1781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2024 will determined bitcoin fate on: July 30, 2023, 07:23:39 PM
As next halving gets closer more and more users are wondering about how BTC will react after this major even from its history.

I always believed that, on the long run, BTC will have an upside general movement. And as we get closer to halving its price also goes up. Let's remember than this year, on Jan 3rd, the price was ~15.000$ and now, for a while, it fluctuates around 30.000$, which is a double value. There are real chances for the price to get even higher as months will pass and, maybe, after halving we may see another ATH.

Obviously, this is not a financial advice, just a personal opinion. I, personally, am trying to hold as much BTC as I can and I only cash out small parts when I face situations which can't be solved by any other means. I never had the "weak hands" syndrome, to say so, so I am not afraid of it. Even if BTC will reach a new ATH I will still not be tempted to sell.

I agree, I also just cash out small amounts when I need extra money. I treat BTC as if it is a last option for me to touch when other means to make and get money is not enough or readily available. So, I feel the same about not having any thoughts or plans on selling BTC even if it reach a new ATH. Of course it can't be the same for everyone, but as much as possible it is best to be smart about decisions like this and think of the long term effects.

Money truly brings out the best and the worst in people. I do not have much tragic and interesting unique story that centralized money but I'm sure many will relate to me by saying that I have lost and gained friends due to money. It is a sad reality.
1783  Economy / Economics / Re: War: who benefits and how! on: July 30, 2023, 06:19:52 PM
In terms of simple logic, the beneficiary in a war can be:
1. The country that started the war and won. as a result of the victory it gained for example new land, resources, population. However, such wars were more characteristic of the Middle Ages, where the size of the country, population and resources played an important role. In today's world, it is more likely to benefit from a change of government in the country that has been subjected to aggression, to a loyal and favorable to the aggressor.
2. any third party that uses the conflict for its own benefit. Whether purposefully or as a "by-product" of its some involvement in a war on one side of the conflict.
This could be - profitable buying up of assets or resources. In today's situation, this is for example done by China and India in their relations with the aggressor country, Russia
It can be the benefit of a "boost to the economy".  For example, the financing and development of the military-industrial complex of the countries of the anti-Rashist coalition, which, in order to help the country subjected to aggression, are increasing the production of weapons, ammunition, etc.

Finally. I was waiting for anyone to mention the third party/ies. Admit it or not there will be a third party that will take the opportunity to gain something as chaos from war happens. It is a golden opportunity to gain without losing, to earn something without risking too much. Hence, I agree with you on that point.
1784  Economy / Economics / Re: Population: Economic strength or weakness on: July 30, 2023, 05:39:34 PM
Depends on how you use it. Plus it also depends on how a nation grew as well, any nation in the world, even the smallest of nations, could make a great economic investment and put itself to the right place and with some growing pains could become one of the best nations. Just look at South Korea, sure they got a lot of help, but they didn't squander that help and became a terrible nation, they used that help and now one of the highest growing economies in the world for the past decades. It all depends on wanting it, and that's the key reason most nations fails. It doesn't depend on your population or not, it depends on how much you are willing or not to improve.

This is true and great example on that. At the end of the day the numbers do not matter, it will all come down to the willingness of the people to change and improve their lives and help the economy of their country. So what if you have a lot of people in your country, it would not matter if all (if not most) of them have the drive to work and improve their lives and contribute to society.

Unfortunately, they failed to counter the picks of Team Liquid. They had nothing that can deal with the bear of Lone Druid. I feel that their IO last pick should have been different. Maybe a hero that could counter the lone druid. When the IO came out, I know it is over.
Those two matches of Team Liquid and Talon looks too easy for Team Liquid. Maybe Talon was too exhausted against GG and they didn't have enough sleep.

Anyway, we're on the grand finals. Both teams have already secured millions of prize money and I am looking forward to see this tournament being owned by Team Liquid. We know that Team Spirit is also a TI champ but it's a different thing that Liquid got more fans.

Let's go Liquid!

