201  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: August 17, 2012, 01:38:43 PM
Take this with a grain of salt, because it's unsubstantiated rumour at this point, but if it's true it would be enormously helpful to the liquidation process.

KEEP THIS ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENTIAL
Huh.

So does anybody know more about this Cartmell guy and his case against Bitcoinica?  I wish he would have invited the rest of us in the suit...
202  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [POS] Easy POS implementation of bitcoin on: August 07, 2012, 01:21:01 AM
At my POS currently the screen is facing the employee.  If I were to do this I would want to get a second monitor that faces the customer.  But when I press F2 will the program always come up on my primary monitor or will it come up where it was last placed?  It would be very troublesome to have to drag it back to the primary monitor to input the total.

I guess ideally I would want it to pop up on both screens at the same time - the one facing the customer could just be a mirror image of the one that I can manipulate on my primary monitor.

In any case, any workarounds to getting this to work in my situation?  I guess I could just mirror the desktop all the time and just turn the second monitor on and off but that seems like a clunky solution.  I know there is an app (not free Sad ) called "Actual Multiple Monitors" that will put a button in the title bar that will let you mirror a window into the second monitor but from looking at their website it doesn't look like you can automagically have that window always mirrored which can be confusing for minimum wage employees...but maybe not.  I'm probably over-thinking it...

Tihan-
So, will you be requesting funds back from those who got paid out 100% of their claims so that everyone will get an equal proportion back?  And is it true that you had a hand in paying out 100% to a select group?
204  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 22, 2012, 01:24:37 AM

This is 100% unacceptable. Correct me if I'm wrong.

~Bruno~

I agree that there needs to be an update soon.  I'm just not sure what they could actually say at this point.  People aren't going to find "we're seeking advice on how best to handle the situation following recent events" very satisfying, even if it is factually correct.

The thing is, I don't think they are even seeking advice at this point.  I think they are just waiting to see what happens next.  It is absolutely aggravating.

If you are going to liquidate my position at $5 then I demand that you also exchange my USD account for BTC at the same $5.  This is outrageous.

A few things should be made very clear to everybody.

One of the first things we considered was having a court appointed liquidator.

It was decided that this was not the correct course of action for several reasons, first and foremost it would be significantly expensive and would be a significant delay.

Additionally we couldn't answer how they would treat bitcoin deposits.

If anybody decides to file a criminal complaint you will effectively guarantee that it will be months or even years before anybody sees their funds.

Seriously doing that is not the best way to get you funds back, indeed it is far from it.

As for isis100 there isn't even a record of your being a registered user and you have completely failed to forward any information you have to verify@bitcoinica.com

Again we are working on making this entire process be as fair as possible but the constant pressure from people who as far as i can tell are either just bored and entertaining themselves or attempting to scam funds is making the process take much longer than it should.

Since you seem to have more voice than Zhoutong, I am of the FIRST users of bitcoinica with a big balance. Why  has my refund not been processed yet?  I don't care if it delays the process a decade, if I do not see some of my money today, I will heavily invest in legal resources until I make sure that all of you pay for my troubles.

Again, my account is probably in the top TEN users with a big balance. Zhou knows exactly who I am. Pay me NOW.

Maria.

Shut up CoinExchanger / isis / Maria.

The reason why Matthew N Wright wants me to shut up, is because he is involved with bitcoinica and according to him, he helped and advised Zhou in the process.

Matthew, you are included in the lawsuit. You knew about the shady deals going on behind the curtain and did not inform the community. How much money did you make by assisting this deal?

Maria.

No Maria, we pretty much all want you to shut up.

Please say something. The price this rebounding and some of us had long positions quite large, were closed a week ago? still open? Will be closed from the now with good benefits? will be ignored?
Each day that passes increases the net value of accounts retained ...

They said already... all positions were closed weeks ago.

Did they?  I've been following pretty closely and I don't remember seeing that..

30 May 23:30: We're going to proceed with payouts of the few people we have verified hopefully tomorrow for 80% of their claims (the remaining 20% will be refunded later). A more lengthy process will be applied to everyone else.

Indeed - any payouts yet then?

If you take it out and try to spin the fan with your finger does it have any resistance?  Those fans can get gummed up easily.

You couldn't really expect it to remain dead for the remaining life of the thread now, could you?
212  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Bitcoins - Yes, you can buy Bitcoins with Paypal! on: May 16, 2012, 09:24:44 PM
Bad idea - all they have to do is claim that the item is not as described, eBay/PayPal will have them ship it back to you and force you to refund in full.  The free bitcoins you sent will really be free.

Very confusing thread..

So...any news on this yet?  What is Zhou's twitter handle?

Perhaps while everyone is distracted with the bitcoinica debacle... Wink

How do you mean you are giving away 25 for free?  I don't see any mention of that on the website..
217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Frighteningly Ambitious Bitcoin Startup Ideas on: May 10, 2012, 09:03:54 PM
Some random ideas that crossed my mind:

Put QR codes on bills so you can pay them instantly with btc.

Bus/train/parking/toll road passes that can be bought with btc.  Also things like laundromats.

Some way to tip delivery drivers with btc (QR code tags?).

Prizes for being one of the first 100 players to achieve x in an MMO can be in btc.  Could be a marking ploy to get more players in the game.

Internet scavenger hunt or series of puzzles (anyone remember the Pirates of the Carribean thing that Disney put on a few years ago?).

Pay-per-skipped-view of internet ads.

Pay to unlock movie or video game extras/add-ons.

Penny candy vending machine (since nobody has pennies on them).  You could, for example, buy a specific number of Skittles - maybe just 1, maybe 100 (and you have little plastic bags to hold whatever mix of candy you buy).

Pay to unlock content on airplane tvs.

Financial tracking software that utilizes the blockchain.

Pay for completing a task - you can hire any stranger on the street to take the job or it could be a game of sorts?  (i.e. put a box on the street with a note on it saying to take it to x address and receive a btc reward - when the recipients verify delivery then you pay them.  I know, this is only half thought out..)

Blog articles/music/video that gives you a preview and then says "to read the rest of this article send x btc to..."

Also, what is a good file host service to use?  I am not a fan of yourfilelink.com, so if someone wants to suggest a better service and/or rehost the sample elsewhere, that is fine.

Just use google docs.
