222  Economy / Goods / Ostrich and Crocodile Leather Wallets, Belts, Bags, Phone Pouches and more! on: November 29, 2013, 02:05:01 AM
Starting on this forum and Bitmit, I've been trading African goods and art for Bitcoin under the Gold Rhino name - because gold and rhinos are both great things to save!

Now I'm happy to announce the new, Bitcoin-only Gold Rhino webstore with smooth BitPay processing.

I still carry all my previous goods (including handmade, Zulu beadwork BTC-symbol keychains) plus a whole lot more! Bitcoin leather mousepads are coming soon, and more speciality Bitcoin items are in development.

Here's a brief sampling from my current 55 or so products:

Ostrich Leather Laptop Bag

Crocodile Leather Belts

Ostrich Leather Phone Pouch

Kudu Leather Wallet

Crocodile Leather Travel Bag

Check out the site for lots more. I guarantee the quality and authenticity of all Gold Rhino products. Compare my prices to fiat-based competitors to see how buying direct from Africa for Bitcoin saves you a fortune!

223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll to switch over to mbtc on: November 28, 2013, 09:29:16 AM

I think if we re-denominate to mBTC, then the media sources will use the market cap rather than the exchange rate. The current market cap is around $11.66 billion. In future, media will report like "BTC breaks $25 billion market cap" and such.

So there is no problem with media publicity.

I disagree. The media likes price charts, especially the damn Gox chart. I'd rather they use Bitstamp or, even better, an average across exchanges. But they won't change that, and they certainly won't change to market cap reporting for our convenience. Switching to mBTC would totally confuse the layperson, they'd be like "Bitcoin was $1000 and now it's $1? It's crashed omg!"
224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Oh, Great! Assassination Paid For With Bitcoins- "Assassination Market" on: November 28, 2013, 09:09:06 AM
This was first proposed by crypto-anarchists in the 90's. I think we can put a check next to their idea of anonymous black markets too. One thing still outstanding (as far as I know) is a marketplace for state and corporate secrets.

Currently reading Andy Greenberg's "This Machine Kills Secrets," it offers fascinating background on the ideas and ideology which have given rise to Bitcoin, among other things.
225  Economy / Services / Re: John (John K.)'s escrow service (previously known as johnthedong) on: November 25, 2013, 04:38:36 PM
Edited by Sir Lagsalot 2013/11/28:

Still waiting. Sad

I emailed John K. and he released the funds almost at once. I guess he had a lot of private messages and overlooked mine.

So long as John's clear about his future obligations, I'd use his escrow service again. But I am gonna skip the tip this time.

226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Email local businesses around you!!!! on: November 22, 2013, 10:44:18 PM
What I found gets businesses interested is contacting them with an offer to resell their products in Bitcoin. Of course, you should only do this if you have the intent and ability to follow through.

Whether they ultimately accept or not, about 1 in 5 businesses will take the opportunity to ask about Bitcoin. Often they're interested from seeing it in the news but don't have the time to research / implement it themselves. Or they're conservative and don't want to take a risk on new systems; but they're happy for someone else to take that risk so they can gauge the market.
227  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where's John K? on: November 13, 2013, 06:57:25 PM
He did mention an offline lawyer who was supposed to be his backup, and has instructions on how to do the escrow. But that was when he was still in Malaysia.
Dabs, if you have the contact details for this lawyer, perhaps we could consider a reasonable timeframe in which to approach them?
228  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitmit - Bitcoin shopping mall - Bitcoin market place - Bitcoin auction house on: November 08, 2013, 05:51:11 PM
I will miss Bitmit if it closes, really hope it finds a new owner because it has a lot of potential.
229  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where's John K? on: November 07, 2013, 09:59:44 AM
I have a small sum from sale of goods pending release.
230  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How do you earn your bitcoins? on: November 04, 2013, 10:55:20 AM
Freelance writing (convinced my existing clients to pay me in BTC) and selling goods for BTC via this forum and Bitmit.

Earning in an appreciating currency is great. Offer your boss or clients a discount if they pay you in Bitcoin. You'll increase awareness and eventually make more profit (if price keeps rising).
231  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ** STEAM GAMES FOR BITCOIN ** huge list, prices lower than retail ** NEW GAMES! on: October 19, 2013, 02:47:58 AM
I'm keen on Chivalry: Medieval Warfare at the sale price. Sent you a message on the Bitmit side.

This may relate: Panama announces 5 day bank 'holiday.'

Whether or not savers wake up Tuesday to find they just saved the bankers country, 5 days is a major inconvenience - especially around payday.

OK, and here's feedback from a sale of 4 BTC I did on LocalBitcoins.

Incorporating some Bitmit feedback:

235  Economy / Reputation / Sir Lagsalot reputation thread on: August 26, 2013, 12:27:54 PM
Starting a proper rep thread so people who don't know me can trade with confidence. If I've sold you Bitcoin or products, please post here and tell everyone how it went.
236  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BTC/ZAR Exchange? (Bitcoin/South African Rand) on: August 23, 2013, 07:20:21 PM
I've traded on BitX about ten times and recommend them. I wrote this review of their service if you want more info.

Is the owner of BitX a member of this forum?

I don't know. But I believe there are two owners. They were on Reddit.
237  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Crocodile, Lawrence Boxes, Wildebeest Hangings - hand-carved in Africa! on: August 18, 2013, 08:50:25 PM
Hey guys, I'm back with some more quality handmade goods for my Gold Rhino range! Don't be shy to order from Africa and help me promote Bitcoin here! I'm still relatively new but I've had all good trades so far:

I have a couple of pending trades from this forum, when those complete I'll consolidate everything into a proper rep thread.

OK, that said I think it's time to sell a few slightly larger and more expensive items here! First up is this big Crocodile that's eating a Bitcoin beaded keychain (not to scale) - this is a cool thing to put along your balcony or shelf by your widescreen TV. It's well-varnished against sun / elements so also good for the garden.

I'm not putting an exact price on this yet, but around . Feel free to make offers but tbh it's heavy (I'd guess 10 kilos) so will be pricy to ship. If it tickles your fancy and you make a fair bid, I'll figure out how to weigh it and we can negotiate. Smiley

Next we have these cool boxes carved by Lawrence, called Lawrence Boxes (tried to think of a better name). He's got a skilled hand and combines rounded cartoony shapes with good detail and cut-out space. As you can see, it's in two pieces. This one is quite big, good for keeping things like socks, tennis balls and grenades in an exotic fashion. I sell this for + shipping.

And here is a slightly smaller Lawrence Box. This goes for + shipping. Elephants, cheetah, rhinos, this piece is a menagerie of win.

Here's another carving by Lawrence. This one is of a majestic Blue Wildebeest (I sell hide from the real thing in my webstores). This is great to hang on walls to increase their rustic grandeur. plus shipping is the price.

Finally, here are some hand-woven wicker baskets. This is another traditional craft item here, they even do very nice furniture this way. Depth is hard to read from the pic, but I'd say at least 100 mm. from memory. These are a steal at plus shipping (minimal, they're very light).

Item is now at sort facility HARARE - ZIMBABWE according to DHL tracking.

Great, I'm sure this will create a lot of curiosity about Bitcoin!
