for hours .. server problems?
Tor works, but I can't get past captcha. It looks like a server problem indeed.

(have updated my signature) ... some tips coming your way.  Grin
I don't see it in your signature in Firefox, in Chrome I see if only when it's fullscreen.
If you've sent me a tip, I can't find it Tongue Which address did you use?

I did a quick research and if the article is not wrong then .tk domains are free :-P
Correct. They just make a messy list in my hosting, each domain also adds a subdomain.

Quote
However, after a year you will need to renew.
I haven't really checked, I might be able to extend it for free, or someone may be able to buy the domain right under my nose. None of that really matters, it wasn't meant to be serious, and if it keeps running for a year that's long enough.

Quote
That would make it just part of my normal data. A dedicated domain looks way cooler.

I would be happy to see a domain for OgNasty and Vod. Can donate for one cheap domain  Cheesy
I'll make you a deal: you can buy any domain you want, set it's DNS to loyce.club's IP address (107.173.194.194), and I'll add it to my script. It may take a bit longer though, as I need to add DT1-tracking for this.

Where's Lauda been lately, anyway?  I haven't seen the grumpy old cat around in a while, but it could be that I'm just missing his/her posts.
Vacation? Do cats even take vacations?

Quote
Theymos blacklisted Lauda, so there was no need to add it.
Did I miss this or something?  Theymos blacklisted Lauda from what, DT1?  I do remember the PM Theymos sent out to a bunch of DT1 members, but I don't recall that anything came of it.
A bit later, Lauda dropped off DT1 without any other reason than being blacklisted. The interesting part is that Lauda's presence on DT got stronger because of being blacklisted from DT1.

I changed the color schemes Smiley
17783  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Host-file to deal with phising site on: August 23, 2019, 10:21:58 AM
Allow me to quote myself, this is what started it:
I totally fell for the cloned site, until I realized I couldn't see your trust ratings.
I have added this line to /etc/hosts
Code:
127.0.0.1       bitcointalk.to
Now my computer can't access that phishing site anymore.

And this is my addition to this topic:
Someone who has time should maintain a list of these phishing sites, and we can encourage all new users to update their hosts file.
Someone already did that: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts (scroll down a bit to see many different categories hosts files). The one mentioned above isn't on it though, so I've added it by myself.

For historical purposes:
^ ^  Another post I wish I could simply +1 or "Like"

Please Theymos.....    Grin
Just 3 days later, theymos introduced the Merit system Cheesy
17784  Economy / Reputation / Re: mdayonliner posting: Lauda please remove red tag from Retina on: August 23, 2019, 10:15:32 AM
Interesting.  I had not seen that, nor was I aware theymos actually locked the account.
I don't think it was theymos. When you change your email address, you get an email on your old address with a link to lock the account within 14 days. I'm pretty sure that's what mdayonliner used.

I can not post in the investigations board can anyone
Maybe it's time to Recovering your locked account Cheesy
17785  Economy / Reputation / Re: Been out for a week, must have missed some drama - who the fuck is ekiller? on: August 23, 2019, 09:41:14 AM
I admit a lot of Turkish users don't pay attention to maintaining an up to date trust list, however, so if you like we can make a post on the Turkish section reminding people to at least remove banned users from their positive trust list, as most of them may not even be aware of the new DT dynamics or made up their trust lists for trivial reasons (like a nice trade from years ago, etc.)
I encourage all local boards to promote custom Trust lists. Let me quote myself:
Make your own Trust list
I encourage anyone to create their own Trust list. Don't confuse your Trust list with Feedback though:
  • Feedback: people you trust (or don't trust: red)
  • Trust list: people who's judgement on others you trust (or don't trust: ~)
It's entirely up to to a user if they want to include banned users, but they shouldn't be surprised if others exclude them for putting banned or red trusted users on DT2.

ekiller is a well known and liked member from the Turkish local section, where he has been active and helpful there for many years especially with his superior electronical expertise and fair trades...
Obviously I can't read those boards, but this doesn't have anything to do with being on DT1. I don't think excluding people for no other reason than retaliation is good behaviour.

