2101  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ID for buying bitcoin on: June 12, 2020, 11:27:35 AM
With Bitcoin ATM, users still have to provide their phone numbers in order to get codes and print Private key, public key before they buy their bitcoin. Fortunately, disclosing phone numbers is far away from doing a full KYC so Bitcoin ATMs are great alternatives for people who scare about and don't want to do KYCs on exchanges or marketplaces.=
We have some ATMs in Romania that do not require any personal information to buy Bitcoin from (haven't visited them in a while though, so things could've changed). I never gave any kind of personal info when I bought through an ATM before.

People probably fall in to the loopholes of fake DEXes and believe such fake DEXes allow them using services without KYCs. The fact is sometimes they can use those exchanges safely, without KYCs, but sometimes they will be mandatorily required doing KYCs, and there are not real DEXes in crypto. They are all centralized.
Not really. You have Atomic DEX and Bisq which are decentralized (although I think Bisq is more decentralized in comparison with Atomic DEX for now) and ask you for no KYC. There's also the Waves DEX which only requires KYC for fiat transactions, but I don't trust it much to be honest.
2102  Other / Serious discussion / Is there any reliable email provider that allows creation of addresses on Tor? on: June 12, 2020, 10:48:21 AM
I've been looking for months now for an e-mail provider that allows me to create an address through Tor without having to give any personal information. There are some Tor providers out there that I found, but most of them are either unknown, new or non-working and I'd rather go for a reliable provider instead.

For example, there have been a few providers on Tor that closed their business after a few years and I honestly don't want to end up having my e-mail addresses closed down and migrating from a provider to another every now and then.

ProtonMail even has an Onion link, but upon registration they ask you to either pay or verify through SMS which I'd like to avoid. So.. is there any free email provider that fits my needs? Grin
2103  Other / Meta / Re: [Proposal] Show total Received and Send merit on the Merit summary page. on: June 12, 2020, 10:15:51 AM
I made this suggestion a few months ago and then found out there are very quick ways to do it, one of them being simply replying in the topic I linked above, removing the reply after 10-15 seconds and then visiting http://loyce.club/120days/. Wouldn't be bad if the topic got bumped like one time per week though, for a higher visibility. Smiley

I'd have to guess that theymos and those working on Epochtalk are more focused on it than on SMF and probably consider adding new features to the SMF a waste of time (and might even be harder than adding features to Epochtalk) considering the new forum is under work.
2104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges not accepting mixed BTC, so is BTC no longer fungible? on: June 11, 2020, 11:43:50 PM
With this going to happen, what would happen to the mixer business?
They will probably go underground once they get banned almost everywhere. Users will not use them anymore unless they want to hide from something off the grid.. which is usually underground activity.

But anyway, I don't really think too much of this as I don't see any complaints yet regarding this kind of transaction from a user, so there's also a possibility that it could not be implemented in the future.
I have seen a few topics here and there on the forum and it'll become a widespread problem once more exchanges start applying the same thing (or the govs force them to). I am against the ban of them but we all should be aware that our governments never really cared about our privacy so they aren't going to start caring now.
2105  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it’s important to avoid telling everyone about your crypto holdings on: June 11, 2020, 10:14:28 PM
I have an even worse scenario: being tortured for Bitcoin. And it's not the only case: The Netherlands had one too, so did other countries as well (but can't find the links right now).

But isn't it quite logical that by publicly shilling BTC people will know that you most likely do have some coins yourself? Like.. I talk about BTC very often and I usually chat with my friends about it too. I've never mentioned whether I do or do not have any BTC though.

