1681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why There Should Be A Bitcoin Central Bank on: September 05, 2014, 05:29:56 AM
This is just embarrassing... Total ignorance of the problem satoshi was setting out to solve.

It's an op-ed piece, i don't think it reflects the views of Forbes...

Yeah, but it is still embarrassingly ignorant.

It is.

It may not reflect the opinion of Forbes.

But it does reflect badly on Forbes. Certainly to anyone who understands bitcoin and why it was created in the first place.
Media outlets often will try to find writers to write editorials that are contrary to their own beliefs. This adds some level of balance to the conversation. I certainly do not agree with this writer's opinion however I do think it is healthy to have these kinds of discussions.
1682  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoins with elections on: September 05, 2014, 05:26:08 AM
Candidates running for office would still need to gather the identity of the people giving the donations the same way they gather the identity of people giving fiat based donations.

Campaign donations is one thing that bitcoin is not appropriate for. It would make it too easy to appear that many people are donating to a candidate when in fact only one person is giving a lot of money (more then they should be). This could result in the candidate being inappropriately influenced by the person donating a lot of bitcoin to their campaign.
1683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's usage spread on: September 05, 2014, 05:22:07 AM
Just one think, that maybe is very simple but i don't understand: in which case "two different addresses are both used as inputs into the same transaction"?

Here is an example:
https://blockchain.info/tx/0dc6416fc7c2db6167212bc50a6d3d940c3d40d1e3a4067b9194ae45256c6cae

In that transaction we see that the spender spent 0.0020125 BTC that were previously received at 1MxwKaCRWQnVseef7K8K93HgV6dr1dtSdP and 0.00022488 BTC that were previously received at 1AiWaZrV1ge1twKZUXHSb2WMThWEPaTeaZ.

Since, in order to be valid, this transaction must have signatures from the private keys that are associated with BOTH of those addresses, we can say that it is very likely that both 1MxwKaCRWQnVseef7K8K93HgV6dr1dtSdP and 1AiWaZrV1ge1twKZUXHSb2WMThWEPaTeaZ are under the control of the same person (or company).

Purely out of curiosity is there a reason someone would want to or need to do it that way?
If they don't have enough inputs to cover a transaction they will need to use two (or more) addresses to be able to send the amount of bitcoin to the address(es) they need to send.
1684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Charlie Shrem - "I Knew What I Was Doing Was Wrong" on: September 05, 2014, 05:17:59 AM
I was expecting more of a fight from Shrem.. They must have scared him good in order to get him to agree to a plea deal.
"Alright Charlie, we own you now. You understand that? So if you don't want to spend the next twenty years having your face be used as a fucking condom for bubba, here's what you're going to say. You know what you did was wrong. Make sure you say the word 'narcotics'. It makes drugs sound way more dangerous and scary."
I don't think the government can dictate what exactly is said when a defendant pleads guilty. It is actually generally the other way around that the government agrees to make specific statements/recommendations to the judge in exchange for a guilty plea.

The guy's life was on the line.  It is best to get the situation wrapped up IMHO.
I agree 100%. I personally think the charges were bogus and nothing more then a technicality. He was probably also charged with harsher charges then what was really appropriate. He was facing decades in prison and that level of uncertainty gives him just too much of an incentive to reach a plea deal.
1685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BBC News: Charlie Shrem admits unlicensed money transfers on: September 05, 2014, 04:49:48 AM
Is he arrested for selling bitcoin or because of his link to silkroad?

There are still a lot of btc sellers on localbitcoin. Some have been selling for more than a year and these sellers don't appear to be worry.
More likely then not, yes. Although this is not the official stance of the government. He was officially charged and arrested for violating AML rules/laws.

I personally think the government is essentially trying to spread FUD about participating in the sale (and purchase) of drugs on darknet/deepweb sites. I also find it ironic that many more of these kinds of sites have popped up almost right after SR was taken down and media reports have said that overall business is way up since SR was taken down.
1686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What´s the future of money? on: September 05, 2014, 01:56:34 AM
Dollar is going to collapse and a totally new currency is going to be created.

I don't know if bitcoin will be of any use by then.

Why not? Bitcoin is superior to the USD in many aspects. And we don't need to wait for the USD to collapse to widely use it.

If the government gets a hold of a new currency/cryptocurrency that is easy to use and obtain then bitcoin would be dust because the government knows how to promote it better and people would start holding more.

