201  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide on: April 07, 2014, 12:57:19 PM
Dogie, do you plan on ordering one of the "Prospector" units from VMC for an independent review?

They are simply boards created by using the same reference design for a REV 2 that HashFast gives out to anyone that orders chips from them.
I believe Ken also confirmed that they are using the same Fab that HashFast used to make their boards.

Depending on which side of the fence you are (Pro or Negative VMC) you would say these are just resold boards or believe what Ken is saying.

I believe they are buying parts but the stickers on the boards were a little strange. Might just be what the fab is used to doing though. Up to you to decide if that is relevant.

You do have great guides so if you do purchase one we can compare notes. There's a strange bug when having both fo the units plugged in that crashes CGMiner and keeps saying "Main Board 12V Bad". Just have to reset them and try again until it works. Also noticed that CGMiner crashes with these quite a bit. I'm working with Luke to test out BFGMiner on them as well. I'm using a windows computer and from what I heard linux is much more stable for these boards.

Ken,

Still waiting for the

"·CG Miner Supported (VMC Compiled Available)"

If you have a version that is suited best for these units please give a download link.

Thanks!

This is a nicely done setup guide thread.  He obviously put a lot of hard work into it.  If I was the OP, I'd be pissed. Why trash it with "VMC ripoff" posts?  There are plenty of other threads exposing VMC's shady business practices.  Post in those threads instead.

Thanks! I agree, this thread should be closed and a moderated one opened up.

I know!  Between the hex nuts and cardboard tube slices, that setup easily cost a trip to Dollar General, and its dumpster, and US $0.29 to boot!

Margins man!

Fantastic! In a mere 10ish months ActM has managed to amass more hashing power than Bargraphics!  Tongue

But with all due seriousness, it's nice to see the numbers grow.

Lies, got quite a bit more on ghash Tongue

208  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: VMC Fast-Hash One Prospector 512GH/s 0.7w/GH - Setup Guide on: April 04, 2014, 09:38:56 PM
500gh/460w = 0.7w/gh??

Maybe at the chip level or when underclocking them. It's about 1W/GH or a little more from what I see.

Is it me or do these look exactly like the HashFast(Scam) boards/chips?

Where/how did VMC acquire these?

HashFast claimed that they're having components shortage hence they dont ship their miners to the customers.....

However its damn clear they sold their cards to private dealers. (increase more cashflow)

Ofcourse these dealers will claim they're producing cards using HF's ref design.

Apparently HashFast has a cash shortage so they cannot produce boards but they don't have a Chip shortage so they are selling their chips with their reference design to their boards.

All you have to do is hand this reference design to a PCB board manufacturer along with all of the parts and bam you have an identical HashFast board.
209  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: April 04, 2014, 07:32:50 PM
My understanding of the situation is that all of those questions strictly rely on the information coming back from Lab Rats Lawyer.

Once his lawyer is done and paperwork sent to Zach, every question will be answered.

Cart before the horse and all of that.

Right now it looks like his lawyer is just moving a little slower than we'd all like.

Prospector1 - 22.5 Minutes - 1,006.66 Gh/s on Eligius

Looks like they are getting a little over 500GH/each which is good Smiley

First Peoples ASIC, now a potential additional datacenter, why are you not on salary?

I wish the salary would be some dividends! I have a lot of connections and I try to help out whoever I can if I see a good fit.
212  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: April 04, 2014, 02:58:46 PM
3.5ph/s * 1w/gh = 3.5MW which seems like it would be more power than our little datacenter can handle

Remember Bargraphics knows a guy that can host the entire amount. If we need to it's doable.

They are already in talks with Ken, maybe something will work out or Ken could have it all under control. It's always nice to have options!
213  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: April 04, 2014, 02:56:39 PM
There are some things i would be curious to know...

1) Bargraphics, the pics you posted have a Coolit cooler. How did you get that?
2) The board is different from an "evo" one, but yet it seems to reach 750GH with ease.

