181  Economy / Speculation / Re: How will Ethereum's launch affect BTC's price? on: August 07, 2015, 05:56:49 AM
The devs have delayed Ethereum trading by another day.

Ethereum should have been trading a few hours ago because that's when it became possible to send coins to the exchanges. However, they asked all the exchanges to delay trading by 24 hours because they might have to roll back their blockchain. That hardly a slick, smooth start.

This is from Poloniex.

Ethereum deposits are delayed 24 hrs from 2015-08-07 03:50 UTC per dev request. The developers may rollback the chain up to 24 hours in case of an issue. As a result, the developers asked all exchanges to wait 5760 confirms (24 hours) to credit ETH deposits in case the chain is rolled back.Posted by OldManKidd at 2015-08-07 05:32:22
182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Rich List Whale Watching (One Percenters) on: August 06, 2015, 09:38:29 PM
There's a DOGE rich list at this link, but it says it's reindexing the blockchain and the results shown might not be accurate. However it shows the top address D8EyEfuNsfQ3root9R3ac54mMcLmoNBW6q has 17,850,000,230 DOGE which is about 17% of the total supply. It must be an exchanges address though, I can't imagine anyone having so many apart from an exchange.

Do you know the usernames of any DOGE whales?

Not any of the whales that exist today. The only one I know of owned tons of DOGE when it started off. He was a Chinese whale/pumper called Wolong and there were rumors he made 10,000 bitcoins from pumping DOGE then dumping it. I doubt he owns any DOGE now unless he's planning to pump it up again.
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Super Genius vs Several super smart devs. on: August 06, 2015, 09:33:14 PM
It depends on the type of codebase behind the coin. If it's a bitcoin clone it doesn't matter how clever or dumb the dev(s) are, the coin's popularity is more due to marketing than coding skills. If it's two completely new codebases behind two new coins then I'd go with the super genius because his coin will offer new functions that haven't been available before.

185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cup and Handle ready to propel price towards $400 on: August 06, 2015, 08:25:54 PM
We were promised the pattern shown by the red bit I added to your chart. It didn't happen. Why should we trust your promised pattern? Drawing a few lines on a chart isn't going to make it happen. If we go lower what's to stop another person drawing some more lines to prove that's the handle of a cup and it means moon?

People can keep doing that until we reach the bottom of the cup.

186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to Silk Road 2.0 founder Blake Benthall? on: June 11, 2015, 09:51:32 AM
It can't be worse than  Ross Ulbricht, the amount of money involved in Silk Road 2.0 is much less than Silk Road 1.0.

As far as I know Blake Benthall didn't have any attempted murder charges against him, so he's unlikely to get whatever sentence Ross gets if he is found guilty. However, apart from the murder charge he's likely to face the same charges that Ross faced. If he get's lucky he might get released in his old age, but it's debatable if he will ever get released. That's assuming he's being charged in a state without the death sentence. Which state is he being charged in?

187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to Silk Road 2.0 founder Blake Benthall? on: June 11, 2015, 06:36:59 AM
He was arrested last November. When he was arrested, he more or less immediately confessed to running Silk Road2 so the chances are that he is trying to work out some kind of deal and as a result there are likely going to be less pre-trial motions filed.

So my guess is that he will receive a slightly lenient prison sentence when compared to Ross Ullbricht? May be he'll get 20 years or 30 years in jail and he'll be out in 15. And I don't know for sure whether SR 2.0 was a honeypot or not. But the security was extremely bad, and a lot of vendor accounts were getting hacked there.

Ross pleaded not guilty so had to get the maximum sentence possible if found guilty. Pleading guilty like Blake Benthall would get a more lenient sentence because it indicates remorse. It also saves the legal system a lot of hassle so the trial will probably be over and done very quickly when it eventually happens.

Ross should have pleaded guilty if he wanted to stand the slightest chance of ever being released.

You say also on your website: "We create a new merge mined coin because the monocle blockchain isn't secure"

https://vertcoin.org/wp/android-wallet-bounty-merge-mining-and-website-updates/

Please update and develop MONOCLE further instead of creating a new coin!

Its quicker and easier to create a new coin because of the ownership and licensing issues with monocle, also who knows what state the blockchain is in and we don't need someone dumping massive amounts from the old blockchain.

What are the licensing issues with monocle? Most alt coins are released under an open source license that allows anyone to use and modify the code any way they like. Bitcoin uses the MIT license which is fairly liberal and so do many alts.
189  Economy / Speculation / Re: Slap, slap, slap! on: June 11, 2015, 12:18:16 AM
Ahahah, early adopters sure. L2T

ahahah definitely they are

not all of them, some have bought at 100 and sold at 1200, are those early adopters in your eye?

the true is there are professional traiders interested to the bitcoin market, expect more of those guys in the future

that sounds nice.

But Id assume it was a rare case for a few people.

I would assume they would sell while it was rising at like $500 ish and didnt know it would go much higher.

