Hello, I'm looking for Altcoins with a long term run. Anyone ?
Welcome to the exciting world of Altcoins. May your journey into crypto be a productive and rewarding experience.

Bitcoin needs a war chest for lobbying against this type of legislation.
I say take a percentage of the bitcoin block reward (eg. devcoin) and send it to an address controlled by the Bitcoin Foundation. Do some math and make sure the ratio is sufficient enough so BCF has the resources to fight the good fight.
Put Gavin in charge with full totalitarian hiring and firing rights, along with complete core update power. I would also like to see a red phone on his desk one day that would be a direct line to Satoshi, who would serve as his trusty adviser.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
Community feedback is invaluable to the improvement and perfection of the Goldcoin network as we pursue our goal of becoming the #1 cryptocurrency.

So, I just read this article about Hayek, which is supposed to be a coin backed by gold and it will take on Bitcoin.
All altcoins are built and designed to take on Bitcoin. If not, they're setting their goals and aspirations way too low. imo Take Litecoin for example, its goal is to hang on to the #2 spot and that's one of the reasons it will fail. Imagine if Michael Jordan had set out to become the second best basketball player ever.

Cheap coinz!!!1 When I'm researching a coin, I'll go through the ANN thread and if I see the comments "Cheap Coinz!!!", "Chomp, Chomp, Chomp!", or anything like that, it raises a red flag in my mind and I will rarely invest in that coin. Definately a danger sign. I think there are bargains out there, but they are few and far between. Look for coins with active/innovative development, strong communities, and ridiculously low prices. Diversify across a few of those then work to better the currencies you support.

lol, I've seen this exact thread about a thousand times now.
Yes. It reminds me of the mid 90's when everyone wanted to make a webpage. Now there are more altcoins than there were webpages back then. Soon everyone will have their own personal altcoin that no one will accept or value. My advice, find an existing coin, invest, and contribute.

I was wondering if this was ever discussed.
I run a small repair shop and wanted to issue color coins as a way to manage store credit or technically gift cards. What are some pros/cons of using blockchain technology to do this? From my research the only viable options right now seem to be : coinprism / counterparty / nxt
coinprism - Sits on top of BTC blockchain. Has android wallet and site is mobile friendly for ios users. No built in exchange.
counterparty - Sits on top of BTC blockchain. no mobile app and only accessible via website. Has built in exchange.
nxt - Doesnt sit on top of BTC blockchain. Mobile app friendly for android and ios. Has built in exchange.
One issue i noticed with any of the 3 options above is: Even if you sent the colored coins to the users wallet, they have no way of sending it back or to someone else unless their wallet contains the native currency.
Thoughts?
This thread belongs in the Megageek subforum.

As long as there are people that want to buy drugs online, bitcoin will never ever never ever die. imo

Satoshi is living in a crawlspace inside Gavin's home.
Late at night he sneaks out and they drink ice-cold Snapple™ and talk about how they'll spend all that BTC one day.

In my view, we need to find a new Satoshi to lead us out of the darkness. These tiny patches are miniscule when compared to the real challenges facing bitcoin.
Let's face it, go ahead and admit it, bitcoin is centralized. Now let's find, and crown, a really awesome king to light the way.

The BTC hardfork is coming and it has been an issue with the bigwigs. So can't wait to see what's gonna happen... Shit could hit the fan.
The true centralized nature of bitcoin is finally being revealed. Hopefully, love can be found in truth, after all ... love is truth.

What % of people are into bitcoin/alternate coins because of gambling? Is it higher or lower than illegal goods?
Other than that, the rest of the people must be either trading/speculating or doing logistical stuff in the world of crypto's.
This sounds about right. I'd say most people that "use" bitcoin use it to buy drugs online, the rest are speculators/gamblers. Thanks Satoshi. lol

I think these wars are more about ego than anything else.
Yes. I think all wars, every war, all suffering, and every hurt is a result of unbound/runaway ego.

They hate the fact that he has the power to make changes to the code that has affect on them or they hate the fact that they don't matter in the Bitcoin universe or any other universe for that matter.
I think it's not that. It's maybe that they want people to understand that bitcoin is a "centrally controlled currency". And even more so than USD or EUR. Centrally controlled currencies are not inherently bad. And living in an illusion is a choice.

|
If someone decides to run a client without the new changes in it no one is stopping him.
Hmmmm. Not sure how well that will work. Community consensus is awesome in theory but if you look at the democratic governments of the world, in practice it's an entirely different reality. The illusion is that people can decide not to update. But the reality is, bitcoin is just as centralized as any other form of money. I'm not saying that's a bad thing if you have a developer like Satoshi actively participating. But that is the reality. We need to choose our kings carefully.

In non-technical terms, I fork simply means the developer (central controlling authority, aka Gavin) decided to make a mandatory change that will require an update to the client.

The Goldcoin Developers have just released a mandatory update! This patch fine tunes the difficulty algorithm making it more responsive to network hash rate changes. In addition, there has been an update to the default nodes that come packaged with the client. Please update now! >>> http://www.gldcoin.com/get-started/You should close your Goldcoin client, if it's running, before attempting to install this patch. The development team is currently on standby in the event you require technical assistance. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