Evo: http://hashfast.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Yoli-Evo-board_FINAL-white-WEB-e1392926017925.png
Yours: https://i.imgur.com/D5OrSKj.jpg
First gen hf: http://hashfast.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Module-Measurement1.jpg

So the board shipped is really similar to a first gen HF, just with double the hashrate and a Coolit cooler that i don't understand the source off.

Ah, thought I answered this. Must have forgot to click post yesterday Sad

The CoolIt Cooler came already attached to my board (The first board I ordered) - I assume this was a gift from Ken for probably being the first order which I appreciated because I was able to get that board up right away without any issues.

The boards do not reach 750GH with ease. CGMiner was bugging out badly. After getting them running stable and OC to 720 Clock Speed that particular one runs at about 520GH on CGMiner which mostly corresponds with what Eligius is saying.

Ken forgot one of the purple thermal pads for the metal heatsinks and I had to use some not so great ones I had laying around. The board I put the H80i on is only getting about 505GH and I think it is because of this.

214  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: April 04, 2014, 02:38:54 PM
Ken, please do not forget the extra purple thermal pad when you ship more miners! Luckily I had some leftover thermal pad (not nearly thick enough though) from when I setup the chilis 5 months ago so I used that but I'm pretty sure that is what is throttling that particular mining a tad as the contact just simply isn't the best.

Setup

Each box should contain the following:
(1) Board
(2) Finned Heatsinks
(2) Thick purple thermal pads

Thermal Pads/Finned Heatsinks go on this portion of the board

Unscrew the screws under the heatsinks

Peel off the film on the Thick purple thermal pad (Front and Back), stick one under each heatsink - *Be sure to poke holes where the screws should go*

Screw in the heatsinks to the board

Wipe all of the thermal compound off the chips (if there is any)

Wipe all of the thermal compound off the heatsink (if there is any)

Smear (Don't Dab) the Antec Nano Diamond Thermal Compound on the chips. I've been told less is more but to full cover them.

Since the H80i's mounting kit simply doesn't work with these boards you will have to do some weird stuff unless you want to buy correct standoffs (I Found that buying just the nuts was easier)

I Labeled the following image to make it easy (This is the mounting kit that comes with the H80i)

A goes under the board just as it is
D (The Standoffs) screw into A on top of the board (Longer Side)
B goes on top of the cooler first (To create spacing to get a tight fit
C goes on top of B on the cooler
Use the #8-32 Hex Nuts to attach the cooler to D (The Standoffs)

Once you are done it should look something like this:

Screw the Fan that came with the H80i onto the Radiator with the screws (E) located in the mounting kit

Now to prepare your PSU

You only need the following cables:

2 x 6 Pin PCI-E - (Plugs into the Board)
1 x 24-pin ATX cable (Paperclip trick to turn it on - http://www.seasonic.ru/media/uploads/jump-start-3.jpg)
1x Sata Power Cable (to power the pump)

Once you have the PSU setup, plug your PCI-E's into the board (Make sure your PSU is off guys!)

Plug your the cord from the Cooler into the Sata Power Cable and into the board (Sata is under the board in C) (into the board in B)
Plug your Fan on the radiator to the board on any of the open places (I put mine in A)

Now plug one of your Port USB A Female Slot Plate Adapter (5-Pin) into the board

Plug your USB 2.0 A Male to A Male Cable into the USB A Female and into your computer (host)

Download the Latest CGMiner - http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/

Install WinUSB if needed - http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/zadig/

Start it up and it should run!

I highly recommend you have a large fan blowing on the board to keep it cool else it WILL throttle if you try to OC it. I use one similar to this THIS
You also should have it somewhat in the air so that the bottom side of the board can be cooled as well
I also recommend using Linux with CGMiner as it has been crashing with Windows somewhat

To OC simply make a .bat file inside your CGMiner with the following conditions (Thank you MrTeal)
Code:
cgminer.exe --hfa-fan 100 --hfa-hash-clock 720
pause

Here is my mining address with 2x Prospectors on it (Prospector1 is the worker name)

Ahhh okay, did you try Mr Teals tuning suggestion yet?

