The Literary Society in CryptoTown

Lately, SCI has been needed in a few advances:
- 5,000 SCI to build 6-horse carriages
- 5,000 SCI to have the training center for horses
- 5,000 SCI for making "silver water" (ormus silver vodka with health benefits)

Starting the Royal Mint did not require SCI because the minting press was based on a very old technology. Completely different it is with the Printing Press though. 10,000 SCI is required for procuring and learning how to operate it.

If the SCI is spent, the resulting capability would be 2 book issues per year, normal size (big books will be in several volumes). The print run will not be the limiting factor, hundreds of copies can be made at almost the same difficulty (cost) as tens. Therefore, the likely result in the first decades will be to print mainly to stock, hoping that the future generations will find value in our efforts, by buying the books. They are durable though Smiley

The operating team would cost 30 mil/year and the facilities needed for the production are rather modest. To showcase the importance of literacy in the Kingdom, the premises will be made opulent, containing the public library as well. The King's suggestion for the lot is 3-E-F2, in the University borough where books are needed the most, and where SCI establishment will soon start to receive a significant bonus.

The Society would be a joint-stock company, with all the ones who contribute money, land or SCI, are given the shares based on the contribution. The Members (shareholders) would also register for the standing order, and receive X copies of everything fresh from print. (This is sold as a one-time offer - to get all future issues perpetually in X copies). When large numbers of new players join in, they will be able to buy the books from the bookstore one by one.

This is an offer for those who truly trust in the glorious future of Crypto Kingdom. The books now printed will either be invaluable treasures in 100-200 years, or worthless and forgotten.

For 5 SCI, you get 1 share (10,000 SCI needed, OZ has promised half)
For 1 mil, you get 1 share (1,000-1,500 mil needed)
The perpetual standing order to get all the books printed by the society forever, in 1 copy: 35 mil <- 7 shares bonus!
The perpetual standing order to get all the books printed by the society forever, in 2 copies: 60 mil <- 12 shares bonus!
The perpetual standing order to get all the books printed by the society forever, in 5 copies: 100 mil <- 20 shares bonus!
The perpetual standing order to get all the books printed by the society forever, in 10 copies: 140 mil <- 28 shares bonus!
The perpetual standing order to get all the books printed by the society forever, in 20 copies: 200 mil <- 40 shares bonus!

Books are excellent gifts (as are wine bottles... Wink )

As for we, the King - we see great value in being able to get all the books in many enough copies to our libraries. Also we offer the well located lot that is suitable for a peaceful haven of learnedness (600 mil for 20 q), and already the Royal Architects have made plans of zoning the perimeter of the lot to be very compact townhouses in the sub-100 mil price category to be rented or sold for income to the Society. If other providers of SCI don't show up, we can contribute some of it as well.

I may sound like beating the same drum day after day, but...

...have you considered the investment opportunities CK offers? For instance just now, there is a Town bond auction, and the bonds are paying 72% per real year, and they are denominated in XMR. Since the Town has the right to tax characters, the only way it could not pay is that it does not exist ie. the game has folded in the next 50 weeks. But the game has existed for ~48 weeks already!! What is the probability that it would cease existence now? In my opinion it is much less than the interest rate indicates.

The game gold is paying on average 0.5% per week, which is not bad, unless you compare it with the monster dividend payers ingame like RWWC that has paid about 10% dividend per week lately.

It is all cool to buy XMR and store it securely and do nothing and hope it miraculously goes up, but even much more fun is to play with it and be the vehicle that causes it to go up through real-world adoption! Smiley

OZ bids:
20 @ 58

A lot of money sloshing around (the aggregate m balance of non-town, non-pool, non-King balances has increased from 25 bil to 40 bil in 2 weeks...). Let's add the following bids to the equation:

3 @ 65 Soul
2 @ 64 Sarajas
2 @ 63 HS-S
1 @ 62 Jungherr Paul
2 @ 61 Sarajas
3 @ 60 Soul
1 @ 59 nikke1
6 @ 58 OZ
-----------------------------
20 units will be issued at 58 mil each (72% total, 1.1% APR)

ADD: And the chapelry auction price is decreasing irresistibly: 1,494 mil. I would be very surprised if tomorrow this time all the chapelries remain unsold...

was able

Tavastia may be all kinds of pussy, but at least he thinks himself to be an able merchant... secretly resolved to show the Prince off, he tries to obtain the IC necessary to stock up with 5,000 bottles of the coveted W1604 wine.

