181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why wouldnt Bitmain keep the new Litecoin miners for themselves? on: April 15, 2017, 03:37:51 PM
to be fair - if its been used / "stress-tested" and still working, it will probably continue to work fine for its entire lifespan. most problems in bitmain gear occurs in the first month.

the biggest issue is any EXCESSIVE dust buildup and/or some wear on the fans, which IMO isnt a big deal unless you have a totally spotless datacenter

regarding self-mining; they probably are/were with the first protoype and small-scale batchs, but are now producing hundreds/thousands at a time and cant really install/operate them at such a rate. plus, they are profitable and will sell for the best price NOW as opposed to after the difficulty rises
182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Got a GEFORCE GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC From MSI in RMA on: April 15, 2017, 01:51:47 PM
the 1070 does around 380 sols at stock, and bumps up to 440 with minimal issues.

btw i have weird issues with asus gpu twweak 2 always crashing or not displaying properly.  msi afterburner doesnt see the gtx cards, are there any other good OC methods?
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Closed Air GPU mining rigs? on: April 15, 2017, 01:46:25 PM
Yeah I have and am doing so again. What I had was 5 750ti in one tower. No issues, now I'm doing 480/470 mix with Max 4 cards (most likely 3) and putting lots of fans in them. The wife would freak over my beast of hanging cards or my giant server.

750ti was pretty low power draw, less than even a 470 iirc.  larger cards will overheat a case more.

I have 2x 480 (8gb) in a corsair spec-01 case, and even at slight undervolting and TDP limiting, the case gets quite warm and they sit around 70C with 60% fans.  If they were open-air, theyd probably be at 60C with 40% fans

this is still for sale!
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Where to buy GPU in Bulk? on: April 14, 2017, 12:39:30 PM
I live in Canada and 2 of my friends want to build a 7 GPU mining rig with me like this one: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/11404/msi-z170-7-gpu-bios-setting-step-by-step

I am looking to get ~20-25 RX 480s and I am wondering where can I get such a large amount of GPUs since most stores only limit it to a few per person.

you wont get much discount unless you wanted 100+ cards probably.

try shopbot.ca its quite good at comparing most (not all though, it doesnt pick up canadacomputers usually) online retailer prices.

IMO, canadacomputers often has good deals and/or 10% openbox discounts. I got 8gb-rx480 msi gaming-x cards for $299/ea (+tax) just a few weeks ago there
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: TRULY Custom RAM Timings for GPU's with GDDR5 on: March 25, 2017, 04:29:47 AM
got some MSI Gaming X RX 480 8GB cards today at a good price ($300 CAD, with free download code for DOOM, plus additional $20 rebate) and copied the 1750 timings and 1220MHz/2150MHz to get around 29.5MH/s

should i try the 1650 timings next, and will it limit the memory overclocking?
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What should i take note when building a mining Rig? (What's Important) on: March 25, 2017, 04:26:12 AM
this is a terrible build for mining imo.

get 470 or 480 cards (depnding on your budget), and put 4 cards together with a suitable lga1150 mobo and cheap cpu
188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are you the best PandaMiner reviewer we are looking for? on: March 23, 2017, 05:01:10 AM
@team will you ever make the 4gpu miner described in the website...I'm waiting from the beginning to buy it.

IMO the people buying this loud dedicated device are the ones looking for as much hashrate as possible per machine. a 4gpu version seems unlikely - you are better making your own with fullsize cards
189  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 19, 2017, 06:29:52 PM
Really impressed with all the pictures and i would like to hear what their expenses are and their returns so that it could inspire everyone to try out making these farms, till now i thought it was a big waste of time and energy to build one but i am amazed by how many have built a farm and still i am not convinced how much profit they are yielding with it.

I bought r9-270 cards back in litecoin's last pre-asic hurrah for ~$250ea and they have probably mined about $350/ea after electricity costs to this day, with frequent (or automatic) conversion to bitcoin (and/or withdrawn to pay bills), and still worth ~$100/ea making almost $1/day

I bought gtx1070 cards in september for LBRY at about $680cad each and mined almost $200/ea within the first month. by now, theyve probably made about $500/ea after power costs and at daily conversion. they are still worth $400/ea and mining $>2/day

