The rubicon has been crossed.

RIP profitable hobbyist mining on 120V circuits.

I hear you there.  Sucks that the majority of the US is 120V.

This bad boy really does make the S7 look like a home miner.

Really?  LOL

Do you not know what a two poll breaker is?  Each poll has 120V on them for a total of 240V.  All of our dryers, AC units and ovens require 240V.

So that $40 I had to pay was in fact a "brokerage" fee by UPS.. thats kind of lame they wouldnt tell me that over the phone yesterday instead claiming it was a import fee set by customs.  but the delivery guy told me its a brokerage fee.. and only 1 of my 2 packages had the fee.

oh well, even the delivery guy was kind of perplexed about why it was even there

time to set them up

I'm wondering if this is a means of making an extra buck on UPS's part.  I mean, WHY a brokerage fee?  For doing what?
1783  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 24, 2015, 09:57:20 PM
Got my S7 today! And my first post Smiley  Been running for a couple hours and getting almost exactly 4.86 TH/s at default 600MHz...and has not had a single HW. It is using more power than I expected. I have it connected to one Antec HCP-1300 Platinum and it is showing 1,350watts with a Kill A Watt meter at the wall. The brief info card that came with it also said it uses 1,210watts and would use about 1,400watts at the wall with a standard server power supply. Wasn't it supposed to be 1,210watt at the wall with a 93% efficiency power supply? I was expecting about 1,250watts at the wall with my Antec HCP-1300 running at around 90% efficiency.

The red light is also blinking on the miner. Not sure how to figure out what the issue is, as it is hashing at expected rate as shown by the miner and the pool. I'm thinking maybe a fan problem. Without manually changing the fan speed, Fan 1 is always running at 4,560 and Fan 2 always runs at 3,120. Temp is 58-60c for all three boards in 23c ambient basement. When I try to manually set the fan speed, it doesn't change much. At 50% the fans run at 4,000/3,000. At 80% it is 4,200/3,120. My S5s work as expected when I manually adjust the fan speed.

It would be interesting to see others adjust their fan speeds as well to see if both fans are close to the same RPM's or if they are substantially different as yours are.  AND to see if they also have the red light you are speaking of.

My S7 arrived today, just plugged everything in to test it. For some reason I do only get around 1700GH/s although all blades seem to work.
I have a higher HW rate, what can cause this?

Edit:
Got it: I had to change the frequency for some reason. I set it to 612 and then back to 600, now it is working.

Happy to hear that.  I was just about to respond.
1785  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 24, 2015, 07:27:38 PM
This is after 1 day with:

Fan %    Freq     Watts     TH/s     Error %
 30         612      1237     4.87      0.023

Thanks for sharing...

Your S7 looks like it's doing well.  Previous posts seem to indicate the default frequency is 600; not 612.  Was 612 the next step up?

So if i get this right, if you did not get am email from bitmain your S7 would run on normal speed??
I get mine tomorrow so when it's up i will keep you posted.

Thanks...

Here's the whole thing from eligius:

   Hashrate Average   Weighted Shares
12 hours   4,803.59 Gh/s   48315904
3 hours   4,876.13 Gh/s   12261376
22.5 minutes   4,749.89 Gh/s   1492992
256 seconds   4,144.98 Gh/s   247060
128 seconds   4,590.72 Gh/s   136814
[/quote]

Thanks again for sharing alienesb.  I would be curious to see what your 3 hour and 12 hour readings are by this time tomorrow.
1788  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 24, 2015, 03:17:53 PM
I have 3 hours   4,841.11 Gh/s   average
12 hours   4,772.03 Gh/s average

Thanks for sharing.  That isn't bad.  However, it also depends on the pool you navigate to.  For instance, Antpool would always tell me I had less hash rate than Slush pool over a 24 hour period with the same gear.

Is this hash rate you are sharing from your miner status or from the pool?
1789  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 24, 2015, 02:56:46 PM
Also wondering if the lower hash rate they have showing up is another reason that the batch 1 sells were stopped until they get a handle on it.

I believe you may have hit the nail on the head.
1790  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 24, 2015, 02:55:29 PM
If the 4.66 TH/s instead of 4.86 TH/s is true, and many of us begin to receive a similar email, what would be a reasonable discount?

Anyone care to chime in?

Depends on the power consumption. Assuming similar efficiency I think they would refund the percentage difference (~5%) and offer a choice of a coupon twice that amount (~10%).