Maybe Talon's role is to just eliminate the big dogs of the lower bracket and pave the way for Liquid to win the tournament. They successfully defeated GG, the raid boss of the recent tournaments, and have been kicked easily by Liquid. Much respect to Talon still for going so far, taking home $1.5M if I'm not mistaken. That game 2 would have been different if they picked a support that is more active in lane instead of enabling and just sustaining the core. That Io pick really is weird IMO.
1786  Economy / Economics / Re: Building a prosperous business on: July 30, 2023, 04:01:34 PM
Looking at the current situation it is certainly not easy to make a business, competition in online sales makes us have to be smart, and if we focus on business then long term planning is important, if we don't have many plans and only think one plan then chances are we will fail.

It is truly a good and smart way if we have multiple plans as we go for business. It will be hard not to know what the next step is once our initial plan fails. Hence, it is suggested that various plans for different possible outcomes are made just to ensure that the business will have a good foundation. A smart and flexible planning is really a good tip in building a prosperous business.
1787  Economy / Economics / Re: What are some financial secrets that you know of? on: July 30, 2023, 03:27:08 PM
Since you mentioned privacy no one will share their secret here. Because privacy is yours alone. In the case of house construction, he builds his house according to his ability. If someone has enough money then he will never take a loan to build a house and try to build a house with his own money but the person who has limited money to build a house he cannot complete the construction of a house with the amount of money he has. Can build house with loan. It is better to build a business with that money than to build a luxury house. Because if a system can be properly wired then it is possible to fulfill many other dreams from that business in the future not only the house. So money should be spent according to specific plan without spending money unnecessarily.

I agree with you. It is hard to try and push oneself into building a house without enough money, you will always end up getting loans just to finish building the house. On the other hand, if you use the money you have for business that money will have a great potential to grow. It is really about planning everything.
1788  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason why you will never become rich on: July 30, 2023, 02:57:26 PM
(US based opinion)

Marriage  / Divorce and children were horrible to my finances. Marriage is of little to no value here and mostly serves the woman as a means. Then you work hard and become boring and she runs off with a Chad or Tyrone and you flip the bill and lose over half your assets. Heck the court can make you pay her atty to sue you!

Don't get married, don't have kids. There is no need on this planet for more people and having kids is just a societal pressure. If you change your mind just pick any single mother with 3 kids from 5 different dads and pay her bills and trash your time off.

Be single, have wonderful girlfriends and when they stall out move on. Travel the world, scuba dive, fly airplanes, ride motorcycles and keep everything you worked for.

You made good points but I think this is very subjective. I know a lot of rich people who are in a good loving marriage and family. I think it is still more on the perspective of an individual. If you can handle your finances well and smartly, having a family should not be a problem. You cannot force people to not get married cause you believe every outcome will be the same.
1789  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A weird belief among some gamblers. on: July 30, 2023, 02:12:12 PM
Superstition is real, if this man believe that sharing is game with someone else to bet the opposite can ruin his luck it's possible it will happen, it will only make sense to me if the stranger promises to share half of the money with me if things go his own way  Grin Grin. I mean what do you guys think? Isn't this a wonderful way to gamble too?

I read some posts about people saying they will walk away from him, I won't, I will give him my own rules and he needs to abide by it, if he doesn't like it he will leave, try making money out of every opportunity Grin.

A madman gives someone a lottery number and that same number open door for the gambler.

A gambler dreamt about a lottery number and it become a reality..

If supernatural isn't real why did all these came true?

Maybe a one in a billion chance happening and the bettor happened to just get it due to sheer luck? I don't believe in premonitions, clairvoyance, or anything superstitious, so my mind will always elect to say that it's out of luck that's why it hit and nothing more. If that's out of one's dream, then why would other dreamers win the lottery all the same?

The human mind will always believe what it wants to believe. It can and will fabricate stories of superstitious nature to give explanation on things that doesn't need any explanation at all.
1790  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Nonito Donaire vs Alejandro Santiago for WBC bantamweight (july15,2023 on: July 30, 2023, 11:25:23 AM

I think his career is totally over now since we can't see a furious Donaire as same as before. Age is showing up and that's the reason why he keep losing to much younger opponents.

I hope his wife will tell him that, he is listening to his wife and also a fighter herself for a boxer the last to give up is the mind and the heart, on this match his speed and power are not there anymore I hope he and his family will see this fight and decide to give up, we all want Donaire to have a graceful exit but two successive losses where he is badly beaten is not a motivation to continue, he is multiple champions, it has been a great journey after he won the title against Vic Darchinyan with a one-punch, fifth-round knockout (KO), the best time is now we don't want him to get badly injured in his next fight.

