Quest Medal (DOLM) awards 1630

We had 11 Quests given to Master and higher level players. Since the Quests were secret (and some of them continue as storytelling elements, and may be tasked again in same or modified form), they will not be disclosed unless completed. The new Quest deadline is end of 1639, so you will have plenty of time to request one and complete it in time!

Master Zephyrus successfully prevented CK from meddling with the War on the Continent on the protestant side. (We remain catholic and tensions have eased, also Gustaf Adolf has not launched an offensive yet, which he historically is planning to do.)

Lord Syksy of Petrichor did "20 good deeds" in the admin side.

Lord Cryptonic got the Quest medal for NPCC challenge.

Sir Mooo of Stonehaven also performed in the challenge and Zechariah is not stingy with the medals.

The others will have a new chance.

The Knights of the Order of Doplhin are Knighted upon their first receipt of the DOLM but may gain additional ones. DOLM medals have been awarded twice:
- 8 medals for Plague in 1608
- 4 medals for Quests in 1630.


Gamemaster ruling on NPCC

The NPCC are a backend activity in the game. Until now, we planned it so at least. There has been quite intense discussion about the rules, though. The following points have been mentioned:

- Players who command farms have incentive to give good deals in the market, if not outright "free grain" (VEG), if their farmer compensation suffers less than the expected NPCC compensation (and starve the NPCC with overpriced produce if not).
- One player had CAN and could give a good deal on that.
- Another player had the controlling position on tailors, and - surprise! - his NPCC won the suits race.
- Straight giving to your NPCC was not expressly forbidden, so that was done as well, with obvious results.
- Some cried "unfair" based on common morality, others based on rules, which of course were vague enough since this was the trial round!  

We move on. I am not a freshman with the conflict of interest, needing to live constantly with them in my own dealings and decisions. I am still the main financial planner of the Town (of which I own nearly half if Coinshop counts). I have 30% of RWWC, 10% of Bank, majority of NewCorp and hence, NewFarms, 100% of King's Farms, etc(x2). And these are typically larger sums than in the NPCC game. I am quite happy that in my dealings, there has not been open debate about partiality, even up to the extent that we are now having over sums ranging from 5-50 CKG related to NPCC. So clearly I am doing something right. And that is what counts.

We want to continue with the NPCC because they are a very vital component of the game economy. If anyone wants to command an account, or has something to say to the rules, what should we allow and disallow in the future, etc, now is the time to pop in the IRC channel.

For the first 1.5 years, Bitcoin also did not go anywhere at all.

Then it rose 640000% in less than a year.

For XMR, it would mean going to $5000 and higher this year.

It is weekend, we have not handled the case yet. Since you have waited for 6 months and not claimed the account before the deadline, please allow us 6 days to decide what to do! 

Just think of what is the dollar equivalent. I believe the bitcoin wealth distribution follows the same mathematical distribution to a large extent.

A possible way to think is that "$25 million NW" is "elite" (replace the figure with anything that suits you). There maybe about 1 million such people among the 5,000 million adults in the world.

So if we take this example, the relative position to be in the "elite" is 0.02%. (In reality, even these, most are just normal guys. It is a controller tactic to paint these guys "rich" and "enemies of the working class", as has always been.)

My sources indicate that BTC has more owners now than 2 years ago, perhaps 5 million. So the 0.02% is 1,000 largest owners who are the "Bitcoin elite". If my calcs are not completely off, you only need about BTC500 to be among the 1,000 largest owners. This was the rough estimate, it's possible to spend more time on it to get a better one.

Quest update

The Quests will be evaluated at the end of this year. 10 Quests in total had been given. It currently seems that 1 of them is decisively fulfilled and 1-2 more can be, if the participants make the right actions and have some luck. So completing a Quest did not end up being easy if the success rate is 10%!

The characters who complete their Quest get Dolphin Medal.

During the accumulation phase which may or may not be ending, the global market cap of XMR has been <$10 million. What matters is that there is a declining return for a large, non-manipulative (non-strategic) investor, if they invest "too much" as a percentage of the total XMR in existence.

For a portfolio investor, seeking for profits in the long term, and not caring about the trading short term, it makes sense to buy 1-3% of the market cap, since that is an amount that can still be exited at some point. Buying 30% is not only being "a dinosaur in a china store" with huge slippage in the buy phase, but also it is impossible to sell such an amount.

So the issue is: buying 1-3% of all XMR has never costed more than $100k, so for a wealthy investor, let alone an institution, this is an insignificant fringe amount, and should not rationally cause an exit pressure even if it rises 10x to the current value.

The fundamentals of XMR can easily support 10-figure marketcap. We have just broken to 8 figures. When the rise takes place, the unwealthy should sell some to diversify, unless they want to keep XMR at 50%+ of their portfolio, which I do not recommend. For the wealthy, it just takes longer until XMR becomes 50% of their total assets, and when this becomes the case, they should start selling as well  

Even for me, XMR is not nearing 50% of my total, so there is no reason to sell (nor to buy more since I have what I need).