Unable to find enough eligible buildings to repair, he has to contend with having 3,000 bottles for sale. At least he derives sick pleasure from being able to lower the price to 0.034 each. For some reason, Tavastia seems to dig himself deeper in the hole with the offering, though... his balance is already down -745 mil from the start of the year.

As long as we don't break that uptrend line at 190k-191k, I am not worried.

Do you get worried if we break it?  Roll Eyes

Tavastia has restocked with wine

Saddam went to do his weekly stock up but noticed that 1000 W1604 have mysteriously disappeared from Tavastia's supply, and can't seem to find who might have purchased them! Hmm...

Tavastia's supply was depleted quick, but he did not lose heart. It seemed that the Better Hive in 1-N and Zechariah's Guesthouse (the original from 1470) in 1-W were in dire need of structural repair (only Tavastia is bold enough to keep a building in use when it is 0.41...)

With the IC + some of his m stash, the wine + liquor supply of the merchant now measures 6,000 bottles, surpassing even that of the Prince of Ramsey himself (5,000 bottles)!

Prices are of course unchanged Smiley

Tavastia has restocked with wine

Tavastia is seeking hard to establish a reputation as a merchant who is selling the cheap wine cheaply, while also stocking the rarities at reasonable prices. The price-gougers have been driven off the market upon our restocking:

W1601 - an average quality 9-12/20 ready-to-drink French grape wine at 0.035 per bottle!
W1604 - ready-for-cellar new wine still affordable at château, with some luck this will develop to be an excellent wine over 1-2 decades, 0.035/btl
W1603A - the favorite of everyone, pre-earthquake, 18-20/20, now at 0.350/btl

- and 6 other drinks at best rates! -

(The Original Hive 2/2 was refurbished with the previous furniture sold to be able to procure these wines.)

Game announcement regarding drinks

To make the database more coherent, all the "staple" spirituous drinks such as VOD, CVS, have been given the production year as well as the "special" ones already do. This also means that when a new batch becomes available, it will be a separate code - there is no distinction between "staple" and "special" from now on.

/WINE tab updated

To find the essential information when planning your purchases, it is tiresome to go to /ITEMS and /F_OWN and back. The basic information, quality and price of all wines and stronger drinks can be found on one glance from this mirror page! (Actual purchasing happens in /F_OWN & /T_MON.)

Please bookmark the devthread, where all the latest updates of the technical development are posted. Let's keep this thread more to the game itself!

Monero is just getting another dev funded, its been great following the developments here too.

I saw the heartwarming discussion with for instance user "pa" donating towards the project.

We in the CK thread should not forget that the same user incarnated in our world as Rhadamanthus, later the Earl and Marquess of Arda. When he died, his properties were mostly willed for Monero development, and they are now managed by smooth, under Monero House. Whenever there are development projects that benefit from a cash injection, I encourage smooth to spend from the treasure, according to the guidelines agreed among the other devs of course. I know that the late Marquess wanted the money to benefit the development.

Monero House has 10,381 gold and 1,200+ XMR.

Borough 6 is opened and in Dutch auction!

Quote
Borough 6 is the first new land to be opened since 1580 (early Feb-2015)
It is the first time all the chapelries, including the C chapelry, are sold.
Method for selling is Dutch auction, meaning that a chapelry is sold to the
first taker, and the price asked is constantly decreasing.
In the long term, the Town aims to keep (the least-wanted) chapelries
always for sale at the minimum price of 1000 mil. The reason why you
might want to pay more in the auction phase is to get a desirable location
(south, or center), or large stone deposits (NE, C, E, S or more).

The land in B.6 is good for construction, flat throughout. Town has promised
to make a road there via 2-N. The road goes to TIE square in 2-C and
passes the House of Magnificence. It is directly possible to turn west
and go to France, our main trading partner, or east to the Old Town.

There are no restrictions for quarrying, building, holding, zoning, and no
extra tax (only "land tax" is based on floorsqm, so free holding of land!)

After 7 real-month break we have whole chapelries for sale now! Check the particulars + the current price in the /Q3 tab almost in the beginning of the Game DB.

