201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 06, 2013, 06:48:34 PM
Really tempted to make a pre-order here, KNCminer do seem legit. There is still a little niggle in my mind though, perhaps I have just been tainted by the BFL fiasco. I'm especially worried as I will be late to the party if I order now. Also I feel KNCminer may be being a little optimistic with their release schedule. This is a mistake in my opinion, the same mistake BFL made. If KNCminer don't come through they can expect a torrent of angry e-mails and forum posts.
You should really read the openday report.
"Margins, upon margins, upon margins"
With that said.... I personally think they're "sandbagging", but that's just me... lol

Where can I read this report? And i see, so they are being rather vague? Hmmmm... I'm not sure what "sandbagging" means if I'm honest lol.

Edit: Just saw your edit, I see, thought you were thinking the opposite there ha ha. So you think they are being super cautious or vague in the hope that they can surprise rather than disappoint? That would certainly make for a refreshing change! I sure hope they can pull it off.

If you don't want to go for a full, physical miner, and want to be among those who get the 1-500 series, you can still buy shares of Saturn 1-500 in at least in this open group buy. There are plenty of open GB but this one (possibly others) offer 1-500 shares (first served).

What like give my money to some guy and then hope they don't run off? Nah think I'll pass on that one lmao... Though I realize that there is the same risk with KNCminer etc but at least they are vat registered etc and have another company so I feel it is less likely with them.

I will have a think about it anyway and perhaps wait till they at least have a working model to show us.

BTW anyone know how many people they have assembling these asics?

Edit: Oh and on their website they have an error on the miners page where it says "Our custom Bitcoin ASIC miners are available for order below"... Then it says the same thing at the bottom of the page. I know it is just a minor thing but it doesn't inspire confidence in me.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Noir][POOL] 0.5% Noirbits pool - Stratum/Getwork on: July 03, 2013, 11:41:19 AM
Somethings up..coinchoose reporting 7000% profitability..

Yeah this guys site is saying that the difficulty keeps going down when I would expect the opposite. Strange goings on with noirbit lol... Time to jump off it for now i think until these problems are dealt with.

Funny thing is I was finding block after block after diif dropped to 1.2K but nothing on http://nrb.miners-united.com/ pool  Huh

Something is defo wrong with his pool, I have switched now and it seems to be much better, though there are a lot of orphans with this coin which is not a good start.

EDIT: Difficulty just shot up making this coin now unprofitable to mine... Well that lasted a long time lmao, I mined it for about an hour, didn't get what I was supposed to and now I'm about to dump it, mining that is, probably won't even bother claiming my mined coins lmao.
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Noir][POOL] 0.5% Noirbits pool - Stratum/Getwork on: July 03, 2013, 11:34:53 AM
that's a coinchoose error, nothing to do with the coin.

How is it a coinchoose error? This guys site was reflecting the difficulty and it was going down... I guess coinchoose was reflecting that? Or is it coinchoose that tells the pools the current difficulty? I must admit I don't know how that side works so genuine question.

EDIT: Just changed pools to see if my hashrate is being displayed currently and it seems to be so far, lets see if my payout is current on this one too lol...

EDIT: I notice on this new pool it is displaying the orphans as this other pool was not... Lots and lots of orphans, I see this coin going nowhere fast.

Is something wrong with your pool? Not long joined it and estimates are WAY off and I am not getting what I should... Your pool is reporting my hashrate at like 300 kh currently, I am actually getting 1400! And please don't use the pplns as your reason because I get how that works but this is not the issue here. I should be up to speed by now but I am far far from that. I'll have to come off if it is not fixed soon.

Aaaaaannnnndddddd back down again... Damn it!!! Grrrrrrr... What are these people getting out of it? And who is doing it? Is it really just for the lulz? If it were wouldn't they like to gloat about their fine work? Is it rival exchanges? Or putting on the tin foil hat, is it .gov? Or I suppose bankers?

Whoever it is they won't win in the end ultimately. Crypto's are here to stay, sorry...
209  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: VirCurEx down again on: June 26, 2013, 02:20:05 PM
Vircurex is back now btw peeps. Smiley

The defense can only be done through technology by the exchanges. The attack can repeat and can last forever. These attacks are done by botnets, consisting of many infected home-computers all over the world, centrally managed for the strike.

This is true, but there are illegitimate organisations behind them, who charge their 'customers' varying amounts of money for a DDOS attack on a site of their choice - so in the end, they tend to have limited scope and persistence.

Yeah I saw someone on atlantis offering a ddos service, I did have a little chuckle about it, but i don't laugh when it is a site I like being under attack lol.

I see, so do you think they can utilize anything with the webrtc? And how would you know if you had been infected? I'm guessing they are not found by the standard virus protection?
I don't know enough about WebRTC. For my security I use Ubuntu Linux and Mac. I configure my browser. I have uninstalled Flash. I'm blocking adds. For surfing on unknown pages I use a special guest account with low privs. If I need flash (rather seldom), I do this in a virtual mashine. In Windows I always have installed an antivirus sw.

As an admin I'm rather sure I have no virus, but the attacks get more sophisticated.