For sure her wife tell him to consider retirement but I guess Nonito is the one arranging a fight for his self then just tell it to her wife that he like to fight for some particular fighter. Its his passion so I guess her wife just supporting Donaire this is the reason why he still on the canvass fighting.

But as of the moment he got 2nd straight losses so I guess this is enough. Nonito need to retire before his career and health will be ruined since he can continue his passion by teaching new generation of Filipino fighters which have potential to became a world champions in future.

I doubt Donaire will go for another one after this, though it's not uncommon for fighters to retire after their last win. His camp will surely think this through and might even give him options to just let things go and hang his gloves for good. Santiago is not known to be a heavy hitter and his stamina is comparatively weak compared to a veteran Donaire, but I think the latter's age is slowly catching up, and Santiago beat him just by a short margin earning him the decision.

Even if Donaire's wife supports him in his passion, his body and age will surely be something that will not help him in his ventures to get that final win before retirement.

Do you see guys what I am seeing right now? Talon is on the lead and destroyed all of the barracks of GG (mega creeps).

9-29 in favor of Talon for the kill/death. The game hasn't ended yet but the lead is on the Talon on this game 3.

For the very first time, there's going to be an elimination for the GG and they're going to be out of the tournament if ever they will lose against Talon.

Edit: Oh, they called it GG. WP for Talon!

Talon is just the better team on that game 3. They chained their skills perfectly that even naturally elusive heroes like Storm and Morphling didn't stand a chance. Dark Seer and CW just destroyed the safelane pretty heavily, and 23 savage with Oli also decimated the top lane with their aggressive laning phase.

Even if GG is out, that's still a huge money to be had.
1792  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A weird belief among some gamblers. on: July 30, 2023, 12:05:07 AM
That is their belief and that is something I wouldn't take from them. They can be weird as hell or sometimes feel creepy for their rituals but if it works for them then good on them. After all we're meant to enjoy gambling as it provides us entertainment and not solely a means to just make money as it's a game of chance.
1793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: July 29, 2023, 06:19:30 PM
Mclaren seems like the only one who can catch him for the time being but that's not even that easy, it takes time for them to get used to the car they have, it is not easy to improve the car and expect the driver to be good right away, their car is even better than what we have seen so far, but the drivers will get to feel it and get used to it a bit.

I think they have a chance to catch up to him, but it is not going to be easy because Max has  the best car (I assume but also Perez makes it look like they don't) and Norris is not as good of a driver as Max if you ask me, that's why I think it is going to be pretty difficult to catch him and then pass him. Max will probably win every race left, that's going to be pretty obvious.

Norris has been doing great drives in his previous race. It'll take some time for him to be aggressive and take those early spots like what Max is trying to do to get that huge gap between him and P2. I think McLaren's recent upgrade with the car is good enough to beat Red Bull in a fine day, although that remains to be seen of course. But based on what we're seeing on the previous races, I think McLaren has a pretty good shot in snatching P1 against Verstappen every now and then. At least the competition isn't as boring as it was before.
1794  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino Slot Steamers on: July 29, 2023, 05:50:19 PM
I'd still play myself rather than watch some other people play the game for me - at least in gambling games. Sometimes you'll be asking yourself why you're not playing the game if you have the extra funds and letting other people's luck come through by watching their streams. I mean, you could be 'that' guy winning that particular role if you're only playing at that given moment in time.

Then again, they're there to provide entertainment and advertisement to the platform they're playing on, so you can't really hate them wholly as they're only doing the job that they're paid to do.
1795  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ADVICE]Boy Wins $46k from Sports Bet but Can't Tell Strict Religious Parents... on: July 29, 2023, 05:27:08 PM
If the boy is a Muslim then he's surely done for, otherwise he can just keep it as a secret and invest into something else until his money grows. Being honest does work wonders however that isn't the case most of the time. I'd rather keep things secret for a while and establishing myself in a position wherein any outcomes of me telling the truth will not put me into a losing situation. His parents might disown him because of his gambling activities and might even kick him out of the house, but at least he has something going for him that could support his lifestyle and himself.
1796  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Internet Apocalypse, Handa kaba? on: July 29, 2023, 04:41:29 PM
This is beyond our control pero super laki ng magiging epekto nito sa mundo especially now that we are fully dependent sa internet and almost ng mga transaction natin ay need ng internet. I'm sure matagal or malabo pa ito mangyari since we all know, professionals are still working for some improvements.