I think Bitcoin is just the start of things

Edit: bitcoin won't be dust but it may have some value if people learn to hold then trade/sell

A government crypto currency wouldn't be like a decentralized one. That's a really big problem. Supply could easily be increased as they wish, as with fiat money. Money has to be choosen in the free market, voluntarily, not imposed by anyone.
Fiat money is generally not imposed on the citizens of a country, it is used because many others accept it for payment and because many other people consider it valuable. You can spend dollars in most of the world for these same reasons, the US dollar is not considered an official currency by the government but it is known to be valuable enough so that merchants will accept it.
1687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's usage spread on: September 05, 2014, 01:50:54 AM
There have been charts including this one by MIT:

I think the reason for this change is that people are now spending a lot more to mine bitcoin. As a result they will have bigger bills to pay that they need to sell their mined bitcoin for. In 2009 for example it almost wouldn't even be worth someone's time to sell their mined bitcoin to cover their electric costs.

Another likely reason is the fact that most miners use pools to mine. As a result (with the exception of eligius), the found block will have the block subsidy "deposited" into the pool address, and when it is time to pay the miners the reward will be transferred to the miner's address.

Bravo! I've been seeing that graph posted for a while now and you are the only one that actually realizes what's going on. The reason an outside entity like MIT can't just grab the Blockchain and start analyzing transactions is because they really don't know how Bitcoin works or have any involvement in the community of users. It was probably some grad students class paper and he was "guided" (and I'm using the term loosely) by an even more clueless professor.
What they should do is try to figure out the average pattern of the "route" of a deposit into an exchange account, and then compare that route to the routes of found blocks. This would get a much better picture of how much of the miner's earnings are actually spent in economic terms.
1688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hacker Leaks Celebrity Nudes for BTC on: September 05, 2014, 12:19:15 AM
It's been easier for hackers and illegal doer's performing their activities online due to bitcoin. While it do have a positive side as well people are not gonna talk on it but negative. One more stain has been added to bitcoin  Roll Eyes
Bitcoin does not help hackers doing their illegal actives at all. It provides a somewhat anon method of selling their services and profiting from hacking, but bitcoin does not in any way facilitate hacking.

It is ironic that the person who actually posted the pictures has made very little money off of posting the pictures.

1690  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin stickers on gas pumps picture now added on: September 05, 2014, 12:14:04 AM
So you're putting those stickers at places in order to promote Bitcoin... that might not be a very good idea. I don't think they'll think about adopting it if you're plastering them everywhere without consent. Also bitcoin.comUndecided Undecided Undecided
bitcoin.com works now.

Yeah just checked the address. Sure, it works, but I was merely pointing out that if you're really supporting a decentralized an open project, you may want to go with the .org address. But as I see, the .com address actually looks pretty sleek and isn't only hogged by a single company.
Both domains work, but they are two different websites. Bitcoin.com is run by blockchain.info who is somewhat attempting to profit from the website by promoting their own services and selling ads. Bitcoin.org on the other hand gives a much more neutral view of the various wallet services and attempts to give a very high level explanation as to how bitcoin works. I think the .org domain is much better site to be promoting if you want to promote bitcoin.
1691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of all companies that accept BTC? on: September 05, 2014, 12:07:36 AM
http://coinmap.org/

There's a few if you google them, but the above one is pretty good and yiou can find shops near to you.

that's really great!

It's just difficult if you don't know where is located a company...
I think the point is that it gives you stores/merchants that are near you. The premise behind it is the fact that people likely do not want to travel long distances to buy everyday items or even large purchases so if they can find a store closer to where they are at the time they are looking they are more likely to visit the store and spend their bitcoin there.
1692  Economy / Economics / Re: are things cheaper if I pay through my bitcoin wallet than using my debit? on: August 19, 2014, 11:49:44 PM
Does your debit card company charge you fees? Many do.
I wouldn't say that your bank will charge you for a debit card, but the associated bank account will likely charge you a number of fees if you do not have enough money to carry a large balance in the account.
1693  Economy / Economics / Re: Who is behind the flash crash? on: August 19, 2014, 11:43:53 PM
It went down to around 310 on btc-e when someone dump a lot of coin. So, it is not just bitstamp and bitfinex.
Someone who has controlled of a lot of bitcoin is dumping them everyday.

Here is a question for the conspiracy-theorists:

Ok, you believe that some big whale dumped coins on the market in order to drive the price down so they could buy them back cheaply. Well, this big whale sold bitcoins for as low as $310. What price did they buy them back at?
They would not necessarily want to buy the BTC back. Generally speaking when someone sells that large of a position they are doing so to cash out and does not want to try to get back into the market. I do however doubt that the crash was caused by a whale. I think it would be more likely that margin requirements were changed on btc-e.
1694  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you do if you received 20 bitcoins? on: August 11, 2014, 04:07:46 AM
Someone may send to the wrong address and could be sad to lose 20 BTC. Absolutely return back to the sending address. Same as pick up a wallet containing cash, card, ID etc, what will you do?

