201  Other / Meta / Re: newbie jail on: March 08, 2015, 03:10:24 AM
This is to persuade Theymos to open newbie jail.
Secondbest option, IMO, would be status-based filtering. Instead of lengthy ignore list, being able to set something like "show legendary, heroes and seniors only".

I think you should apologize for writing this. Show only legendary, heroes and seniors posts?Huh This is really anti-social and arrogant. The right to discuss if for everyone.

Fortunately I didn't get this infamous "newbie jail". Also, I wasn't aware of this until the last week because of some random topic.

Also, it's interesting to notice there are a lot of trolls here with the senior status. So, a newbie jail doesn't fix any problem.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 08, 2015, 01:32:37 AM
Pretty sure poloniex is working on getting their mixin to 3.

They almost had it working, but reverted for now, im not sure why, but there were a few angryish posts about having to pay higher fees .. maybe that's why they went back?

I'm sure they'll get it working, they're pretty on top of things.

The issue with poloniex is somewhat structural. They get a huge number of small deposits from miners who mine directly to the exchange with frequent small payouts. When they try to use these outputs to pay withdrawals the transactions become huge and thus the fees large.

To fix this they may need to institute a minimum deposit or per-deposit fee (can be waived for deposits above some threshold) or some other way to crack down on miners (especially pools) doing this. Otherwise the cost of people making a lot of very small deposits gets shifted to the exchange itself and/or those making withdrawals.

WTF?Huh I can't believe in this, are the miners putting as the mining address an address which belongs to an exchange insteaad of using their own addresses?Huh

This is funny, the official one doesn't work with stealth addresses. Why is this marked as experimental when in Vertcoin is stated as stable and putted as its main feature?

There is no salvation for these people.

They still prefer to blame a news site instead of Josh for not delivering what he promised.

These people will be scammed again and again, they will never learn.

BTW, CoinFire is offline.

206  Local / Primeiros Passos (Iniciantes) / Re: Indicação de Bons Faucets, alguem? on: March 06, 2015, 09:51:01 PM

207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DRK vs XMR warez on: March 06, 2015, 07:14:09 PM
So far there has been a hypothetical debate but E-K has not come up with the goods.  That doesn't mean that he won't though.  I guess we just wait and see.  I suspect that if there is a problem it will be patched faster than it can be exploited.

The problem is how to fix this for past transactions.

_____

Just a comment about coin supplies, which is a constant issue in Darkcoin:  changing coin supply or emission is a bad idea. This is why Darkcoin looks an instamined coin.

A similar idea was already discussed in Monero. Fortunately it was rejected, but they're still looking for changing this to remain with a 1% annual perpetually. I apply the same rume: introducing a change like this can be harmful for reputation of the coin. This is the type of the thing which should be decided at the coin's launch, instead of changing lately. I'm not saying a fixed supply is better than a non-fixed supply or vice-versa, but what I'm saying is this shouldn't be changed afterwards.

211  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.0 release on: March 05, 2015, 01:54:42 AM
2 strange things in this release:

1. The default transaction fee was changed from 20000 satoshi (0.0002) to 50000 satoshi (0.0005 BTC) per kb, an increase of 150%. Why this change? Isn't this a little expensive?
2. The default unit was changed from BTC to mBTC.

Is anybody interested in changing the current Monero logo. Imo it looks too cartoonish for such superior tech. It should be edgy and sharp. Marketing and image need to taken seriously. Lets hold a contest

i'd be interested to see what is created, but IIRC, the current logo was professionally designed and effectively stands out from the others.

I think what is more important is to get the equivalent of BTC goin.

an M with a horizontal line thru it?

+1, a currency symbol is much more important than redesign an already good logo.

215  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best Cloud mining Site? on: March 04, 2015, 01:07:34 AM
Must be legit too, I need to buy Cloudmining but give me advice guys !:)

Thanks Smiley

-Sammal-

I think, it is high time to you understand the legitimacy parameters predicted in Cloud Mining 101 are pure truth. The overtly promoted ClouMining.Webiste is now missing and there is a void in 'legitimate cloud mining' space. The worst option you have now is www.CloudMining.website which is verified by a sponsored third party to deliver ROI within 114 days...

Source: http://www.cmmonitor.com/24-cloudmining-website.html

There will many people here to tell you some other story because they discovered the truth by that 101 and now they're trying desperately to sell of their CloudMining.Website share. Oh wait, CloudMining.Website even doesn't have an exit strategy and it depends mainly on the referrals!!! Be careful...

Fixed.

I already noticed there are a lot of people here simple puts who has a paid signature (specially if it's endorsing a cloudmining service) on their ignore list and this type of post shows why these people do this. I'm not against signature campaigns. If you want to do this, even if it isn't a legit company, it's up to you. After all, the responsability is not yours, but from the company who is offering the service. But try to misinformating people, specially newbies, is totally unacceptable. Also, it harms the reputation of Bitcoin.

