I just created the BTC address "Donation, MINT wall": 1EYv5xbGehXcSA3WsmEygaBfnBx5UcsGNJ

I will not use any of these BTC before the community reach a consensus on how to use them (wait for a certain amount, buy progressively, one shot...)
The resulting mintcoins should go to where the community wants it to go. I suggest it goes to the Donation address for the Mintcoin Fund (MsKZ6xRSPJAVVJ7m1oZfNqVcpJ9MyvRzha).

It would be possible that we have a lot of things to announce in just a short amount of time Smiley

PLEASE make sure to double check when people repost these addresses that they are the same
moderdezigns is completely right here: the scam happened on another community.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to stop by for a minute today and wish everyone in this great community a Happy Easter, and say that I hope you all have a wonderful day with your friends and families....

Have a GREAT day
Have a great Easter day everyone.

Could we have a comparison of the differerence between this money and bitmonero, the first derivation of bytecoin (an thus, based on cryptonote technology too)?
Disclaimer: I mine bitmonero.

Everybody calm down!

You want to have an donation address that you can rely upon? Use an official one Smiley

I will add a BTC donation address. there is no point in using MINT to buy MINT.

I will add bitmonero and the cryptonote info to the site.
Thank you. I guess you did not have time to do it yet, I see nothing on the website.
2067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BMR] Bitmonero - a new coin based on CryptoNote technology - LAUNCHED on: April 20, 2014, 03:13:26 PM
Yes, I'll be buying those. I just did it to be first (sorry, David).
Don't be sorry Smiley First, it is the game and second and most importantly, my goal was less to get BMR than to initiate the trading. See me as lazlo buying pizzas in 2010: not doing it for pizzas, but doing it for the crypto Smiley

Bitmonero cheatsheet

Code:
./bitmonerod     (start_mining, stop_mining, exit, save)
./simplewallet         (start_mining, stop_mining, exit, refresh)

./simplewallet --generate-new-wallet=bitmonero_wallet.bin
./simplewallet --wallet-file=bitmonero_wallet.bin

./simpleminer (don't know why to use it, since simplewallet is enough for mining on max threads)
connectivity_tool (don't know why to use it for)

./simpleminer and connectivity_tool, I don't see the use of them

my question may sound stupid, but how do you know when you have found a block ?
After opening up your wallet or typing refresh, you will get three transactions: one for 0.5 BMR, one for 7 BMR and onr for 10 BMR. Yes, there will be "transaction", not "mining". Of course, it could someone sending you in a row 0.5, 7 then 10 Smiley

There is presently no way I am aware of to have a history of found block. If you found a block yesterday, closed the wallet in the evening and open it up today, closed it again and reopened it, you have no way to know you found a block except by looking at your balance (provided you remember of much you had).

Idea for promoting mintcoin (on slideshare on a on a single image?):

"Hi, I'm Mike, I have 15.000.000 MINT (around 750 euros or 1.5 bitcoin) since February. Just by holding them, I generated 1.5 euros and in one year, I will have won 152 euros just by doing nothing, not even spending money on electricity or trusting a bank and all of this on top of the bitcoin rise in value."

Granted, just-dice.com could give you higher reward but with a risk - remember what I told you about confirmation bias; I prefer not-so-optimistic fact that biased data, that's why I am telling about just-dice.com

Regarding the Earth Day campaign for mintcoin: this is Sunday, please go around and take photos of either beautiful or polluted places. We will publish pictures on Earth Day.

Here is a template for the pictures for the Earth Day. I am not a graphic designer and I only have Gimp and Google Docs, so this is just to give you an idea of how it will look like - the picture is from stock archives, not mine and the text id made up - again this is just an example, but I encourage you to take a real picture and a real testimonial.
Remember: you just have to take a picture and possibly a one-liner. The rest will be handled by the web team.

I used the demotivators as the source (I just copied this one because it was the largest on Google image). You can send yours on (and a text file with your sentence if you feel inspired) to this link: picture_earthday

(Source you can copy or edit)
2072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / State of the Mintcoin on: April 20, 2014, 01:34:18 PM
Hello all,

A summary of what is on the way:

Mintcoin Fund, the world's first legally-registered NGO for a crypto. The bylaws are been sent for registration with the French administration. The goal will be to promote Mintcoin and sustainable developement through financing of actions. As the dev said: "MintCoin Fund will bring us a lot more media coverage than Coinkite could ever do" (source)

The website will be made public soon, hopefully for Earth Day.

What is needed for the moment:
- contacting sustainable developement causes that you have an active part in (because these are the easier one to reach), ideally, they could get matching contribution for the government and would not need much money, since Mintcoin still has a low value
- donating to the Fund (the fund had been finance with the pre-mine, so these donations would not go to the funding, they would be used later projects). The donation address is: MsKZ6xRSPJAVVJ7m1oZfNqVcpJ9MyvRzha[/font]. Presently it is at zero since it was just created (please someone send a link to the a working explorer for direct access)

There is already an ongoing project, Sonoma County Reforestation Plan. THe Project leader is tokyopotato, who is working there.

