The governments already realize the potential in crypto currencies but it's an education issue we are facing. The merchants could really speed up things if they offered 1% to 2% discounts to people who pay in crypto currencies.

There is the New Economy Movement that is on the way to make all altcoins including Monero obsolete. Mastercoin was an IPO stunt.
