2221  Economy / Services / Re: [Looking for] C++ OpenGL/GLUT programmer - simple job on: June 07, 2013, 02:16:06 PM
If you're used to GLUT/OpenGL this is an easy job for you and shouldn't take long. If you complete the job I'll pay you $15 (convert to BTC later)
That pay is way too low. Expect at least $50 considering this is coded from scratch.
2222  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Yet another Coin Control Release on: June 07, 2013, 01:52:23 PM
grue, cozz, what's the difference between your builds? cozz is smaller (probably compressed) and doesn't include the warning message. But otherwise, are they the same?
mine is based on sipa's branch, but it's otherwise the same as 0.8.2. The warning about not being a release version is there because I was too lazy to edit it out. Also, cozz's build is packed with UPX, hence why it's so small.
2223  Economy / Services / Re: VPs Hosting on: June 07, 2013, 01:44:28 PM
How much should I charge
I can get a cheap VPS (2.0 ghz x1 core, 512mb ram, 25GB HDD, 100/100 connection) for around $8. Considering your bandwidth is very low, a fair market price would be $3.
2224  Economy / Services / Re: VPs Hosting on: June 07, 2013, 01:32:24 PM
I Said I will upgrade specs, What specs do you recommend me to add?
Here are some $90 offerings from a very reputable dedicated server provider: https://i.minus.com/ikPl0qcyfNnvG.png. if you want to be competitive, you'll need to lower your prices significantly or provide better specs. Keep in mind that offering a service in bitcoins does not justify a high mark-up. For all I know, you could be converting the bitcoins straight to paypal and buying from a third party host.
2225  Economy / Services / Re: VPs Hosting on: June 07, 2013, 01:21:24 PM
for $40 you can get a dedicated server with better specs. why would anyone pay more than 100% markup?

2236  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockRun.com - Penny auctions on the blockchain on: June 04, 2013, 11:39:19 PM
Actually, this does not work like a Penny Auction. In a penny auction, you always bid a fixed amount. Here you have to pay the actual amount you are willing to pay immediately instead of bidding $1 a hundred times.

So, it works differently, and it's easier for "gamblers" to see what they spend and what they get in return.
It still falls under the umbrella of bidding fee auction or "all pay" auction.

Why is everyone ignoring the pretty serious scam warning?
because they think using escrow will mitigate the risk.

Can we have some context on how it was used?

Also:

While overall usage of gotos has been declining, there are still situations in some languages where a goto provides the shortest and most straightforward way to express program's logic (while it's possible to express the same logic without gotos, the equivalent code will be longer and often more difficult to understand).

These situations include: multi-level breaks, resource allocation/deallocation, error handling in C language, computed goto in Perl language.[15][16]
2240  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Does your Bitcoin-Qt v0.8.2 takes 5 mins to verifying block database integrity? on: June 04, 2013, 01:44:20 AM
Even faster, but possibly more dangerous tweak

Code:
checkblocks=1
checklevel=0

Someone tell me what the checklevels stand for? from 0 to 4? And does it affect the running bitcoin-qt client or only upon start up? Because if I had my client running yesterday, then I launch it for today, and it checks the previous blocks without downloading new blocks, what's the harm?

New blocks will get verified and checked as they arrive, don't they? Or does this checklevel affect new blocks too? If it does, then that could be dangerous since new blocks might be fake.

But if it doesn't, I save time.

I know, that my blocks from yesterday are all good. More or less.
checklevel and checkblocks is only done at startup. it's to verify the block database haven't been damaged/tampered with.