I bought rx470 cards about 3 months ago at $300cad/ea, and probably made about $120/ea after power costs so far. the cards are still worth ~$220 and mining $1.50/day

between the rx470 and gtx1070 cards i put about $2500 into hardware over the last 6 months, and have returned ~$700. nicehash estimates my yearly profit at around $2400-3600 depending on the always-fluctuating altcoin markets.  So over the 2-3yr lifespan it should make a healthy (50%+ profit) quite easily - and acts as a bit of a hobby. It can easily take a few days to setup, and an hour or two every week to deal with updates and fixing errors

oh, and the gtx1070 cards have SLI inside my gaming PC. so it makes for great gaming

if i recall, 1Ag6 or 1Ag7 were the last sets made before the government crackdown

looks like Blazed has offers of 3.5BTC on his graded MS70. I dislike the idea of shipping the coin both ways to a US-based grading company, so the buyer of this could be able to improve its premium via grading.

i mean - just look at the glorious photos. Smiley

Very nice coin klondike and can someone remind me why the edges of the hologram are rippled for this series?

they are laser-etched, so peeling the hologram would be way more obvious and not a simple job using solvent.

Nice coin you have there.  I like those displays, never seen them before, going to check them out.  Good luck with your sale, should sell easy enough.

im a fan of this slab - it suits the coin better than an airtite capsule and shows off the rim nicely

SOLD

Im putting one of my favorite coins up for sale or bid. Its the last set of gilded coins that were funded and sold by casascius. I wish the camera did it better justice, but you can see that its in mint condition within the slab*, mirror finish with no scratches or problems in the gold layer like seen on some other coins.

*coin was received directly from casascius, and I moved it immediately into the protective case while i wore lab-grade nitrile gloves. There isnt even a trace of finger grease because of how i handled the coin. The slab is not graded, so 'mint condition' is entirely subjective.

Blazed just sold a similar coin from the 1Ag4 series that was graded MS69 for 2.55BTC.  So I'm going to set my asking price at 2.6 BTC and will accept reasonable offers. offers of less than 2.2BTC will simply be ignored

coin is shipping from Toronto, Canada - insured tracked parcel to USA is not a problem. Escrow via any of the major providers is fine by me.
197  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: titan bitcoin on: March 04, 2017, 02:36:51 PM
This has been going on for over 14 months.

Todamont bought an unfunded titanBTC coin from a third party, threatens to sue, protect himself with a gun, and accuse titanBTC of securities fraud over a dozen times within 24hrs on a single thread

Don't come near my fucking house Tim. I have a gun, and I never fucking sleep.

My gawd when will the madness take a break? Cheesy  Cool

Rats will get a "burning sh!p sensation" around ~1450$ and will start jumping... but until then... there are very little 'cold feet' people. And at ~1500$ we will probably see a dump / correction for a day or few then go back up again. Smiley

my thoughts are similar. somewhere around $1400 i think china will finally hit that 8888 peak, and price will move quickly into the 1600 range, and then the bubble pops and it slides down to a low of $800 and we bounce around looking for stability at $1000

I dont see this being a massive 10x movement like before, unless the ETF succeeds and some other factor sends new users to bitcoin
199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 26, 2017, 12:55:45 AM
ATH in price is only one side of the coin. the other is market cap.

in 2013 the market cap was ~12B at its peak, and litecoin was less than $100M.

today bitcoin is almost $19B, and the next 5 top coins have a combined $2B.

cryptocurrency as an entire sector is up 8 *BILLION* dollars, or ~66% since the 2013 peak.

$8 billion has NOT been poured in since 2013. Supply in all of those coins have risen essentially people hodling = marketcap rising. I bet less than a few hundred million $ has been put in but essentially people are willing to hodl coins more and more as they lose trust in the governments and services appear that allow you to bypass fiat and spend your crypto anywhere fiat is accepted.

duh, thats how market cap works.
200  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Notice] Stolen Bitpiece coin - Public address to look out for on: February 25, 2017, 10:05:49 PM

I don't think that the postal service workers are targeting these packages because they contain physical Bitcoins. Sometimes you can just feel that the item being sent is a coin and sometimes workers are tempted into thinking that they're rare and collectible coins that can be sold for a quick profit.
To be honest, I don't think they know what the coins are until they search for them online at which point they don't realise their mistake.
Given that the coins have public addresses and first keys it would make flipping them more difficult.

the coin was funded, so it could easily be cracked open for the 0.25BTC without even selling the coin

I had a package containing an entire roll of casascius coins (directly from mike) cut opened by border postal agents, then taped shut again. At the time it was only worth ~$250
