1762  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why does everyone seem to be so caught up in post counts, position, merits etc. on: July 19, 2018, 11:26:51 PM
I have found this forum a great source of information but there are loads of unnecessary, unhelpful posts which are seem to be there purely because people are trying to increase their post counts and position.
What benefits does having a high post count or higher position bring? Surely, if people were not rewarded for having high post counts, they would stop posting unnecessary drivel.

Money.

A higher post count and merit means, for quite a lot of users with bad campaign managers, you get more money.

There are some campaign managers that are great at managing their campaigns and keeping their participants from spamming, there are similarly other managers who literally just collect a large number of users of a certain rank and just pay them based on how many posts they've made.

It depends on whether the manager/company thinks "we want a few great quality posts so it looks like our company is high quality as we can afford to accept only the best posters into our campaign" or "we want many bad posts because at least our signature will be viewed".

So basically it's paid advertising and the more posts a user has the more money they can earn from it.
It explains why there are so many low value posts but it's a shame as it reflects badly on the forum. I'm sure the mods do what they can to stamp it out but they are outnumbered by the users so probably fighting a losing battle.

Make sure to press "Report To Moderator" if you find spam post. This will make the work of Moderators somewhat easier.

1764  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merits for Jr. Member on: July 19, 2018, 11:30:01 AM
Very good idea to ask some questions ;-) Maybe you should have a look at the posting history, too. Most of the Jr. with 100+ activity and no single merit are "great project, sir!" posters ...

That's why I do not want to look at their post history, If they have posted something good till now, then they have already got some Merits.

My intent is very simple, These 5 question will help them to introspect and make them understand the forum in much better way.
I will feel more happy  if my challenge can give right direction to someone.

Its really kinde  ,  i will post  on your  giveaway thread once i reach 100+ activity . Wish you the best  ^^

Seriously, You become so sure that you will not get any Merit till you reach 100 activity?  Do not wait to reach to get 100+ activity and make your purpose of stay in this forum meaningful.

< .... >

By the way, I don't know why you have such inclusive criteria for your merit giveaway contest.
100 activities and no merit will be accepted to join the contest.

This criteria is to help those people that are generally considered as shitposters bountyhunters  here. Sometime people need a push in right directions and afterwards they do wonders.

I think only JetCash has put efforts for creating "Fittotalk board and his other initiatives. (He invited all but they will be more benefited) otherwise majority of forum detest them.

I posted in Offtopic to prevent it from unnecessary signature spamming (as nobody count the post in Offtopic ) but I am not sure how many people visit that section generally, so making a awareness thread in this board also.

Edit: Read about my intent for creating this unique challenge at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4702567.msg42472311#msg42472311.

1769  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: July 18, 2018, 03:44:56 PM
Newb question: What is a hash? How is it generated?

Hash is an algorithm/function  that will  give a fixed size string when input of variable length is given . They are like "One Way " because from  outputs you will not be able to guess input (that make it almost impossible to invert). Instead you need to do trial and error with series of Inputs to check which input is giving the desired output.

Using trial and error will require high computational power and even a change of single bit in input , output will be completely different. It is quite rare but it is possible to get same hash for 2 different inputs.

Storing password  by using hash function in database will be most practical and useful approach because even if the site database is hacked then hacker will able to see the hashed passwords not the real passwords and they will be of no use to hacker (as reversing hash is almost impossible)

Bitcoin uses SHA-256 algorithm to generate the bitcoin address from the public key.

1770  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decentralized vs. Centralized Exchange what is better? on: July 17, 2018, 08:50:24 PM
Decentralized Exchange?
  • Coin Responsibility: Centralized exchanges store all of the crypto funds placed on their exchanges which can potentially make them vulnerable to hackers. Decentralized exchanges on the other hand often leave ownership of cryptocurrency in the hands of their users and simply act as a place for peer-to-peer trading.

I never traded in any De centralized exchange so I have question how exactly this work for coin transfers? If exchange do not contain coins how the buyer and seller get their coins?
Is it some thing similar like peer to peer transactions with escrowed  deals?

Examples of DeCentralized Exchanges
  • COINBASE
  • GEMINI
  • KRAKEN
  • ROBINHOOD

Can you correct your article for the typo.
1771  Other / Meta / Re: Application for a merit source on: July 17, 2018, 03:31:11 PM

Moving on - Wouldn't it be useful if I could delegate some sMerits to members like pugman, and then the admins could review the way he handles those to help them to decide on new appointments?

I am not the fan of concept giving Merits to user for delegating sMerits ( As it cause  half of sMerits loss in process.)
But I agree with your choices of considering pugman and seoincorporation and I see no harm in delegating your sMerits to them.

