1941  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Good small to medium sized BTC mining pools? on: May 08, 2013, 03:49:48 PM
I don't understand hashrack -- they're just ordering from BFL which you could do yourself.  But that's for another thread.

What's the address?

No need, advice is free -- you get what you pay for Smiley  (thanks though)
1944  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: help working out what I did with my BTC on: May 07, 2013, 09:11:45 PM
It looks like both the 36 and 4 were sent to exchanges and not just change addresses because they're being mixed with 100s of other bitcoins.  (Or they were stolen)
1945  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Strongcoin.com owner stole user money - are my Bitcoins safe online? on: May 07, 2013, 06:17:55 PM
It's pretty close to true.  The hacker did spend them -- he was just tricked into sending them to the strongcoin operator.

No online wallet is 100% safe.

I think slush and ozcoin are both good.

There's this as a backend:

Make sure you push the big red button first!
1949  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter vs. Eligius? on: May 07, 2013, 04:27:17 PM
Isn't Eligius the religious one that forces their miners to put bible verses in the block chain?  I don't want to be a part of that.
1950  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the #1 Thing Bitcoins Needs Right Now? on: May 07, 2013, 04:19:09 PM
A really easy way to get cash without giving your SSN and bank info to an exchange when all the exchanges seem to constantly be getting hacked.
1951  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is miningunited.com a SCAM, turning .1 bitcoins into .137 for almost free? on: May 07, 2013, 04:13:58 PM
When I first sent my 0.05BTC, their website stated that payout is 0.0662BTC (did not say 'estimate' like it is now), there was no statement about payout being anything different and all payouts from a 0.05BTC package were 0.0662BTC (their list on website at the time). When I receive my payout, it was less than 0.0560BTC (0.0162 gains dropped to less than 0.006). Similar drop in payout happened to my second package too. Can they suddenly break the contract and pay you anything they see fit?

If they really are mining then it probably means their mining pool had an unlucky streak -- happens to all of us.
1952  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Affordable Cooling for Cards? on: May 07, 2013, 04:06:31 PM
It would be funny to see it running inside of a fridge.  I don't think the fridge would last long, and condensation would be terrible.  But it would make for a good picture.

If your GPU is being powered half by the PCIe pins from PS1 and half by the riser-motherboard connection from PS2 it seems like you could have some weird ground loops in there.

Unvented AC will help, but keep in mind that it'll heat the rest of your garage, and that may be annoying. Do you own the garage so that you can cut a hole in the wall?  Even if you don't you can make it look like a dryer vent.
1955  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Cannot open armory wallet or remove encryption with correct passphrase on: May 07, 2013, 02:52:31 PM
If it's deterministic like electrum then you don't need to pre-generate 100 addresses, you just have to write down the seed.
1956  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Cannot open armory wallet or remove encryption with correct passphrase on: May 07, 2013, 05:06:07 AM
Does armory use some type of encryption that you could decrypt yourself, outside of the armory program?  (like gpg or whatever)
1957  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just bought an Amazon gift card to trade for BTC. This is stupid. on: May 05, 2013, 04:54:14 PM
I've wondered about localbitcoins too, if you live in a populated area you might be able to do a face to face cash for bitcoins exchange.
1958  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is miningunited.com a SCAM, turning .1 bitcoins into .137 for almost free? on: May 05, 2013, 04:51:49 PM
Thanks for the updated info.  Originally I thought you were taking 0.25 and generating 0.30 for each member in 4 days, which would be an incredibly high hash rate.  Taking 0.02 and generating 0.07 seems doable, though still it's a high hash rate.  I looked at ways to rent GPU clusters, but everything I found used Nvidia and would cost more than they would return.  I guess I wish I found your rental source first Smiley

You should post which country you're in when asking for and suggesting exchanges.

Check this out:

But, if you really want a headless machine with remote monitoring and administration and you mainly use this computer for mining it sounds like a good time to start using linux.