Teams:
We have several thematic teams:
- Web team
- Coding team
- Marketing team
I won't give the name of the members without their authorisation. Positions are opened. If you wish to join, contact public or privately (in that latter case, please tell me if you wish your participation in the team to remain invisible - if you say nothing, I will considered you are fine with being mentionned)

Website:
We acquired mintcoin.cc website and are planning for a revamp. Our main designer will soon be on holidays for half of May (he plans to deliver before his temporary leave, though), so could someone else step in? You would be part of the Web team.
- http://www.mintwoot.com/ just got published (thanks coinmany!)

Coding:
Some of the projects are:
- Android Wallet (coding team, leader paspi). Check the latest update.
- Mintstart, an eBay-like store for mintcoin (coding team, leader unek). It will try to address the famous "merchants cash out bitcoin for fiat" issue, on top of, well, being a store:)

Requested projects
Coding
- Mintcoinpool (our own pool, not someone else's pool like hashco.ws) (link). Its realisation will all depend on the interest by the community. Notice that the very idea behind mintcoin is to reduce carbon footprint, whilst multipooling is the exact opposite.
- A new mintcoin explorer. I read here and there some questions, request and announcement (like here) but I'd like some more specific news
- Improvement on the wallet: notification for upgrade or even autoupgrade (here). Some other requests too, like x64 suppport, bootstrapping the blockchain, easier installation, chancing the logo (right now, a banner is used as the logo), password request for sending mints (answers from kergekoin)
- Raspberry version (here)

Marketing
- Mintcoin T-shirts (here, glad to see you back, lumeire!)
- Communicating on price stability (here and there, something that appeals to merchants)
- Security of the network. Mintcoin is supposed to be the network with the most stacking, hence the most secure (source Gonzoucab). It would be great to back this up with facts, something that would require a a joint project with the coding team. Anyone interested?
- Popularity of mintcoin (source moderdezigns). Once again, could we get some comparative facts and numbers? My biggest concern is confirmation bias and wishful thinking. I am ready to help setting up a project for backing up these claims. Here is one: http://www.coingecko.com/ has us at the fifteenth position - still be wary that a lof of coins are not represented so even if it is a nice-looking chart, it has its shortcoming.
- It might be interesting to do something regarding organic growth, as opposed to "unnatural growth" like various sort of bribery or "showing dedication". This is slippery slope though, which should better be handled by people good at marketing (in other words: join the marketing team Smiley

As you can see, I am trying to back up as much claims as possible with facts and sources, because I am very concerned of confirmation bias. I encourage you to do the same and backup with sources and facts Smiley

I probably forgot some things, so don't hesitate to add!
2073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin V1.8, Energy Saving Coin *27 Exchanges *45 Merchants on: April 20, 2014, 03:11:33 AM
One problem that has come up recently in BTC circles is that merchants who accept a coin but then immediately exchange it, are actually creating sell pressure rather than helping the coin price. Any ideas on how mint could work around this?
Merchants have accountancy. Multiple currencies is hard to track, let alone non legally-recognized currencies! So it is expected that merchant don't keep BTC - they just cannot.
Solution: develop a parallel economy (yeah I know, scary word) for products that do not need an accountancy. C-to-C economy (local economy) is a possibility. NGO might be another one. Basically, we have to think in term of accountancy, not in term of "they are afraid". Sure they are afraid, but I believe if accountancy is not a problem anymore, it would be much easier.

Another possibility is to develop services which do not allow buying in fiat (even if the suppliers themselves are paid in fiat). One final option is to give a discount for buying in mintcoin. A nice way to implement this:

T-shirt: 500,000 MINT (21 euros) or 30 euros*
* the prices are different before we want to encourage people to use an energy-efficient, secure, decentralized money giving the money back to people (with a 20% interest rate as an icing on the cake). We are ready to cut on our margin to fulfill our dream. If you want to get mintcoins (and cheaper products!) go to https://www.litebit.eu/coin/mint/en/ and exchange some euros for mintcoins (shipping and handling also will be in mintcoins). For more information about mintcoin, visit http://mintcoin.cc.

Posting official documentation on the mintcoin.cc page as well as photos of the devs would make it look more professional imho.
The dev wishes to remain anonymous (that's why he won't be a board member of Mintcoin Fund). As for me, google my name and will know (almost) everything you want to. I will probably post something about me on the Mintcoin Fund website once it will be ready.

there is already a raspberry pi wallet for NXT which runs on solar energy. it is a nice gimmick but i don't think it will be used by a lot of people. it takes some time to get it to work properly and most people will not invest that amount of time. further isn't there already a linux wallet for MINT? isn't it possible to put this on a raspberry pi? maybe someone can try?

Short version: dependencies

Long version:Linux, as you probably know, is not, like Windows or Mac, a single OS. For the same reason that BTC has many fork (mintcoin being one), Linux has many variants (distribution, technically different than forks but this subtlity doesn't matter much here).