You should look into it, it is fairly new but seems pretty exciting for the future as it is all open source etc... To be honest I am pretty lacking with my online security I have never bothered with it all that much and touch wood I have had no issues thus far. Non that i am aware of anyway lol... I think I would realize if I had a botnet or something just by looking at my cpu usage and my miner stats...

I am not even very careful about where I browse lol

Okay well at least it's not just me then lol... Damn ddossers... I'm sure they will give up eventually... Is there no way to prevent ddossing? Or do we just have to wait for P2P exchanges?

Edit: Oh and I wonder if these new browsers will help in anyway, with the webrtc introduction. I am not very computer savvy but I'm sure those that are must be able to come up with new and exciting things. Can't wait for it to evolve more.

back up now

I still can't get on it. Is it back down again?
215  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] I'm selling my pre-order. Single SC (60Gh), on: June 25, 2013, 07:18:52 AM
Order number ~13500
 Date 19/10/12

I'll sell the preorder to the best offer. Please use public thread thanks.

Why sell it now? Might aswell hold onto it, imagine selling it and then they ship the next day or something, you waited all that time then someone else will benefit! Don't do it man, you might regret it bigtime!

But if you really must why not ebay? Seen lots of people selling them on there at a great price.
216  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Beware of CRYPTSY on: June 24, 2013, 12:31:17 PM
yep, bitjohn was rude to me about it too. kinda funny how they allowed the trading to continue a few days before taking it offline.

That is why I jumped back in there about it to be honest, even after our chat there was still no further announcement and people were still going in the chatbox and getting told that is their fault and they should know all about it or don't trade! Things like that. It is rude and a very poor customer service!

I mean there are so many alt coins out there now it would be nearly a damn full time job to keep track of all of them all of the time. And the fact he thinks putting something in the chatbox is the way to inform customers is laughable!

I am voting with my feet anyway and moving on, ain't been back since and won't be either.

Thanks for coming in here and sharing your experience.
217  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] Bitcoins for UK Bank Transfers - New Site Now Operational on: June 24, 2013, 11:39:58 AM
Cool, the UK needs more bitcoin love, I was with intersango and Britcoin before that... Ahhhh, I miss those days and actually I really like that amir taki, he is a bitcoin purist and hates all the regulation BS! Full respect to him... I remember when I first sent my cash to him and was waiting to be ripped off but I never was, good lad...

Anyway your site looks nice, shame you have no option to sell bitcoins too.

Btw don't you think your account will be shut down before long? That has always been the problem with UK exchanges. Or is that why there is no sell option?

Best of luck to you though. Smiley

Oh and whats the deal with this?

"We're looking for people that can help us out as we expand into a variety of countries. Please get in touch if you have:"

I take it you are looking for people outside of the UK?
218  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Beware of CRYPTSY on: June 24, 2013, 09:30:59 AM
All exchanges dealing in alt-coins should have an up-front policy for 51% attacks, to make it clear and transparent for users, otherwise this kind of thing will just keep happening.

Or how about having a policy whereby they do not list coins below a certain hashrate? And if a coin falls below the hashrate it is taken offline untill such a time that the hashrate improves?

But yeah just a warning would be nice... But their philosophy is "screw you! Research better! LOL @ you for trading something that we promote."

And yes it is my opinion that by listing the coin you are promoting the coin... But these people really do not care just so long as they make their profits!

There is or could be a light at the end of the tunnel though and that is going to be P2P exchanges, there are people claiming that it will end the double spend fiasco which is hurting the entire crypto community. How can people have confidence in anything when they have to check the hashrates multiple times a day just so they are "safer". Because of course the hashrates do fluctuate like that with the difficulty changes.

I think for now I will hold off trading anything until P2P exchanges offer a safer platform. And I certainly will not be using anything cryptsy related purely down to their ridiculous policies and customer service. They even gave 24hrs notice that they were taking DVC off the BTC exchange and putting it against LTC instead. That is quite a big change and should in my opinion been given a longer notice period. Even vircurex gives like a months notice when they delist something.

I am just glad I wasn't more heavily invested in PWC or cryptsy.

Does anyone have anymore info on this.  These are pretty serious charges.  I would like to hear another side of this.

BTW they (admin) sit there and laugh about how easy it would be to 51% certain coins and how crap they are... Then why list them? Clearly they couldn't care less about the customers. In fact I was told I should research better. When in this case there was no 51% attack anyway.

Why not go on cryptsy and ask about PWC and then see what reaction you get? You will be told that you should know all about it, obviously! And they are not respeonsible for what the devs do with the coins etc...

I told them that some guy on the forum had said there was no attack, big john said that he doesn't listen to random peeps on the net, yet I had already said that NWO agreed! I mean read that post I pointed to, there was no attack... Someone just had a large hashpower and mined a lot of coins, I mean how dare they!

When I pointed these things out I was told I had been warned, although there was no warning and promply banned while he continued to state they are not responsible for what the devs do...

All I can do is tell you what happened, but if you are curious go on to cryptsy and ask them "where has PWC gone", you will see the reaction you get...