Yes that is what I used to set the clock to 650. I set it to 720 before I had it "stable" aka a huge high velocity fan blowing on the VRMs and it kept giving errors and barely hashing and was way too hot to touch.
217  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: April 04, 2014, 12:07:02 PM
Here's the more accurate CGMiner reading.

Seems to correspond correctly with Eligius

*Note they have not been running 12 hours yet so that hashrate is a little off.

Please note I only OC them to 650 Clock Rate just to test stability. Will try 720 today and see if I can get them to the ~512GH

Product Features

Hardware
4-phase Digital Voltage Regulator
Designed using state-of-the-art Texas Instruments integrated driver MOSFETs (DrMOS), it provides ample power to the BFL chips. Designed for high efficiency at 100A, it can provide 160A continuous with adequate extra cooling. Voltage levels are software programmable, and it supports reading a whole range of data, including input and output voltage, per phase and total current, duty cycles and temperatures

11 Temperature Sensors
One at the MOSFETs, onboard the voltage regulator, a general board temp, and the on-die temperatures of each ASIC

Per-Chip Frequency Measurements
The hashing frequency of the BFL chips is very voltage sensitive, but even at the same voltage there is a wide variation in frequency at the same setpoint between different chips. The Chili is the only board that measures the actual frequency of each chip using the on-chip clock output.

High Performance ARM microcontroller
A high performance Cortex M3 microcontroller was chosen, and direct DMA access allows it to simultaneously communicate with ASICs on two SPI busses while also performing other job queuing and monitoring applications.

Versatile Form Factor
Designed to be compatible with a common PCI expansion chassis, mounting large numbers of the Chili is as simple as mounting a GPU. Alternate configurations are also available; holes with the same spacing as those on the bottom of common 3.5" HDDs allow the Chili to be screwed on a HDD caddy and mounted in a hard drive bay.

Software
Entirely Custom Code
Starting from a blank slate and using the BFL code only as a reference, we worked from the ground up to make the Chili as efficient as possible.

USB Firmware Updates
As new features are added, the software can be field updated over USB without the need to buy a JTAG programmer.

P2Pool Efficient
Because we are able to accurately measure frequency and the real hashing power of each chip, we can efficiently divide work between chips without gaps. This allows support for one job per board vs one job per chip. In addition, when a new block is detected the old work is aborted and the new work is immediately loaded.

Fully Dynamic and Automatic Frequency, Voltage and Fan Speed Control
Fully dynamic and automatic voltage (V), frequency (F) and fan speed (S) control to maximize hashing performance while staying within safe operating parameters of temperature and voltage.  As the environment (room temperature) changes, V, F, and S will be adjust appropriately to maintain the highest hashing power based on the specified limits. This allows each individual chip to be pushed to it's safe limit without one slow chip throttling the entire assembly or a single hot chip destroying itself due to localized overheating. The user will be able to select slower fan speeds for noise sensitive environments such as bedrooms at the cost of some hashing power performance loss.
Software work is still continuing at breakneck pace to make sure that every feature is ready to by the time production is done, including some exciting as of yet unannounced features that will really allow us to push the chips to their maximum.

Got both the boards up now fairly stable from what I can see.

Pushed them back to Eligius. The hashrate is TWO Boards not one.

Will do the review tonight after some much needed dinner!

Eh CGMiner crashed on me, restarted it. Not sure if it's my computer or just CGMiner but others were experiencing some crashing issues on Windows with it as well.

Will likely try a linux virtual box tomorrow, will probably be more stable.

Write up delayed due to being tired Tongue Will have it tomorrow with some pictures.
