Why are you spamming this subforum with this ? 99.9% of us don't care that you're auctioning 2 dollars worth of altcoin.  Angry

Mods ?

In three days Taco will have saved his job and have not lost 25k ( I hope ) and I'm sure he's gonna be thrilled by all the responses Smiley

Interesting concept, well writen paper.

One thing I'm very sceptical about is relying on data from an exchanger, though. It's a big vulnurability.
1824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LTC] In ASIC era will Litecoin price rise or fall? on: April 20, 2013, 12:05:27 AM
I think it will be the same case with bitcoins.. i hope mtgox opens up LTC as well.

The same case ? You mean it will rise at times and drop at other times ?

I don't see much reason for a change in price. LTC seems to really like to stay around .022 BTC, no matter what BTC does. What exactly causes this correlation is a not clear to me, perhaps it's simply because traders at BTC-e and Vircurex keep it at that level.

Let's say there will be three times as many LTC miners in the next two months. Difficulty will shoot up, but, as we know : the supply of LTC will stay the same. More people will suddenly have filled LTC wallets, but will there be more LTC hitting the exchanges ? That would drive the price lower.

What would *probably* really lift off the LTC price is when ( yes I say when, not if ) mtgox opens trade in it. People just love quickly buying a new coin the moment it becomes available. It's gonna be a mini-bubble.

Hard to predict, except I'm sure there will be a lot of exciting things happening soon. I'm afraid LTC will become so hard to mine that even if it'll hit 5 bucks again most miners will have a hard time breaking even.

Nice guide, tacotime! I've got two rigs humming along that are very similar to the ones described in this guide.

I made a few changes that should save folks a bit of money.

1.) Use an AMD CPU and motherboard. The ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6 paired with an A4-5300 is a very good, cheap choice (~$150). The mobo contains 5 pcie slots and a 4 pin xfire power connection right on the board to prevent power issues caused by drawing too much power through the pcie slots. The xfire power connection on the board should eliminate the need for powered pcie risers, and allow folks to run with more than 3 7950s. I'm going to see if this setup can handle 4 or 5 7950s soon.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157339

2.) Install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 instead of Windows.

3.) Install the OS, Radeon drivers, AMD APP SDK, and cgminer on a fast USB drive instead of a harddrive. Installing Linux on an old, slow USB driver was painful, but a fast USB drive should work fine. The drive below works fine (SDCZ80-016G-A75) for me and is ~$25:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171647&Tpk=SDCZ80-016G-A75&IsVirtualParent=1

4.) Use 4 gigs of ram instead of 8 gigs. 4 gigs of ram works perfectly running 3 7950s on Ubuntu 12.04, AMD APP SDK 2.8 64-bit for Linux, Catalyst 13.1 drivers, and cgminer 2.11.4 using high thread concurrency (24000). Each gigabyte 7950 gets ~600Kh/s running at 1000 core / 1250 memory.

Take care

Good post. I'm interested to see how your planned setup will pan out. I build Tacotime's build, but if there are safe ways to add more cards then I'm listening.

You suggest putting Linux on it. I'm considering trying that out, mostly because it's easier to use remote acces to.

I have, and it sucks. That app is crap.

Hey, trying to stay out of here for a bit, but someone brought these cards to my attention and I thought you guys might want to know about them if you're still building rigs

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202031

They are AMD 7970 reference boards and thus have really solid voltage regulation and RAM, VRMs are all really well cooled.  As such they should all also have voltage control.  Once these go out of stock they will likely not be replaced, so grab them while they're still around.

edit: voltage control confirmed with sapphire trixx http://www.overclock.net/t/1378557/sapphire-100352-4l-and-21196-00-20ghd-7950-the-final-holy-grail-of-hd7950s

The BIG problem with trix is that it doesn't save the power settings when you restart your system. That means you can't autorestart the system once in a while without babysitting it.

Also.... why are you tryingto stay out here ? I really enjoy your posts. Please, also give us an update about your VERY interesting MC2 concept ! Smiley

Oh sorry, to answer all of your questions :

I didn't set a payment threshold yet.

I have been 100% loyal to the pool since I joined, no hopping Smiley

ATP = Auto Threshold Payment, MP = Manual Payment, Don_Fee = donation amount + pool fees (if applicable)

Hello people, we rewrote a huge part of the pool code, and we just upgrade it. It should work even better now, please let us know if you come across any issues! All miners should report correct in 5mins from now Wink

Could you please respond to the issue of getting very low payouts ? I'm new to PPLNS but not even making ONE LTC with over 12k shares seems wrong. Is the calculation messed up ? Whats going on ?

hey,
what is your threshold for automatic payout and transaction history say? also, on average what is your khs and do you hop in and out of the pool? ill try to see if  I can help you make sense of the numbers :-)

Hi !  I became a member last night, i've been mining for about 15 hours straight, I think. On average I'm running at 1,7mhash/sec. I've just been payed out for the last block : submitted 17k valid shares and only got less then a whole LTC, while I should have gotten 3 or 4.

here's a copy/paste from the site.

I just joined up. Your site looks nice and I'm getting almost ZERO stales. Nice !

One question though... my miner has been blasting away all night ( yes it sounds like that, unfortunatly I have to sleep very close to it. I dream of aircraft carriers ) But I only mined 0.7 LTC ! With 1.6Mhash/sec. I got more then 6k shares in.

Shouldn't I have gotten more LTC mined ? I'm used to using PPS, so maybe it's variance.

I'm also consistantly getting a lower hashrate on the coinotron website that what guiminer-script is reporting. It pretty much cut my prifit in half today.

What's causing this, is it fixable, how and when ?

If this doesn't get fixed i'll take my workers elsewhere.

Count me in.

Have you considered starting a project on a crowd funding site like kickstarter ? With all the news around BTC at the moment I think you could get a large amount of funding rather easily.

Ever think how funny it is that BTC founder(s) remain anonymous and it is getting major corporations support - no change from the status quo - the rich win?

What major corporations ?
1840  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: FAQ for bitcoin newbies who think mining is free money? on: April 06, 2013, 06:08:57 PM
I disagree.

Financially It may not be very rewarding, but you can make small profits. If you like messing with software and hardware, have patience and are not afraid to lose some money, it's a fun hobby.

And the more people that contribute hashing power, the safer these coins get. You can do that and buy coins, ecourage acceptance and build the economy at the same time.
