If my computer spontaneously combusts after I've installed the GUI and I have my mnemonic seed, will I be able to access my wallet from a new computer?

yes
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Now that Monero's GUI is out, what will people complain about next? on: December 27, 2016, 06:18:55 PM
It's not that hard to understand, just look at the average computer out there and try to guess if it's going to be viable or not for the average person to be able to run a node.

And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. What we know for certain is, the bigger the blockchain, the more likely you are going to lose nodes/centralize nodes towards those with more resources = very bad thing.

Thus is it deduced that the conservative blocksize approach is the best one, and if Monero was as big as Bitcoin is in adoption right now, nobody would be able to run nodes except the few people with big wallets to invest on it.

? what you on about? you can run a node on a raspberry pie:
https://forum.getmonero.org/20/general-discussion/267/a-step-by-step-guide-to-running-a-full-node-on-raspberry-pi-2

that costs 45€ in my country...

an sd-card of 128 gib costs 35 pounds or 41 euro's...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ultra-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B013UDL5HU/ref=lp_1345826031_1_3/254-8813705-2427965?s=electronics-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1482862547&sr=1-3

so for a total price of 86 euro's you can set up your node, and the blockchain could grow in size by a factor of 12...
surely, 86 euro's isn't only for big wallets, no?

best regards

188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 900$ limit... time for alts! on: December 23, 2016, 08:42:15 PM
Sorry not understand what is the problem!?

the problem is that you are very repetitive... posting the same uninformative crap everyday... now, if it were some promising coins you were posting about, I wouldn't care, but you only post about scams (except LTC, but that's just a pure btc-clone, so not really much added to the debate...)

anyway, I'll just put you on ignore...

good luck with your scams, djeezes, leocoin... give it another year and it's dead...

best regards
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 900$ limit... time for alts! on: December 23, 2016, 08:31:23 PM
Look like btc limit was approx 900$... now time for alts to get some extra profit!
Now time for:
Maidsafecoin
LEOcoin
ETC
Litecoin
Xaurum
😎

What are your alts list!?

can you please stop opening new topics concerning the f-ed up scams you want to pump every day? it's getting very very very annoying... you've been trying to pump that shit since december 2015, aren't you tired yet?

seriously, do some research...

190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 23, 2016, 02:39:33 PM
I can only recommend to have an eye on the XMR/USD(T) chart.

link?
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: And another video: Changed my mind on Ethereum, Monero and Dash on: December 23, 2016, 01:03:43 PM
Interesting, good points, I really appreciate you took the time to share that obit33 Smiley

Glad to be of some service, if you'd like some more info about monero or have some extra in depth questions, feel free to ask them, monero has a very strong and helpful community:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/
http://monero.stackexchange.com/
https://monero.slack.com

for more info:
http://weuse.cash/
https://moneroeric.com/
and if you want to go really deep: https://lab.getmonero.org/ , very interesting though...
also the cryptonote-whitepaper from Nicolas von Saberhagen is very interesting: https://cryptonote.org/whitepaper.pdf

Btw: I totally understand you think xmr is expensive now... I bought btc @30$ in april 2013 and almost wet my pants thinking I was buying in waaaay too late... But I learned that if the fundamentals are there, and there's only a limited supply, crazy things can happen, so who knows?

best regards,
192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Monero - Marketing Team & Tactics on: December 23, 2016, 12:11:28 PM
Minor updates in preparation of 2017 news.....

I smell butthurt  Wink

but I can understand... the 'but but but but NO GOOOEEEYY'-argument is now gone...

hint: until january 5 you can replace said argument by 'but but but NO RING-CT (on mainnet)'

and maybe then until end of 2017 'but but but no multisig'...

just a few hints you know
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: And another video: Changed my mind on Ethereum, Monero and Dash on: December 23, 2016, 11:58:12 AM
Hi Marc,

I'm not sure if you totally grasp what fungibility is all about. Monero doesn't offer 'an extra' as you say, it offers something totally different because of the opaque blockchain...
In cryptocurrency, fungibility is only possible with an opaque blockchain, I think this post might help you understand better: http://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/1967/what-is-fungibility-and-why-does-it-matter
It's important, because now Coinbase accounts are getting closed because of coins that were used in 'shady' transactions 3 transactions ago... So bitcoin is not fungible today, transactions can be traced, 1 bitcoin != 1 bitcoin...

