19421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Max Keiser Piss Anyone Else Off? on: December 11, 2013, 07:29:05 PM
He's how I first heard about bitcoin; I almost missed it too, and had to rewind, but I'd heard him mention it briefly back in Jan this year, and I thought, "What on earth is bitcoin?"

Then my life changed for the better!  So I couldn't dislike the fellow, even if he is a complete maniac Tongue

That's how I first found out about bitcoin as well. I think he's an overall plus for bitcoin aside from the few instances where he can be a bit loony.

A bit of eccentricity can be good though. Gives people character, but obviously it can go too far sometimes. I think Keiser has the right balance. I first saw him on Ten o'Clock live (can't find any decent clips): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNK2NxSYVlE

What happens to the currencies that don't make it? Does the block chain still exist? Could people still mine it if they wanted to?

Some alt coins have been brought back from the dead, Chinacoin for example:

i dont get it. what do you mean avatars dont work? i have an avatar.

You can't change it and newbs can't even upload or choose one. They were apparently disabled due to a security breach via them.

I tried 3 times, thanks tho Smiley

I think they're working on a new wallet / proper fix so hopefully that'll sort it.
19425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now On CNN: Can Bitcoin Replace PayPal? on: December 11, 2013, 06:32:43 PM
I really hope so... I hate paypal so much ever since they robbed me of an ipad. Assholes.

Hmmm.... It seems that Payapal bosses are out there on a PR-enhancement exercise. Check this.

BTW... how did you lost that ipad?

I sold my ipad to a guy who asked for a chargeback after a month and paypal just snatched the money from the account. Supposidly they said that the credit card was a stolen credit card and they never fought for my case and never got my money back. Sad

Same here, i sold a samsung galaxy and the guy after a month decided to claim a chargeback, paypal always take the side of the buyer, which is fine in theory, protecting the buyer, but what about sellers who are scammed by unscrupulous buyers, paypals logic is flawed.

The sooner they are replaced by bitcoin the better!.

And with bitcoin there will be the buyers who scream that they have been scammed by the sellers.
Nothing will change.

Just use a reputable escrow. People will always be scammed and there will always be scammers; its just about minimising risk.
So can't this be done with the current system already? Use an escrow and you're also safe!
Bitcoin improvements in this area 0. It's just shifting the risk.

The advantage of bitcoin is fee and getting rid of the middle man.
But that will bring some disadvantages as well Smiley.
Nothing is perfect.

You're suggesting using an escrow with paypal payments?

Already happening , a long time ago:
https://www.escrow.com/support/faqs/faq-questions/how-does-paypal-work-with-escrowcom.aspx?prevTopic=Payment

Yeah, except you'll need to keep the coins in escrow for up to 180 days or something to avoid paypal chargebacks and creditcard reversals etc, so unless you're willing to do that it's impractical.
19426  Economy / Services / Re: Forum Posters Needed on: December 11, 2013, 06:28:25 PM
Live up to that and then see for yourself. I'm going for 1200+ posts this time (you know what I'm talking about), but I guess that I should certainly take a break...

I'm going in for the same  Wink How many more to go on your side as of now?

Tell me about it haha, but I'm going for the 1200 posts per month for as long as it's offered. It's hard work, but worth it.

I should be there by the time. And I'm always looking for something new and more awarding in all senses of the word

I've currently got to make 66 posts a day to make it. Unless you've got any usable skills like web design or whatnot, I think this is this easiest way to make BTC, but yeah, I'd love to make BTC some other way. I wonder if there's any websites that need, like, online customer service ie responding to emails / queries etc. I'd be willing to do that and it'd be helluva lot more productive than doing this.

That doesn't make any sence at all?  'I payed for something using one of the "safest and best" payment methods in the world. Now I just press the reclaim button?'

Is it really how it works?  because I have taken screenshots and have saved all mails etc. that confirm that he got what he wanted and that I should now get mine!

He claims he never received the goods.
He claims he never made this purchase a hacker used his account without his permission.
In reality a hacker DID use his account and you never talked to the account holder only someone who brute forced his secure password (sex123 or something stupid like that).

PayPal won't look at any "proof you have" they will rubber stamp a chargeback.  If PayPal does uphold the dispute in your favor he can report it to his bank that the ACH ("e-check" is an ACH) was unauthorized.  He has 30 days to do that and the bank will rubber stamp the reversal.  Bank take the funds from PayPal, PayPal takes the funds from you.

Hopefully you get lucky, if you keep doing stupid things though eventually you luck will run out and you will get burned.

So what is the fastest and best way to trade bitcoins for money these days?
With other words, what do you guys use? Smiley

Localbitcoins or on the forums here, just use a trusted escrow and don't use Paypal. Or use exchanges, but they can be a faf setting up with ID and shit needed.
19429  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rest in peace... on: December 11, 2013, 06:15:30 PM
If Nelson Mandela is a terrorist what does that make Bush, Blair, & Obama?

So , by this comparison we don't have any other terrorists.
Should we label them by grade  1 , 2?

