Apologies about the downtime guys. There was a problem updating php on the server, and it might take some time to fix. The site should be back online again within 24 hours after some unscheduled maintenance. Sorry if anyone has been inconvenienced.

I just checked the server, and it is currently uploading at 5mb/s, but even at that 40 kB/s is unlikely to be caused by intensive server usage as the server should automatically balance the load across all it's connections. Some ISP's with poor morals limit speeds to bandwidth intensive IP addresses. With torrents, you connect to many various and unique IP addresses meaning you may not otherwise notice it. This may be the case for you BkkCoins. What ISP do you use?

The only other thing I can think of is that your connectivity to the server may be rather poor. The server is located in Luxembourg in Europe, so there may be a bottleneck somewhere between your computer and the server at certain times of the day. Have you been receiving 40kb/s regularly, or was this just a once off?

There may be some issues with the server hosting company too, but I have not seen any notifications from them about it.
Please let me know if this continues to be an issue.

@2wiex:

My apologies if my post seemed offhand, I had a pretty stressful week and was not in the best mood when I was posting the dividend announcement. Please be assured that I am not holding any kind of grudge against you or anything, and to be quite honest, you were right to bring me up on the fact that I have not been around as much as I would prefer. Unfortunately, my new job involves me working 60+ hours per week meaning I don't have very much time to myself at the moment.

I can still take care of issues with the site, it's just difficult to be as efficient as i was before when I don't have access to my PC for the majority of the day. I'm subscribed to the thread, but you only get 1 notification of unread replies then it stops sending you emails.

With regards to magnet links, I was working on implementing them just before christmas, but I lost all the code in a stupid error and was too frustrated to start again from scratch. I will hopefully try to implement it soon though once I get some free time to develop the site a little more.

Dividend details for this month are as follows:

Monthly Earnings: 28.53253 btc
Dividend/share: 0.02853253
Investor ROI (this month): 14.26%
Investor ROI (total): 52.53%
Monthly downloads: 542
Total bandwidth: 994.772 GB
New users this month: 95

Usage figures are looking even better than they did last month. The site really is starting to gain some solid usage footing.

A couple weeks ago I used your service for the first time. For some reason MtGox sent the payment 3 times to the Bitcoin address. I emailed support requesting a refund for the 2 transactions and I still haven't gotten a reply.

Hi bin4ry, I did not receive any email inquiring about missing payments. I reply to all emails sent to the support address. Can you give me the links to the files you triple paid for swell as a bitcoin address and I will send the coins back.

@2weix: I have replied promptly to your PM's, so I don't know why you keep posting about me being AWOL. I do not need your leave to be absent from this forum, nor does the site require my 24/7 presence here to operate. I have already explained why I am not around as much as I used to be. BitCoinTalk.org has absolutely no affiliation with bitcointorrentz.com and I have zero obligation to you or anyone else to hang around this forum.

Some of you might have noticed some weird problems with the site over the past 2 days. Due to the large volume of downloads, the sever had reached it's hdd capacity. I had to delete some of the older files (i.e >2 days old) in order to make room for new torrents. Apologies if anyone has been inconvenienced.

Confirmed no problems sending today. Also - can I pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee get FTP access?   Cheesy

PM'ed you.

Hi VillageChump. Currently, I can only offer temporary ftp access on a per-download basis. Because the site does not track which user downloads which file, it's not possible to pool all of your downloads in a single directory accessible by a single ftp account. There are other ways to download all the files from the directory though. As has already been recommended, wget or curl are ideal, and there are a swathe of download managers that will allow you to download entire directories too. To be honest, I think I will get rid of the 'ftp on request' segment on the FAQ because it has turned out to be more hassle than it is worth I think. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

Total time logged in: 12 days, 22 hours and 40 minutes.

I've learned more about economics in those 12.9 days though that I have ever learned in the previous 25 years.
Time well spent in my opinion.

I've wasted WAY more time doing far less productive things.

Just a quick post to let you guys know that the btc client crashed earlier on today. If you tried to send payment but could not this is why. It has been restarted, and everything is working fine again.
29  Economy / Services / Re: BitCoinTorrentz.com - Torrent Download Service on: February 06, 2012, 10:32:10 AM
Hi guys, the bitcoind process crashed during the week and had to be restored. That was what was causing the invisible popup box issue. I fixed that issue silently, hope it didn't cause too much inconvenience. The site should be running as normal.

As for the messages about me being AWOL, I did mention previously that I had just started a new job and that I would be online here intermittently for the next while. Don't worry guys, I'm not going anywhere. If you need to speak to me urgently or report a bug quickly, drop me a PM or contact me through the form on the website.

Investor ROI: 3.37%

How is this calculated? Using a share price of 0.68 BTC (lowest ask), I arrive at 11%/year

Hey molecular. That is the lowest ask in the secondary market. The price I originally offered the shares for was 0.2 btc/share, so I am basing my investor ROI on the shares bought from me at this price at the IPO.
31  Economy / Services / Re: BitCoinTorrentz.com - Torrent Download Service on: January 24, 2012, 09:41:52 PM
My apologies for missing this months dividend payment on the 16th. This was due to unforeseen technical errors. Cheesy

I will be making this month's dividend payment as soon as the GLBSE deposit is confirmed. The period is from 16th Dec up to and including today, Jan 24th. Next month's dividend payment will be Feb 24th, and so on for future months.