Quote
Ang tanong dito is kaya mo ba mabuhay ng walang internet?
Personally, mahirap pero if no choice wala naman magagawa, sanay naman tayo sa hirap.  Cheesy

1798  Economy / Economics / Re: The gloomy light called subsidy. on: July 29, 2023, 12:32:35 PM
The quick solution is the subsidy itself, long term solutions which could drive down the price of goods would at the earliest take a few years to show any results, however since politicians hold office for a very short amount of time they tend to not care about solving those issues with long term solutions, as someone else will get to claim they solved that issue when it was them the ones that solved it, so citizens are trapped in the middle and as soon as the subsidy ends the price of goods skyrocket, especially when we are talking about fuel as everything requires fuel to be made or to be transported, increasing the costs of almost everything at the same time.
Yes, it is true, this is the main problem, especially for governments in developing countries. They offer quick solutions to get rid of a problem, but in reality they create dozens of other problems in the long term instead.

They care about getting rid of the current problem but they don't think about what might happen next in the long term.

Good point and yes it works like that for a lot of countries. Moreover, there are instances wherein big problems are being covered up by another problem and then the cycle continues. Then soon enough these problems are push at the back of everyone's mind and they just forget about it. In the case of subsidy, the government (not saying all, but definitely a handful of them) uses it to cover up some lingering issues and problems. It's like a cover up.
1799  Economy / Economics / Re: How billionaires are really affecting the economy. on: July 29, 2023, 11:47:11 AM
~snip~

I agree to this one because I believe that this is the hard truth in itself. Everyone think being rich is rich and they just get the money out of thin air. Isn’t that is funny as well? I think somewhere in the forum I have read a nice article stating that how rich people are also tangled in the status maintaining challenges. They also have a lifestyle that they need to maintain which is ultimately built from the income source they have.

Indirectly they need to keep the business up and running all the time. They have to feed the salaries, keep business in operation all the time. We should keep down the debate that rich are happy every minute. :-o
Well said.

Before, I think many have the same thinking about the rich people. And that thought that these rich people just got rich and that's it. But upon growing up, we start to understand that these rich people didn't just inherit what they've got now.

Just like us, they've once became a dreamer and just reached it through their means and methods aside from hardworking. There are roots with what they are now especially if you look to the local rich people, you'll connect to their stories and will be inspired by them.

I agree with all of your points. Unfortunately, some people will always have the mindset that rich people are the antagonists of their dreams. It's as if they are to be blamed for living the life everyone is dreaming of and having the things everyone is working hard for. The harsh reality however is hating on these billionaires (especially the young ones, since I've been seeing a lot of them getting hate on social media) will not magically lift you up from your economic and social status. Raining on other people's parade will not make yours better.
1800  Economy / Economics / Re: War: who benefits and how! on: July 29, 2023, 10:51:21 AM
The answer is very complex if it is only limited to who benefits, we can see with the naked eye that Russia comes out as the winner of the most profits. However, we must objectively assess that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has a long and complicated background to explain. What is clear is that the benefits in the war cannot be felt directly either by the country that wins the battle, expanding the influence of power and exploring Ukraine's natural resources is an advantage for Russia in the future.

However, economically the two countries spent a sizable amount of war money to carry out their mission, if it was used to develop the country it would produce significant progress. Apart from the notion that the two countries are in conflict due to the interference of other countries, I think peace is better for the two countries.

In war, whichever country wins or has an advantage, that country benefits, no war breaks out without benefits. But I don't think Russia will be the biggest beneficiary because getting bogged down in war is something no country wants. Because it will slow down their economy and their country will lag behind the rest of the world, it will take them years to recover everything. The country that benefits most is the country that is not directly involved in the war but continues to sell weapons to prolong the war and they do not want the war to stop because the longer it lasts, the more weapons it sells.

Yes, of course the winner gets benefits. However, if you scale the benefits and loss, you'll find yourself wondering if the benefits found are even worth the loss accumulated. Recovery, as you said will take years and the mark it will leave will be remembered for good.