It concerns me that there are thee posts advocating returning the funds to the "sending address," no questions asked.

Bitcoin has no such concept. When you spend Bitcoin, you spend coin outputs. Often, but not always, you must sign the transaction with a specific "address" to spend those outputs. If any type of coin mixing is involved, it may not be clear who the "sender" is. Which of the (for example) 5 "senders" would you return the coins to?

If it was clear who the sender was I'd absolutely return it. Otherwise, I'd make an effort to contact the sender. The reality is that sending it back is probably better than keeping it unless the transaction is so complicated that it could be from anyone. How would you feel if you mistakenly sent 20BTC (don't ask me how).
I agree with this. If I am able to somehow figure out who the sender was then I would return the coins to them, otherwise the coins would be mine for the keeping.
1695  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin (BTC/USD) Price Prediction. $4000-$6500 by August/September 2014. on: July 12, 2014, 07:24:38 PM
So July's mega-rally has been delayed to August-September or even October oh sweet November?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's delayed once again till next year. A lot of fresh fiat would have to enter the market in order for btc to reach $5k, and there doesn't seem to be any significant event in the horizon that would point to such a buying frenzy.
1696  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are you an optimist or pessimist after the auction? on: July 02, 2014, 06:50:02 PM
I believe this auction is definitely good news for the price of bitcoin, especially since it seems that it was one bidder who bought up all those coins. It does appear that we may be at the start of a sustained rise that could see the price hitting the $1k mark before the end of the summer.
1697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: July 02, 2014, 06:33:56 PM
Any new news on when they hope to get the testnet up and running? I've checked the Google group but there doesn't seem to be anything new in terms of the release schedule, just that they will make an announcement when they're ready.
1698  Other / Off-topic / Re: How does it feel usa ? on: July 02, 2014, 05:59:23 PM
What's this world cup everyone's been talking about?

It's the championship of a game they call football worldwide except in North America where it's called soccer.

In Europe grown men play it and it causes riots. In North America soccer moms take their little girls to play it.

Bodily contact is not allowed but if it happens it usually leads to rolling around on the field with one's knees clasped to one's chest until a penalty is called and then jumping up smiling and laughing as if nothing happened.

I hope that helped.  Smiley Wink Cheesy Grin Cool

Real football is about kicking a ball with your foot, like the name would imply.

American football (a.k.a handegg) is about playing with an egg shaped 'ball' and using mostly your hands. And because of the uncivilized nature of USA it also involves lot of physical contact, because they have to vent their aggression somewhere.

+1. American football has serious drawbacks. A lot of those poor players suffer brain damage and horrendous injuries for the enjoyment of alcohol-crazed spectators. What's worse are those college players mostly from ghettos that suffer and don't even make a dime out of it, while the universities milk in the millions.
1699  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's wrong with eating meat? on: July 02, 2014, 05:48:15 PM
According to PETA, cats can thrive on a vegetarian diet: http://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/is-it-safe-to-feed-my-dog-or-cat-a-vegetarian-diet/

It's pretty silly that they try to justify such a diet for strict carnivores likes cats.

LOL! I've read a few reports where cats have died and/or become very sick from vegetarian diets.  For what it's worth, PETA should not be trusted about anything.   They are the biggest hypocrites out there.  They tell us that it's wrong to kill animals, but yet they do it themselves.

Yes they can thrive on a vegetarian diet, they can also get sick from a vegetarian diet. They can do either one very well, but because the majority of humans are closed minded individuals not willing to go against their religious beliefs, all of a sudden if one cat becomes sick through a vegetarian diet, simple minded human conclusion is: "LOL PETA CAN'T BE TRUSTED!!!!!!"

For example, at one point the oldest living dog in the world was a vegan dog, living up to 189 dog years, holding the Guinness world record:

http://www.care2.com/greenliving/vegetarian-dog-lives-to-189-years.html

I used to be as ignorant and foolish as you two by the way, not knowing what I was missing out on and not unlocking my true potential by trying out something new and removing meat from my diet. So that's okay, I think we're all ignorant and foolish at one point in our lives, we might have been brought up in a religion for example, or maybe thought pop idols such as Justin Bieber were heroes, or maybe made a lot of stupid decisions, who knows.

But from my own experience, every single aspect of my life has improved thanks to changing my diet. Literally everything. It's the ultimate panacea. It's a revelation, a single change in my life that changed it for the better. I think if you're eating meat, you don't have as much energy, as much of a clear mind, or as much power and intelligence as I and other vegetarians and vegans have on a daily basis.

