@ CfB

Can the network expand beyond the 360,000 msg per Day limit?

Yes

1. How many messages per. day is the next limit after the present one?

2. When will this limit be expanded?

U develop an application that uses AM to publish bets info. Others use other app to see this info and place bets. U pay winnings when the time comes.

I;m not really in the betting business...but just wanted to know the process.

Guys, will the decentralized exchange be able to support sports betting? How would this work?
Is a third party needed?
Could he be in stealth mode?  Cool

Arbitrary Messages can be used for sports betting.
Both, the bettor and the service provider, can be in stealth mode (via Tor, for example).

How does one become a service provider?

Brainstorming

I'd like to introduce a concept of a new feature called Account Control. This feature will allow to do different things with ur accounts. For example, u will be able to set a lock on an account to prohibit any outgoing transactions until a special condition met (e.g. an incoming transaction from a predefined account). Another example is Pooled Forging, when an account leases its forging power to another account.

Please, post here what u would like to see in Account Control.

+1

now ur talking

I dont think it's worth to release the one of the hottest and wanted functions of NXT (P2P messages) with so many restrictions which 'll seriously limit its usage.

- Message volume is limited by its price (1 NXT per message)
- Message volume is limited by NXT protocol itself, so even with message price correction:

10 messages per hour per each user = 240 messages * 1500 users = 360,000 messages.

So, are we going to release some marketing trick or real P2P messaging revolution? What a joke!

Could anyone tell me , who is your niche for P2P message delivery with the price of 1 NXT?  Edward Snowden ? Julian Assange ? Who else?

So ?

Agree.

We shouldn't confuse messages as a way to send data to a person with arbitrary messages as a way to store data on the blockchain. They r completely different.

People are confused already.

Then lets rename 'message' to 'data store' and define this function as P2P information storage available for selected number of recepients Smiley

Messaging is mentioned NOWHERE in the above announcement.

Why is it necessary to announce IP address of forging nodes? Every node is forging, or not?

Senders must know where to send transactions to. If they broadcasted them to all the nodes we would need petabyte links.

we dont; really need MASS MESSAGING  @ 10,000 per Sec. rate at the moment.

We need 100 TX per. Sec. Max.....AT THIS POINT!

That would allow 8 million transaction in 24 hours.....would this be doable?

No, current limit is 360'000 messages in 24 hours.

Great!....thats alot to begin with

EDIT: Let's make it happen  Grin

Messaging is ready?

CfB is testing it right now
2214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 08, 2014, 08:47:14 AM
I'm testing Arbitrary Messages right now, btw...

Would sending a message to someone cost a transaction fee? Like 1 NXT to send a text message for instance?

Sending a message via Arbitrary Messaging does cost 1 NXT fee. Doing the same via Service Providers is much cheaper coz paid by a subscription.

remove service providers from this equation....we don't have time....lets code this thing in and move...

1) APPS can be built fast

2) Messaging is ready

3) Fee structure can be coded in fast

Lets not wait for this service provider....this will only slow us down.

2215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 08, 2014, 08:40:25 AM
Can;t we code it so that to send a msg from your account to one other alias within 1440 blocks.....you only pay 1 nxt.

to send to new alias/account you must pay another 1 Nxt.

EDIT: Nxt Messenger Faucet linked to website would give 10 fee Nxt for downloading the app.

Interesting idea, let's brainstorm it.
can it be coded into the current setup?
2216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 08, 2014, 08:38:48 AM
Just make Nxt divisible by 2 or 3 decimal places and use the smallest possible unit for sending messages as to make the cost trivial.

Lower fee makes spam attacks cheaper.

Still to some it would be 2000 messages or in the future maybe less with price increase. -gotta think of the little people.

its basically 1 nxt every day to talk to another alias/account....how is that expensive

Edit: It would only be expensive if you intend to spam...

I like the idea, but you need Nxt to send messages...

Is this positive or negative?

I think negative as this means that messaging is NOT for free, like using viber.

BUT it is anonymous. The question is if people are willing to pay for it?!

I;m sure those who require anonymous messaging would....but fee structure should also change .001 Nxt to make it cheap.

I'm for pushing this ASAP and modify as we go.....maybe market will feel 1 Nxt per message is very cheap for the services provided...via Aliases