The torture/hostage scenario could be avoided by having a Ledger with only $50-200 on the main account and the rest of your money on a temporary password. If someone ever forces you to give them your money, just unlock your ledger and let them take the small amount - they'll never know you have a secret wallet inside your.. brain. Smiley
2106  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: In ce proiecte Crypto Romanesti ati investit bani pana acum? on: June 11, 2020, 04:46:56 PM

2107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Should You Track The Cryptocurrency Market Cap Before Investing? on: June 10, 2020, 04:08:47 PM
Many countries are considering launching their cryptocurrency and China has launched its bitcoin-like digital currency.
Just.. Just get that out of your head. It's not going to be "bitcoin-like". In fact, no national digital currency will be similar to Bitcoin. As long as it defeats the main purpose Bitcoin was created for, a closer match will probably be credit cards and PayPal. But other than the fact that their currency will be on their own blockchain, nothing will be the same. With BTC, you have control. With the digital yuan, good luck making any kind of move they'd consider suspicious enough to interrogate you as your identity is linked to the account 100% anyway.. Smiley
2108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Let us discuss on hacked exchanges on: June 10, 2020, 02:50:54 PM
This is what happens when the creators of some exchanges are the same users asking on a forum how much it costs to have the cheapest one set up. It's a shame that so many non-popular exchanges out there never care about even the most essential security advices.

There are backdoors out there because too many exchanges are focusing on adding as many shitcoins as possible to take every little penny of profit they can instead of leaving the new coins for later while creating a strong security layer for both their own safety so they can't be liable for such events and the customers' as their funds would be stored safely.

Like damn it, at least spend a few grand to protect the exchange wallet if not the website overall.
2109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are at it again. Now attacking large corporations for more money. on: June 10, 2020, 12:13:18 PM
At the moment I have six sets of my videos and photos.

1 in my safety box
1 at my bro in law in a different state
3 at home
1 set of photos on imgur
1 set of videos on  YouTube
That's seven! Cheesy You're probably one of the very, very few who are splitting their personal data in different places. Most are either holding them on Google Photos/iCloud or keep them on a HDD/SDD they use on a daily basis. I keep my personal data on a few very well encrypted hard disks which are also hidden well in case my house burns down or someone steals part of them.

However, "since 2017 hackers have stolen around $2 billion in cryptocurrency."
Therefore, the blockchain technology is not unhackable.

This is fundamentally wrong.
This shows how much the author of the video really knows about cryptocurrencies. Whenever I tried to show more knowledge than I have, I failed miserably. The whole "X Bitcoins have been stolen" makes it look from the outsider perspective like someone could push a button and magically scrap the balance off your wallets without having much data about them.
2110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Picasso artwork sold for crypto on: June 10, 2020, 12:02:24 PM
Same perception, I am 99% its not one of Picasso. He should at least taken here so the acting would be looks real. Pablo Picasso Painting
It's supposed to be Picasso. His art is very well known by some of his top & still living fans and the only thing we have about this painting is a name that appears nowhere on the Internet and a picture you can't even find in a high resolution. Hell, it could be even photoshop! I'd give it a better search but it's honestly not even worth my time. I mean, even if it was legit.. all this would prove is that the creator (or whatever his position is) likes spending crypto funds on luxury items "just 'cos he can" Smiley

the whole idea is just laughable.
Might become the new kind of internet flexing if more shitcoin creators follow..
2111  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Interview with Stake.com CEO Reveals Plans for Tether Betting + New Games. on: June 10, 2020, 09:05:39 AM
I wonder though if there are betting sites that have the feature that can allow players to switch between coins on the same site.
PlayBetr and PrimeDice allow it, if you're talking about swapping between your balances of different coins. That doesn't mean you're allowed to exchange currencies though (on PrimeDice you can't, I'm not so sure about PlayBetr although I think they don't have an exchange feature either).

Adding this "exchange" feature isn't so easy, especially if you combine it with a gambling site. You could quickly bust your wallet as a casino owner if you get some lucky players unless you go for some partnerships with instant exchanges like Changelly so that you don't have to use your own pockets to swap coins and turn your site into a casino & semi-exchange. Smiley
2112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Picasso artwork sold for crypto on: June 10, 2020, 03:27:58 AM
So why are we supposed to believe that it's a legit drawing of Picasso first and foremost? Because I can literally find nothing about it on the internet and I suppose it should've been somewhere out there besides the articles about this IDON thing, considering it's Picasso's art?

