i have only 1 address and the version is 0.5.19
In that case I'm not sure what the problem is. I haven't used multibit classic to make transactions for a long time because its maximum allowed fees are often too low to get fast confirmations in today's overloaded network. You could try using these instructions to export your private key from multibit and import it into electrum. If multibit is stopping you exporting your key by greying out the menu then try closing it, turning your internet connection off, then starting multibit up again. Start multibit, select the wallet containing your coins, then click "tools", then select "export private keys" as shown in the screenshot. A new tab should open like the one below. Select "do not password protect export file" at the bottom of the window, then click the "export private keys button". Click the windows start button, then copy and paste the line of text below into the search box that appears, then press the enter key to open the hidden folder containing your multibit wallet files. %appdata%\Multibit This is what your search box should look like after you have copied and pasted the line above into it. Inside the folder that opens there should be a file with an extension ending in ".key". Open it in notepad and copy your wallet's private key. In the example file below the private key is the bit in red. # KEEP YOUR PRIVATE KEYS SAFE ! # Anyone who can read this file can spend your bitcoin. # # Format: # <Base58 encoded private key>[<whitespace>[<key createdAt>]] # # The Base58 encoded private keys are the same format as # produced by the Satoshi client/ sipa dumpprivkey utility. # # Key createdAt is in UTC format as specified by ISO 8601 # e.g: 2011-12-31T16:42:00Z . The century, 'T' and 'Z' are mandatory # KwUVsx4nd4UTHUtNTPnLEEqapCFvNiBrVASBZPa1ZvStQbUD87VK 2017-03-26T01:36:45Z # End of private keys After you get your private key use these instructions to import it into electrum. http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#can-i-import-private-keys-from-other-bitcoin-clientsMultibit classic's maximum allowable fees aren't high enough for dealing with today's massive backlog of unconfirmed transactions. It's best to import the private key into electrum, enable dynamic fees in it, and spend your coins from there. That way you will get fast confirmations.

unfortunately on blockcypher it says after entering the transaction id that this transaction is double spent! Whys that? could it be because the update of the wallet?
what should i do now?
edit: this is the id b86301eb3719cd140b794544e23bc548c9ce6c932070f21fc3aee126044f1710
I can only find that transaction ID on blockcypher, and I can't find its double spend on any explorer. That transaction must be very badly propagated through the network, so you could remove it from your wallet and try sending your coins again with a higher fee. If you want that transaction confirmed you could ask the guys who started this thread for help. They offer a free service. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1943939.0

How many addresses does it contain? If you generate a lot of addresses and keep them all open in classic it can take a long time to sync. If you close all but one of them it should sync faster.
Also what version of classic are you using? Older versions can take longer to sync. The latest version is fastest at syncing.

Are we trying to push up or am I being a bit optimistic?
I'm usually completely wrong.
We used to expect a weekend dump, but it pushed up during a few weekends recently. Maybe Bitcoin will surprise us and push up again this weekend. It's only $100 below the ATH.
|
|
|
sorry for pushing
If the transaction doesnt show up in the block explorer, can i safely delete the transaction with the "abandon transaction " function ?
Check for your transaction on all these block explorers. If it's badly propagated it might only show on one of them. If it doesn't show on any of them you can delete the transaction from your wallet. https://blockchain.info/https://www.blocktrail.com/BTChttps://live.blockcypher.com/btc/

Can someone please help me. I have 1 casascious Bitcoin that I want to redeem but I cannot find where I can redeem it with my private code?
Install the electrum wallet on your computer and import your private code (private key) into it. Since version 2.6 electrum supports importing the type of mini private key format that casascius coins use. https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES Release 2.6
*snip*
Support minikeys as used in Casascius coins for private key import and sweeping
Use these instructions to install electrum and import your private key into it. Download electrum from this page and import your key into that. https://download.electrum.org/2.7.18/If you are running windows then download the portable version, create a new folder, and run it in that. https://download.electrum.org/2.7.18/electrum-2.7.18-portable.exeUse the settings shown in these screenshots. Import your private key into the window shown below, then just keep clicking the next button on the successive screens and leave the settings at their defaults. Afterwards electrum should sync almost immediately and show you your casascius coin's balance.

