201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PCI 1x risers power requirements with psu cables on: June 17, 2018, 01:01:31 AM
Super agree with Vann
Most of the consumer PSUs only have max 2 x 6pins connectors each rail (6pins - 6+2pins PCIe), except you are using a Y splitter. And the other things related to max power rated has posted above.

Powering a riser also will depend on the graphics card you are using, each brand, each series has different power management related to the power used priority (PCIe bus or direct PCIe socket that will load at first)

202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Rig Cooling help - noob on: June 16, 2018, 03:00:20 PM
Instead of cooling down your rigs, how about changing your coin algorithm ?
Mining Cryptonote Coins and your rigs' temparature will decrease at least 7-8 celcius

That was isn't a solution.
How if you faced most Cryptonote coins are being less profitable for mining?

OP
You have a few good advice above. I Super agree with this one:

To get the temperature under control, you have to:

1) Check the spacing between your GPUs
2) Fan settings, take them off from "auto" and manually set them on 65-75% or something
3) BIOS modding, mining BIOSes give you an edge over using the stock ones
4) Airflow through your mining room (cold air in, hot air out)
5) Overclocking/Underclocking settings

You only need to implement this in your own ways.   Smiley
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Old Gaming Desktop to Miner on: June 16, 2018, 02:39:45 PM
So, you have i7-930 with four cores, eight threads, right? (Acer Aspire AG7750-U3222 2.8GHz i7-930 Desktop Black, Orange PC), did you add the other graphics cards instead of the default one? (you can add this after tried with your current devicesWink

With that CPU spec, you can mine CPU based coins. You can find CPU mining guide with a few lists of CPU based coins:

204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Motherboard, lower hashrate :-( Why? on: June 16, 2018, 06:05:19 AM
Congratz buddy,

Which driver that was giving your R9 rig the best performance? I'm using 16.9.2 for my R9 rigs (290, 290X, 390, 390X, 295X2).

Your temps were quite good, while you are using R9 series on the tropical country. I have ever run my R9 Rig above 85.  Cheesy
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Planning Mining - Need help and suggession on: June 15, 2018, 03:47:37 PM
For starting, you can start with solid coins first (the biggest altcoins, whichever) Then while you are in mining, you can learn how to choose the most profitable coins for you with your way.

Since this is will be your first time mining, you should choose devices with a better lifespan. That mean GPUs rig will suitable for you, but as the comments above say:

"GPU -  EXPENSIVE and HARD TO MAINTAIN (OS crashes, PCIe connectors failing, power supplies getting dusty, cards failing)"

-)More technical skill need. (Learning by doing are the best way, trust me)

-)Need extra patience. (you will face a few kinds of problem, but when you has experienced enough with a various problem, it wouldn't be a big deal for you)

Then why does GPUs have a longer lifespan?

These not related to the device's failure (broke or whatever) This is related to devices flexibilities and productivities (productive time), as we know that ASICs limited by the algorithm. Maybe, you can ROI faster with ASICs. Using GPUs, your ROI will be longer (but not always). ROI (Capital Return) just giving you the cost that you spend at the first time. After it, you have the devices as your asset.

ASIC = Low resell value = Low asset value
GPU = The resale value is pretty good = Pretty good asset value

Besides that, it is necessary to take into the productivity level of the devices after ROI. With a more flexible choice of algorithms, GPUs will more productive than ASICs.

But,

If you don't want to be bothered with various problems that must be faced, Maybe ASICs with more simple operation could be your choice. My few statements above doesn't mean GPUs rig better than ASICs. It will depend on your mining passion (which kind of person are you?). As I always said, whatever the devices you are using, it will depend on "Whose behind the machine.Wink
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETHmine.org problems on: June 11, 2018, 10:12:26 AM
Ive been mining eth on ethmine.

What is Ethmine that you mean are ethermine.org?

Hash rate and everything is showing up fine. However I can't make any changes to anything. When the box of the terms of service and usage pops up. I click "accept and close" it doesn't close. it's like stuck in a loop. I click it, it closes and pops back up immediately. Preventing my from moving past that. so Im unable to do anything really. Any ideas? Thank you

What did you want to change?