Town Long Bond 1655

Make real world return for your moneros! Town issues a promise to pay 20*100 mil in 1655 (2016-09-04). Last time these were auctioned, the interest rate was 82%!  Shocked

This auction lasts for ~4 days, closing 1 hour after the chapelry auction has reached 1,000 mil.

Just a reminder that this auction is soon getting interesting. As we speak, the price of all chapelries in B.6 has crossed 1,600 mil. It is getting cheaper in 0.1 mil increments at a rate of 10 mil / realhour.

The town is seeking to long-term always have chapelries available for buyers at 1,000 mil. This does not mean that all chapelries could be had for that price, as the ones for sale in B's 6, 8 and 9 are the last ones in the "first circle" around Old Town. This is the reason why new land always comes with a dutch auction - to determine the value of the premium lots, after which the rest will be available "in stock".

The long bond is competing for your money. In my evaluation, the situations since the last long bond (50 realweeks) was sold at 55/100 yielding 82% has changed, because now we have a proven software. So it should be bid higher, considering that the opportunity cost of XMR is zero and our arguably the most delicate year (first) is behind. But market decides.

Quote
If you want to be positioned for a stellar future and userbase growth, buy gold.

If you want to be positioned for a nice future and userbase growth, buy first-ring chapelries.

If you want to be positioned for a decent future and userbase growth, buy rarities and collectibles.

If you want to be positioned for a sluggish future and userbase growth, buy bonds.

If you want to be positioned for a failure, thin your portfolio from all sides and cash out partially.

Also Zenon is busy with making ready the Medicine of Life, as now it is needed.

Not too long after letting the above be cried out loud in every square, I was peacefully enjoying a cigar in the fertile grounds of the Summer Palace. Since I like warm, the south facing gardens suit me better than those of the Royal Palace, which are to the north, and therefore overshadowed by the building itself. Only the chatter of the workmen in the nearby Windows Works is trespassing the tranquility. "Well, if we live - Versailles construction will start soon and there we can find rest outside of the busy town..."

Zenon, Life and Silver

Zenon appears in front of our royal presence. In the early years his appearances were shrouded with mystery, now it was like an old friend stopping by.

Zenon is indeed old, his age was "more than 1,000 years" when coming to the Kingdom, and that happened about 200 years ago already. He had explained that he was "cursed to be immortal" or something, based on some encounters with other wizards, spirits or gods, in his earlier years. All this had fallen from my memory as the labors of the present age, "cursed to be mortal", had burdened the mental faculty.

He had the youthful twinkle in his eyes, though, when he uttered: "Funny that you just now decided to publish it - the firstfruits of my years-long search for Life were almost ready and... just between friends, I can unlock them for a mere 5,000 SCI! Is it not funny that I spend my time searching for eternal life - I who myself would be happy to feel the weight in my limbs..."

This will leave only 5,000 SCI for the printing press and other works, but it is unthinkable to reject Life for opportunity gains in technology.
- OK.

Zenon explains:
Since silver became in active use in the Kingdom 5 years ago, of course living conditions degraded rapidly. But the correlation between ownership of silver and protection from diseases is clear. So I indulged myself in researching the ways of using silver, and found that the following could have merit, it being more about effort than cost since silver is almost indestructible:
- Silver "amulet" to be carried with you always. I believe the upper limit for useful size is 100-200 CKS, and even smaller ones have clear benefits.
- CKS woven into the clothes.
- "Silver Water", finely ground silver infused in the best of spirits, VOH. I spent years with my apprentices to experiment and produce this in a large enough quantity. It comes in 2 potencies, "SW1" and "SW2". The first (higher) one is my gift to the Town Councillors, who need health in this demanding time. The other one is available for all at a price of 2 mil/bottle (char #15).

To produce these 400 bottles, the following was needed:
- 66*IC1600 for the silver
- 400*VOH
- 5,000*SCI

indicating that the price asked is not even close to meeting the production and r&d costs. A multi-year study with characters actually drinking this potion is required to determine if the effects are significant enough. (It can be consumed like any other drink.)

This is not Medicine of Life in usable form, but everyone who contribute, develop, buy, and consume this drink take it closer!

King - sips a bottle for taste -

This surprise development has postponed GIN and WHIsky to years 1608 and 1610, respectively.

