181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ulbricht To Be Sentenced On May 15th on: February 20, 2015, 01:34:19 PM
What do you guys think about his chances of appeal/entrapment? But yeah, they will want to set the bar for all future dpr's...it'll be a harsh sentence.

They arrested him with his laptop logged onto the silk road as DPR. He admitted starting the site, claimed he sold it to Mark Karples, then took it over again shortly before getting arrested. He would still be screwed if a miracle happened and the appeal jury agreed with is story. Admitting starting the silk road alone would get him serious time. If he gets off the murder charges and puts the finger on Mark Karples he will do less time, but a big sentence nevertheless.
182  Economy / Speculation / Re: I have 4 bitcoin What should i do. Should sell or hold on to the price increase? on: February 20, 2015, 11:53:31 AM
Instead of thinking about either selling them all or holding them all you might consider keeping half no matter what, and maybe selling half if it seems a good time to. If the price goes up you still hold half which should cover your losses on the other half.
183  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bter Hacked! on: February 20, 2015, 01:34:18 AM
Bter is selling its website and domain name, and try to compensate their customers.
Bter successfully got over the first time NXT theft and made all the NXT coin losers happy. From all the updated info provided by him, we know bter is diligently trying to find ways to solve their issues and refund its customers.

do you think they will be able to compensate the loss of ALL their customer by selling their domains?i doubt that, it gonna take some times before they can compensate all their customer, but atleast they did a plan to compensate the customer  Undecided Undecided

Justcoin closed after it got hacked then lost its bank. ANX acquired the domain name and brand rights to Justcoin, but I don't know if they took on the debts from the hack. Justcoin was in a similar position to Bter but I'm not sure if selling the exchange solved all its problems.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ulbricht To Be Sentenced On May 15th on: February 20, 2015, 01:20:49 AM
Just some few questions, what will happen to Ulbricht's Bitcoin account? Where will his millions and millions worth of BTC go?

After he was found guily on every count http://bitforum.info/t/ross-ulbricht-found-guilty-on-all-charges/223?u=angelo

Will his things be confiscated after the sentencing?

What do you think?

I don't think he will get life. Maybe 20 years, but not life for sure.

Not life but 20 years, damn man this is a life time the world would have left him behind and prison would have cracked him up  Shocked

His BTC etc was all confiscated from the start if i remember rightly and some have already been auctioned and the next 50k btc to be sold next month, 180,000 btc

How bad a time he has might depend on what type of prison he is put in. The USA has supermax maximum security prisons or sections of prisons for the most dangerous prisoners. I doubt they would put him in one but that sounds as bad as it gets. They will probably put him somewhere with less security measures.

185  Economy / Speculation / Re: New auction for 50000 btc from US marshalls! on: February 19, 2015, 08:48:47 PM
Does anybody know how many more auctions/coins are left? Or is this is the final amount?

They will keep happening after every version of Silk road is launched.

There was a silk road clone busted a while back that used multisig. The feds could not confiscate most of the bitcoins because they needed both the owner's keys and the exchange's keys to move the coins. Ironically if the legit exchanges used the same system there would be less coins lost due to hacks.
186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi donate some of the 1.500.000 bitcoins for Greece! on: February 19, 2015, 07:48:01 PM
Satoshi donate some of the 1.500.000 bitcoins for Greece plsssssssssssss Smiley

And next month again the same amount or more?

He should still do a global giveaway. What the hell does he need 1.5 million for.

He probably disappeared to avoid being inundated with countless begging letters and being accosted everywhere he goes by people asking him for free bitcoins. If you had 1.5 million bitcoins would you give them away to the members here?
187  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 19, 2015, 07:15:40 PM

i dont have bitcoin on Bter. but i have data, feather and qora coin in there. is theese coin secure??

Define 'secure'. They are there, they have not been stolen. Whether or when they will be released is another question. BTER have said they will start enabling withdrawals in the next week or so. We will see.

They said that "CNY and USD withdrawals will be enabled first in these days". That was yesterday, and if they really start withdrawals of fiat one of these days, then there is hope for cryptos as well.

The website's not changed in days and there have only been three bter tweets since the hack. The lack of regular updates is worrying. People would be reassured if they posted a clear roadmap of what they plan to do and when they plan to do it. They are not handling this very well by keeping us all guessing.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Huge BTC dump incoming on: February 19, 2015, 07:09:52 PM
People really think they can drop the price hugely by posting threads like these in an BTC forum? I bet this forum -> speculation subforum counts not even more than 1% of the BTC traders/buyers/sellers in the world...
This is the single biggest public BTC forum in the world. So, yes. Mods, do your goddamn jobs.

People wanting to drop the price hugely might be better off posting threads like these in the Chinese section of this BTC forum. Most of the trading volume still seems to come from China, so there's not much point in them starting threads in the English section.
189  Economy / Speculation / Re: And so begins the new crash. on: February 19, 2015, 07:05:40 PM
I'm really curious whether these threads are really launched in order to try to influence the price.

