1741  Economy / Collectibles / Re: (WTS) 2013 Silver-w/-Gold 1BTC Casascius coins - Toronto, Ontario - 2.30BTC on: July 05, 2014, 01:17:57 PM
If you have them would you be prepared to do ten @ 2.15 BTC = 21.50 BTC inclusive of signed for shipping to the States and escrow?

while I have enough coins to do that, i would rather keep my collection intact for a few years by selling a coin here and there rather than selling the majority in a single discounted purchase - I hope you can understand. I could sell 3 coins for 6.75BTC and include shipping in that (insurance would be extra if you want the package marked at sale value). Escrow is not a problem, but I would ask you pay the escrow fee. Elianite is a good forum member who may do a 0.5% escrow or less for a quick-turnover sale by me.

(generally, ive been shifting my price upwards slightly with every coin sold - I am more than happy to sit on these until 2020 because i know they are true collectors items, but at the right price selling a coin improves my liquidity to buy mining hardware)
1742  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: July 05, 2014, 01:10:32 PM

update after 1.5hrs of operation:

the unit is stable at about 927GH for two units - pretty good. still waiting for the pools delay to confirm.
Im using 1 DPS800 at 120V per rk-box, with 4 independant 16awg cables that I sell, and the second psu having two cables and two 16awg splitters. both methods are stable without wires getting warm. (up to ~130w per splitter or 260W were 16awg, with clear headroom to carry more Smiley)

the fan speed is silly though - how can this be turned down since the PWM functionality is clearly not in place and the fans are spinning at 100% blowing barely-warm exhaust and are probably in the same 70dB range as an SP10 at 60%

You may have to install lower power fans.

I tried but 70cfm fans were not sufficient - temps got up into the 55-65 range and 2 boards turned off. had to switch back. any good 100-120cfm suggestions?

also, after 9hrs operation the miners have 925GH hashrate but 12% rejects  - meaning only ~810Gh at the pool.
1743  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: July 05, 2014, 01:08:51 PM

I can only laugh at the total speed and at the zig zag graph. I am pretty sure that no other big mining operation has this kind of graph which shows ken's level of competence.

it is clear that ken is either reallocating hardware to other mining addresses, or the hasfast boards are failing faster than they can be replaced. either way it is a joke
1744  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: July 05, 2014, 12:59:34 PM
It seems it would be easier to upgrade s2 units than s1.

Isn't an S2 just essentially multiple S1 blades in a bigger case? In which case I assume it would be just as esy to upgrade an S2 as it would be to upgrade an S1. I would assume that if the upgrade kit is ever made available it would consist of the bare boards leaving us to bolt on the existing heatsinks (careful with the paste) and fit them into the case.

I am not sure why Bitmain are not releasing the upgrades yet as I would have thought it would be quick BTC for them as they won't have to supply heatsinks or cases, I can olny assume the delay is either due to firmware issues or because they want to get the most out of new purchases first.

the S1 and S2 are very different. The S1 upgrade would be pcb-only since the heatsinks are so large. An S2 upgrade would almost certainly include heatsinks, as they are much thinner and re-mounting 10 pcbs to heatsinks per S2 would be a pain
1745  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 05, 2014, 03:16:30 AM
Rocket Boxes been mining for 24 hrs now. I'm having same ghs/watts as setup video. Seems real stable with pi image. I'm gonna replace fans tonight because of noise level. I'll post once I find a quite fan solution. By the way these fans suck air through miner, they do not push.

absolutely this.  PWM feature clearly not present as fans run at 100% all the time. i also ex;pected a push configuration, and as such set up in the wrong direction

a lot of work is needed - PWM working, better stats, used/pass for the RPi, and a LOT less aluminum.
1746  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: July 05, 2014, 01:08:45 AM
Got my rkbox today. Bad I don't have time to properly config. It's kind of loud though. Need to get the s3 for comparison :-)

The class 10 8GB card looks blank. Does it supposed have a pi image?

mine arrived today.
1) shipping packaging sucked. loose cables rattling around, both miners have bent corners on the frame, one box was opened by the security agency.
2) class 10 card is good - works off the bat
3) BIG and HEAVY. way too much aluminum for the heat produced, its rediculous and probably why shipping costs a fortune.
4) LOUD. why do the fans not seem to be variable speed? It is really loud despite not being terribly hot.
5) too manyu cables. 4xPCIe is silly, as is 4x USB.
6) what is the ip address to reach the RPi once running?  EDIT: 192.168.1.254 on my network
7) whats the login for the raspberry pi?

You told us there will be a Raspberry Pi for every two units.

I got my ten Rocket Boxes today but there were NO Raspberry Pi!

I also saw that Pi's were not included in the shipment to minersource.  Not very pleased about that.

