1101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people seem to value 1 full BTC? on: January 10, 2021, 08:02:21 AM
Mostly because there are only so few coins in existence, so owning one entire coin becomes harder and harder as time passes by. Just think how hard it is for the average Joe today to get to own an entire BTC vs how hard it was back in 2016 when it was under $500..
1102  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Cumpara Bitcoin fara KYC: ATM-urile Bitcoin Romania care respecta anonimitatea on: January 10, 2021, 12:06:29 AM
1103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What do we do with finance? (Taxation and Taxes on Bitcoin) on: January 10, 2021, 12:00:41 AM
You have to either talk to some expert so that the actions you make do not go wrong (like completing the wrong form - the authorities will not care that you've made a mistake!) or you go the anonymous, off-grid route where the governments don't know anything about your cryptos. Obviously, the second one is a legal risk.

Not really into taxation, but for example, there is no tax on a particular country before that someone trading and selling bitcoin, then suddenly imposed a tax on cryptocurrency. Will his record in the past should be process too?
Guess that is mentioned in the new law's content. Here in Romania, we have something called "retroactive application" which basically means the law also applies for the past. A retroactively-applied crypto law would mean all your previous crypto actions are affected by it.
1104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The fate of privacy cryptocurrencies on: January 09, 2021, 10:11:07 PM
I honestly see it going two possible ways:
- The same way Bitcoin went (everyone was skeptical, they started banning and trying their best to destroy it and, in the end gave up and just tried regulating it)

or

- The markets will go underground while privacy coins will undergo a ban

Any way we take it, they'll still be used. And what the regulators don't get is that banning a cryptocurrency makes even more people get into decentralized exchanges and trying their best to avoid authorities. You can't ban freedom without consequences.
1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper money vs Digital currency on: January 09, 2021, 09:26:52 PM
You don't have to convince them. That's the thing people don't get - if we want these things to happen naturally, we need to let adoption go on its own. All we can really do is just make things much simpler for the average Joe to understand so that learning about BTC isn't a burden. As years go by, today's children are going to accomodate way easier to blockchain tech than we've been able to. So in my opinion, all we truly need is time.

1107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More records for bitcoin as we welcome 2021. on: January 08, 2021, 10:06:26 PM
To be honest, I'm quite impressed by how high the price currently is. My predicted ATH for 2021 was 80-120k - now I wonder whether I was underestimating the markets, I mean.. we're half-way there already and it's only the second week of January!

I'm normally completely pessimistic when it comes to the short term value of Bitcoin, and I made the prediction that it would drop for a few months a couple of weeks ago. Its lovely to be proven wrong though.
The fact that the "what if this time it's different" idea can actually turn into reality is quite scary and exciting at the same time tho.
1108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Crypto Community.. on: January 08, 2021, 07:44:14 PM
.
Some question's I'd love to ask any of you early bitcoiners:

1.What were your emotions at the time of buying bitcoin?
2.To those that hodl, what were your emotions during massive gains? Did you become nervous and cash out? or did you feel sheer confidence to hodl? Did you have a plan?
3. Did any of you find an old bit of bitcoin you didn't know you had, or that you had forgotten about?
I'm not sure if I classify as an early Bitcoiner, but I've been around since 2013 and that is quite a lot of time honestly. So I'll answer your question as a pretty early Bitcoiner:

1. The first time I've seen it, I honestly thought it'd skyrocket to infinity.. literally. I never thought Bitcoin's price had a ceiling and its amazing historical growth has proven a lot of things so many times. I thought bull markets would never end and BTC will never have bad days. Hell, how wrong was I!

2. I always held BTC during pumps and sold during crashes. Basically the stupidest thing one could make. Hodling has always given me profit, so this is nowadays my main strategy.

3. I personally found a few hundred bucks here and there, but nothing impressive or life-changing.. although I'm quite sure there are a few fractions of BTC still sitting on some of my early accounts. A lot of people mistake early Bitcoiners for whales, without taking into account that for someone back in 2010, a 100% increase meant something close to impossible to happen. Most early adopters sold early, only very very few still haven't sold.
1109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PETITION to list all BTC on exchanges in mBTC on: January 08, 2021, 06:15:33 AM
I'm against it honestly. We've seen what happened to Elrond (ERD) once they've changed their supply by a thousand fold - changing from BTC to mBTC would make a lot of people mistakenly believe we've increased the total supply.

Binance is the best place to convert such big amount without KYC because other p2p platforms will have liquidity issues which may take too longer for the trades to get completed.

Which you planned to buy with bitcoin? Better consider alternatives of USDT like DAI which are truly decentralized.
Well, Binance isn't anonymous nor is it fully KYC-free, at sums as large as almost 800,000$, I am quite sure they will request identity verification to proceed with the withdrawal.