Most rallies have dips where people sell because they think the price has peaked. It's extremely difficult to hold your coins until the overall peak price and ignore the dips. There must have been many people who sold at or below $500 thinking that was the peak price.
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XDV] Divvy - sharing the global economy on: June 11, 2015, 12:02:13 AM
How will you distribute the coins? Please don't do an IPO. We had enough of IPOs last year, they cost the community a fortune and made some devs who abandoned their coins rich.

Yeah man, pump that dead coin! Great zombi-action!

For some reason i keep making money with buying dead coins on cryptsy. Keep it up folks! Lovin' it!

How do you know which dead coin to buy off Cryptsy? There are hundreds of coins on there, but only a small quantity of them are getting pumped. How do you pick a winner?

...

EDIT: I'm now trying just the active nodes from the block explorer.

...

Have you tried only connecting to the node from the block explorer with the highest block height?

You can use a .conf file with only this in it to connect to a single node.

connect=109.255.230.19

If you try each of the nodes below one at a time from the block explorer using the connect= technique then you might get past the block you are stuck on. Sometimes only one node is at the correct block height, and all the others are behind it.

addnode=109.255.230.19
addnode=98.115.147.74
addnode=184.2.186.230
addnode=85.24.169.215
addnode=72.65.50.158

This coin is in serious condition, how to get the full blockchain?

the ONLY way to get this working is sync from scratch, the ONLY addnodes I could find working are:

188.95.200.218
148.251.46.43
95.85.27.95
93.131.142.37
84.45.63.215
82.200.205.30

good luck

If possible could you zip your blockchain files and make them available as a download please? Anything the community can do to encourage people to get their wallets working again could help get this coin back on track.
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LiteDoge coin [Community take over] on: June 10, 2015, 11:12:08 PM
I agree to this

It's true that reward is too high but on the other hand it is something anyone would consider if he wants to invest in this coin. By gradually lowering the stake reward we can help increasing value a bit.

I also agree that the proposed gradual block reward decrease is a well thought out plan. It will probably be accepted by the vast majority of the community as the best solution to the issues facing LiteDoge.
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: the lowest of the low: camorra coin wtf on: June 10, 2015, 10:33:09 PM
i use to believe that we are involved in something projected to the future, possibly a way to emancipate us a bit more but this crap put everything down to the lowest level possible, where only vultures stand awake.

I am extremely ignorant.  What is camorra?  I've never heard that word before in my life, but I wouldn't get yourself all flustered, because I think most of the altcoins are just going to die off eventually.  I do appreciate your input above and I definitely don't support any of the things you mentioned even though I can't stand people.

Regarding your quote above:  I don't believe digital currency is going to do much emancipating.  When we can get paid in bitcoin and things are priced in bitcoin, I'll believe it.  But right now it's just too volatile.

The Camorra is a branch of the mafia in Italy. There was a film called Gomorrah which publicized the Camorra. Before that most non-Italian people had only heard of the Cosa Nostra branch of the Italian mafia.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt and the rise to the top. on: May 30, 2015, 05:16:59 PM
Anyone here that feels the SAME and has something to add to this lack of marketing ?

Its more to do with real world use or rather a lack of it. Its a great product but not something which is necessary at present.. The value you see now is purely speculative and there is not much need to have more than BTC as a speculative token.

It starting increasing in price as bitcoin stabilized, but it seems to be decreasing in price again since bitcoin started decreasing in price. All the marketing in the world won't help it increase in price if bitcoin starts crashing really heavily. I don't think it can rally until bitcoin starts really rallying, marketing or no marketing.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] Faircoin Dev team launch Faircoin 2.0 White paper. PoC on: May 27, 2015, 02:12:48 PM
Vote for Faircoin to be added at Coinomat.com https://coinomat.com/coinvoting.php
Coinomat.com offers bank transfers, withdrawals to Visa/Master card, and custom debit card for all the cryptocurrencies on its platform.
On top of that instant exchanges to all supported cryptocurrencies and e-currencies are available.
Crypto to Fiat liquidity can provide a significant boost to Faircoin.
more program details here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1053407

How long do the withdrawals to Visa/Master card take?
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | 100% POS | Assets | Names | Voting | Automated Transactions on: May 18, 2015, 03:14:11 PM
It is possible to hard-code values into ATs but understand as the Initiator and Responder would need different values we'd have to have two ACCT ATs rather than just one (at the moment the code is the same regardless of which role).

The next main focus for the AT project is going to be UI so we will consider how we can make the workflow and UX better as we proceed.

Have you considered testing your blockchain pruning concept on Qora?

Hello was inactive around here for some time because of some personal reasons...
With regards to faircoins lost to mintpal, can I still recover it or is it gone for good?
It seems like the link sent to me via email has expired... :/

There was a coin swap some time ago, so I don't know if its possible to get faircoins lost to mintpal back anymore.

Help,

My Wallet client has been syncing well for months every time.

Today, I restarted it. It synced then out of blue, it stopped syncing. Now it has been more than 6 hours, despite the fact that I put all the above possible addnodes I could find.

Try using the block explorer as a node.