Just explain it with an easier explanation, and make it sure, which pool you were talking about. If possible, you can add some screenshot related to your issue (someone here can quote it for you)
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Looking for new early altcoin to mine on: June 11, 2018, 09:37:42 AM
Go to Announcements (Altcoins) section, you can find it for sure!  Wink

You were asking newly coins to mine, but we don't know which mining machine you were using. So, informers will more easily provide you the information with appropriate algorithm restrictions.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fan issue on: June 11, 2018, 08:01:32 AM
Have you got a reply from them?

If you were able to buy the same kind fans at you local (nearest) stores, Maybe you should buy it one, Just curious to compare it.  Smiley

- No reply yet.
- I have bought another batch of 6 fans from another seller on Aliexpress in order to compare. I'll post my result here.

Sound good.  Wink

I was wiring all of my Delta fans using Industrial Switching Power Supply (quite cheap), may it can be your alternative (in case you facing the same issue next time), with the number of your fans, you'll need a few.  Cheesy
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Want to know how pos works in Raspberry pi on: June 11, 2018, 07:45:26 AM
Actually I've read before posting, and there were information that it's storage capacity is limited. so i actually wanted to know how many wallets can be used in a pi at a time.

Am not sure about this limitations, but I believe the mean of that is, isn't economical to use big SD card on Pi,  Grin. (I use 64 GB SD card on my Pi 2). So, what's that economical one? Use small SD card then HDD (think how to wiring it) and put the root on that.

You can run several wallets at once (the different coins wallet, right?)
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fan issue on: June 11, 2018, 07:12:05 AM
~snip~
In my setup, tree fans are used for each server case, and they are powered by the same atx cable that is able to sustain 20A (same as the graphic cards) so there should be no issue there. The three fans take about 8A so there's a room for it.

Seem like you were on the right setup, but I'm not really sure.  Angry

In the meanwhile, I have three fans that litteraly broke. I've contacted the Delta company in order to know if there's a way to find out if these fans aren't originals.

Have you got a reply from them?

If you were able to buy the same kind fans at you local (nearest) stores, Maybe you should buy it one, Just curious to compare it.  Smiley
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8GB MSI Radeon RX 570 ARMOR 8G OC // Too much watt usage - not enough hash on: June 11, 2018, 06:56:15 AM
getting 28mh/s on modded rom @ 2000 mem?
pretty simple man, put your mem to 2250 Tongue

Sadly i cant find a 2250 Mem on this BIOS. I really dont know what to do. 28 Hash is really not great.
Here is a Screenshot of my Editor:
http://www.bilder-upload.eu/show.php?file=2cb59a-1528675303.jpg

I think there may be a misunderstanding with the above said.

2250 mean Mem Clock on OC setting so that you wouldn't find it on your Bios editor (as you said you tried to see it at bios editor). i.e., you need to increase Mem Clock on your OC tool to 2250, and another thing following.

Yeah, like this:  Wink

Maybe i should also try to increase the Memory Clock to 2200 for the SAMSUNG cards.
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Motherboard, lower hashrate :-( Why? on: June 11, 2018, 06:37:19 AM
Have you had the same tune-up with the last one?

As I read your post, you were only "checked the Bios settings of the new Mobo and set everything to "no power saving" and set for high performance." Have you tried to OC'ing your card, by the way?
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fan issue on: June 10, 2018, 08:04:25 PM

I also use Delta's PWM at my rigs.

As the other said, the possible thing is those fans have refurbished (adding old motor into the new case), even the case was broken. As far as I know, Delta fans case was a solid and strong enough. Next, maybe you also need to add PWM controlling board (with slight modifications to the wiring scheme) to manage all of your running fans (for adjusting fan speed needed at several conditions).  Wink
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Masternodes/POS the future of mining? on: June 10, 2018, 07:29:52 PM
Ah I see what your saying because there are more miners than there are masternodes usually so the network is more secure Smiley

Yeah, not just the number of the active client, but also the protocol itself.

Im actually writing to you on my shitty HP laptop right now lol.