Given that some old-timers are making these posts - It might be the case.

I doubt theese threads are being made trying to shake down some holders to sell, since there is little chance of having the influence to big players who still hold the game.
Bitcoin price is quite unpredictable, and even those who are trading it from start have a hard time making significant profits, unless you have the time to play by the old rule,
wait for unrealistic grow-sell, wait for unrealistic low fall, and rebuy, but since those time periods are so far apart, many traders rather gamble short term trading than waiting.

cheers

I think the threads by newbies with zero activity are often launched in order to try to influence the price. When a thread's started by an old-timer I'm not so sure about it. All the posts they have made over the years have got to count for something.
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] RibbitRewards - World's first blockchain rewards program [Airdrop is now!] on: February 19, 2015, 12:04:39 AM

Public service announcement!

Today is THE LAST DAY to participate in the RibbitRewards PAID Airdrop. Its your last chance to be apart of the one and only RibbitRewards genesis block. Although the PAID portion of our Airdrop will be ending today at 12 midnight the FREE Airdrop has been extended till the 28th of this month.

The text "[Airdrop is now!]" in this thread's title is confusing if the airdrop is over and should be removed. Also, the OP does not state the airdrop is over but gives two links for it. One leads to your website which has no obvious link to an airdrop.
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: February 18, 2015, 09:57:11 PM

........

How IPO will work:

There will be a bot on TOX. Install Tox, make sure it works.
- you will message it with Skycoin address
- it will message you with Bitcoin address
- You send bitcoin, it will look on address for outputs and send skycoin

..............

Can we check how much the IPO has currently raised using the bot on TOX? I can't find anything in the OP stating how many coins have been sold or remain to be sold. Will there be a list published showing the investor's bitcoins in the IPO address(es) and a skycoin address holding the coins remaining to be sold?
192  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-02-18] CD: US Marshals to Auction 50,000 Bitcoins in March on: February 18, 2015, 06:07:45 PM
I was hoping they would auction all the bitcoins they have. That way we would all know these auctions are over and done with. As it stands they still hold a lot more bitcoins they will have to auction at a later date, which will create uncertainty in the market.
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 18, 2015, 06:01:38 PM
Lower highs & lower lows!

Bullish! 500$ next

The US Marshals have announced they will auction 50K bitcoins on 5th March. I'm wondering if we might get a pamic dump because of it. These auctions seem to have a big effect on the price.

194  Economy / Speculation / Will the US Marshals 50K bitcoin auction in March crash the price? on: February 18, 2015, 05:58:17 PM
Will the US Marshals 50K bitcoin auction in March crash the price?

http://www.coindesk.com/us-marshals-auction-50000-bitcoins-march/

The US Marshals service has announced it will auction off 50,000 BTC, worth 11.85m at press time, to the public on 5th March.

The auction will take place from 8:00 EST to 14:00 EST, with bids being accepted only by pre-registered participants. Bidders must complete the registration process by 2nd March to be eligible, while winning bidders will be notified 6th March.
195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculation Troll Rant on: February 18, 2015, 11:02:41 AM
I have read threads from the early years that were full of trolls. I'm not so sure this forum's any different now than it was in 2011. Maybe there are more members now, but the content of their posts doesn't seem much different to me.
196  Economy / Speculation / Re: ETA on the ETF? on: February 17, 2015, 11:13:25 PM
Didn't someone said Q1 2015?

That would have been the case had they not needed to update their submission last summer and then again in January.

Does the clock get reset back to zero each time they update their submission? I remember they made some big change a month or two ago. Did they change its proposed location out of New York?
197  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Vault of Satoshi - No Last Withdrawals since officially closed on: February 17, 2015, 10:54:30 PM
This guy was having problems withdrawing. He has not yet replied to the thread he started to let us know if he got his money. It might be worth sending him a pm as you are both in the same boat.

I put my fiat withdrawal in last friday(the exchange closed on tuesday) and I'm still waiting for a response, anyone else having this issue?

198  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Complete list of recent BTC exchanges hacked/closed on: February 17, 2015, 10:11:45 PM
Mt Gox should be on the list. The police say it was an inside job, but Mark Karples says it was hacked. One way or the other it's definitely closed for good now. I'm surprised you missed it out considering it was the biggest exchange out there a year or two ago.
199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Banksters jacking our tech on: February 17, 2015, 08:21:25 PM
I read that the banks turned down a new system that massively improved on the ACH system because they are perfectly happy raking in billions of dollars a year from their current antiquated system. The only reason I can think of for them to upgrade is if there is even more profit in it for them. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot by upgrading to a new better system if they cannot make as much money out of it?
200  Economy / Speculation / Re: What does bifurcation mean? on: February 17, 2015, 08:12:59 PM
I looked it up in wordweb, this is its definition

A bifurcating branch (one or both of them)
The place where something divides into two branches
The act of splitting into two branches

You can get the free wordweb dictionary software here. The only downside to the free version is an annoying popup you get each time you turn it on after the first few weeks.