Thank you HCP. It was a real pain, but thanks to your scripts I was able to recover a fraction of a BTC that was sent to my Mutlibit 0.5.18 installation. And I couldn't access the wallet file anymore due to the error message Could not load the wallet file "C:\..." The error message was "null"
I had to use the full command line to Python (so c:\Pytohn27\python dectrypt_..." instead of just "python") to make it work. I got the decripted keys, wrote them off the screen (copy-pasting didn't seem to work in MS-DOS) and sweeped them into Electrum. So thank you again for your help! It's great you got your coins back. If you want to copy-paste from the command line then click the small icon at the top left of the command window. A menu appears that you can use to select everything, then copy it. Alternatively you can select something, then press your enter key to copy it.

I hope all of you have realized that most everyone in the bitcoin community is completely wrong about this scaling nonsense. This six month bull run in the face of a scaling nightmare only proves how meaningless scalability is to Bitcoin.
I doubt half the newbies discovering Bitcoin even know how to use a wallet yet. Most of them won't know or care about scalability. They just hear how much its increased in value since $150 and buy on an exchange. Last summer people said Bitcoin would crash because of the scalability debate, but the bull run's kept on going for a year since then.

multibit IS online and synched - so no idea why export doesn't work.
Sometimes it has to be offline to export the keys. I don't know why, that's just my experience of how it can work. I wouldn't consider upgrading until you make a backup, and I would advise against upgrading to the latest multibit classic. The guy who started the linked thread waited for three days for his multibit classic transaction to confirm. Eventually he had to pay a miner to get it confirmed. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1909433.0This is the transaction. https://blockchain.info/tx/026ca669edad3ab32320b22688694f89b873bc068e4cbc8cd7ce73d2daf552c5Although the network was more overloaded in early May the number of unconfirmed transactions could suddenly increase and leave a multibit classic transaction stuck in limbo. The latest version of multibit classic has a slider which you can use to increase the fee. This quote explains it, but the maximum it will let you pay is 0.0005 BTC per KB which isn't enough at times when the network's extremely overloaded. The latest multibit classic (0.5.19) has a fee slider in the preferences. It's maximum possible fee is 0.0005 BTC per KB, and there are times when that's not high enough to get a fast confirmation. This is a screenshot of it. For a transaction sending one input to one receiving address and a change address paying a fee of 0.0005 BTC per KB would result in you paying a fee of about 0.0001 BTC for a transaction, which is about 28 cents. That's nine times lower than the fee this website recommends to get fast confirmations. https://bitcoinfees.21.co/If you switch to electrum and use its dynamic fees feature your transactions won't get stuck in limbo. If you still want to risk upgrading to the latest version of classic there's a guide here. https://multibit.org/help/v0.5/help_upgrading.html

when proceeding as you mention no files are transferred. behind the icon on multibit 'export private keys' there's an 'xed out' circle - meaning they don't allow me to export keys?
can I see the key somewhere? then i'll note it manually - that's better than nothing.
thanks!
Try turning your internet connection off, then restarting multibit a few times. Sometimes that fixes the greyed out menu problem. Multibit wallet doesn't need to be online or synced to export the private keys. It can export them when offline and unsynced.

where can i find my keys in multibit to at least manually note them as a backup?
Use these instructions, but click the button labelled "export to". A pop up window should open which you can use to select the folder you want your .key file written to, and what name you want to give your .key file. Each .key file contains a private key. Start multibit, select the wallet containing your coins, then click "tools", then select "export private keys" as shown in the screenshot. A new tab should open like the one below. Select "do not password protect export file" at the bottom of the window, then click the "export private keys button". Inside the folder you selected there should be a new file with an extension ending in ".key". Thanks thats an interesting idea.
Any ideas on the other problem I'm having: How to speed up the download and processing of it? Its using up all my disk and most of the time is not downloading anything.
I don't have much experience of using core so others can give you better advice. Ranochigo advised another user to increase the dbcache, but I don't know if that's applicable to your wallet. Achow101 who is the moderator of this board knows as much about core as anyone. If you read through his posts I'm sure you can find an answer. *snip*
If you were to increase the dbcache, the client can use a lot more ram and the process will be sped up drastically.
Go to File>Option and go to the dbcache field and key in (its in MB) however much ram you want to use. Take note that for whatever you keyed in, the number should not exceed the amount of ram that is free in MB. Next, just restart the client.