I'd say measure them in numbers of people they've killed, or displaced o,r children that they've orphaned.

I think the only terrorists people need to worry about are the UK/US governments.

Nothing about the chinese leaders?
One example of their actions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Chinese_Famine

It wasn't my intention to list every act of terrorism that has ever been carried out by a country's government. What wars have China started in the last 50 years?

I'll add a post from another thread here:

How long should the US have this defense pact with Japan?  and if Japan causes the war with China why should the US side with Japan?  I am sick of the US trying to get involved in other nations' issues when we are arguing over islands with no clear answer.  Yes it's over islands but it's for economic reasons.  Why waste millions of lives for a relatively small economic win?

If Japan bullies Russia, US should not interfere.

But right now, that is not the case.

Let's look back to history:

1961: China invades Aksai Chin (until then administered by India) without any provocation. It is still under Chinese occupation

1965: China invades Dong-Yin (part of Taiwan). Status quo.

1967: China invades Sikkim (part of India). Indians expel PLA soldiers.

1969: China invades Damansky Island (part of USSR). The Soviet Red Army beat the living daylights out of PLA.

1974: China invades Paracel Islands (until then administered by Vietnam) without any provocation. It is still under Chinese occupation

1987: China invades Sumdorong Chu Valley (part of India). Status quo.

1988: China invades Johnson South Reef (part of Vietnam).  It is still under Chinese occupation

Now they want to invade Shenkaku Islands (Japan) and Scarborough Shoal (Philippines).

Tell me who are the bullies here.  Grin

Why 50 years?
Lets see how many wars China has started in the last 2000.
How many wars has Turkey started in the last 50 years? But in the last 500? They've trashed my country like 100 times the last millennium.

Well , Germany hasn't started anything in the last 50 years. They must be the most peaceful people on earth !

Because I was talking about terrorists you need to be worried about. China isn't trying to be The World Police.

Why don't you list all the wars and invasions and coos and puppet governments America has been involved in? Guarantee it dwarfs Chinas list.

You can check the quality and quantity of my posts for yourself on my profile. I can do between 50-100 a day.

Selling accounts is not disallowed.

Is there an official reason why? Seems silly that it's allowed or even tolerated.

They can't control it so there is no point of even trying to ban it. It would take a lot of time to look for alt accounts and you can quite easily disguise an alt account using things such as vpns.

So I can understand if it's done privately, but creating a thread and publicly asking to buy accounts...
A bit starnge don't you think?  Huh

I agree with this.

Selling accounts is not disallowed.

Is there an official reason why? Seems silly that it's allowed or even tolerated.

Whether it's allowed or not people will still want to do it, and there's nothing mods/admins can do to prevent it from occurring outside the forums, so at least by allowing it we raise awareness and people aren't lulled into a false sense of security.

I agree you can't stop it, but it shouldn’t be able to be freely advertised. You could argue that you can't stop the sale of other illegal items / services too, so allow it. Moderators should just lock threads or ban people who openly sell accounts. Not doing so is almost condoning it and 9/10 accounts are used to scam people, and it looks bad on this site in my opinion. It's already incredibly difficult to trust people without having to wonder if somebody has just sold their account.

And you are the first posters. Your posts will be seen several hundred thousand of times...you posts will be oldest ones within whole site always..

I can pay bitcoin but you have to satisfy me with your posts first. I like to reward good jobs.

Please pm me for more information

Why don't you post more details here? I'm sure there'll be plenty of people willing to work if you're legit. Why not use a trusted escrow and tell him your terms and what you require from us - if we do not meet these requirements we wont be paid and the money goes back to you.

What prices per posts are you offering? Feel free to PM me, but you'll save yourself a lot of time if you publically state what you're willing to offer.

19435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ron Paul talking Bitcoin on Fox Business on: December 11, 2013, 05:41:58 PM
Has Ron Paul said if he's going to run in 2016, or is he out now?

Will he live until 2016? The oldest president at inauguration was Ronald Reagan and he was a doddering old fool while in office. Ron Paul is a decade older.

Here's the reason you don't elect a president that's too old:

Quote
"During Mr. Reagan's trip to Europe...members of the traveling press corps watched him doze off so many times--during speeches by French President Francois Mitterrand and Italian President Alessandro Pertini, as well as during a one-on-one audience with the Pope--that they privately christened the trip 'The Big Sleep.'"
--Mark Hertsgaard, On Bended Knee: The Press and the Reagan Presidency

"Poor dear, there's nothing between his ears."
--British Prime Minister Margaret

"What planet is he living on?"
--President Mitterand of France poses this question about Reagan to Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau.

"President Reagan doesn't always check the facts before he makes statements, and the press accepts this as kind of amusing."
--former president Jimmy Carter, March 6, 1984

"The aging Ronald Reagan is the first modern President whose contempt for the facts is treated as a charming idiosyncrasy."
--James David Barber, presidential scholar, On Bended Knee: The Press and the Reagan Presidency, Mark Hertsgaard

haha. He seems to be doing well for his age though. Who's the next best option?