In absence of tasting notes and data, the healthiness of these drinks is difficult to ascertain. It is likely that the lower bound is the healthiness of the base, VOH "Spring Water", which they contain 99.9% at least. In the upper bound, they may have the potential to essentially cure some diseases even if administered 1 bottle only. For annual health challenge, the potency of SW1 could be up to 5 times higher than SW2, based on the different concentration of silver. Old writings indicate that consumption in reasonable quantities does not pose adverse effects.

Zenon has added a bid 0.2 mil for VOH - many characters have more than they need so this is a possibility to unload and make money while he replenishes the stack to pay back the liquor loan to the King.
1851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: September 11, 2015, 12:02:55 PM
I believe these are the final hints regarding health and drinking.. so take heed.

When doing the health script, I could not act as if I did not know the relative healthinesses of the drinks (this you will not know exactly of course). I also knew exactly what was the size of the health challenge (this is not revealed to you as a figure, but will be soon evident when you start drinking trying to tackle it - the progress shows how much is left and that is the needed information).

The best part was the ability to completely quench the thirst of 7 characters instead of only 2 last time. You can go and check what these guys drank (I provided the info in the last post) and/or browse their stocks (as seen in /F_OWN). Having a large stock of different drinks is important if you want to be in good health. In the "real life" (Ultima) you will of course be able to buy them as you drink, but here I only used what had been stockpiled in advance. Even the ancients sometimes get an easy health challenge, for which drinking of beer and cheap wine might be sufficient, but sometimes you are faced with a tough one which either requires depleting the stocks of the choicest of drinks, or taking a heavy hit on health.

As I hinted, some of the drinks currently available are so potent that they can neutralize even the toughest of the (yearly) health challenges. But these drinks may not stay as good forever - wines have a peak, after which they may degrade. Spirits may not be available to be purchased any more. The price of the healthiest drinks may increase to such levels that consuming them en masse is not an option except for the wealthiest. On the other hand, new drinks with exceptional health characteristics may emerge, the challenge being to identify them! (This is possible by experimenting with large enough drinking batches). Also Zenon is busy with making ready the Medicine of Life, as now it is needed. The project was mentioned in the early 1500s so he is surely a meticulous scientist...

1 health point (in the change listing in /CHAR) is 1/10000 of maximum health. Last time due to the shortage of anything to drink with some characters, they suffered very large hits, 1000 points was not uncommon. This time, to my delight, only few such losses were recorded, and mostly they were not due to negligence in obtaining drinks (I had helped some characters with this in preparation), but just because the health challenge was so severe compared to the character's means that it was not possible or rational to tackle it fully. (Surely 100 mil worth of cognac would help, but...) The best is to hope that next year challenge would be easier.

I spent about 4 hours to do the script manually, but not only I enjoyed it, but also I am taking the opportunity to finetune the sustenance mechanism. In the longer term, this is the main way in the whole game that value is consumed. A game that only produces more and more things is fun for a short time, but to get more depth, there needs to be difficult decisions. And what could be more difficult than to plot money vs. health, especially in the context of considerable uncertainty..  Grin

I will start to contact the character owners (mainly BCT accounts) now - the migration is not yet done, but at least I get the information who are still actively in the game and can get the reins of their character once we migrate. The others will get theirs once they reply, and in the meantime the characters are allocated to wealth managers who keep their health and finances in order.
1852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: September 11, 2015, 11:06:14 AM

Drinks have been consumed, and the health status will soon be recorded in the DB as well. Many have been eagerly waiting about the details how to best preserve the health. This round gave some new insights (or at least confirmed the previous ones).

A few characters managed the health challenge without any change in their health. This is strengthening the hypothesis that at least currently, it is possible to stay "forever young" even if "immortality" is too bold a description. How this is accomplished: we will provide the total consumption of various beverages and the following figure is the consumption of those characters whose health change was zero (the consumption is an approximate figure).

MEAD - 8749 - 3
BEER - 4757 - 24
W1603A - 1042 - 420
W1600 - 903 - 217
W1601B - 831 - 100
W1603 - 665 - 100
W1602 - 618 - 100
VOH - 150 - 30
RUM - 72 - 10
W1601 - 60 - 5
RME - 29 - 10
W1602F - 21 - 18
CLXII - 17 - 7
CVS - 13 - 5
W1600M - 9 - 3

Many of the wines have been graded upwards. This has been accompanied with price increases however. At source, 2 wines can be had 12 bottles per IC now, 2 are at 6 bottles per IC and 1 is at 3 bottles per IC. Note that the IC spent must be same or older as the wine. Local merchants such as Tavastia also sell wine for those who don't care to import their own.