To me it looks more like a fake drawing that wasn't even his, which was "bought" to bring people in to this token..
2113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are at it again. Now attacking large corporations for more money. on: June 10, 2020, 03:08:46 AM
I think it's the other way around, hackers have been targeting large corporations because:

  • They can ask for big ransom money
  • Security is very lax to say the least
  • They can get very sensitive information that they can use to leverage, sell it to dark market for thousands of dollars
  • Companies are embarrassed and will likely to pay

As compare to home based users, which they can get a cheap $30-$100 per ransom. And most of the time they're not paying for it. So it makes sense for a big hacking group to attack large corporations and companies. The bigger the target, the bigger the money they can get.
I wouldn't underestimate. There are many out there who'd give $100 or even $200 for their files to be decrypted, imagine having all the personal pictures & videos since you were a little kid on a HDD and suddenly falling victim to such hack. Besides all of that, if you're lucky enough as a hacker you could even be hired for achieving something only few (or nobody else) have been able to achieve. Smiley

Hackers demanding ransom in BTC have been around for a long time. They've been around ever since the Internet went commercial in fact, but they used to ask for USD/EUR instead. It's not as if since BTC's existence hacks went wild - it's just the MSM shaping up this idea that cryptos are for thieves.
2114  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Senate Bill Proposes $10,000 per Month UBI on: June 10, 2020, 01:59:35 AM
Oh man, I thought you were initially completely ironic until I looked this up and apparently it's legit.. CNBC link is here, but I can't read it (Tor) so I'll reply based on what I read from StraightBusinessNews..

Quote
But the plan calls for providing the financial relief for only as long as the pandemic lasts.

Well, most were hoping it's going to stop now but.. looks like they have other plans for us in mind! Smiley And I thought the COVID relief check was inflationary, well - check this out now! Cheesy I HIGHLY doubt these are plans done in vain. You can't "reopen" the country and make plans for UBI at the same time "for until the virus lasts" considering we're supposedly at the end of it - makes no sense unless.. something else's planned completely unrelated to the plandemic.

The average guy probably doesn't even realize that, with the $10k monthly payment (or inflation), you'll probably sooner or later have a bread loaf cost 5x more than it used to. What's funny is that most are contemplating unemployment because it obviously sounds way better not to work at all and make money sitting at home, lol. Crazy times we're living.

And just "out of pure coincidence", EU is taking UBI into account as well but first wants to propose an Universal Minimum Wage. How much of a coincidence it is that everything now happens at global scale at the same time.. Wink
2115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges not accepting mixed BTC, so is BTC no longer fungible? on: June 10, 2020, 01:43:33 AM
I guess that's the way - seize mixed coins until the owner gives you the required information, if it's considered reasonable at all. Kinda sucks that you'd be using a mixer to earn some anonymity and they seize it and ask you for personal information and put you into some kind of interrogation, doesn't it? It's almost like these exchanges are becoming semi-authorities with some power you really underestimate when registering on their platforms Smiley

I dont know if they can able to trace
if a certain coin would be mixed out several times and been passed on several wallets + sending on other platforms
then receiving back into your wallet then you do make a deposit.
Mixing it once with a higher number of recipients is usually enough to anonymize your coins. But sending it to other platforms and then receiving them back to your wallet means trusting every platform you send to (especially as your coins'd come from multiple mixing and if the platform finds out you'd be even more suspicious than before) and then finally trusting the platform you initially meant to deposit on.

Now there's also a chance you might get screwed if the platforms you've used previously are going to notice the last one about the coin mixing you've done. Then you have fees. It's too much of a hassle. I'd just say don't use mixed coins on any third party platform.
2116  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why people afraid so much about the confirmation's duration? on: June 09, 2020, 09:24:30 PM
Besides the technical stuff o_e_l_e_o has said above, I'll get in this thread with my own, personal concerns:

  • When I have to move funds fast to an exchange, I never really know how much it's going to take exactly until the tx is confirmed. Sometimes had to wait +10hrs for a tx that I wanted to be confirmed within dozens of minutes at last.
  • Trying to make a face-to-face tx and having to wait hours until it's confirmed. Most of the times, the other party will not have enough time to sit next to you and wait until it's confirmed. If they have an Electrum somewhere with a "replace by fee" enabled on it, you could be screwed.