Once again my support for pugman's Merit Source application.
1772  Other / Meta / Re: How do I skip the junk posts? (also proposal) on: July 17, 2018, 03:17:17 PM
---snip---

Read the topics that are of your interest and do not go beyond third page for reading (unless it is constantly evolving thread like Wall observer  in which people post daily TA ,graphs etc). My personal feeling is  that you will rarely find a new idea or interesting comment after third page. If you think some post are really "junk" then feel free to press "Report To Moderator" , it will not help you at that time  but it will benefit the next reader. (if Moderator removed junk.) and somebody else also pressing "Report To Moderator" to make you reading pleasant if you visit that thread in future.

Might be Theymos give some power to some member in specific section/subsection   in which they can remove junk post on their discretion and their removal report will go to moderator to decide what punishment should be given to user for spamming/ or their removal of post is correct or not.
1773  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies are not the only issue on Bitcointalk! on: July 16, 2018, 10:40:37 PM
Look Like you got offended by Pharmacist but you need not to be. Answer is already in your post.

Its an open forum and i think we have every right to speak our minds- good or bad.

Just wondering, How you will take "TMAN" comments. (look like he is not active in Meta.)

Now coming to your post, "Meta" at one time is flooded with so many "Merit" suggestion /improvement threads that people ( Jetcash I guess) suggested for creating a separate "Merit Board".  So much discussed about Merit here that seeing one more thread created on Merit is generally frowned.

Now coming to question who proposed first about Merit requirement for becoming Jr. Member , I guess it was nullius in this post..

I found this one  also as a good suggestion and even I had created a thread.

Me too I agree. But, what if a reputable manager is running a Signature Bounty Campaign that turns out to be scam? What will happen? I am aware that each and every one is reponsable when choosing a campaign.

That is the whole point of this thread, If you smell scam, make others aware and get out of it.

Don't participate in the campaigns which are not started by
 - A reputed campaign manager
doesn't guarantee the campaign it promotes isn't a scam unless a few weeks they discover that its campaign is an indication of a scam.

the difference is only if the reputed campaign manager he is quick to respond.

You already replied yourself in second sentence and reputed Campaign manager is not a single condition need  to be followed.  Even for a reputed manager you need to keep in your mind.

Quote
3. Do not trust the bounty manager blindly even bounty manager can be greedy and promoting the project for its own gain.

1778  Other / Beginners & Help / Some suggestion while advertising in signature space. on: July 15, 2018, 07:14:10 PM
Altough we already have a existing topic that explain the Signature Campaign Guidelines but I think it is time for us to add some more guidelines/suggestion  in it.

The earlier guidelines were more concerned about the spamming in this forum but I think we are now facing one more problem on top of spam , i.e is adverisement of scams or (Scam ICOs)

Actually, I got this idea for creating the topic while reading the post of the Theymos in this topic .

Phishing is bannable. Probably everyone who wore it would be banned.

A simple extension may extend to promoting scam can cause -ve trust, even it is included in your signature only and you are not directly promoting it.

Let me put some suggestion for user advertising  in their signature space.

1. Check the links in your signature that you are advertising, make sure it is not some kind of phising link.
2. Do your own research before joining the signature campaign and do not join the project if it look shady.
3. Do not trust the bounty manager blindly even bounty manager can be greedy and promoting the project for its own gain.
4. Do not join the signature campaign that do not meet your posting habits. If your posting habit is of around 10 post per week than do not enroll in
signature campaign that ask for  25 post in a week.
5. If you already got some hint that the project is scam then do not keep mum , even you enrolled in its signature or not. You can create a topic in
   Scam Accusation board
6. Incorporated  Joel_Jantsen  post
Don't participate in the campaigns which are not started by
 - A reputed campaign manager
 - Avoids escrow
 - Hires shit-posters

It is our responsibility that we should not promote scam and help in preventing it.

PS: If you have some more suggestion that are not covered till now, Then feel free to suggest in this thread. I will in corporate them in this post.
Edit: Signature is paid or not paid ,should comply the forum rules.

1779  Other / Meta / Re: How do I reply on local board if I do not know the language? on: July 15, 2018, 07:01:50 PM
Might be a translator that know both Russian and English can fill up this gap.
But I think conversation might be in PM or outside the forum.  I  think posting on the others behalf will  not  be allowed in this forum and you do not want to post Russian when you do not know Russian.

Since it’s a corporate account (needed for my job), I would like to ask you if it’s, somehow, can be unbanned. I am ready to pay a fee for the ban or complete any requirements for the unban of my account Deshich (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1303427)

Now Corporate started creating account in bitcointalk and started posting Twitter bounty reports. Look like this platform is getting very famous.

Since you are banned for copy pasting and it is permanent ban on user, not only on account, so refrain yourself using this account apart for doing ban appeal in Meta.
