2101  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Official CGMINER thread - CPU/GPU miner in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 04, 2011, 01:36:17 AM
ive been using cgminer for awhile. I must say I absolutely love it. Favorite mining software by far. So whats new in 1.6.2?

thanks!

(mining at 3.5 g/hash exclusively with cgminer)
2102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] The World's First Bitcoin Luxury Wrist Watch! on: September 03, 2011, 07:31:10 PM
Well, i don't know how to say this without offending anyone.

For me, it looks like a cheap mechanical wrist watch with a generic asian clockwork (probably by some company called "BTC"?) or maybe with a custom engraving of these three letters.

Worth: probably 5$.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

No offence, but I guess you're not the intended target audience.

Check out this site called Buy It Cheaper (http://www.buycheapr.com/us/result.jsp?ga=us10&q=eta+valjoux+7750) and then bear in mind that this particular watch is a limited edition.

If it doesn't appeal to any early adopters of bitcoin, then might do to someone who's already wealthy (or a bit of a spender) who wants to take a punt on bitcoin, or who is just into collecting exclusive/expensive watches.

is it really necessary to use the word 'porn' five times on the front page of your blog?
2103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: September 03, 2011, 03:04:07 PM
this is an interesting thread. I thought I would share my bitcoin experience with the newer guys so you can get a feel for what I did and how I made it work for me.now I see a lot of people have invested a ton of their money into buying rigs but I a very happy the way I evolved my mining rigs. Basically I started out with $450 of my own investment and turned it into 3 mining rigs, 9 GPU's and 3.3 Ghash
[here we go]

I was fairly lucky to get into the bitcoin world somewhat early. Like the spring of 2011, right before bitcoin really took off - when I first heard of it bitcoin it was trading for 0.85 USD, and my best cpu was only getting like 5 m/hash so what I did was search on craigslist and I found a Saphire Vapor-X 5870 for $150. I bought that and installed it into my little tiger direct barebones I had built a couple years before. At that time the difficulty was at a low rate. That single 5870 was getting me 8 coins a day and that was before I knew about o.c. so it was really only running at 350 mhash.

[here is the back story of how I upgraded my rigs I find it kind of interesting - and you might too]
I do computer repair and I am always looking for stuff to buy and sell, in any case I found a great deal on craigslist and bought a 2007 Macbook Pro that had some problems for $300, I fixed it up and sold it for $600. Then I saw a guy on craigslist who had a brand new mac book air 2011 model, he was desperate for money and I convinced him to sell me the macbook air for $600.

I had that macbook air for about two weeks, when I saw this incredible gaming machine for sale, the guy was asking $1100 for it, it had the MSI GD70 board (five pcie slots!) liquid cooling, dominator ram, a corsair 1200 watt powersupply and two REFERENCE AMD 6870s! After texting back and forth for almost a whole day I convinced him to trade it for the mac book air!

So I got this machine home, and then moved the cards around and put my 5870 into this machine with the two 6870's now I was rocking over 1 Ghash! it was killer - bitcoin was at about $3.00 at that time and my gigahash rig was bringing me in over 30 coins a week! - Shortly after that bitcoin went up to $6, or $7 a coin - this was very exciting - I was saving my coins and then when it hit $10 I sold them all and built two more rigs

Adding in (2) more 5870's (2) more 6870's (1) 5830 and (1) 5850

I was doing very well for awhile man, the difficulty kept jumping but so did the  price, When Bitcoin hit $30+ a coin I was really enjoying that, and of course the rest is history.

MTGox got hacked, (so did I for that matter) Bitcoin took a big hit, then the MyBitcoin scandel and now the Bruce Wagner saga(tom wiliiams et al) blah blah blah and BTC got stuck in the rut it is in now.

and here we are

the difficulty seems to have finally stabilized which is awesome
and I have a 3.3 Ghash mining operation
and Basically I only invested $450 total of my own money. Everything else was paid for with trading and with bitcoins that I mined.

It seems like its been such a long time because so much has happened but really this all happened in the last 6-7 months.

here are pics of my rigs. Enjoy!

btw, I know a lot of people like to build mining only rigs - open air systems etc. but my idea is to build something that doubles as a killer gaming machine as well that way when mining is over you still have a valuable and resell-able gaming machine.

2104  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Looking for teams for first ever Bitcoin Fantasy Football league on: September 02, 2011, 11:23:35 AM
i thought this was a weird place for Fantasy Football League, not sure why this has been moved to project development.

In any case we have bumped our draft back to 09/03 at 1:00 PM EST

so you still have a chance to get in on the action!
we already have 6 teams!
the league dues are 1 BTC per team to be paid to 19vJRuMGn1g7MWnfLss7vZEAXFnvt8KSAf
this is a points league so the team with the most points at the end of the season wins the purse

2105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC/NMC merged mining available for testing on: September 02, 2011, 01:24:26 AM
I think you are missing the point of this. I read the wiki and I believe this is the idea of this. If it will work or not I am not sure.