In the Ultima version, everyone will be able to make their health decisions themselves. Here I have tried to prioritize health so that if the character had health-preserving stock, it was used as a rule.

Hi all,

After much labor, our new urgency grading looks like this:

1 = immediate (prevents testing or critical for data coherency)
2 = urgent (needed before/for release of V3.9)
3 = asap (may be done if it is not feasible to do any more urgent things - does not postpone release though)
4 = one week (is needed for year_change routines etc)
5 = next release (will be done before any new features in V4.0)
6 = good to have (will be done "later(TM)")

The issues the testers have brought about, have been graded for their urgency. Most UI grievances were not prioritized, but the importance of being able to use the Exchange convincingly and comfortably was realized.

So the release will consist of the "1" and "2" items above, and the main remaining issues are:
- Matching does not work completely as it should. It needs to work 100%.
- Items listing will undergo streamlining.
- The "Exchange view" will show the active character's money and current item balances, best bids and asks and the command line. ("Last trades of item" and "Last trades of individual" are in "asap" category so may appear a few days after release).

I will tell when the latest update is uploaded to the online testing platform. Right now there is no need for further testing, the issues in the current version are known. It is very possible to get the new one today

Shame it's in the U.S. Otherwise I might be looking for exactly that kind of deal, since I am long on BTC, silver and perhaps other of the instruments as well, and seeking a property.

If an opportunity like this presents itself in non-EU Europe, India or SE Asia, contact me! Smiley

One possibility that may be holding the price back is AnonyMint's vaporcoin

I'd give that possibility odds of billions to one.

I highly doubt that is why the price is where it is at.

His project is vaporware.

Remains to be seen.

XMR is real and exists today. Hence there is support for it.

I also don't believe XMR current price is held down because of that. I am very interested in the concept, but so far it has not taken any investment dollars out of circulation, and even when it does, we are talking about $50-$100k total, hardly a sum to be visible in XMR price even in the unlikely case that it all came out from existing XMR investments.

Hi, and thanks to you and Crichton (and others who did the laborious testing)!

I am back from an internet blackout and have some catching up.

PJ lamented that some of his changes which had corrected issues mentioned here in the last 2 days did not update to the online version. So good news: the progress is further than it seems, bad news: some of you tested the outdated version due to the update glitch. Same has happened before with me, and it is annoying but not critical.

I will update as soon as the latest version of the exchange is updated to the online.

Scope of game not easy to comprehend IMO, maybe add an intermediate introduction page when first logged in with things like CK vital statistics (number of characters, land mass, invested XMR and/or market cap etc), a stylised map graphic of 3d medieval world (think Game of Thrones introduction), a basic description of what CK is e.g. "CK is a roll-playing game of skill that is fun to play, and depending on your skill, might make the time you spend playing it profitable', links to help files and FAQ's, message from the King etc

As soon as new character login is enabled (it will likely not be in the first iteration), there will be a push-message tutorial which is about 30 push-messages delivered based on EXP (playtime), and accompanied with a gift ranging from 2 bottles of mead, to IC and gold coins. The wiki will also start to be expanded when we get the basics together. The third way to distribute information is the "annual bulletin" similar to what I have been written in the thread but somewhat customized based on the character receiving it (as push-message).

8. Agora Marketplace. Does the items listing work? How could it work even better? Is the data correct? Other wishes?
I made some previous suggestions on Agora Marketplace in an earlier post. I also think the LHS 'Category' menu could benefit from being condensed into a smaller number of top-level categories with expanding menus for sub-categories and items underneath.

I scrapped this (it was there in the beginning). Will think when to put it back, now or later.

so..... is the online version out yet? an explanation on the first page would be nice. With how we can import our accounts and stuff like that. Currently when I go to cryptokingdom.me and try to click on login it says something like "Attackers might be trying to steal your information from cryptokingdom.me (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID"

Current status is that we have not decided the time of final data migration, and it is not yet happening. The cryptokingdom.me is in testing with dummy data, so basically anyone can log in as any character right now and see how the system looks like.

When the final migration is done, the character login access will be given to the account owners only, and at the same time or soon after, there will be the possibility to join the game as a new character as well.
