A demonstration will come by a customer very soon, if you wish to wait until then, go ahead; but you then run into the risk of not making into batch #2

That one line just screams "scam".

Yep, I can't get past it. I'm glad he said it as it makes it easy for me to sit on my hands if/when their 2nd batch order window opens. I cannot send them funds if those are the conditions.
2182  Other / Archival / Re: btt on: January 29, 2013, 02:02:21 PM
Agreed, this is very peculiar. The scarce components have been changed from resistors and capacitors to inductors(coils) and mosfets(transistors), but this just brings up more questions. Such as:

How did he confuse these components? What's rare about inductors & mosfets?
How did they not see this supply shortage previously? CNY dates are not a secret nor is batch #2's shipping date.

This reminds me of poor business practice or successful poker play. Force your opponents to make uncomfortable decisions.

This creepy post and a couple others have created a flurry of controversy on Avalon's thread:

I'm not imposing anything. A demonstration will come by a customer very soon, if you wish to wait until then, go ahead; but you then run into the risk of not making into batch #2, and where if I don't open orders now, I run into the issue not able to order parts before CNY, which has a pretty long lead time.

It seems there'll be no demos, no 3rd party reviews, not even any tracking numbers to confirm product shipment prior to batch #2 opening(...and presumably selling out).

2184  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL, Box of fans and Avalon trolling: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Ships on: January 29, 2013, 08:03:56 AM
A) Designed an exceptionally inferior product
B) Purchased said product
C) No one has received said product
D) No one has received a tracking number
E) No one has received the product for review, even a test unit

Basically, you have paid for the same service you are bitching about BFL for, but you've paid for an inferior product.  Yeah, and I'm emotionally invested.
Actually you are describing BFL.

No, that doesn't really fit well at all.

A) BFL wins on power usage (and therefore longterm profitability) hands down.

Can we possibly wait till BFL actually *HAS* a power spec to determine this? Must we cover the company's history of erroneous power claims again? To summarize...it sucks.

I'm not ready to call this bitcoin bubble #2 just yet...

i think its likely we will see the same kind of action we saw at 7.20
we'll keep touching this high 19.xx even 20! and then Crash!
repeat as needed b4 inevitably going into a down trend settling above 13$  ( hopefully below 15...)

breaking 19 tonight would be very surprising...some buy my ask! please, i need to do some damage control on my short!  Wink

Yes...unprecedented. Keep those accurate predictions coming buddy. Grin

Last I heard they still had some MMQs available. It was a post by buzzdave on BTCFPGA's official forum however and I believe they've all been deleted.
2187  Other / Archival / Re: btt on: January 28, 2013, 06:05:28 AM
Hello,

Yes, the plan to invest in ASIC mining hardware if & when it becomes available remains in place. The company has over 400BTCs in reserve for this very purpose. Thus far the ASICalypse as you so colorfully put it has been rather...lethargic.
2188  Other / Archival / Re: btt on: January 27, 2013, 09:24:00 PM
Daily dividend of 0.32140173 paid.

The second 7770 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, so time permitting I'll get it up and running and we should see a modest bump in dividends going forward.

Cheers.

He made about 53BTC from my orders alone, by refunding a smaller amount of BTC than I sent.  (I was refunded only USD equivalent, even though I could care less about USD).  It's a major scam to those of us who like me, aren't surprised at all at BTC going up (& the USD collapsing).   Esp. considering we were mis-informed about the project from start to finish.

I know, and I agree the BTC/USD conversion rate of refunds is a problem. I'm still waiting on my BTC refund btw as I watch the exchange rate climb. I believe it was around $12.75 when I paid. Sad This is a problem with all of the vendors however and the thread is about BTCFPGA. At this point I'll just be happy to get my funds out even with the exchange rate bath.

I really don't want to be in a position of defending any of the vendors, I'm as p1ssed about the lack of professionalism exhibited as anyone else. Sadly they're all being run like shady back alley pawn shops and just when you thought Avalon was the group of professionals amidst a sea of rank amateurs they pull this shipping/dead quiet crap. Roll Eyes

If it is or was an outright scam they've a spot reserved on world's dumbest crooks as they're refunding people's money.
2191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 27, 2013, 08:43:37 PM
Why $19 when you can simply move that "imaginary" wall to the moooooon?

19$ is the moon today.

...and if when $19 is breached(again) you'll just mark $20 as the "new moon". When you're so oft wrong in a thread it leads to credibility fail. At least vow to eat a hat or something if/when $19 falls. Wink

i will not eat a hat!

if price goes >= 19$ i will sell another 10BTC

 Grin

Doubling down on your mistakes will not make them less obvious or costly. At least add something to your sig to indicate your consistently incorrect observations. Someone new is liable to come along and take you seriously.  Cheesy

Thanks for adding highlighting of Top Bid/Lowest Ask when it's mine on Market screen.  Any chance of adding it in the Portfolio screen too?

+several. HUGE timesaver. Yer the man burnside!

Didn't Josh say their engineers get nada if they don't produce? Odd if any respectable engineer works that way, but I do recall it being said.

No BTW, I'm not going fishing for it. ;p I get queasy going through pages of BFL fabricated bs.

I also don't believe JZ is just a little Indian within the organization. If that were the case he'd have been sh1tcanned long ago for grotesque incompetence.

all of a sudden 25% less chips.

LOL a moving target can be expected when someone really doesn't know when things will be done.

Next it will be that the mini rigs will be 0.9Th/s instead of 1.5TH/s and the power will be 50% higher than expected.

WHAT?!? BFL wrong about a specification estimate? ...surely you jest. Please cite 12 examples of something a BFL rep said that turned out to be inaccurate, then find 12 moar. I'll give you 90 seconds which should be more than enough time. Tongue
2196  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Ships on: January 27, 2013, 07:55:39 PM
Why are all the ASIC vendors so shady? They're building BTC mining devices not thermonuclear warheads. Stop with the secrecy, excuses, and bs and tell people what is going on already.
2197  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The bASIC Refund Tracking Thread on: January 27, 2013, 07:11:43 AM
I received a full refund of the CC portion of my order at close of business yesterday. They(Dave) is most definitely doing what he says he is.
Hey,
Where are you sending those BTC/Dollars next?

Dunno yet. Waiting for proof of something from somebody. I have a preference for Avalon at this point as I don't trust BFL at all.
2198  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The bASIC Refund Tracking Thread on: January 26, 2013, 10:56:56 PM
I believe they'll be returned and we'll just have to eat the opportunity cost/exchange rate losses. I think Tom just got in way over his head and didn't know what to do. There's already been a wave of BTC refunds & lots of CC refunds. If as Dave says the bulk of the orders were in CC then the BTC balance outstanding probably isn't all that huge. Surely Tom's reputation is worth more to him than the remaining BTCs owed those that trusted him. If he meant to just rabbit with all the BTCs then why the wave of BTC refunds?

I'm still a bit pissed at Tom for stringing me along, but if he returns what's mine, and I believe he will, I'll get over it.

And what happens when the funds run out?

No idea, but obviously there's evidence of intent to repay. We may just have to be patient.

Order #1345 CC refund received.

Hopefully the BTC refund goes as smoothly when Dave gets that far. Smiley