17787  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUBS] Top Merited-Users Classified into 4 Clubs on: August 23, 2019, 07:29:48 AM
My account on this forum was a self-made legendary on and before January 24, 2018, before it even received 1 merit... of course, merits were airdropped to my account on that day, but my account turned legendary in about mid-to-late 2016, I believe....  is that right?  Sometime around my 1,000 activity level.

In other words, I am repeating a theme regarding giving less than 2 ratts' asses about "self-made" assertions.  But hey, don't let me ruin any fun.    Wink
Back then, any spambot could become Legendary, so it wasn't much of an accomplishment. And if theymos ever introduced a new Rank (I suggest a simple "Legend"), everybody will have to make it their on their own.
17788  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is Lauda still on DT? on: August 23, 2019, 07:14:58 AM
You're having a lot of fun with your VPS, aren't you?  Tongue
I was, but this isn't running on there. My cheap VPS turned out to be unreliable, so I'm not using an old netbook there. Once everything works, I can easily move everything to another VPS.
I kinda wanted a .com for this, but I was too cheap last night Cheesy The .tk expires after a year. This topic was inspired by all the topics complaining about Lauda, and of course by Has the Large Hadron Collider destroyed the world yet? Cheesy

Update
Speaking of which, how much for islaudastillondt.tk/Timelord2067 Wink  Grin  Cool
I guess I'm taking requests now Cheesy
IsTimelord2067onDTyet.tk

Small disclaimer: I only check for DT2. Theymos blacklisted Lauda, so there was no need to add it. Timelord2067 is 2 inclusions away from DT1, so I'll just add this to my TODO list.

The first .tk-domains will soon expire. I've made more permanent links on a new location:
loyce.club/Is...StillOnDT/
And:
loyce.club/Is...OnDTyet/
I'll still update the .tk-domains until they expire.

Latest addition:
IsFoxpupStillANSFWVixen.today (Link not safe for work, in case there's any confusion on that point.)

IsLaudaStillOnDT.tk
Updates 3 2 times per hour.

(I should really go to bed)

17791  Other / Meta / Re: DT1 with zero or neutral trust on: August 22, 2019, 10:05:09 PM
Thank you Loyce but what does the strike-through DT1 mean?
You forgot the "-4": HostFat is trusted by 4 and distrusted by 8 DT1 members. So his "DT1 strength" is -4. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;dtview

Quote
Is it something that can be like having a yo-yo effect where you can be DT1 one week and DT1 the next or is simply that was once DT1 but will never be DT1 again?
Some users have been on and off DT1.
17792  Other / Meta / Re: DT1 with zero or neutral trust on: August 22, 2019, 08:43:19 PM
Forum moderator Hostfat shows DT1 with strike through (as can be seen here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5176458.msg52211678#msg52211678) yet somehow he is still 'Staff Legendary'. What is all that about? Can anybody shed light on it please as I do not understand?
Theymos picks Staff members, and theymos trusts HostFat:
Quote
Trust list for: HostFat (Trust: +2 / =0 / -1) (DT1 (-4) 91 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP) (created 2019-08-17_Sat_05.04h)
Back to index

HostFat is Trusted by:
1. theymos (Trust: +27 / =0 / -0) (DT1! (61) 5035 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

17793  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core pruned blockchain: download it here! (DON'T DO THIS!) on: August 22, 2019, 12:04:41 PM
You do not need to have daily snapshots of it though. Even 6 months old snapshot would speed up the sync considerably.
Making one zip-file per day is not a problem. I've already set it up in a cronjob.

Quote
Would be even better if you could make a pruned and zipped blockchain available, get a hash of it, and some other users verify that the pruned blockchain is correct. (how?)
I tried that before, but the files on disk (such as "blk01117.dat") are different on other systems. It would have been easy to create a checksum if those files would be exact copies all the time.

this topic may not be appropriate in the beginners and help board. the warning part is OK but the walk-through followup doesn't belong here. it is best be posted in project development board since the only usage i can think of for this is mostly for developers trying to test things and don't need trust or security.
Good point, for developers it could be convenient to quickly have a pruned node running. Although some would argue that's what the Testnet is for.
I posted this in Project Development, but a Mod seemed to disagree.

