21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 14, 2019, 08:33:20 PM
Hmm maybe there's some truth to what you're saying. The Monero Classic chain (the one with ASIC miners) dropped from 60.2B difficulty yesterday to 21B difficulty today.

Maybe somebody is switching off their CryptoNightV0 ASICs and switching on their CryptoNightV2 ASICs? Cry

edit and it looks like the XMC hashrate will continue to drop, their block times are super slow at the moment.

May be you are right... Can you place here links to XMC hashrate/difficulty chart?

The only one I can find is coincalculators.io (scroll to the bottom). It only shows the last 24 hours though.

So it's dropped from ~502 MH/s to ~156 MH/s in just over a day.

ALL POSSIBLE security threats need to be addressed and EVERY Attack vector investigated.
That's true, but this is just people mining the coin.
Can you prove that?

What else is it going to be? My point was that the coin is meant to be mined.

Do you have a link? I had a quick scroll through the MRL page on getmonero.org but didn't find anything.
Sorry, DYOR

Maybe my Google-fu is just weak, but I couldn't find anything. That's why I asked for a source.

This is not some POS winblows OS, this is a currency that needs to remain unchangeable to serve its only function.
But we change it every 6 months  Huh
We never change the chain, it is immutable.

You should have been more specific, that you meant the chain instead of the network/consensus rules.

It's not even remotely silly
Running around screaming "ATTACK!!!" without knowing what's going on is definitely silly.

ALL POSSIBLE security threats need to be addressed and EVERY Attack vector investigated.

People that support a privacy coin like to solo mine or mine on private pools, what's wrong with that?

And do you think a 12 fold growth (from a low percentage to high) in a few days is normal organic growth?

I confirm, it is obviously abnormal even... a bit mysterious and CREEPY: last XMR hardfork made on October 8 2018 had involved Cryptonote v8 (cn/2) mining algorithm that has significant anti-ASIC improvements (I remember it because I did read a discussion on cn/2). Today, just 3 (THREE) months passed. How can one make a huge amount of new ASICs against cn/2 algo?! In 3 months?!

200 EXTRA UNKNOWN MH/s are too huge for even ASICs made in 3 months! We remember, ASICs are HARDWARE not software.

Right now:
https://miningpoolstats.stream/monero

309 MH/s Known hashrate, 200 Mh/s UNKNOWN, total 508 Mh/s

P.S. May it be a bug in a block candidate confirmation unit? Or generally speaking, a bug in XMR source code somewhere... may be in cn/2 algo itself?

Have a look at a graph of the network hashrate over the last 3 months and then things don't look so scary Smiley

- NO! Unknown hashrate is NOT just... unknown. It is a Potential Threat of 51% attack if not proven else.

Well I do think that the rapid growth is something to think about. Someone moving a big mining farm over from another coin? Someone received a bunch of FPGAs and finished programming a bitstream for CryptoNight variant 2?

I just think it's a bit silly to just see it and immediately scream that it's an attack.

we know, as you wrote in your first post, you personally run that system and power multiple asic from it

it is just such a shame bitmain did not read about it, done it on large scale, so they could avoid so much pollution from the coal power plants

Actually you need to look at there new BitDeer facility it is on a river and you can clearly see the water coming out from the building they may be using Hydro-Generator systems to run that facility you cant see any power lines running to the mountains edge where the facility is located. They may also be using it for liquid cooling

Nobody is disputing renewable energy sources like wind or hydro, I think that they're amazing. The thing people are disagreeing with is that you're putting some energy into a system, and getting more out.

when it equals to 100%, it is 51% ATTACK!!!

Not really. The unknown hashrate is just... unknown. It's not all controlled by one entity.

Yea clearly. This guy is an absolute case study in the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I think it's just someone saying inane things to get a reaction, they don't actually believe that this shite works.

Spoilers: chipless works at a major battery manufacturer

Or a mental asylum.

... How are you going to apply 500W of power to rotating a generator and expect the generator to be able to output more than the input 500W (theoretical 100% efficiency) Huh

Your not directly but with the pullies you can.

What do you think your pulleys/gears/whatevers do? They balance speed and torque, you don't magically get more power at the other end.

If you have enough to spare you could run the electric motor from the inverter also which would then create a loop and run 100% free.

I just noticed this gem on the first page and it reminded me of images like this

34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: December 31, 2018, 10:42:47 AM
According to

https://miningpoolstats.stream/monero

XMR Hashrate actual = 391 MH/s, while sum on all known pools = 315 MH/s.

Why the relative difference = 19% to 391 MH/s is so high?

Previous typical difference was 5-10%...

The "actual" network hashrate can vary quite a bit, because it adjusts itself based on block times and so is affected by luck. It also could be more solo miners and private pools joining in.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🐕 [ANN] Wownero - Such privacy! Many coins! Wow! 🐕 on: December 29, 2018, 11:50:20 AM

friends, tell me why the network has 600mh but at the same time at the "extraction" pool itself only 60-120mh, and other pools there is no, how to understand?

I don't understand your question, but you can find a list of pools and their hashrates on miningpoolstats.stream.

I mean that the total power of the network does not correspond to the power of all pools, someone mine in solo or on a closed pool? I’m interested because the profit calculator shows one number, and after a day of mining on a CryptoKnight pool, a completely different result is obtained.

Yeah, it's probably solo miners. And please don't mine on CryptoKnight Smiley

So if I buy a /32 block of IPv6 addresses and make my full node listen on all of them, will I get 4 billion times the normal reward? Smiley

Good day. Please tell me if the XMD (monero diamond) project is relevant

Monero Diamond is completely irrelevant and nobody of value cares about it.

and will you have hard forks?

Currently Monero hard forks every 6 months to include new features.

Hello
Please, explain the situation with the exchange livecoin.net.
They closed the withdrawal of monero, until the conflict with the monero developers is resolved.

There is no reason why they should not send you your coins.

find more information about this situation:
in luly 2018, the livecoin.net lost $ 1.8 million due to the vulnerability in the monero code.
after they froze the withdrawal, as I understand, until the issue of compensation is resolved.

I would like to hear developers Monero, about this situation.

ROTFLMFAO!!! They got double spent because they cannot do their own checks.

tough shit, they got caught in a bug.

There is no Premine to save them.

If you are waiting for them to get coins from no-where then you are SOL.

Maybe they should learn OpSec before opening an exchange.

I agree.

It sucks that they lost money, but it is LiveCoin's responsibility to compensate users that lost funds, not anybody the Monero Core Team or anyone else. Site funds should have been held in a cold wallet to prevent things like this from happening.

YOU GUYS ---- Is Monero Still Considered A Top-Tier Crypto? Not a Troll Question, I've Just Been Away for Quite a While Cheesy

Why wouldn't it be? It still has a brilliant group of developers and researchers that are always contributing and making it better Smiley