Million Euro Hack, Update

The changes to the game state starting from Changelog entry 158255 (March 3, 3:13 UTC) have been lost.

So - having no real choices - the GM decision is that all trades are rolled back after that period until the time that the login access was cut.

The database was restored March 4, 10:00 UTC, and the Changelog entries in the live version from 158255 (March 4, 10:17 UTC) will stay in force.

The game is fully playable and you may place orders and make trades.

The deposits and withdrawals for the period, OTC trades, and other non-market trades will stay in force by intent, and the participants are required to re-record them to the DB for them to have effect.

Currently, no signs of malicious intent have been found. Database corruption can happen for other reasons as well.

Withdrawals are disabled for the time we check the possible attack vectors of historical changelog state corruption and a few others not mentioned here. Cross-checking of history is going on as we speak. ADD: The "provider backup" has been found agreeing with the local backup, so no history has been changed.

Everyone is encouraged to:
- log in to the account now
- quickly remember the yesterday account activity and re-make the trades and consumes that were lost
- try to memorize off-market activity that needs re-recording, and record it
- it is always good to sometimes change the password, even though they are stored encrypted and thus cannot be leaked

Ordinary market trades of yesterday do not stay in force by intent, so you will need to check the situation and do them again. SuperVEG will be recreated to the farmers, and today will continue to give the extra health (and NPCC points). NPCC can therefore consume double amount and record it between yesterday and today quota in whatever way suits them (and erase the entries for the consumes that were rolled back).

We now have 183,000 VEG, which counts as Super for the players until September 20 (20:00 UTC), and for NPCC, "the whole day".

The last time we ran up to 270k last summer was because the company needed to raise a few 100,000 XMR, and did. Since that, there has been other projects but once this one is at the top of the stack, we'll move on with it.

Million Euro Hack

We are currently investigating what happened, this post will be updated.

Last night our Ultima live DB was accessed by a currently unknown party. The visible result was that the logins did not work.

Since the hashes of the passwords were unchanged from last local backup (proving that they were not messed with), the problem was checked from the hosting provider side, and their live version of the DB (the one you use when playing the game) was found deficient in structure (entire tables were missing with currently unknown reason).

The DB was overwritten from their last daily backup, which restored the functionality. It is now being checked against the local backup.

Crypto Kingdom DB is built on Changelog, which is the record of title changes. It is not possible to change ownership of anything directly by overwriting some values in the DB. All changes must be made as Changelog entries, from which the balances are calculated with a script.

Further, there is no money to be stolen in the DB. It only handles the ingame items. If illegitimate entries are added to the Changelog, they will be found and reversed. Changing the past entries will be nullified by overwriting the changelog from the backup. (A checkpointing system with PoW checksums, not too dissimilar to a blockchain, is in the plans as we grow.)

It is likely that some recent, current Changelog history from the past ~24 hours is lost. We are in the process of finding out if this is the case, and which parts of history cannot be retrieved from any source, and which part of history (if any) is questionable and will not become part of the master.

The game remains playable at the moment, but I'd advise against placing orders and making trades just now, as the integrity of changelog for the last 24 hours is compromised and we do not yet have enough information to make the decision.

It is not known at the moment, if anything that happened was with malicious intent. The structures in CK are designed to nullify the effect of intrusion (more than prevent it). In any case, today will show us how easily we can recover from this kind of loss. What is already decided is that in the future, the Changelog processor will send all entries to an offline backup in real-time. If this had been in operation already, this post would not have needed to be written, and no trades records would have been lost.

I don't mean that you sell in chunks of half of your position. You can as well divide the selling more evenly, but always sell at ATH, which provides more coins to the market when they need it, and diversifies your portfolio when you need it.

Many who are reading this are behind their accumulation phase already. We had 2 years of cheap coins so you have to be slow to not have time to buy what you wanted. If we assume an average unwealthy investor whose cost basis is 200ksat and XMR is 10% of the portfolio, the reduction of position by half until the time it is 2M makes perfect sense. If this does not happen, XMR becomes 50% of the portfolio which is rather much.

Btw, while I see the latest action as part of the quantum foam, technicals still apply and the intraday triple top at the historical strong resistance zone of 275k indicates a Fib retracement in the following days, my target is 230k.

If it is breached however, next stop is 400-430k. Place your bets if you are onto trading.

We are still in the quantum foam territory where the price does not matter. In the future, it will be higher than today, or nothing. So only the quantity matters: if you bought those 10k BTC in 2010, or not. Many could have, but did not.

Just replace BTC with XMR and 2010 with 2015.

For every 10x in price, it is prudent to share half of the position (unless lazy and does not care about diversification, or needs to keep the wealth private).

The quantum foam territory will end when we make ATH.