The list must've been longer, but at the moment I can't think of more realistic scenarios you could encounter. The number of times I've had the issue with exchange deposits is larger than I wish it'd be.
2117  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 2020 ANALYSIS of BITCOIN PRICE Can Make You Invincible on: June 09, 2020, 06:51:52 PM
There was little agreement among traders regarding what will quicken crypto's development throughout the following year, with the top answer involving "selection" with 19%. Bitcoin's up and coming splitting came next with 15%,
Wait, what splitting are we talking about precisely? Is there a hard fork I have missed (besides shitcoins that will find themselves buried deep among the thousands of other shitforks)? I'm kinda confused Cheesy

32% of members concurring that "regulation" includes the greatest hazard to crypto
I strongly agree with that. Regulation isn't bad in theory, but does defend the main purpose Bitcoin exists for. You can do face-to-face trading at any given time no matter what the regulations are, sure, but other than that it'd have its useness easily degraded with regulation. We already have a third party when we buy stuff online - getting the government to be a 4th wouldn't be a good thing imo.

I think that although alts usually do exceed BTC's growth temporarily, BTC will continue to be the king no matter what - and I believe the next few pumps will start to show the true power of it. Smiley Although I wish I knew what the outcome will be this year, I think it's great to have a little bit of suspense too. Not sure how much of a future ETH has though to be honest, considering its inflationary structure and infinite supply.

Very interesting survey overall. I'd advise you to put the source somewhere under your OP so you won't be reported for plagiarism.
2118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pentagon War Game Scenario: Bitcoin to Play Major Role on: June 09, 2020, 12:20:22 PM
I am not that "not Fox/CNN/CNBC/Telegram, not real!" guy, but The Intercept is one newsletter I haven't heard of and that doesn't inspire me trust at all. Tried to search both the name of the document and parts of it on DuckDuckGo and can't find much about it at all.

Unless the Pentagon (or some trustworthy source) comes with a statement, I'm going to be very skeptical about the legitimacy of this doc. Its plot sounds very similar to the plot of the TV show Salvation. I understand the darknet could have a very well hidden community of these kind of people, but I highly doubt this is a realistic scenario.

I guess we have amazing and insane hackers active as we speak who are targetting the large corporations, but honestly and realistically.. from hacking a corporation to stealing their bank account balances and magically transferring them into BTC is a long way.
2119  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: #DeGoogle - Luati-va inapoi controlul asupra intimitatii on: June 09, 2020, 11:54:09 AM

2120  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UK rules will hit loot boxes games hard - as they’re turning kids into gamblers. on: June 08, 2020, 03:19:02 PM
Well, parents should guide their own Children at the first place so they will not ended up a broken gambler. In my place, there’s a lot of game addict and most of them are Children who spend the rest of the day playing with their phones. Its really alarming, and this kind of government action is good as long as the intention is to protect the players, developer should also be more concern to the players and not just about collecting money.
Parents probably don't even know that the most recent top-tier games have turned into money-stripping pay-to-win ones. The GTA V Online casino speaks for itself - this is a problem most parents have no idea of unless they spend their time trying to understand what kind of games their kids are playing. You have to keep up with the gaming world to know what's up with a game system.

CoD: Modern Warfare, the recent free-to-play one, has this system of loot crates and being f2p probably brings in a lot of money .. mostly from kids borrowing their parents' credit cards to get some "games". Good to know that a government has had their attention on these systems because they've basically camouflaged gambling into these stupid crates that most of the times only leave kids disappointed anyway.

I don't consider this as gambling because the players or the kids don't earn any money as a reward whenever they will spend money on that game. Because for me, gambling is risking something valuable in exchange for getting something valuable. But since they reward they will get will only be useful in that game, I don't think it's gambling. I mean a lot of games also offer rewards if you will spend money on that game.
You're right, it's not gambling - it's even worse. You spend cash to get fake currencies to receive in-game weapon skins or decals through a mechanism similar to gambling.. and can't even cash out. In other words, you lose any way you take it besides having some pixels on a game that will not be played anymore within 1-2 years. It's honestly horrible and so many children are spending too much money on it - think Fortnite.