If you don't believe me, check out how crime rates improved after a vegan diet: http://vegetarianspotlight.com/2011/vegan-diet-impacts-california-prison/

Quote
In a video-taped interview obtained by Vegetarian Spotlight, Victor Valley nutrition services coordinator Julianne Aranda explains that “what we eat not only affects us physically, but it affects our mental attitude, our aggressiveness and our ability to make good decisions”

There's a lot of scumbags on the planet, a lot of rapists, muderers, scammers, people that will deceive you in order to take a full advantage of you. Millions of people get sent to the hospital per year due to illness and diseases, and most people think that's just normal.

But the oldest vegetarians and vegans out there are always full of energy and health like I am, the oldest marathon runner in the world is a 103 year old vegetarian, the first male to 115 years old was a vegetarian heavy drinker and smoker, the ultramarathon world record belongs to two vegans 68 and 64 years old, speaking of world records even the heaviest weight lifted in the world belongs to a vegan, most ironman championship wins world record belong to a vegan too.

It allowed people to think more clearly, allowed people to think far enough ahead about their decisions so they don't commit crimes. Seriously, if you're eating meat, you're nowhere near as fast or clear a thinker as a vegetarian or vegan nearby. Sorry but you're dulled and hindered by the crap you eat.

103 year old marathon runner - world record holder - full of energy and full of life

Here are some famous vegetarians and vegans, let me know what you think:

Einstein - Theory of Relativity. Had the most groundbreaking discovery of the 20th century.
Isaac Newton - Created Calculus and Founded Physics. He is considered the father of Physics, the father of Calculus, the Father of Modern Medicine, and even the Father of Modern Science.
Nikola Tesla - Invented the radio and Alternating Current. Has a cult following that many of his inventions were stolen.
Gandhi - Civil Rights Movement
Buddha - Founded Buddhism
Steve Jobs - Created Apple
Ramanujan - Genius mathematician.
Edward Wittin - Einstein's successor and foremost string theorist
Brian Greene - Genius who refuted Einstein's theory that space could stretch but not tear.
Rosa Parks
Thomas Edison
Benjamin Franklin
Prince
Mike Tyson
Forest Whitaker
Natalie Portman
George Bernard Shaw
Leonardo Da Vinci
Leo Tolstoy
Cesar Chavez
Russell Brand
Carl Lewis
Paul McCartney
Bree Olson
Alicia Silverstone
John Harvey Kellogg
Michael Jackson

IDK you may not know the next people on the list, I don't know much about athletes but when I talked to people who do, they recognized these names. I mean I know Mike Tyson of course, but I don't know much about these next people in the list to be honest, they were apparently some of the best athletes in the world and vegetarian:

Joe Namath
Tony La Russa
Martina Navratilova
Robert Parish
Billie Jean King
Carl Lewis
Timothy Bradley

From my own experience it's hard for me NOT to accomplish anything, I've just been able to dominate almost every endeavour put in front of me thus far since I changed my diet, it is so funny sometimes that people don't believe you, but I'm a completely different, better person. It's a huge boost to what I was before, I'm not joking, I'm better in every single aspect. It's amazing. But hey, you don't have to believe, just ask Einstein or Thomas Edison, the wizard of Menlo Park, or even Leonardo Da Vinci, the smartest people of their time, dominating.

Heck if you want a starter to see why you should try a vegan or vegetarian diet, watch the videos on my signature. Otherwise you're just a closed minded individual left behind in my dust of accomplishments and improved intelligence Smiley.

Smiley

XD

Benefits I felt after taking meat out of my diet

Prevent the top 10 leading causes of death by becoming Vegan

Girl has stage 3 brain cancer, changes to vegan diet, cures cancer

Guy has AIDs, switches to vegan diet, cures AIDS

Lol, us two are ignorant and foolish because we believe that a carnivore such as a cat should be fed meat? They're called carnivores for a reason you know...

For all we know that vegan dog could have been getting his nutrients from insects and rodents when his deluded owners weren't paying attention.

You said vegans are less aggressive, that's probably because they suffer from low testosterone.

It's funny how you consider us to be close-minded because we enjoy and benefit from a vast variety of nutritious foods, while you restrict yourself to fruits/veggies/grains.

There's another thing that's pretty weird too. You kept posting pics of vegan bodybuilders, so I checked out the website and a lit of those bodybuilders posted that they eat a low-carb/high-protein diet on their profiles. I don't see how they're doing that with unprocessed plant-based foods that are high in carbs. They must be wasting tons of money on highly-processed vegan protein shakes.

No thank you, I'll continue getting my high-quality protein from yummy animals.
1700  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who believes in $10,000 a coin? on: July 01, 2014, 08:35:18 PM
It's interesting to see how just a month ago, lots of outdoor were predicting $5000 in July, while now, many don't think it will ever hit that figure. I think we will break the ATH either this year or early 2015. Before a new ATH, there's no benefit in speculating if we'll hit $10k or not.