@roxsie please confirm this.

I was explicitely told over email that my order of two units would include an Rpi/hub/SD/power cable as detailed on the website. however, I was also told it would ship on the 25th and it didn't.

This needs to be confirmed ASAP - If i need to go out and buy an RPi to operate the units that is something i need to know BEFORE the box shows up. I would also be pretty pissed either way if one doesnt come with it since i paid to get an RPi with my units, which is a $50 peice of hardware that would take a day or two to find locally.

edit: have a tracking number now and was informed my box will include an RPI - presumably minersource got none because they are a reseller
1748  Economy / Collectibles / Re: (WTS) 2013 Silver-w/-Gold 1BTC Casascius coins - Toronto, Ontario - 2.25BTC on: July 04, 2014, 01:51:42 AM
2.1 pretty good offer... Not seen these actually sell for more than 2.  I keep seeing everyone ask more and lower the prices over and over....

There are only 700 of these coins, making it [one of] the rarer casascius 1BTC coins. I am quite happy holding them for as long as it takes to sell them at my price-point, which is competitive with others on these forums and perhaps the cheapest option for Canada

To be completely fair, Mike also mentioned that all additional silver coins will be produced on this silver and gold style, which will make the coin increasingly less rare as production continues.

There will only be 700 gold B coins compare to 1300 all silver coins. No more will ever be created by Mike. Heck, he doesn't even make ANY coins at all at the moment !

That's not true. Mike is still making coins by invitation only, he's going to those people who have bought from him in the past to solicit new orders. It's all on his blog --> http://casascius.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/orders-now-accepted-by-invitation-only/ . Scroll down to the question "What does this mean for silver coins? I expect that I will sell the silver coins, when available, only in mint tubes of 20."

An informed consumer keeps the market efficient.

your article is more than 1 year, 2 months old. have you seen any 2013 coins that are higher than '1Ag6', let alone a 2014 Casascius?

Mike stopped producing coins. find me a 2014 Casascius and I will eat my words.

ps: my price is firm - Im not selling single coins for lowballing prices. i may be willing to bundle 2-3 coins together for a SMALL discount, but nowhere near the 2.1BTC offer
1749  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 04, 2014, 01:47:08 AM
That whole MegaPIGpower bullshit I am hearing is unsettling.  How are they even getting that kind of hashpower with Bitfury chips?  ugh...

Their not, speculation and wishful thinking from Mega most likely. It seems unlikely in the near future they will even contribute half the hashing power each month that has been speculated.

But we'll soon see I guess :s

they can achieve ~0.6w/GH by underclocking the rev.2 55nm chip. If they repeated the design successfully on 28nm wafers they would be looking at 0.2-0.3W/GH when undervolting or 0.3-0.4w/GH at higher clockrates. The PCB design is absolutely elegant, with the design able to run MANY chips (likely far more than 16) in a series, or even operating chips in parallel at 12V eliminating the heat and cost of voltage regulators in the design.

MBP is absolutely the #1 leader in bitcoin mining, but they have been fairly quiet about it so far. The recent franchising talk goes to show that they are capable of producing more hardware than they can operate themselves, and their washington facility is not just a little backroom for testing - it must account of over 5% of the bitcoin network right now
1750  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 04, 2014, 01:41:24 AM
S3 is still too expensive, especially when delivery is not immediately.
I hope they will release coupons soon !

Damn guys, a couple of days ago we have talked about 0.99 as "super cheap, probably bitmain will never do it on launch", price was been even lower and there is still someone really pissed off

That was assuming it would be shipping immediately, not 10-20 days after ordering

^this. these are probably one of the lowest-mintage 1BTC coins made by casascius (correct me if i am wrong please), not counting rarities in the 5BTC and up face value. For a single 2013 gold/silver coin, there are something around 10x as many 2013 brass or 2012 brass
1752  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and 6" 18awg splitters - great for server PSU on: July 03, 2014, 10:47:37 AM
60$ isn't actually that bad with Swedish standards, high taxes makes most stuff seem reasonable lol Cheesy I need to find out if my current cables will work out for the S3s I've ordered, if they end up being sub par I shall be returning!

Also for anyone looking for a server supply where it's easy to solder cables I can recommend the HP DPS-1200FBA (need to find exact model nr to find them on ebay, example 438202-001, 440785-001, 441830-001). The big drawback is that it is only rated for 900W@120V rather than the 1200W you get at 230V. But it's 80+ platinum and a lot easier to work with than some other supplies I've seen mentioned around here.

thanks for the tip.

