I'm testing Arbitrary Messages right now, btw...

Would sending a message to someone cost a transaction fee? Like 1 NXT to send a text message for instance?

Sending a message via Arbitrary Messaging does cost 1 NXT fee. Doing the same via Service Providers is much cheaper coz paid by a subscription.
Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

so the system is not made for mass messaging, right?

Incorrect. The current state of the network can't handle mass messaging.

Why? What needs to be done to process 10k transactions/minute?

We need a way to announce IP address of forging nodes (or their gateways). This requires new features on the protocol level.

Can;t we code it so that to send a msg from your account to one other alias within 1440 blocks.....you only pay 1 nxt.

to send to new alias/account you must pay another 1 Nxt.

EDIT: Nxt Messenger Faucet linked to website would give 10 fee Nxt for downloading the app.

Interesting idea, let's brainstorm it.
can it be coded into the current setup?

Dunno, need to think more about it.

remove service providers from this equation....we don't have time....lets code this thing in and move...

1) APPS can be built fast

2) Messaging is ready

3) Fee structure can be coded in fast

Lets not wait for this service provider....this will only slow us down.

Why is it necessary to announce IP address of forging nodes? Every node is forging, or not?

Senders must know where to send transactions to. If they broadcasted them to all the nodes we would need petabyte links.

It's part of the "transparent forging" thing. Everyone on the network knows who will forge the next block. This enables them to send their transactions directly to the forger so they get included in a block right away.

we dont; really need MASS MESSAGING  @ 10,000 per Sec. rate at the moment.

We need 100 TX per. Sec. Max.....AT THIS POINT!

That would allow 8 million transaction in 24 hours.....would this be doable?

EDIT: 50 tx per sec. MAX....would allow 4 million transactions in 24 hours..

Q:  How would you solve problem with scam accusations according to "unfair" distribution Nxt to 73 big stakeholders?
A:  This problem can not be solved.  Even if we had a million stakeholders the rest seven billion people would call this unfair.  A world with the money can not be perfect.

To my great surprise, my question have been passed to BCNext. I am glad and have satisfied with answer.  Smiley

Closure On The EpicThomas Attack Of 31 Dec 2013

Good work on tracking down the person responsible for uploading a dodgy client.

But, it doesn't sit right with me that EpicThomas has to (partially) compensate Framewood. Someone is responsible for Framewood's rogue transaction, but AFAIK there's zero evidence that it's EpicThomas.