Monthly Earnings: 6.7440812 btc
Dividend/Share: 0.006744081 btc
Investor ROI: 3.37%
Total ROI for IPO investors: 38.27%

New Users: 25
Monthly Downloads: 351
Total Bandwidth: 767 GB

The earnings figures are down this month compared with last due to the huge increase in the btc:usd exchange rate, and the resultant price reduction I offered. A likely reason for reduced earnings figures also is the fact that the spike in the previous months was caused by the bandwidth-purchase system and some existing users are using pre-purchased bandwidth rather than paying for downloads ad-hoc. The key growth figures still look good though. 25 new users, the number of downloads has increased by 10% compared with last month and bandwidth usage by 19.75%.

Hi Guys,

My sincere apologies for not being around lately. I started a new job on the 9th of jan, and I'm still learning the ropes. It's a pretty daunting job that requires a LOT of my time. So I won't be as active around here in the future as I was. Please feel free to drop me a PM any time however. And the site pretty much runs on autopilot.

The major reason I haven't been around though is because I have been without internet access at home for almost 2 weeks now. I spilled about 1/2 a pint of water over my macbook last week (my only machine right now) and it wouldn't power on or charge, no signs of life whatsoever. Finally got a chance to take it to the repair place yesterday, and after they looked at it and said the logic board was corroded and would need to be replaced. In total about €900 to have it repaired, almost as much as the bloody thing cost.

Needless to say, I didn't pay, and took it back home. I'm not the kind of person to just take no for an answer though, so I intended to clean off the corroded sections as best I could, and take it to another apple repair place to see if I could get them to overlook the true cause of the problem and repair it under warranty. Wink

So I popped the hood, roughly cleaned away the affected areas thinking it was already done for. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected though, just a few specks of greenish discoloration in a few places on the motherboard. So, I tinkered around a bit with it, and when I put the case back on, I was absolutely gobsmacked when I pressed the power button and it sprang back immediately into life. It even restored my session from last week. Heh!

Needless to say, I have just finished composing an extremely pompous email to the technician that 'diagnosed' my machine. After I had finished transferring a significant fraction of my bitcoin stash to another location, of course! That was a close one. Waaay too close. Take heed from my near-miss people. Make sure your main machine doesn't get water spilled over it, ever... or make sure you back up your wallets properly!

Anywho, I'm back now. Intermittently at least. Cheesy

Sorry about that molecular. I restarted the server to update some software.
It was offline about 5-10 minutes, everything is back to normal now.
I definitely underestimated the enthusiasm of bitcointorrentz users! Cheesy
34  Economy / Services / Re: BitCoinTorrentz.com - Torrent Download Service on: January 08, 2012, 02:31:25 AM
seems like that little price increase from last year is starting to pay off now.
any chance you'd lower fees now? ;-D

In light of recent increases in the exchange rate, I have reduced the basic rate from 0.08 btc/GB back to 0.05 btc/GB, and also reduced the fees paid for existing members by the proportional amounts.

Wow,

0.3377 BTC for a 5GB torrent, downloaded in less then 10 min at an avg of 5.0MB/s.

Nice job bro, great service I think Im addicted  Smiley

Glad you are happy with the service. Smiley

I'd bet money astrology isn't bogus.

And, I'd bet a lot of it.

Did your horoscope tell you that you would come into a lot of money or something?

Honestly... it's utter hogwash! Nothing more than pompous pseudoscience. There is nothing that astrology explains that astronomy, a proper scientific field, cannot explain with greater clarity and precision, minus all the supernatural drippings.

Astrologist, yup that's what i mean, the science/study of stars.

Astrology is not what you mean.

Astrology is all about crap like horoscopes and predicting effects on the earth caused by the orientation of the stars and the constellations and blah blah blah. As in, 'you are especially fertile on the 3rd tuesday of february because the constellation of orion intersects perpendicularly with your ball sac' ... etc.

Astronomy is the scientific study of celestial bodies, you know... with telescopes, and math, and all those fancy supercomputers.
Astrologists on the other hand have crystal balls, tarot cards and jackasses who claim to have 'psychic' powers.

The BitCoin pizza is worth about $48,000 now!  Shocked

 Cheesy

"BitCoin Pizza" sounds like a great business proposal, now that I think about it...
I think that pizza must have been the only one in the world to have become more valuable after it was eaten. Cheesy

I have 5 years trading experience.

You're 17 now, so are you telling us you have been trading since you were 12?
Pokemon cards do not count.

And I have access to my advisor, who is a forex broker himself.

Who is your advisor, any relation to you? Are you paying him for his advice or does he work pro-bono? What exactly is his role?
Is he involved in the technical, financial, legal or PR aspects of bitcoinica? All of the above?

Is network administration overvalued?  How about network security?  By your logic, these professions should not be profitable and perhaps not compensated monetarily?

You have a point actually. Do we really need network administrators for a network that will administer itself? Do we need experts in network security, when the network has it's own self-adaptive defense mechanisms? Networks in the future will have brains and immune systems of their own. They will not need our inefficient help, other than for unskilled manual labour - which may itself not even be required in time. The singularity is near...
