Faulty after 1 day ? not very impressive. Now what if the buyer is in Europe.

Yeah, doesn't inspire much confidence of their extensive "burn-in" testing...
182  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 1.6% rejected shares, acceptable? on: June 22, 2012, 10:33:06 AM
It mainly depends on your latency to the pool you are using.

You can lower it by using a pool with a lower ping/latency (IE a pool closer to your physical location)

If you're in Europe and mining on a US pool server, for example, you would have more stales than if you mined on a European pool server.

1.6% is a little bit high but still not that bad. I get about 0.7%. Anything less than 1% is acceptable for me personally.

Sorry OP but aren't you just "begging" for free Bitcoins?

Why wouldn't you just buy some coins yourself? There's plenty of methods available. Or earn some free coin as suggested already.

If people wanted to donate to the EFF I think they would do so directly, no offense to you ofcourse.

Hmm... I wonder if bulanula is associated with this company....

I know its just a joke, but you're giving him too much credit.

He would be lucky to be associated with ANY company.

I'm 100% sure hes just a kid still asking for allowance. Poor kid probably doesnt have much attention and must rely on forums to live day by day mentally.

+1, you're probably right.

As for the customer services rep being "undertrained" or "misinformed". You know this is total BS. They are only saying they will offer a refund now because if they don't they know they risk getting into legal trouble.

That's why "Jody" initially refused to refund irreversible methods, because they're trying to get away with your money because they know most people won't persue the claim further.
185  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL refused to issue refund because it was paid with bitcoin (via Bitpay) on: June 21, 2012, 03:05:43 PM
A few others had mentioned BFL not refunding for BTC purchases.  Caveat Emptor and all...

Would be pro-active of BFL if they more clearly noted that BTC transactions are non-refundable...
Then why the f*ck do they have a guarantee? And where was it stated on their webpage or the order form that there is no cancellation if you pay with bitcoin?

You probably have good grounds to take them to court on it atleast if they insist that they will not give you a refund otherwise.

Oh well. Looks like I'll have to use a bulky ATX PSU to power my two boards.
Just get 2 wall warts....

I'm trying to avoid that because that means taking up two sockets. I already have a socket for the Raspberry Pi and a socket for my powered USB hub.

Atleast with a ATX PSU I can power the two boards and my Raspberry Pi from one socket, and probably my powered USB hub as well if I buy an adapter for it.

get a power strip?

Thanks but I'm already using one. I'm really just trying to keep things as minimal as possible. I don't want to daisy chain two power strips either.

..., so I'm thinking we need to update the array controller firmware?

I think that too, something is really strange with the programming. It took me now 2 hours of trying to get it working again. Same errors as norulezapply and i tried also to first programm the fpga 3 and then 0 but the same error then on fpga 0.

Dunno why it's working now after 2 hours.

Two hours? Wow. Now that is determination! Tongue

Hi Sohum, we'll be happy to answer any questions at office@butterflylabs.com.  Typically, we try not to use the bitcoin forums as a medium of customer support.  Having said that, you're likely to get useful insight from other customers here.

Yes, the forums are strictly for trolling of other companies only.

That looks very nice yohan!

Would I be able to do a similar thing with a ~120W "wall wart" power brick adapter instead of PCI-e?

I would not recommend it as the 2.5mm jack is only rated to 5A which is enough for one board but not 2 running full load.

Meanwhile first sight of the power jumper allowing a PCIE power cable to power 2 boards in a simple fashion. This is also showing the lower profile heatsink configuration.

After flashing FPGA 0 successfully and about 20 tries trying to flash FPGA 3 followed by an INSTRUCTION_CAPTURE error each time, I decided to leave it and get some rest.
It's worth noting that that board is one of the early boards (serial number 4 I believe).

My newer board (with a later serial number, which i'm assuming means it has a more recent firmware for the controller) flashed straight away as per the instructions, so I'm thinking we need to update the array controller firmware?

Also I couldn't get the SPI flashed with either board.

Looking forward to some updates when they're available Yohan.

Thanks

Ah gotcha.  So really 3 of 8?

Yes, 3 out of 8 Smiley Gets a bit confusing talking about FPGAs and boards in the same sentence

you could probably use enterpoints cgminer build and not have to switch the SW1 #1 DIP as i believe that switches between 115,200 and 57,600 baud rates.

default cgminer uses 115,200, enterpoints build used 57,600

I've got 3 out of 4 running on MPBM now so no need Smiley
Can you post your switch settings?

Why isn't the 4th one working?

I'm using the "Normal mode" settings from the twin_test PDF.

I don't know why the 4th one isn't working. When I say the 4th one, I mean the 2nd one on my 2nd board. My 1st board works fine.

Okay thank you! I didn't know whether or not it was safe to change the DIP switches whilst the device is still switched on

You guys got it writing to the SPI flash too?

No,

just reprogrammed FPGA0 and FPGA3 without making this permanent.

spiccioli

Do you change the DIP settings back to "normal mode" after flashing?

You guys got it writing to the SPI flash too?

I've done the first part successfully but when I'm trying to write to SPI flash I get "Unknown JDEC manufacturer: ff"
"ISF bitfile probably not loaded"

Not sure if I need to change the DIP switches to the ones in twin_test.bit now? Do I do the first part then change my DIP switches to match the "twin_test.bit" PDF file ones whilst it's still turned on or something?

+1 for the voice of REASON.

This project will never fly as much as we all want it to.

BFL or nothing for me from now on !

Do you fluctuate your opinions on a daily basis?

Ok time for a commercial nugget. We have decided a few things here in response to great support we have been getting from the vast majority of you all.

The first decision is that for any Cairnsmore1 order already placed/received or placed before the end of June we will allow the same customer to place orders up to the same amount again and at the same price during July, August or September 2012. If by chance we have a better offer they will be switched to that and receive that pricing.

The second decision is that until the we reach 800 MH/s on Cairnsmore1 the offer price will be available for any new orders. The 800 MH/s performance can be by any available bitstream and that changeover is at our sole discretion. The pricing changeover will be announced in this thread. The post 800MH/s pricing structure will be announced at this point and not before.

Our third decision is that any of competitors, apart from ***, that operate in a fair way are welcome to take advantage of our silicon prices and have their unit built in our line. There will obviously be some discussion on the price to do this work and you may, or not, like the price but that is an offer essentially with no strings attached. You are welcome to use this offer or not. We believe that Bitcoin will be better served with a range of competing FPGA hardware solutions available and that is the spirit in which this offer is made.

Yohan

Wow, thank you for the great offer Yohan Smiley

And it's great to see you offering other competitors to use your production line. This is something that really surprised me! But it's great to see that you've obviously got some of the spirit of the Bitcoin community and are not entirely profit-driven!

<3

Um. Wow. That is incredibly generous and I agree on all points. Bringing down the MH/$ ratio with such an offer is great for everyone even if it isn't an Enterpoint board.
I agree. This is great for the community and very sporting of Enterpoint to offer such a deal to competitors.