Scaleability: monero does have the dynamic blocksize so blocks don't become 'full', combined with the tail-emission. I'm not sure there will really be an issue with scaleability for the blockchain, since storage capacity is becoming very cheap: http://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/1917/dynamic-block-size-drawbacks

I don't think developers and marketeers should be paid by the network. The bitcoin-developers weren't paid by the network either and look how much bitcoin is worth now. I do believe in bottom-up grassroots-development, which leads to much more responsibility... Monero uses a funding system, where people have to make proposals, and only the proposals the community deems fundworthy are funded... this leads to responsible development and a sort of voting by the community.
Automatic payments can make the devs lazy, and can lead them to do whatever they want, they get paid anyway...

I won't talk about the other 2 crypto's because my opinion about them is rather negative...

I do like this article though: http://wmstudios.com.au/index.php/news/blog/102-monero-is-the-currency-bitcoin-tried-to-be  Wink

anyway, I wish you better luck with your further investments, thorough research is key imho...

best regards

194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero is one of the few altcoins that has been keeping its price up. on: December 23, 2016, 11:32:27 AM
I think zcash has some tricks up their sleeve.

  • trusted setup that can't be trusted
  • impossible to check total coinsupply
  • company behind Zcash taxes 20% of mining revenue during first 4 years
  • optional anonimity (while default anonimity is much better)
  • very young cryptography, not peerreviewed well
  • ...
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 22, 2016, 06:48:11 PM
A couple of hours after gui release and the price is back to what it was yesterday. Was hoping for a bit more of a bump up....

I understand, but look at poloniex, XMR is the only green in a sea of red...

ok except for the ZEC-scam... but that's just another bounce in the ugliest bear I have ever seen IMHO...

best regards
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 22, 2016, 06:46:50 PM
Windows users are reporting problems with the GUI on GitHub. The article at Bitcoin Magazine reporting only 2% adoption of Monero on AlphaBay was lower than expected.

Windows user here ... having no issues at all. Restored wallets, created wallet, sent funds, received funds, all good so far. Can you post a link to the issues others are having ?

same here, just did a first purchase from the GUI... went perfect...

197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 19, 2016, 09:31:21 AM
I have no idea how much vendors use XMR but unfortunately we cannot prevent the junkies and criminals using the best alt.

What is considered 'criminal behaviour' is very very relative in time and space, depends on who's in charge, societal climate etc etc... And yes, these people, whose behaviour has been outlawed will seek the best way to hide said behaviour... This is not something which anyone should seek to prevent, at least not by diminishing anonimity/privacy and thus fungibility in a currency

198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero's ANON FAIL ! on: December 13, 2016, 03:33:46 PM

You can not achieve world wide global general usage adoption by the public when you oppose the powers in control of FIAT.
Go for it.. walk into a major bank and ask them how they feel about Monero or Anon coins.  Cheesy

Why oppose them if you can just avoid them...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYD17h6hlCs&t=3m17s

anonymous e-cash has the potential to cuff TPTB's hands on its back.
Some people were able to see this already in 1999, others don't see it when it's right in front of their nose...

BTW, not saying that this anonymous e-cash will and must be XMR, but there will always be a need for anonymous e-cash...

best regards
199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero's ANON FAIL ! on: December 11, 2016, 07:54:24 PM

I've seen you make similar arguments in the past...The coin supply can be verified by anyone.

The "arguments" have nothing to do with verifying the coin supply.
I can't follow your logic with regard to the asymmetry between holders and non-holders. If I have $1000 cash at home, and I take out a $100 bill and then pay you for some goods, you don't know about the other $900 I have. Same with something like gold. You can't see the flow of all dollars or gold. What you do have is an understanding that the asset in question has value and scarcity. So it is with Monero. Even if you don't have any Monero, you can download the software and verify that there are X coins in circulation. So what do you mean by asymmetry?

I don't get toknormal either... He seems to have a whole monetary theory of his own, unsupported by any theory/history... I've given up on trying to understand what he means...

xmr is a great coin....

if you're a retard
HAHA

It certainly is, cuz even if you're a retard it's hard to destroy your privacy while using xmr, that's how great it is  Wink
