2241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC miner optimizations for PowerPC (Power Mac) and Cell/BE (PlayStation 3) on: December 29, 2011, 11:36:31 PM
Wow I was discouraged by the 3 kh/s my i7 can do, if we can pump up some real numbers, I think Litecoin has a future!  I just bought nearly 2000 LTC's for 2 BTC's on BTC-E, we'll see if I look back at this post in a years' time and if that was a good decision.
2242  Other / Meta / Re: DiabloD3's conflict of interest in sticking his thread on: December 29, 2011, 11:34:39 PM
Is he right for wanting to do a complete testing and miner-tuning? YES!

Is it right to sticky the thread? NO!

The people are outraged that someone would want a free 7970, but early testing and tuning the Diablominer to it would earn the community a ton of bitcoin in the future if he could make a 7xxx purr like a 5xxx.  I think it's unlikely but he's right, y'know.  Pay the man, he'll pay you later when you buy twenty 7970s from the store for yourself (you greedy little bastards).

This would be a cool graphic to see once all 21 million coins are out there, and it could be a "complete" island thing.

2252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia's yearly donation campaign; Time to accept Bitcoins? on: December 29, 2011, 05:26:39 PM
I sent a message to Flattr, one of the most used blog tipping services, to start accepting bitcoin, and I got this reply:

Hi

We have had a very long discussion about this, but as bitcoins are something very few uses most people receiving bitcoins would probably not know what to do with them. As the key to flattr is that users should get money, we have decided not to add it.

Regards Linus

If we had a service that took bitcoin and instantly converted it to paypal, we could get the really big companies onboard.  It would be counter-productive because it is giving money to paypal, but it would help the community take notice to bitcoin.  Maybe make a service where the bitcoin is converted into USD or other physical currency and snail-mailed?  I dunno, but Eclipse Mining Consortium has a cool auto-payout feature to Paypal and it would be cool if someone had a similar site that could pay out just as easily.

2255  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Victim of pishing in MtGox on: December 28, 2011, 07:06:45 PM
I have wondered why Mt. Gox doesn't implement an optional irrevocable timer.

User sets a 1 hour to 48 hour delay timer.  Once set this timer can't be removed or reduced without waiting timeout period.

1) User (or attacker makes withdraw attempt)
2) User email (and possible SMS) is notified.
3) Timer engages.  If user set a 24 hour delay then funds will transfer in 24 hours.
4) If transfer is valid then user does nothing and in 24 hours funds will transfer.
5) If transfer if bogus then user aborts the transfer.

Making other "high security" changes would also require notification and delay timer period.
* changing email address
* adding new bank account for wire transfers

Yeah it would be less convenient is user wants to move funds rapidly but it would be user optional.  Users can each choose the compromise between security and convenience.

Thats a damn good idea, you would save so much money from being stolen!

2257  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for loan, $500 to $3000 or more per individual, 1.25% for 3 months on: December 28, 2011, 08:58:14 AM
$3k per person?  At 1.25%?  If you had a genius stock-trading tip that makes you infinite funds--practically a licence to print money--you wouldn't need a loan but you would be the one offering loans.

TRUST ME.  You don't want to owe people money.  Last year I was in a rough spot, I was holding someone's money and these three cute girls totally duped me and got me robbed and I had to repay money that wasn't even mine in the first place...  And I had to sell my TV and a bunch of other stuff, because some people are serious when it comes to debt.  Take LoupGaroux's advice seriously before asking for money.

If anyone loans this person money I hope they let it be public so we can make a bet on www.betsofbitco.in an we can bet for or against the repayment.
It takes time to "print money". Say you can make 100% a yr, but you only have $5, that makes you $5 a yr. But if you have 1 trillion, you would make 1 trillion in a yr. See the difference?
So you are against the idea of owing money? then I suggest you hand me all your cash, as it is an IOU.

BTW, how much would you bet on www.betsofbitco.in?

I'm not sure how much I would bet, but I would definitely submit the bet for 0.1 BTC plus like 1 BTC and get a small % of the cut at the end.  Small risk, small reward.

But you cannot guarantee you will make $5 or 1 trillion.  Who can guarantee that?  If you could, you wouldn't need a loan.  I've made $10,000 in 1 day before, I've also lost >$10,000 in 1 day before.  If you invest in something, that's sort of a gamble.  Your account could hit zero at anytime.  The only difference is if you are at zero or minus $3000.