There are already several Linux version running on Raspberry. But the distributions for Raspberry must be less ressource-hungry than the one for desktops. Ubuntu, the most common Linux distro, is clearly too big and demanding for Raspberry. And distros small enough to fit in a 'berry will probably not have the required tool (technical term is "dependancy") to run a mintcoin wallet. This possible to get around this, but it will require some major reworking, thus time (and maybe money).

Get paid every 20 days   Smiley
For people outside of Northern America (where you get paid every 15 days, if my memory serves me well), this is called a salary Smiley

But most people on here are just looking to make quick buck rather than a slow fortune.
What matters is who is buying these mintcoins? If this is newcomers, this is a good thing. I plan to release a Gini comparisons of various coins, to check how fair we are widespread. I am also planning a "spread mint" campaign. Mintcoin holders pledge to send a part of their minting (and only minting, no touching of your base) to a specific address devoted to newcomers. I don't know yet how to avoid giving it to large holders, so if you have an idea, please tell me.

Good Morning, Evening, or afternoon....wherever you are in this world.

This is going to be a TL:DR post, but I respectfully ask you all to take the time to read it.
Hi Ken,

I'm just catching up the forum now (I should be catching up some sleep Smiley) I just finished to read you "tl;dr" post.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies for your effort. I've been particularly touched by fuzzybunny69. You truly are one of these persons why I keep fighting for Mintcoin. Earlier today, I asked on bitcointalk why people came from forex - isn't forex supposed to be better than crypto? And someone answered this:
Quote
No community
Right on the mark. That's it. The community. People with an ideal for a better world for us and for our children (and grandchildren).

Thank you for what you did Ken. Really. Even if the destination was not what you expected, there is something left: the trip.

Keep well, friend.
2076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Cynosure: burying the hatchet with Blackcoin on: April 20, 2014, 02:23:06 AM
Hi,

Following a wise proposal from a Blackcoiner, I created "common ground thread", Cynosure (more or less "guide" in Latin). I hope it will ease things out. I won't interfere much, I have enough to do with mintcoin projets Smiley But if someone wants to either fight/FUD or on the opposite build bridges, that could be the place.

Cynosure - BlackCoin and Mintcoin intermediation
2077  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Cynosure - Blackcoin and Mintcoin intermediation on: April 20, 2014, 02:17:16 AM
This is a "common ground" thread for Blackcoiners and Mintcoiners willing to bury the hatchet. The idea was brought by noerc.

I will try no to interfere by giving a direction. I will only publicly announce on the Mintcoin thread and privately announce to noerc. Then I will let you talk. I might chime in, but I don't plan to have a leading role here.
2078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 20, 2014, 12:28:45 AM
Why do you insist on comparing BlackCoin to MintCoin? MintCoin is a slowly dying currency with a community that seems to focus on what the BC community is doing instead of trying to resuscitate MintCoin.
Why do feel the need to write in bold? Emotion control?

If you replied to my PM, I would not feel the need to write publicly. We both know that public writing get misinterpretated because of pathos.

I truly hope that you will crush the 48k barrier (after all, I have some BC too, remember?). I have few doubt you will, the question is just how long it will take  Smiley

Oh: one last thing; could we just bury this hatchet? Is there something the mintcoin community can do to show you that we are as tired as you are of this squabble? I'm asking, really. If you don't want to expose yourself to insults and injury you (by you, I don't mean just Iconic but anyone) you can send me a PM if you prefer.

Have a pleasant, black, day.
2079  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best exchange for EUR, NOW? Bitcoin-Central, Bitcoin.de LocalBitcoins, else? on: April 19, 2014, 11:58:21 PM
In terms of reliability, costs? In the case of LocalBitcoins both with the use and without the escrow service.
If security if a premium, bitcoin-central.com. They are the only one fully compliant with the European legislation (bitstamp, despite being based in Slovenia, then in the Eurozone, operates out of the Eurozone since their account is in the UK). Plus, transfers are free.

Now if you want a nice looking website with usability in mind and would like to trade with powerful protections against loss, use kraken with trailing stop. Their fees are bigger so if all you want is converting euros to BTC, stick with bitcoin-central.

There is also the matter of liquidity. Here, nothing beats Bitstamp. Liquidity means the price will change more often so if you buy at market price, this is useless for you. It is only interesting if you buy at a fixed price.

And of course, there is still virwox.com if you positively want to take advantage of a quick drop in price which is worth the 10% commission

So, again:
  • simplest, least expensive, and most secured: bitcoin-central.com (also the slowest if you don't convert on evening European time, since they operate a manual check)
  • simplest, least expensive, and more chance to have your BTC cheaper or more expensive: bitstamp
  • sophisticated and slightly more expensive: kraken
  • fastest and most expensive: virwox.com
Hope this helps Smiley

2080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forex traders: why did you come to cryptos? on: April 19, 2014, 11:40:58 PM
If you can, then just short all the shitcoins.  sounds like easy money.
What does shorting means?
it means speculating that will they decrease in value.
So you wait for a crypto to lose value, you massively buy them all because you have a lot of money, this increases the price and then you you sell all of them massively, is that it?