Can you confirm you are using multibit classic version 0.5.14, and not multibit HD? If you are using classic then the version of multibit you are using is out of date. The Bitcoin network rules changed since that wallet was released. Your wallet might generate transactions that the network will no longer accept. Also even the latest version of classic isn't capable of paying high enough fees to get fast confirmations in today's overloaded network. I suggest you install the electrum wallet, export your private keys from multibit classic and import them into electrum. https://electrum.org/#downloadThere are instructions for switching to electrum in this post. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1922317.msg19181835#msg19181835

You can send coins if your wallet has downloaded enough of the blockchain to see they were deposited in one of its addresses. You don't have to wait until the whole blockchain is fully downloaded. If you want faster access to your coins you can use the instructions in the quote to switch to using an electrum wallet. If you don't want to wait you can use these instructions for switching to using an electrum wallet. Electrum syncs almost immediately and lets you spend your coins almost immediately. Bitcoin core can take days to sync. Click file, then receiving addresses. Find the address you sent coins to in the window that opens, right click it, and select copy address. Close the addresses window. Click help, then debug window. In the debug window that opens click console. In the text box at the bottom of the window type dumpprivkey yourAddresswhere yourAddress is the address you sent coins to and copied earlier. Press your enter key. The private key for that address should appear in the console window. Copy it. This is an example private key. L48toSntMVhC2az4KAQCWscrQGfPbT55yCgzM5cmx9Ao69pTdwrq Download and install electrum. https://electrum.org/#downloadImport your private key into it using these instructions. http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#can-i-import-private-keys-from-other-bitcoin-clientsAfterwards your coins should be spendable.

Ive got same problem. Ive got 0.0044 but can only spent 0.0022... Thats 5.5$ Fee to send 5.5$. Looks like a ripoff...
That happens when you get a lot of micro payments that in the end make the total amount 0.0044 btc. By sending a lot of micro payments to your electrum wallet or any other good desktop wallet you add more bytes to your transaction fees. Nowadays a recommended transaction fee is about 500 satoshi/byte so the more bytes you transaction has the more fee you have to pay. It is not a ripoff, Electrum is one of the best if not the best free desktop wallet. If you don't pay a high fee per byte rate then your transaction could be pending for weeks or forgotten by the network. The starter of this thread had to wait over two and a half weeks for his transaction to confirm because he paid a low fee. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1920603.0In the past the network usually forgot transactions after three days, but something's recently changed and people are sometimes waiting weeks for a confirmation. That high fee might seem a rip off, but it's preferable to having your coins stuck in limbo for weeks.

this has gone plain nuts the last few weeks. my god guys, take a breather!
A month ago we were at $1750 and a month later we are complaining that its dipped back down to $2760. It's been a roller coaster of a month, nuts in the last few weeks, but it's worth all the stress to get to $2760.

I am aslo have 1 transaction more than 2 weeks, search in blockchain.info , not found already
Try searching for it in blockcypher.'s explorer. It often shows double spend or forgotten transactions that blockchain.info won't show. https://live.blockcypher.com/

well this is a question that is made many many times... any actual news for this small dump? please try to keep your troll inside you calm. i would like a normal-real answer i know it's hard but you can do it... i searched all over the net and nothing.... and i see some resistance building already... maybe some pump for alts or something? all I found was this tweet about a (34 million USD) long that got margin called on OKcoin https://twitter.com/CollinCrypto/status/872574817798684672 The fiat currency markets are panicking about the ECB meeting and UK election tomorrow, plus next week's Federal Reserve meeting. Maybe the panic's contagious and spread to the Bitcoin markets. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-global-forex-idUSKBN18Y03A"Currency markets are watching the UK election, the ECB meeting tomorrow and then casting eyes forward to the Federal Reserve meeting next week," said Bill Northey, chief investment officer at the private client group of U.S. Bank in Helena, Montana.
Traders also remained watchful ahead of Thursday's U.S. Senate testimony of James Comey, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation sacked by President Donald Trump in May.

how can i do that? am i allowd to just load the new version and install it in the qt directory? do i need to download the blockchain again? sorry for that ton of question but dont want to make a mistake her edit: obv. i can read the manual but it is only for core updating dont know if its the same with qt to core? Download the latest version of core and install it. It can detect use the blockchain files and wallet.dat from your existing version of core (qt). You should probably backup your wallet.dat file before doing anything (if you haven't already backed up). https://bitcoin.org/en/download