OP, your best bet is Bisq if you really want anonymity and privacy. Exchanges keep your IP and fingerprint besides deposit/withdrawal addresses. It might take a while as liquidity isn't Bisq's best feature, but privacy always has a cost.
1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Pizza... on: January 08, 2021, 04:43:29 AM
Some of us who don't rely on signature campaigns for our next meal actually read this stuff Wink
Please continue to bother.
+1, can confirm that even some of those in sig campaigns actually read this stuff. Just ignore those who don't because to some of us it is a fascinating story. Smiley
1113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dont you think Bittrex ship is sinking???? BTC price is lowest ???? on: January 07, 2021, 05:53:32 PM
But now they sank even deeper (if that's possible) with this Monero story (not that would be the first coin they drop just like that).
Now I withdrew my last few altcoins from there and thinking of removing my account too (I'm not convinced how/if that's possible though).
They made a ton of money after delisting XMR since people either withdrew or sold their coins. Withdrawing means giving Bittrex money, so does selling/purchasing anything over there. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to relist XMR after a while. This is a very simple way to crash a coin and make a ton of money at the same time, in a short timespan.
1114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help a newbie out with the market on: January 07, 2021, 11:50:55 AM
Have you ever calculated how much you would've had if back in 2018 you would've invested in Bitcoin only and held until today? Bitcoin has always proven to provide a profit over the long term. Investing in alts requires a bit of luck honestly. They usually rise when big news are pushed out because adoption rate stays low for most alts anyway, and you'd have to be some kind of crystal ball to know which coin is gonna get the news.

Market cap is kinda useless. All it shows is how much all the coins in existence are worth at the current price. Small market cap does not mean a good investment either - remember, Bitcoin has grown more than 10 times within an year although it's the King of all cryptos.

To invest in a good crypto, research them and find one that you think has a potential to grow massively in the future. One kind of coins I personally think are going to be hugely demanded in the future is privacy coins such as Monero, Firo, BEAM etc.
1115  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin even crash more than 20% in 2021? on: January 07, 2021, 09:57:22 AM
Invest during calm times; watch during hypes and crazy rides. That's how I do it, and it's worked ever since. This "euphoria" you're talking about is pretty risky and damaging - if you take actions during it, you're probably going to mess up.

I wouldn't say it's the end. I honestly believe it's just the beginning! But nobody really knows where the ceiling currently is so just be ready for the crash in case it happens.
1116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For old users: check you abandoned wallets/exchange/other service accounts on: January 07, 2021, 09:51:24 AM
I found around $100 sitting in my old Bisq seed a while ago. Besides that one, most if not all services I've used years ago are down today or have empty account balances.

The only remaining account I am quite sure has some balance from 2014-2015 is Coinbase.. but these f**kers are requesting KYC procedures to access my account (haven't accessed it in more than 5 years) so I'd rather not do it. Probably have up to .05 sitting around there - I still have receipts on my e-mail but it's useless since I am not even allowed to see my balance without giving away personal info..
1117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is there a way I can use a single seed for all my cryptocurrencies? on: January 06, 2021, 11:33:31 PM
So Ledger gives us the ability to use a single 24-word seed for all cryptocurrencies you'd like to hold, which is quite convenient. However, I've been having some trust issues with Ledger lately and the Secure Element (and having to plug an USB device every time I want to make a new tx) makes me feel even more insecure.

I currently have all my crypto holdings anonymized through mixers, Tor, coinjoins, Whonix etc so that all links to my identity are broken; my computers are all running fully free operating systems.. so plugging in a device with a non-open-source component, especially since the device is specifically created for crypto transactions, might be a mistake privacy-wise.

Now I have a few other cryptocurrencies I'm holding besides BTC but I was wondering if there was a way to have only a single seed for all those coins besides Ian Coleman's tool. I have so many papers with a different seed on each for every coin, which becomes quite annoying at one point.. so I thought if there was a way to replicate what Ledger's done with the 24-word seed, it'd be so much easier to use the same one for all my coins.

Any ideas?
1119  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market cap down my $16B within 5 mins on: January 06, 2021, 08:21:55 PM
You're looking at the total mcap of ALL cryptos, not just BTC. There have been worse drops before, especially post hacks (I think even at the beginning of 2020 with the virus), if you take the % into account rather than the money.. although I guess there've been bigger drops in fiat value as well before.

The market can't stand up forever. It needs a moment to breathe every now and then.
1120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin storage safety for full-time traveler on: January 06, 2021, 08:06:19 PM
Avoid Blockchain. Had my funds blocked for around 2 years and, as @o_e_l_e_o said above, customer support is completely useless. I was able to recover my funds only by myself, thanks to a very old backup I had.

Get yourself a hardware wallet and always keep it close to your body rather than in a backpack. If possible, put it inside a zipped pocket to make sure it doesn't fall. You could use it with a phone through OTG (or bluetooth with Nano X) to send crypto and generate new addresses.

Ledger's Nano S is very portable. Most people will probably not even distinguish it from a normal USB stick. Not sure how to properly store the seed tbh, but Nano S has 3 attempts to break the PIN code before it resets automatically. In order for a thief to steal your HW and your funds, they need to know of an unknown exploit to physically extract the seed/privkeys from your Nano or to enter it without a password. You'd probably have to be as "lucky" as winning a million bucks jackpot to have that happening to you.

If you don't plan on actually spending the Bitcoins, what you could do is print your Bitcoin address on a QR code on a piece of paper, laminate it (or engrave it in some metal necklace) and use it as a receiving address.

What I'd do if I were you is.. I'd store the seed phrase at my actual home and carry a HW around the world with me. As long as you don't somehow forget your PIN, you should be fine.
