And what could they do about that, exactly?

They wouldnt be able to stop everyone from installing it obviously, but the damage that could be done to bitcoin if just running the bitcoin client is deemed illegal is enormous.
Im not looking forward being put at risk of breaking laws from just about every regulator in the world and Id rather not risk finding out what exactly it is they could do.

Thats a scary world, you think you live in.
1902  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: October 29, 2013, 10:24:46 AM

We're probably not yet on their radar, but I don't see the SEC as being our friends here. Unless they come up with some new, more relaxed regulations then they are going to suffocate the Bitcoin securities market because of a high cost of compliance.

Yes, we are on there radar, as they have talked to Ukto about us last month.  I sent Ukto our Belize documents so he could send them to the SEC.

No one picks up on this? SEC going not only after exchanges, but asset issuers .
Ken, do you have any insights on your own legal liability? Would the SEC consider it the exchange fault for targeting unsophisticated (US) investors, or yours too?

Wow Puppet. Was is it with you, and the SEC? Weeks of it, everywhere. Why the fear?

So bitcoin price is at the same point it was yesterday and bid sum has dropped only 500k...

That was a crash? Really? It was an epic bear trap to me, who sold at $175? LOL

that's not really a crash. more like a correction.

i think the real crash will happened after the bitcoin trust is listed and the winklevoss btc which are locked up right now flood the market and soak up all the fiat, this is sort of the run up in anticipation to that.

this is pure speculation

I don't get it, why would BTC be sold because of this? Won't this cause an even bigger rally instead because of greater demand?

those 200k btc were not marketable and could not be touched since the july filing...

what happens to price when the supply curve moves out? ths is not demand for 200k btc this is a supply of 200k btc being SOLD to the public, supply that was not available since the twins purchased it

what happens when shareholders lock outs are done?

econ 101....

Still don't see why the shareholders would instantly sell their BTC and cause a sell off the moment they are unlocked. Price could just as well go up because of greater exposure to the public.

And 99% of the people cannot sell. Only market makers can redeem or create new, baskets. So what is needed is the price of the ETF to drop sufficiently below market price for market makers to arbitrage and redeem baskets of Bitcoins and earn on the arbitrage.

I thought the premise of the ETF was to allow an instrument to short the market, with an intent to bring some price stability.
This in turn, is supposedly going to make Bitcoin more attractive to a broader user base/merchants.

Ken,

Can you verify what U.S. Bitfunder users need to do to be sure that their shares preserved?  Do we need to be sure our public bitcoin address is one where we can sign?  For example, a non-CoinBase address?

Yes, you need to have a public Bitcoin address that you can sign, so that we can verify the number of shares you own from the Bitfunder Asset List.

If I run my wallet on my local machine, is that not good enough? I have shares currently on bitfunder, US customer.

Assuming you are referring to bitcoin-QT or Armory, then yes, you'll be able to sign messages from your receiving address.

Walk through of -qt sign and verify .......  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oxM9_OCQKM&feature=youtu.be&t=35s

Taken from Labrat thread, and edited to be generic....

How to sign a message using blockchain.info:

- Log into blockchain.info
- Click on receive money
   - click on the actions button to the right of the address your using
   - click on sign message
      - enter email body as detailed from requester
   - click sign message
   - copy "signature" output
Close "Sign Message" window

Using the message and signature, you can create a new email which you can send to requester

Oddly, from where im sitting, i think Ken could have trumped crumbs, on the FUDster scale.

Also, does silence count as FUD?
1909  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] BTCINVEST - Low risk investment fund | Market cap: 2000+ BTC on: October 19, 2013, 09:04:59 PM
Depending on which option BTCINVEST takes, it may simplify possible claims processes if you use an Inputs Bitcoin address.

Anyone: what's an "Inputs Bitcoin address"? The only mention of this term coming up in google is the above post. Thanks.

Not sure why its advantageous in this context, but......https://inputs.io

Hey Ascension, can we get an update on why the dividend is so low? Thanks

Because Marco Santoris' fees are so high?

You got it. We made a large retainer payment this dividend period. Dividend without legal fee's would have been ~147 BTC

I was wondering who was making the money, in these turbulent times.

Of course, the lawyers are siphoning it off, at BTC60 a pop. Silly me.  Lips sealed

Relax poeple. I can bet that there will be many proxy services for US citizens. It's just a matter of time.

Bitfunder through weexchange will be demanding citizenship papers and such. Proxies will not suffice.

Theres more than one type of proxy service, no?

Do you mean verified people acting on behalf of American shareholders?

The only issue I see being Bitfunder discovering this and claiming all the shares. I am sure the new terms of service will prohibit the proxy of shares with penalty of confiscation.

Thats what came to mind, yes.

As much as i welcome due diligence from Bitfunder, or any other type of trading exchange, what private agreements exist between two third parties cannot be reasonably pursued by an exchange, or the all pervading SEC, my authoritative body, or anybody.

Exchanging directly held virtual shares between each other, is illegal now?