Actually, it was opened in the right board, mods moved it here apparently because of the "Don't do this!" thing.
I wanted to make very clear this isn't supposed to be used for real funds, but I also believe in freedom to make your own choices.

You need to be Sr. Member to join. You have earned 5 Merit in 17 months. At this rate, it will take you 41 years to be Sr. Member. By then, a new spot may have opened up Cheesy
17796  Economy / Services / Re: Coincash Instant Digital Asset Exchange, Review us for $10 Bitcoin on: August 22, 2019, 06:52:38 AM
I think, unfortunately that it's not allowed  Undecided judging from theymos (admin) quote

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.
You're taking theymos' post out of context. It's posted in Alternate cryptocurrencies > Altcoin Discussion, and theymos' post literally starts with this:
Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections.
Altcoins with no value caused spam, Bitcoin giveaways have an actual cost for the person running it, and thus an incentive to use it wisely.

ask reviewers to post in this thread instead.
That would indeed be totally acceptable.

17799  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Core pruned blockchain: download it here! (DON'T DO THIS!) on: August 21, 2019, 09:07:14 AM
First: It's NOT recommended to download the blockchain any other way than having Bitcoin Core download it on it's own. Don't do it! Seriously, don't!

Still reading? Well, you'd better know what you're doing, you're on your own now Cheesy

Download a pruned blockchain
I've seen several topics about downloading and pruning Bitcoin Core. It can take a long time, and you'll need to download about 220 450 GB before it's done. After pruning, you'll only have a few 5 GB left.
Since I was playing around with a VPS anyway, I now create daily snapshots of the "blocks" and "chainstate" directories. Download the latest pruned Bitcoin blockchain, unpack it to the right directory, and start your own Bitcoin Core (I'm using v0.18.0.0, older than this may not work). Configure it to prune the blockchain and you're good to go.
It should connect, and update the blocks from there. Once running, you won't need to update it from my server anymore.
This should make it possible to get a pruned and up-to-date Bitcoin Core running in an hour instead of a couple of days (or weeks on some systems).

Which directory to use (source: stackexchange.com)
Quote
Linux:
Code:
~/.bitcoin/
MacOS:
Code:
~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/
Windows:
Code:
%APPDATA%\Bitcoin

While my VPS is still syncing, I'd like to start some discussion about this:
How risky is this?
You have to trust not only me, but also my VPS and shared hosting too, and I can't make any guarantees about the last 2. If someone downloads my 550 blocks and his own Bitcoin Core connects and downloads the most recent blocks from there, is that enough to be fairly certain it's on the real chain?

On Reddit, theymos wrote this 3 years ago:
This is massively insecure. Bitcoin Core trusts its block database files absolutely. /u/nullc has said that it is not particularly unlikely that a maliciously-modified block database could be used for arbitrary code execution. And even if that's not possible, all sorts of more obvious evil could be done, such as allowing the provider of the block database to create a special killswitch transaction which forks everyone who used his block database, or having everyone who used his block database think that he actually owns 22 million BTC.

Nobody should ever receive block database files from untrusted sources.

Also see: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory#Transferability
So again: don't do it!
17800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost Bitcoin Core wallet. on: August 21, 2019, 07:13:28 AM
Does the wallet.dat file get updated ? i am not sure why i need to keep making a backup of the same file?
Your wallet.dat will contain all private keys, and (assuming your new wallet is HD), your old backup will always be able to restore all your funds.
The reason for multiple backups is because your USB-stick, CD or wherever you made the backup can fail.

Quote
Because surely i would just install a new bitcoin core wallet and then synch it again and then copy in and over write my original wallet.dat file ?
Then I  can interact with it and stuff, receive and send , right ?
Correct. And I encourage you to actually test your backup before relying on them.