Let us know how it goes.   I would be surprised if you can get them to do double.  But if you do that is a decent deal.

Makes me wonder if they had multiple batches on making miners since some did not get this.

I have 8 hours of running the standard Frequency of 600 with an output of average of 4.65th/s.
1168W
10.01A
temp 41, 39, 38
Fan 2880rpm on both
110VAC
using 3 ANTEC 750W Platinum PSUs.

After seeing your quote [twice now] of a hash rate close to 4.6 TH/s instead of 4.8 TH/s, I believe the email received by the other member from BITMAIN is legit.  I believe they really are having issues achieving the proclaimed hash rate.  Maybe they will have it panned out soon.  If not, expect to receive an email soon for a discount/coupon.
1791  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: September 24, 2015, 06:18:22 AM
I believe that it is almost to permanently delete the private miner, remain only the big companies, we will disappear private, BTC is becoming more centralized, the price will not go up, it is now one year that the price is low, you will not rise more, its maximum will always be from 200 to 300 $, you do not expect prices from $ 400 upwards, why it does not exist anymore Cry Cry

Sounds like a statement to add to the bitcoin obituary.  It indeed will go up again.  We are presently still riding along the bottom of a bowl [So to speak].  Really don't expect significant movement to a new bottom of $250'ish until after Thanksgiving.

Agreed.  Either way... I'm happy to get new gear.  I certainly have not received such an email.  I placed my order on September 9th.  They may have it worked out [Back to 4.86 TH/s] by the time they get to fulfilling my order.
1793  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 24, 2015, 05:04:22 AM
They did something like that for the S3 (you could choose a refund or a coupon) but I don't recall if it was for any purchase or if it had an expiration date.

If this is true, it sounds like they are trying to do this at their own terms at the moment without mention of what the difference would be.  I'm the type who negotiates...  A 10% coupon is a win/win.  They get more business and I get more affordable rig next purchase.  Also, I could always sell the coupon for half price (5% discount) if I decided not to buy 14 more S7's in December [For whatever reason] like I plan to do.

I like the sound of the 10% coupon more towards next purchase; the coupon can be used on ANY rig and the coupon NEVER expires.

$1,823 + $47 shipping = $1,870  divided by 4,860 GH/s = $0.38477366255144 per GH/s.

If it's missing 200 GH/s x $0.38477366255144 = $76.9547 ($77) discount?  What do you think?

Dear customer,
Thanks for your interest in our product.
We're arranging the shipment of S7 following order of full payment at the moment. But sorry to inform you that we don't have so many units that with announced hash rate of 4.86th/s miners. Right now, we have some miners with 4.66th/s and would like to ship them to you, for the missing part of hash rate, we'll provide you some refund. May you confirm whether it is OK for you?
Sorry for the inconvenience.

do anyone get this message ?

What date was your order made with BITMAIN?

So talked with a rep on the phone and it looks like US Customs flagged 1 out of 2 total packages and now I have to pay $39.74 in taxes / duties / import fees.

She said customs probably overlooked my other package which is why only one was flagged

I didnt realize we have to pay these fees in the US, and what a bunch of BS that 1 must have made it through without discrepancy, but the other requires this fee? when its the same damn thing

I thought we're not supposed to pay import taxes if it's under $2.5K.

Must be nice!!!  Here in Ontario we generally pay 13% tax + brokerage + duty (if applicable) I'd love to pay $40 on an $1800 package!

I would probably love to have your power costs though.  I imagine you are paying no more than $0.05 to $0.06 cents per kWH?

There are no taxes above 2.5K either but UPS is likely charging a "brokerage fee" for the paperwork.

I believe you are spot on with the brokerage fee.

I've made several purchases in the past from bitmain [All of which were over $2.5K] and never had to pay import taxes/fees.  I had to pay a little extra for shipping because of weight not correct.  Only was about $35.00 but that was it.  Hopefully, I do not run into issues with these 9 rigs coming in soon.  They haven't shipped yet.

Just saw this on my tracking from UPS "The receiver must pay the duties or taxes due on the package."

how much do I have to pay?  Im in Oregon, generally never had to pay any duties or taxes.. but never had anything sent this value before

WOW!!!  I've never seen this before either.  How many units did you purchase?  How much do they say you owe in duties/taxes?

i only ordered two... im not sure how much i need to pay.. im going to call them

Thanks...

Please let me know how much they are going to want for the two you ordered.  Much appreciated...