His idea if it were to work, would be say you are on a pool that mines on both the bitcoin network and the namecoin network simultaneously

so as your gpu's are hashing and submitting shares
instead of just submitting that share to the bitcoin network
it is also submitting that share to the namecoin network

this is assuming this would work with all bitcoin forks, which I am not sure that it would.

this seems like a really cool idea if someone could make it work.
2106  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bug or miracle? on: September 01, 2011, 11:43:54 PM
i have a 5850, visiontek, its a nice card, but its the pickiest of the 10 cards I have. They like to be clocked way low. thanks for the info brother, Im running mine at 890/180 and it would never run anywhere near 1005 - not in a million years., but im getting 360 mhash right now out of it so i cant complain.
2107  Other / Off-topic / Re: According To This Man.. We Are Doomed On September 26, 2011! on: September 01, 2011, 11:39:16 PM
lol

I will bet you 10,000 i0 coins and 14,000 iX coins that SolidCoin will become more valuable than BTC on Bruce Wagners birthday as told by the Mayan calender.
2108  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bug or miracle? on: September 01, 2011, 07:32:27 PM
huh.

nothing happened to me.

5850's still at 407.

if you dont mind me asking , how did you get your 5850 at 407?

mine runs at about 350 easy , but this thing is one of the pickiest cards I have ever overclocked , it cant be clocked very high (and dosnt need to )

so please share your secret

btw: to the person who started the topic, you really made me laugh out loud when I realized the "miracle" you were talking about was 5 mhash hahahah

try that, and also the main thread is in the Bitcoin discussion area.

thanks!

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/626558

This is basically just for fun. Team dues are 1 BTC with the whole amount being paid to the super bowl winner.

I do not want to hold the team dues and I am still looking for a trusted member of the community to do so , so we are not asking teams pay the 1 btc yet

hope to see you there!
2111  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling GPUs 5970/5870s on: August 30, 2011, 10:03:59 PM
i received my card last friday. Thanks nextshare, and sorry for not updating this I have been super busy.
2112  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: seriously. its closed. move on. on: August 30, 2011, 08:23:16 PM
please. The pool didnt work out. Can you just move on please?

and just to put the facts straight - we never changed any payment method EVER.
since day one we had a traditional proportional payout method with a decaying share modification to prevent pool hopping.
We always stated that we had a mechanism to protect against pool hopping - we never gave specifics, but if you mined with us and pool hopped obviously you found out what happened right?

Was it right, or wrong? or smart or dumb? Well who knows and who cares obviously we did something wrong because the pool failed to succeed. I have moved on. Now cant you do the same thing?

and I am not even going to begin to discuss how absolutely preposterous it is to claim that because you signed up for an account with a pool you have some kind of contact.

from a Legal stand point a pool operator could have you mine 100 blocks for him and he could keep all the coins for himself and there would be absolutely no legal recourse you would have at all.

I am sorry so many people are unhappy. I tried to the best of my ability to make this work. It didn't work. now move on.
2113  Other / Off-topic / Re: Two interesting emails I received today... on: August 30, 2011, 07:43:39 PM
ive always been a fan of yours bruce. In fact I found out about this from your mailing list. The whole pattaya thing looks really bad though - In my very humble opinion I think you should take a step out of the spot light for awhile. God knows Bitcoin as a whole as well as BTC values have suffered enough at the hands of scandal. We really don't need another scandal right now since we have been below $10 USD since the "expo".

btw I like your flickr folder, this one is particularly funny.

thanks for your time.
good luck!

2116  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~10ghs] BitMinersUnion.org - CLOSING - when this current block is solved. on: August 23, 2011, 10:18:35 PM
i agree with you 100% on everything. I think I have spent too much time trying to appease unreasonable people.

thank you for bringing a note of clarity.
2117  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~10ghs] BitMinersUnion.org *LP*JSON*FULL8* AUTO POOL HOP PROTECTION on: August 23, 2011, 07:15:19 PM
i have paid our far more than any of you could possibly lose by pool hopping here.

I have spent hundreds of dollars promoting this pool - the first week I was paying out daily reward payments to all miners who had 100 mhash or more to contribute.