I suggest using 208/240V whenever possible. you improve PSU efficiency by about 5%, which for a few kW can pay off the cost of a 240 breaker and outlet with the savings over a few months. plus, power supplies can usually push an extra couple watts
1753  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 03, 2014, 03:01:17 AM
was told my unit shipped TODAY.

to be clear, i ordered this on the 18th, with a promised 25th ship date. It shipped 7 days late, or an estimated 0.09BTC per unit (7 days revenue at current difficulty and 460GH).

still looking forwards to receiving it, but this wasn't very timely of a release
1754  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and 6" 18awg splitters - great for server PSU on: July 03, 2014, 02:53:10 AM
How outrageous would the shipping be for 50~ cables to northern Europe (Sweden)?

roughly~
4 day tracked - $110
surface parcel (8-14 days?) - $60

shipping overseas is pricey. if you want to check quotes with other couriers, or to other countries, 50 cables is about 11.25"x9"x2.5" and 2.75kg (~6lbs), shipping from m6k2z6, toronto
1755  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 02, 2014, 09:57:21 AM
Two alternative setups for the gigampz boards: you can fit 2 16awg wires per terminal if you need to balance larger loads. I sell both the 6" 18awg splitters and 24" 16awg leads in my signature link

This is what happens when you use adapters with thin wires unable to carry a load. notice this is an 8pin ATX to 6pin PCIe adapter that burnt up under 200w load, probably only a 22awg wire at best. it even melted into a nearby fan wire.

notice the difference between the burnt-out adapter and the 18awg y-splitter I sell. There is also a 16awg tip from the 24" cable visible, which is a little bit thicker again.

Think you've posted this in enough threads yet?

I updated my sales thread and thought that an example of some cord setups plus what cheap cables look like after burning through may be relevant to this thread. #miningrigfireporn
1756  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ANTMINER S3 SHARES or HOSTING AVAILABLE on: July 01, 2014, 08:50:28 PM
so you want 1.35BTC PLUS power (another 0.6BTC/year at $0.19/kwh). Considering that the miner may produce 1.25-1.35BTC in the span of a year, if it remains profitable that long, this is a bad deal.

you want more money for hosting+power than the miner itself is worth. There are other options that offer hosting+power at about 0.4-0.6BTC/year because they are situated in areas where power costs 5-10 cents per kwh

back up to the top now that BTC is surging and these coins are becoming fewer!  *with every coin sold my price increases*
2.3BTC - It can be any from the photo while available. All 1Ag6 batch  full album here http://share.pho.to/5rC0W

pleas note that the paper says "Tuesday, Apr 29". This photo was taken a month ago but coins are still available

lots of these 2013 coins still available!
1758  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: July 01, 2014, 05:31:50 PM
^did this thread just go religious? hahahahah

pro-tip: there is no afterlife. your body chemically decomposes after death, along with your brain and the chemical formula for consciousness.

We should deal with ken in this life, not let him keep going on with this debacle
*religious opinion regarding souls and afterlife*

I am not religious, and my educational background has provided me with a scientific mindset - all animals are differently-evolved bags of protons, electrons, neutrons, and quarks. The decision-making process of a brain is entirely powered by a collection of chemical compounds and closely-bunched neuron pathways that effectively store memories and personalities as chemical pathways in a physical bundle of fleshy membrane. you die, these pathways cease to operate, and the body/person/personality/memories slowly decay into topsoil for the next generation to plant crops in.

bad people can die happy and without punishment for their wrongs - I say that Ken deserves to be properly judged and fined/imprisoned for his abuse of shareholder money and misleading information, IN THIS LIFETIME (preferably in 2014)

The 'dividend' address from mining holds only 35BTC right now, and the farm is shrinking in size still, down to 42TH now. That means that as far as it is visible, ACTM has about 100-110 BTC (~$65,000) worth of known assets, plus whatever assets (boards, fiat, offline wallets) are not public because he never bothered with a financials report that was promised time and time again.

ps: I consider myself apathetic agnostic, I do not beleive there is a god/afterlife, but I do beleive that having a moral compass is necessary in consciousness - now to get back on topic and away from religion

AFIAK my rocketbox hasnt even shipped Sad

its 6 days since the 25th was a promised ship date, with no tracking number or confirmation of shipping yet. Glad i only got a pair of them, since the remainder of my funds are now tagged for Bitmain gear.

We had ~53 on order for the first batch, Shipped this weekend (so late), But they are finally out for delivery today.

lucky you at least know where they are. I am used to bitmain shipping a day or two before giving me a tracking number, but only because they have elivered on time again and again (other than an S2 shipping two days late).

Not overly happy that my rocketbox is at least 5 days late, particularly since it was confirmed over email by alex on the 17th that "miners will be shipped out asap, may before than 25th."

hopefully seeing bitmain S3 units for sale will get the rockminer crew back on schedule and with some price reductions. Bitmain is offering cheaper hashrate thats about 30% more efficient.