Remembering:

1. Nobody knows at what address or pool CloudMining.Website is mining.
2. Nobody knows what ASICs they are using, or even if they have any ASIC. They don't tell anything about this.
3. They sell an unlimited hashrate. Do they have unlimited ASICs to do this?
4. They have referral programs, which in a competitive market, where you need to have minimal costs, doesn't have any economic sense.
5. Nobody knows the location of the company and of the miners.
6. You can't re-sell your hashrate.

They don't have any proof about being a legit company. Creating a cloudming website like that shouldn't take more than 1 day and doesn't require any skills about Bitcoin mining. You just need to buy a domain, look at the average market prices, tell what is cloudmining, putting a sign in / sign up page, announce a sig campaign at BitcoinTalk and profit.
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think of a coin who reduce the total amount of coins being minted? on: February 28, 2015, 05:04:15 PM
Thanks for the votes. Would be great to hear your reasons?

Do you think artificially lowering the number of total coins unfairly favours early adopters? Would this stop you investing?

It favours early adopters, instamines and premines. I think the worst thing you can do with a coin is changing the rules. Lets see some examples:

Darkcoin: It had 2 million of coins mined in 2 days. This would be just ~3% of all supply, at the time, 80 million. But later they decidedd to cut to 21 million. So, who had mined in the first 2 days was prized again. Maybe 3% off al the coin supply days can't be called an instamine, but when they decided to cut the supply, they created an instamine scheme. Also, they changed the scheme of rewarding the masternodes and miners again lately.

Ultracoin: they did this reducing the block reward at the time from 50 to 15. This didn't have any good effect at the price. Anyway, the intention  clearly was to protect early adopters.

Reddcoin: initially was a POW coin. Lately they decided to change to POS. I think this is a way to say: fuck you, miners.

Pandacoin: the same case of Reddcoin. A trick to say they have resistance against ASICs.

Feathercoin: this coin didn't change the supply, but instead the decided to change the algo. They changed the algo to NeoScrypt just to avoid Scrypt ASICs. Changing the rules of mining is really dangerous. They lost a lot of hashing power, turning it more vunerable to a 51% attack. Also, the price dropped. Even worse, they this did only in last October, at a point where Srypt ASICs were already consolidated.

Vertcoin: originally a Scrypt-N coin, lately changed to Lyre2RE when the first Scrypt-N ASICs started to appear. Price dropped hard.

The name of this is cheating. When you enter in the game and you win the game, everything is fine. But when you start to lose the game because the market or mining conditions aren't favorable to you anymore,  you go to change the rules of mining in your favor.

BTW, I'm convinced the promising of ASIC-resistance is a bad idea.

Did they move the paycoin board? I can see everyone except that one on HT

You have to be logged in to read the Paycoin section now.

Fucking cowards.

I won't register on their forum just to see the latest lies and  bullshits.

BTW, they relaunched the Paycoin website.
http://www.paycoin.com/

As I said previously, Paycoin defeats the purpose of a cryptocurrency. Instead of incentiving you to have the private keys and the control over your money, they say: put your money on our online wallet and we give to you 5% annual interest. This sounds very similar to a very know system...  Roll Eyes
219  Local / Criptomoedas Alternativas / Re: BURST - Mineração através do HD on: February 26, 2015, 03:54:31 AM

Miners generate and cache chunks of data known as 'plots', which are divided into 4096 portions known as 'scoops'. Plots are generated by taking a public address and a nonce, then hashing it, pre-appending the resulting hash, repeating the hash-pre-append cycle many times, and then hashing the whole thing and xor'ing the last hash with the whole thing.

Plots are staggered together so chunks of the same scoop number are together, then written to disk.
Each block has a generation signature which is derived only from the previous block's generation signature and miner, so it is difficult to manipulate.

When mining, the scoop number to be used for a block is derived from the generation signature and the block height, so the miner reads all relevant scoops(each plot will have 1 relevant scoop, and staggering allows for larger sequential read with less seeking) Only 0.024% of the stored data will need to be read each block.

The generation signature is hashed with each scoop. 8 bytes are taken from the hash, then divided by a scaling factor (inverse difficulty). The resulting number is a number of seconds. If that many seconds passes since the last block without a new one, the address/nonce combination used to generate that plot/scoop is eligible to announce a new block.

The miner's hardware can just sit idle until either that time or a new block. The address/nonce is included in the block as proof of eligibility, and the block is signed by that address.

Technically, this mining process can be mined POW-style, however mining it as intended will yield thousands of times the hashrate, and your hardware will sit idle most of the time. Continuously hashing until a block is found is unnecessary, as waiting long enough will cause any nonce to eventually become valid.

Only a developer of a shitcoin like ixcoin could claim the Bitcoin supply can be changed with a 51% attack conducted by a pool operator without a hardfork.