I literally spent all I had to promote this pool 100% of it went directly to the miners them selves. If you were an actual miner at this pool you would know that.

there are two options miners have

you can either cut your losses and just go mine somewhere else
or you can try and help me solve this last block so the mining time you spent over the last 4 days is not in vain

whatever choice you make I will respect it.

but those are literally the only two options and I have absolutely no way to change this.
2118  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~10ghs] BitMinersUnion.org *LP*JSON*FULL8* AUTO POOL HOP PROTECTION on: August 23, 2011, 06:35:19 PM

if everyone moved all the mining power they have over and get this block killed it has to be almost dead we are almost at 2.2 mil shares

Deepbit had a 16mil block...

Blocking poolhoppers as a small pool isn't smart... At the start of a block, people see the high Ghash rating of your pool and that attracks people.
Now you will be stuck on ~10Ghash/s forever...

When a miner at your pool did 120,000 shares, you can't just say "oh sorry, you left for 12 hours so I decrease your shares"... Shares are shares... If you say "I pay prop", you pay prop...
I'm not saying this to defend "poolhoppers" only, there are people who don't hop and did a lot of shares for this block and if they can't mine for a while you can't just steal there shares... That's what it is...

And if you change these kind of things, tell it in advance... Don't change/tell new rules during a game...
* I HAVE NEVER CHANGED THE RULES OR PAYOUT SYSTEM IT HAS STAYED THE SAME SINCE DAY ONE *
I like what you did to the "old miners" and their shares but this disapoints me... And reading the other responses, I'm not the only one...

Magnet: your right, it is possible that this is the most unlucky block in history and it we will submit 20 mil shares before its sovled. That is possible but not probable. We are already above what qualifies for an "average" share block.

the reason my programmer quit on me is beacuse I asked him to code us a new payment system, I have even been talking about coding a pool hopper friendly payment system, but I am not a programmer, and right now I dont have one.

The payment system we use is the same we have always used dude, please read the first page in this thread, I have not changed it since this whole thing happend - and I am sorry it happened like this - but everyone has to realize it is not our fault that some careless person assumed we were a pool hop friendly pool and started posting everywhere that you can pool hop on our pool. They should of dug a little deeper, we have miners who have had decaying shares all the way back on the first block which was solved 6 days ago. This is no secret my friend. I understand everyone expected this to be a pool hop party over here, I read the article myself, they said we were totally vulnerable so that was the expectation everyone had, well it was a mistake on the person who wrote that article and to the people who published us in pool hopping scripts.

but the reality is none of this matters so much now

here are the facts:

a) We have this proportional payout system that has been modified to decay shares the longer you are disconnected from the pool as a means to stop pool hoppers
b) In the midst of this whole pool hopping controversy my programmer and co-admin backed out on me
c) Unless a programmer steps up and decides to co-admin this pool we are shutting down after this block is solved
d) We are at 2.2 mil shares on this block - which when talking about probability we could solve it soon
e) I dont want all these good miners to have wasted their mining time over the last few days - so if you want to make it worth anything please start mining on this block - all I can gaurantee you is I have 2500 m/hash and I will not give up until this block is solved
f) and probably most important I am NOT a programmer and I can not change any of this on my own
2119  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~10ghs] BitMinersUnion.org *LP*JSON*FULL8* AUTO POOL HOP PROTECTION on: August 23, 2011, 05:58:51 PM
Hi
is this the new www.bitminersunion.org where an older homepage was (is this the same..)?
I have today new registered, because with this adress and my data from the old one it was impossible to log in.
If this is the same, I would like to know where my old shares (from the old acount) are?
thx

sorry dude your way too late for that, please read page 6 or 7 on the thread

it includes the details for shares from the old pool
2120  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~10ghs] BitMinersUnion.org *LP*JSON*FULL8* AUTO POOL HOP PROTECTION on: August 23, 2011, 05:57:16 PM
its the pool hopping protection mechanism or "decaying shares" as the programmer who designed it calls it

the system automatically lowers yours shares based on how long you have been away from the pool
jim it looks like yours were just starting to go away.

I already messaged you on this.

I am going to be honest with everyone - my co-admin who programmed all this stuff backed out, hes a brilliant guy but hes got alot of family and work responsibilities - I was talking about redoing the payment system and he just does not have time for it, its his decision and i respect him for it.

however this is really something I can't run on my own, and no one else is stepping up who wants to take the pool over or help me run it... so

Basically the way it looks now, after this 3rd block is solved im going to close mining on the pool, but I will leave the website and bitcoind running so when the block matures you can still get paid for it

if everyone moved all the mining power they have over and get this block killed it has to be almost dead we are almost at 2.2 mil shares

but thats basically it, i put a lot of time and money into making this work, but without someone to help me with it - its pointless

I am sorry gentleman, lets at least solve this third block so all the time we have spent over the last 4 days was not for nothing

I am sure you will get a good payout for it as well

but if you dont at least keep some miners attached your going to lose some if not all your shares
this is the payout system we have and I have no idea how to even start to change it
i never claimed to be a programmer