I glad to hear that.  Grin

And I still have not had the time to mess around with the raspeberry pi's I got the learning curve would take a lot of time. But I did order a mini ASUS pc stick to stake on Smiley

Sound good.  Wink
I manage servers in a few offices (my clients), and I have full control of those servers. Maybe I should talk about this Proof of Stake with them (I don't want to cheat them). My last PoS coin is Peercoin (it was a long time ago), maybe I'll try it again this time (if they permitCheesy
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Setup Your Own Private Mining Pool [Server + Basic Linux knowledge required] on: June 10, 2018, 07:09:57 PM
~snip~
Hope the videos will help - at least when I tried it just for fun I used the video as support and it worked without any bigger problems.
With some Linux knowledge it should be possible.
Good luck Smiley

Ah, I forgot to report it back. I have done with YIMM, and I made it. Adding a few "secret" coins as my solo mining experiment. So, I shut down my old private pool and use this new one for my research, and also using it for solo mining.

Thumb up for OP  Wink
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX Vega 64 sapphire limited edition - burned capacitor on: June 10, 2018, 06:58:57 PM

Ohow, that was terrible.  Cry
The images showed more than anything.

Or I just need to know the value of this capacitor, exchange is a matter of minutes...

That was your best option when you don't want to try to go to the nearest distributions store (maybe you have 2nd luck  Grin). But if you plan to replace that capacitor with the similar one, you should have a good enough soldering skill, and also the right solder tool.

Good luck, Buddy!
217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Masternodes/POS the future of mining? on: June 09, 2018, 02:08:10 PM
Yea I invested in about 14 different ones and out of those 14 only 1 turned out to be a straight up scam lost a good deal of money Smiley

How about your Raspberry Pi project? (I still remember your shitty old HP laptop)  Cheesy

I know that your context is more to investment to make a profit (not the mining process itself). On the investment context may you were right, PoS more efficient, less costly, easier than PoW, and so on. (I ignore the risk of scam)

On the technical sides, I agree with DevelopmentBank.

To date, nothing can really beat the transactional security afforded by 10000 GPUs on POW compared to a few thousand CPUs on POS.

in another word, PoW more secure than PoS (at least the bad guys need more effort to make the network down [it was expensive, right?])  Cheesy
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX Vega 64 sapphire limited edition - burned capacitor on: June 09, 2018, 01:29:43 PM
Ciao OP
So today is your first time saw that your cards capacitor has burnt, right? Running smoothly for six months (but actually, you doesn't know when was that capacitor has burnt). Mean that can happen in that six-month range (while you were running it) or may yesterday.  Cheesy

You can't force to running that cards again (too risky) as above comment said. If your card still under warranty will be better to return your card (RMA), except you have been modifications those bios card, you'll need extra luck!  Wink
219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Power usage with 1080 Ti + Vega 64 ~ 540W (wall) ~ 100 Mh/s ETH on: June 09, 2018, 01:02:10 PM
so I'm running 100 W hot.

Before suspecting the other thing, tell us which power supply are you using? (-how about the efficiency of your power supply)

Total power draw from the wall, also depends on your PSU efficiency. Make sure you've made the right measurement (I'm sure you've known about it), but you didn't write up PSUs specification on your post.

My suspecting may relate to your statement.

I recently upgraded drivers and swapped the power supply. Was at 480W before.

Yeah, 100 W maybe too much. Write up your PSU specification so that we can measure it, then we can move to other possible things (-such as your current setup).

Adding your img  Wink

Link above is to my very first mining rig with 1 of the PNY 1070ti cards and a 560ti which was useless.  I have since replaced the 560ti with a EVGA 1070ti and will update the link soon.

That was a good start. Congrats!  Wink

The EVGA runs alot cooler than the PNY.  Is this just manufacturer specs?

Yeah, you are right.
Every brand have a different cooling system. My R9 rig (290 + 290X), My another R9 rig (390 + 390X), Built with several brands (MSI, Gigabyte, Sapphire, XFX, ASUS).

Based on my experience Gigabyte (even with a triple-fan solution -WINDFORCE) and MSI prone overheat. The other three (Sapphire, XFX, ASUS) running more cooler.

That also happened to my RX series rigs. Then I build DIY cooling systems to handle it, and that's not a big deal now.  Smiley

I didn't even realize we were in the Bitcoin section of the mining world.....

Wow, finally I saw bill gator here. Welcome, bill!  Wink