19437  Economy / Economics / Re: So, a guy paid with E-check. Should i be worried? on: December 11, 2013, 05:31:20 PM

Yeah, they can do that. I have done some selling on eBay/PayPal in the past and they have become progressively worse. And I'm talking about regular goods I've sold, not bitcoin/cryptocurrency... from everything I've heard and read, they're even worse when it comes to any disputes regarding that. eBay/Paypal have shown repeatedly that they are all about the buyers and could give a crap less about the sellers.

Honestly, after my last few experiences with eBay and PayPal, I try not to deal with them at all, buying or selling, but especially selling. By the time I was done paying fees for both of them last time I sold a big ticket item, they took over 10%.... ridiculous in my book. To be honest, if I had the time, money and resources to create my own auction site and payment system, I would do it in a heart beat just to put those greedy bastards out. They might be #1 for an auction site and online payment platform right now, but that won't last much longer if they keep pissing their sellers off.

This is why I haven't sold anything on ebay in over a year and hopefully won't again, unless they sort themselves out. And still, I'd rather just deal in cryptos now any way. The fees on ebay are ridiculous. It's hardly worth selling stuff half of the time, and then you have to deal with scammers saying they never received the package and getting their money back etc.

Feathercoin has a marketplace that is free to list and there's no final value fees, except for a 1% escrow fee: https://market.feathercoin.com/index.php
19438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Christmas shopping on: December 11, 2013, 05:23:36 PM
im making this simpler, and buying them bitcoins  Grin (paper wallet inside a card  Roll Eyes)
Surely $/£50 worth of bitcoins is better than a gift they will forget about in a few days.... and one day they will be telling people about the best Christmas gift they every received..... (now worth $/£5000....)

Yeah, as long as they don't lose it or just look at you like you just gave them monopoly money haha. But yes, it's a nice gesture and possibly a great investment. Just make sure you tell them that and print a wallet out that briefly explains what BTC is and how to use/redeem it.
19439  Economy / Economics / Re: So, a guy paid with E-check. Should i be worried? on: December 11, 2013, 05:20:26 PM
Don't sell BTC for paypal/ebay. The only sure fire way to not get ripped off.

I would trust a e-check paypal transaction more than a credit card/debit card transaction through paypal, but I wouldn't trust paypal to begin with.

Yeah. I remember when somebody sent me an e-cheque on paypal years ago and it took ages to clear. Why couldn't he've just sent you the money via the regular paypal way? I'd stay well away from selling BTC or goods for Paypal. Far too easy for the seller to be scammed.

Hmm.. He just sent this message with a lot of bad spelling:
"hi i dont know what happened i just made payment... i made 2 purchases and this was third
so ebay made it so that it became echeque whcih sshould clear in 2-3 days...but i really need to get these coins right now... payment is made and will automaticaly clear by ebay and paypal.. and cant be canceled in process(unless cancled by u)
so i guess its safe
so  can u please transfer coins u payment will automaticaly clear  by max 16 as paypal says"

What can I do about this??  Shocked

Personally if I was you I wouldn't send the coins and just cancel the cheque and the listing. Tell him you can't accept a cheque as you need the money instantly and/or you've already sold the coins.

Well, that's where the problem comes in, cause I didn't know he payed by E-check 5 min after i sent the BTC.. :/
What happened was that I got the fine confirmation mail from ebay, saying that I had recieved the payment. 5 Min after i got the paypal mail saying he payed by E-check, something that had never happened before.
Ofc I wouldn't had sent the coins until the money was there if i knew that he payed with E-check at the first point!

So.. I have sent the coins, maybe I get my money maybe not, I know his real name, living place, etcetc. What do I do? Go to America?!  lol Tongue

If and when the funds do clear, withdraw the money straight to your bank account and just hope for the best. Hopefully he wont be a scammer. Keep us updated.

So, how can he "scam" me after the money is withdrawn to my bank account??

If the charge is disputed your PayPal balance will go negative.  PayPal will pull the funds back from your bank account, or send you to collections.  Even if they don't your account will be permanently suspended until you repay the negative balance.

This. However, I'm not sure if they can pull the money back directly from your bank, but they will give you a negative balance, and if you refuse to pay then eventually they will send out collections letters from a collection agency or whatnot. Hopefully you might be able to dispute it successfully though.

But if the Check doesn't bounce, how can the "scammer" be able to reclaim his money?
That doesn't make any sence at all?  'I payed for something using one of the "safest and best" payment methods in the world. Now I just press the reclaim button?'

Is it really how it works?  because I have taken screenshots and have saved all mails etc. that confirm that he got what he wanted and that I should now get mine!

Welcome to paypal. Firstly, you're not meant to sell cryptos on ebay or pp as it's against their terms. Secondly, they probably wont check or care if you sent the coins or not, and thirdly a scammer can get his funds back two ways: A) he says he didnt authorise the payment and gets his money back via paypal or his creditcard company can do a chargeback; B) He can also say you never sent the coins to him, or to somebody else’s wallet and file a claim. Just read around this forum and you'll find hundreds of horror stories.
