of Bitcoins.com will partly be used to provide relief to Bitcoin holders who lost money in the collapse of Mt. Gox, Karpeles said in a statement shared with Coindesk, a Bitcoin news site, and confirmed via email to the IDG News Service.

The money will also be used to keep Tibanne running, Karpeles said, but at least half of the sale price will be paid to benefit Mt. Gox creditors.

“It is difficult for us at this time to provide a more accurate figure,” he said.

Despite Mt. Gox’s fall, interest in Bitcoin remains high among businesses and investors alike.

A number of other online exchanges like Coinbase and Circle have raised millions of dollars from prominent investors like Andreessen Horowitz, which could give them the cash to buy up Mt. Gox’s domain. That is, if they want to.
